The delicately simple Chandele Star would look great anywhere.  Layer it over metallic artpapers, felt, wood, glittered or glossy cardstock - or a watercolored background.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with an easy ink-blending technique that's great for creating quick colored backgrounds for your holiday diecuts.

Cut a 4-½" x 3" strip of watercolor paper.  Ink a 4" soft rubber brayer with Fresh Greens Kaleidacolor - lift and roll the brayer repeatedly (about 20 times) so it's fully-inked.  Spritz it lightly with water.  Roll the spritzed inks onto the smoother side of the watercolor paper.  Let the colors blend for about a minute, then dry the inks with a heat-tool.

Spray it with Imagine's Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz.  Airdry it for a few minutes, then heat-set.  Cut it with the 2-¼" x 3-½" Stitched Rectangle Trimmings die.  We're using just the inner rectangle here.

Cut Chandele Star and the biggest Shining Star from smooth white cardstock.

Stamp the greeting - from the Merry and Bright Mistletoe Clear Stamps Set - on a white A-2 card with the turquoise ink from the Fresh Greens inkpad.

Assemble the card.  Add ¼" punched circles of gold glittered paper.

Memory Box Washi Tape on Colored Cardstock
by Vicki Finger

Pam Sparks Peace Airy Script Washi 10.24.2019

Hi everyone, Vicki here today!  Did you see this gorgeous card from Pam Sparks' IG or Blog on Friday, October 25th?  Since I had just finished a post using this Watercolor Woodland Washi Tape from Memory Box, I was wondering what it would look like on something other than white cardstock.  As soon as I saw Pam's card in my IG feed, I knew I had to try it out for myself.

Here's a rundown of the colors I put this washi tape on:

IMG_2089

I tried the Winter Woodland Washi Tape on a variety of colored cardstock for you after seeing Pam's card.  Then I put several cards together for my stash.

If you are new to my blog, I make a ton of cards each year and I put little goody bags together for my Sisters-In-Law each year at our Family Christmas celebration.  So between what I use and what I give to them, I need a lot of cards!

I tried to keep things pretty simple for the most part and did a lot with my usual thing, which is Gold Cardstock with whatever.  These cards are no exception.

This card uses Gina K Designs Gold Metallic Cardstock because it was the only shade of cardstock I had on hand for the depth of color I wanted.  I used several varieties of brown cardstock I had a half sheet in my scrap bin, so it worked out alright and I was able to get two card fronts from each 4.25 x 11-inch piece of cardstock.  I also used the Corner Holly Swirl on nearly all of these cards.  I still have a few panels for other projects.  It's pretty handy to make several card panels in the same style for later use.  I keep these extras in a Stamp Pocket on my desk for when I need a card in a hurry!  This color would be awesome for the guys in your life.

IMG_9764

This card uses Hawaiian Shores Cardstock and I truly love the non-traditional color scheme and this ended up being one of my favorites.  As you can see, I stamped and heat embossed the additional little sentiment in Pinefeather Cardstock.  The deep green of this cardstock was the perfect finishing touch for these cards.

IMG_9748

This particular card also uses a green shimmer cardstock call Fairway from PaperPapers.com for the Corner Holly Swirl.  All of the red glitter berries were made with Christmas Red Stickles.  I have some Christmas Red Nuvo Glitter Drops, but they need to be warm to use.  It's been cold this week in Texas, so rather than fool around with the Nuvo Drops, I went right to the Stickles.

IMG_9778

This card panel was done on SU Taupe Cardstock and I also really like the color of this washi tape on it.  Pam's card was done on Hobby Lobby's Kraft Cardstock which she said was pretty much the color of a brown paper bag.

IMG_9789

This card panel was done on Vintage Jadeite cardstock and I also really love the color of this!  Heck, let's face it - I like all the colors!  But the Hawaiian Shores and the Vintage Jadeite happen to be my two favorites!

IMG_9825

This is Watercolor Woodland on grey cardstock.  I used the "on Earth" from the Tidings Wreath Stamp Set and the "& Bright" from the Merry & Bright Mistletoe Stamp Set. I cut the "Merry" apart from the rest of the sentiment so I could use it with the larger Merry word die.

IMG_9849

This card is done on dark blue cardstock with Silver Accents.  I really love how this turned out. For some reason, dark blue with Silver just seems more "right" in my mind and my personal color sense than Gold in most cases. The details in all Memory Box Dies are just beautiful!

Memory Box's most recent release had several of these large word dies in "Merry", "Peace", "Wish", and "Joy".  I love them all, but my focus this time of year is Christmas!

I guess the point of this post is to literally think "outside the box", beyond just white cardstock under washi tape.  If I hadn't seen Pam's card, I wouldn't have explored the colored cardstock option nearly as soon as I did.

I hope I've inspired you to try some of your colored cardstock scraps with your Washi Tape to achieve a new look!

Greet the Season with a Dashing Holiday Rosette by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxJoyAiryScript, MemoryBoxWrapped StitchRectangles, MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxDashingHoliday6x6Pack, MemoryBoxDashingStripesAndDots6x6Pack, RosetteCards, JeanOkimoto, HandmadeHolidayCards, DiecutHolidayCards, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

A candycane rosette - folded from a Dashing Holiday 6x6 print - creates a unique Christmas greeting.  Add coordinating prints, bright red glitter accents and a Joy Airy Script diecut for a very special card.  Happy weekend - Jean Okimoto here with a contemporary design today.

MemoryBoxJoyAiryScript, MemoryBoxWrapped StitchRectangles, MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxDashingHoliday6x6Pack, MemoryBoxDashingStripesAndDots6x6Pack, RosetteCards, JeanOkimoto, HandmadeHolidayCards, DiecutHolidayCards, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Cut a 3" x 6" horizontal strip of the Dashing Holiday candycane print.  Cutting it horizontally makes it easy to fold along the grainline.

Here's a tip - scrunch a piece of waxed paper and rub it briskly over both sides of the paper to reduce friction and make it easier to score. MemoryBoxJoyAiryScript, MemoryBoxWrapped StitchRectangles, MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxDashingHoliday6x6Pack, MemoryBoxDashingStripesAndDots6x6Pack, RosetteCards, JeanOkimoto, HandmadeHolidayCards, DiecutHolidayCards, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Score it in ½" increments on one side of the paper.  Turn the paper over and score it in ½" increments beginning at ¼" - at ¼", ¾", 1-¼", 1-¾" - up to 5-¾". Cut the paper into three 1" x 6" strips.  Pleat the paper along the scored lines.  Trim ¼" from one short end of each strip to adhere (and conceal) the cut edge in the fold.  Use strips of ScoreTape to join the short ends to form a pleated ring.

Cut 1-½" and  ¾" cardboard circles  with the Circle Basics dies.  Spread one side of each circle with a strong craft glue (like Tacky Glue) - leave a ¼" unglued border around the edge so any excess glue won't squish out.

Lay the pleated ring on a flat surface and press it down so it lies flat - with the reverse side of the paper on the top. The inner cut edges should meet in a small circle in the center.   Press the 1-½" glue circle onto the center and hold it until the glue begins to set up.

Turn it over, adjust the pleats, then press the ¾" glue circle onto the center.  Press it until the glue sets up. Cut a ¾" circle of red glittered cardstock and cover the ¾" cardboard circle.

Cut a 3" circle of red cardstock.  Pressure-emboss it (offset to the left) with the 2-¾", 2-½ and 2-¼" Circle Basics dies.  Cut a 3-½" circle of the gray and white text pattern. Cut the dark gray Dashing Strips and Dots paper with the 4-¾" x 3-½" Wrapped Stitch Rectangles die.  Cut a 1" x 4 strip of the gray and white dottted paper.

Cut Joy Airy Script from chartreuse cardstock.  Leave the dot over the "j" in the die until you need it.

Attach everything to a white A-6 card.  Add three ¼" circles of red glittered cardstock. MemoryBoxJoyAiryScript, MemoryBoxWrapped StitchRectangles, MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxDashingHoliday6x6Pack, MemoryBoxDashingStripesAndDots6x6Pack, RosetteCards, JeanOkimoto, HandmadeHolidayCards, DiecutHolidayCards, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Unique cards like this require extra time, postage and post office handling - but I think they'll be enjoyed and appreciated by the special people in your life.

Thanks for visiting...have a great weekend!

The Snow Bunny Deep Edge Die Set is great for other winter friends too...like this furry felt polar bear cub.  Add a Starry Burst background and "cheers" from the Merry and Bright Mistletoe Clear Stamps Set and you've just created another Christmas card!  Hi and Happy Halloween to everyone celebrating - Jean Okimoto here with more reasons to add the Snow Bunny set to your Memory Box collection.

MemoryBoxDashingHoliday6x6Pack, MemoryBoxDashingStripesAndDots6x6Pack, MemoryBoxSnowBunny,MemoryBoxStarryBurst,MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxSquareBasics, MemoryBoxMerryAndBrightMistletoeClearStamps, JeanOkimoto, FeltDiecuts, PolarBearCard, DiecutCards, DiecutHolidayCards, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Attach adhesive label paper (or a sticker sheet) to white wool-blend felt and diecut some Snow Bunny pieces for the bear.  The paper layer stabilizes the felt and keeps liquid adhesives from soaking through.  Cut the eyes and nose from black cardstock.  Cut the ears with the 1" Circle Basics die.

Cut all of the the accent pieces - except the small ear circles - from the Dashing Holiday 6x6 prints.  Cut the small ear circles from the Dashing Stripes and Dots print.

Assemble the polar bear - use foam dots near the ends of the scarf.

Cut turquoise cardstock with the 4-¼" Square Basics die.  Cut it with Starry Burst - save the 2 bigger stars.  Attach little pieces of silver glitter paper behind the star cutouts.

Stamp the greeting from the Merry and Bright Mistletoe Clear Stamps on white cardstock with Peacock Feathers Distress Oxide.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.

Attach everything to a top-folded 5-½"square white card. Add the 2 saved stars.   Square cards require extra postage - but I hope you'll agree that this one's worth every penny of it!

The new Dashing Holiday and Dashing Stripes and Dots 6x6 prints are the perfect mix of holiday designs, plaids, stripes and dots.  They've even been designed so the very holiday-ish designs have non-holiday prints on the reverse side so you can use them for other occasions.  The versatile reds and charcoals will be perfect for Valentine's Day.  The Deep Edge dies collection is designed for mixing and layering prints - view them here, then imagine all of the ways you can use them

Build a Snow Bunny with Dashing Stripes and Dots and Dashing Holiday by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxDeepEdgeDies, MemoryBoxSnowBunny, MemoryBoxDashing Holiday6x6Prints, MemoryBoxDashingStripesAndDots6x6Prints, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, MemoryBoxMistletoeSwagClearStamps, JeanOkimoto, ImagineCrafts, FeltDiecuts, HolidayDiecuts, BunnyCards, HolidayDiecutCards

The new Dashing Holiday and Dashing Stripes and Dots 6x6 prints make it easy to build a lovable Snow Bunny.  Add a greeting from the new Mistletoe Swag Clear Stamps - and you're ready for Christmas!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here - combining a favorite Deep Edge Die Set with our great holiday prints.

MemoryBoxDeepEdgeDies, MemoryBoxSnowBunny, MemoryBoxDashing Holiday6x6Prints, MemoryBoxDashingStripesAndDots6x6Prints, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, MemoryBoxMistletoeSwagClearStamps, JeanOkimoto, ImagineCrafts, FeltDiecuts, HolidayDiecuts, BunnyCards, HolidayDiecutCards

Attach adhesive label paper - or a sticker sheet - to wool-blend white felt.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps liquid adhesives from soaking through.  Cut the Snow Bunny pieces from the felt.  Cut eyes from black cardstock.  Cut the decorative pieces from the Dashing Holiday and Dashing Stripes and Dots 6x6 packs.  Although it's hard to see in the photo,  the scarf is cut from the red striped pattern.

The Rectangle Basics set is temporarily out of stock at Memory Box - it may be available from your favorite Retailer.  Cut the background rectangles from the holly print (4-½" x 3-¼"), red cardstock (1-¾" x 3") and the green dots (2-½" x 1-¼").

Stamp the greeting - from the new Mistletoe Swag Clear Stamps Set - on red cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine.  Emboss it with detail clear powder. Cut it with the smallest Rectangle Basics die.

Here's a tip I've shared in classes...start the heat-embossing on the reverse side of the cardstock or paper, then finish it off from the right side.  Pre-heating it from the back starts the process - and finishing it on the front creates a great glossy image and minimizes scorching.

Score, fold and cut an A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card of white cardstock.  Assemble the card - use foam dots for the greeting.

This design works for any occasion - change the papers and colors and eliminate the scarf for a baby or birthday card,  It's a great for thank-yous and birthdays too - or just to say hello.  I like combining  the Memory Box products from different releases, using products in unexpected ways...and sharing these ideas with you!

Thanks for supporting Memory Box - and for your thoughtful comments.  I appreciate it!

Thanks for stopping by...see you on Thursday!

Holiday Cards Featuring Pine Needle Oval Frame, Candle Centerpiece, Shining Dove & Harvest Double Arches
by Vicki Finger

IMG_9527

Hello Everyone!  Vicki here today with a couple of cards for you using Dies and Washi Tape from the newest Memory Box Holiday 2019 release.

This card was very simple to create.  I cut the Pine Needle Oval and Candle Centerpiece from Rose Gold Metallic Cardstock.  Then laying just that part of the die that I needed the inlay pieces from I cut the Holly from some Moss Shimmer Metallic scraps.  I did the same for the berries only from Red Satin Cardstock.  The Candle was cut from a scrap of previously painted watercolor cardstock.

I used some shimmer mist on the Red Satin panel and die cut it with the second largest Rectangle Basics Die.  I also misted it with some shimmer spritz and let it dry while I assembled the various pieces of the candle.  You can see the little flecks of shimmer mist.  Trust me when I tell you it is super sparkly in person!

I used some Stardust Stickles for the center of the flame on the candle.  there is also a lot of shimmer on the paper.  It was a little bit of a waste to use Shimmer Metallic Cardstock for the background panel since I spritzed it, but it was a leftover piece, so no big deal to me.

IMG_9495

This took a pretty minimal amount of time for a super beautiful look.  Once I had the candle outline attached to the card front, I used my Crystal Katana tool to inlay the other pieces.  I often wait until I decide who I am sending a card to before adding a sentiment, so this goes right into my stash until I start getting ready to mail my Christmas and Holiday cards - in about a month!!  Holy Cow, this year has flown by.

Now onto my second project for today!   Memory Box just released its very first Washi Tape and I love the Watercolor Woodland Washi.  It is 4.5-inches wide by 11 yards long and in this case, I just adhered it to some white cardstock and then die cut a panel for the background of this card.  I have several ideas I hope to try soon using this product.

IMG_9653

I used the Rectangle Basics in 2nd largest size to die-cut my background panel.  I die cut two Shining Dove Frames from Cougar Super Smooth Digital White Cardstock.  One to keep pristine white and one to use the parts for my inlay technique.

I also die cut two of each of the Harvest Double Arch dies from scraps of green cardstock.  In fact, one set is die-cut from a piece of alcohol inked background that I ran through my Minc Machine.  I had the heat setting on high and so it left too much gold foil on it for a background panel, but die cutting the branches from it was a great way to use it.  The other branches are from a green cardstock scrap.  I love using up scraps from my bin for things like this.  Of course, I've barely made a dent in them and I'm sure some of you can relate!  *Ü*

I have a few panels of white 5 x 7 cardstock that I have laminated to use when I need a slick surface to work on.  So laying the Harvest Double Arch Branches on there, I added Xmas Red Stickles to all of the berries as you see in the image above.  I ended up saving this set for another project I have in mind, but I think you will get the idea.  I find that I am having much better luck with the Stickles than I am with my Nuvo Drops, so that's what I used for these.  It makes for quick and easy clean up doing them on the laminated cardstock, and I'm using the same piece over and over rather than using paper towels that are filling up landfills.

For the green background panel, I used some homemade shimmer mist by mixing clear shimmer spritz with a few drops of reinker in a small mister bottle.  The ones I have are from Stampin' Up and I've had them for several years.  I keep a few flat boxes under my desk for this type of thing and also for spray adhesive.

Starting with my background panel that used the Washi Tape, I added the frame for my next layer.  Then using the circle piece that you normally throw away, I laid it (without adhesive) to use as a guide for getting the Shining Dove part of the die lined up correctly.

For the dove, I used a Spectrum Noir Shimmer Pen all over.  When that was dry, I added a black gel pen dot for the eye and a little white spec from a white gel pen for the little highlight in the eye.  I used the Brush Merry Christmas for my greeting.  One of my girlfriends loves this Shining Dove Die and Green is her favorite color, so I'm planning to send this to her.  By mixing and matching using card scraps with some new cardstock, I ended up with a card that I think turned out super pretty.  I love how the Harvest Double Arches bring in the same style as the Watercolor Woodland Washi Tape.  Those same dies also match with the Silverdale Branch Die as well.

I love creating individual cards for my close friends and family.  I make a few that are done 8 or 10 at a time in a variety of styles so that I can share cards with my Sisters-In-Law each year.  I love making and they look forward to getting their goody bags each year.

Last Thursday, Pam Sparks created a card using the Watercolor Woodland Washi Tape on a piece of colored cardstock.  While I was working on the card I created for today's post, I wondered what this would look like on other colors besides white.  Pam's IG Post was so inspiring that I wanted to show you what that would look like on multiple colors of cardstock.  I'll be making cards with them today for a later post, but just to give you a few ideas, I'm inserting an image of that here for you!

IMG_2089

My next post will be the cards I created with these panels using a variety of Memory Box Sentiments from the new release.

Chandele Star and Chandele Snowflake
by Vicki Finger

IMG_8527

I have a new project for you today featuring some fantastic items from Memory Box's latest Holiday 2019 Release.  I fell in love with this Chandele Star Die and knew I wanted to make it shiny & sparkly!  Those are my two favorite colors after all!

I also used the coordinating Chandele Snowflake Die to both die-cut and to dry emboss my background panel. Just FYI, this word is pronounced "shan-dell" just in case you are like me and want to make sure you are pronouncing things correctly.

I have a huge bin of scraps that I try to use as often as possible.  I noticed I had one in a coordinating color that had been die cut and had also been heat embossed - ON THE WRONG SIDE!  This is exactly why I keep those scraps.  So I took the Chandele Snowflake Die and using an embossing sandwich, dry embossed the image into this scrap card panel of Peacock Metallic Cardstock.

IMG_9360

Then I die-cut the Chandele Snowflake from White Glitter Cardstock.   This die does cut each of the tiny dots and other pieces that are shown in the image, but I am just not that patient so I wanted only the white glitter snowflake to put behind the Chandele Star Die.

I chose a light pool colored glitter cardstock and die-cut the Chandele Star Die from that.  Then I used the Memory Box Shining Star Set to die cut a simple Star shape in the largest size to go behind the Chandele star and the next size down to cut one from white to go behind the die-cut Chandele Star. You'll probably have to open the image in a new tab to see the color differences, but I promise you it's there.  I definitely needed that White to make the glitter cardstock die cuts really pop.

IMG_9363

I wanted to add a few simple embellishments, so I added a jewel in the center of the star and also at the pointed tips of the star.  I also chose to cut the "Peace" word die from the same white glitter cardstock.  I tried a few different colors and the white definitely was the right choice.  Who doesn't wish for a little peace around the holidays?

Originally, I had planned to line the star up in true North/South orientation, but when I was playing around with orientation before I adhered it, I liked it better in this "tipped" to the left version, which also does a better job of highlighting the Chandele Snowflake.  I used foam tape on the back-side of the snowflake to give it a little bit of dimension.

Between the Shimmer Cardstock, the Glitter Cardstock and the little gems, this card is absolutely breathtaking in person. Thanks for stopping by today!  I love it when you take the time to leave me a comment!

Cut green cardstock with the frame from the Winter Tree Oval Frame set.  Pressure-emboss the inner oval offcut with the Antique Greenery Label using the plates and embossing mat required for your machine.

Here's an easy way to create the glittered greeting label. Attach a strip of Couture Creations doublestick tape to a scrap of the green cardstock and cut the narrow label section again. Cut the letters for "CELEBRATE" from red cardstock with the Mini Vintage Varsity Alphabet.  Press the letters onto the sticky label, then brush iridescent glitter around the letters, covering the rest of the adhesive.

Attach Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape to green cardstock for a frosty, translucent coordinating background.  Cut it with the 4-¼" Square Basics die.  Diecutting seals the edges with a crisp, clean finish.

Cut a 1" x 4-½" accent strip of red cardstock.

Cut ¾" x 5" accent strips of the brown dots and stripes from the new Dashing Dots and Stripes 6x6 Set.

Attach everything to a side-folded 5-½" square white card - offset the oval frame so the red peeks through on the left side.

Add red gem stickers.

Cut accent strips of the red (¾" x 3-½") and green (1" x 4") stripes.  Cut a ¾" x 5-½" green dotted accent strip from the reverse of the green stripes.

Attach a strip of lined doublestick tape behind red cardstock and diecut "JOY" using the Mini Vintage Peace Varsity set.  Leave the letters in the die - just remove the tape liners and the center of the "0."  Cut a circle using the 1" Circle Basics die.  Press the letters (still in the die) firmly onto the circle and use a pokey tool to transfer them to the circle.

Attach everything to a green A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card.  Add ¼" punched red glitter dots.

Welcome to Day Two of the Holiday Blog Blitz.  I am beyond excited about the 2019 Holiday release from Memory Box.  There's PAPER!  And WASHI TAPE!  Lots of new DIES!  And STAMPS!  See the entire 2019 Holiday release here.  Throughout the week members of the Design Team will share some ideas using the newest products.  And you will have a chance to win prizes, too.

I chose to combine the SNOWY CABIN CIRCLE 94332, the ANTIQUE HOLLY LABEL 94334, and the word "PEACE" from the MINI VINTAGE VARSITY PEACE 94338 for this holiday card.  I also incorporated a gray snowy paper from DASHING HOLIDAY PP1001 collection and both dark green distressed dots paper and one with light and dark brown stripes from DASHING STRIPES AND DOTS PP1002.

I started by cutting the gray snowy paper 4 X 5.25 and then adhered it to the front of a Juniper notecard.

I die cut the Snowy Cabin Circle two times--once from heavy white cardstock and once from the brown striped paper.  I just popped out the three white pieces and inserted the brown stripey ones to create my log cabin.

Next I cut the Antique Holly Label from the dark green distressed dots paper.  I LOVE the label dies from Memory Box!

Before assembling the card I decided to add yellow windows to the cabin but cutting that area of the die with yellow cardstock so I could pop out the white window panes and insert yellow ones.

I used some Scor-Tape behind the snow and a glue pen on  parts of the cabin to adhere it in the upper right of the card front.  I used a glue pen then to add the brown striped cabin logs, door, and the yellow window panes.  I placed the Antique Holly Label so that it overlapped the cabin scene, gluing down the outline first and then adding the label strip and the holly leaves.

For the final step I cut "PEACE" from the scrap of gray snowy paper and used the glue pen to place the tiny letters in the label space.
