Merry Christmas Card
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_0358

Hi everyone, today I have a holiday card for this month's Memory Box challenge.

To create this card I applied Twas the Night washi tape to a piece of white cardstock.  I cut the paper at an angel and adhered it to another piece of white cardstock for my card front.

Next I die cut the word merry from red cardstock and glued it to the card front. I die cut the snowflakes from kraft cardstock and glued those to the card.

IMG_0357

To finish the card, I stamped the word Christmas and added pearls to the center of the snowflakes. That's it!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Holly Circle Collage and Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape by Jean Okimoto

The modern Holly Circle Collage - layered over Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape - creates a quick holiday card today.  It's a combination of old and new -  text from the 1800 Christmas story with the cool, minimal holly collage.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here  - this is what we're using today -

MemoryBoxHollyCircleCollage,MemoryBoxTwasTheNightWideWashiTape, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics,MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxBoldChristmasGreetingsClearStamps, MemoryBoxBoldChristmasGreetingsDies, JeanOkimoto, VersaFineClair, ImpressCardsAndCrafts, ChristmasDiecuts, HollyDiecuts, HandmadeChristmasCards, DiecutChristmasCards, WideWashiTape

Cut red cardstock with the 4" x 5-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  The Rectangle Basics and Circle Basics sets are temporarily out of stock at Memory Box but may be available at your favorite retail store.

Cut the rectangle with the Holly Circle Collage.  Cut the collage again from green cardstock and save the leaves.

MemoryBoxTwasTheNightWideWashiTape

Here's a tip I shared earlier - it's an easy way to select background colors for wide washi tape. Attach a big swatch of tape to a clear background - acetate, a tranparency, or a Memory Box poly bag.  Place your swatch over different backgrounds to see how the tape will look.  It's quick, easy and saves time and tape.

Attach Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape to Kraft cardstock.  Cut it with the 3" circle die.  Attach it behind the collage.  Attach the leaves.  ScorTape and Couture Creations doublestick tapes are great for attaching layers to the wide washis.

Stamp the greeting - from the Bold Christmas Greetings clear stamps set  - on green cardstock with Pinecone VersaFine Claire.  Cut it with the coordinating die.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded A-2 card.  Add red gem stickers and ½" green circles.

Special thanks to everyone from Saturday's classes at Impress. It was great meeting our new students and I appreciate that so many 'regulars' took both classes!  Thanks for the holiday-wrapped Ghiradellis Jan, for the chocolate chip cookies Jacky, for the popcorn and cookies Jenny, and for the big M&M's Debbie!  Did we have enough to eat?  Thanks too Ann, Erin and Lynne - for helping everyone fill their baskets again.

No classes this weekend - I'll be prepping for the December 14 WHITTLE, SCRIBBLE & STACK class. We'll be using the Poppystamps' Whittles, Memory Box Scribbles and the stacking dies from Birch Press Design.  Hoping to use some of the new designs from our Valentine 2020 Collection!

Thanks for visiting - keep warm, be safe.  See you again on Saturday.

Greet the Season with Watercolor Woodland Wide Washi Tape and Dashing 6x6 Prints by Jean Okimoto

P1120434

Christmas will be here in 7 weeks - let's make some quick cards with the Watercolor Woodland Wide Washi Tape.  The beautiful pattern repeats about every 14 inches and each section yields 3 or 4 sections that are perfect for this design.  You can make a  lot of cards with each 4-½" x 11 yard roll!

Hi, Jean Okimoto here, combining some classic holiday elements with a simple, contemporary greeting. Here's a preview of what we'll be using:

P1120439

Attach Watercolor Woodland tape to white cardstock and cut circles with the 3-¼" Stitched Circle Layers die.

Cut a ¾" x 3-¾" strip of the dark green Dashing Stripes and Dots print.  Cut a ¾" x 3-¼" strip of the red plaid Dashing Holiday print.

Cut a matching label from the Dashing Holiday 6x6 set - then trim the corners with a corner rounder.

Cut "NOEL" from silver glitter paper with the Mini Vintage Varsity Alphabet set.

Cut, score and side-fold a white A-2 card. Attach red duct tape to a scrap of lightweight cardstock and punch ¼" accent dots.  Assemble the card - use foam dots for the greeting label.

Another tip before you leave...here's an easy way to preview background colors for these beautiful translucent wide washis.  It's not on today's card, but I'm just using the Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape here as an example.

P1120450

Create a large swatch by attaching  a generous section of tape to a clear material... use scraps of acetate,  or recycle empty Memory Box poly bags. You have a few, right? Slide strips of cardstock behind it to preview the colors - without wasting any of that beautiful tape or having it accidentally stick to your cardstock.   Not exactly rocket-science, but it saves a lot of time and cardstock.

I have swatches of my Poppystamps and Birch Press Designs wide washis too.  The polybags are pre-punched for hanging displays - so just use a binder ring or shower curtain ring to keep all of the swatches together and organized.

P1120444
Thanks for visiting...keep warm and enjoy the fall colors.  If you're in the Seattle area and have a long weekend,  join us for the MERRY + QUICK cards class at Impress on Veterans Day.  We're making quick-and-easy cards that don't look quick and easy!

See you next week...

Affordable Gifts with Washi Tape
by Laura Fulcher

IMG_2214

Greetings friends.  I recently posted a votive holder I decorated with some washi tape for the holidays.  Today I revisited my local dollar store and picked up a plastic photo album that I thought would be perfect for a quick and easy (and inexpensive) holiday gift.

I first started with my 5" x 6 1/2" album that I got for $1 and chose the Twas the Night washi tape for the cover:

IMG_2200

I wanted to go with the washi tape because I knew it would be really easy to adhere to the plastic.  I did remove the red piece of paper that came with the album because I thought the tape showed up much better with white paper behind the cover than the red.

Next, I die cut some holly using the new Dashing Stripes and Dots paper:

IMG_2219

I also decided to add a strip of the Watercolor Woodland washi tape to cover the spine of the book.  It wasn't necessary since the photo album looked fine with just the text on the cover, but I thought it added a bit more interest to the finished piece.

All that was left was to add my sentiment:

IMG_2220

The Mini Vintage Varsity Alphabet die cuts four of each letter at a time, so I only had to run the die through my machine once to get all of the letters I wanted.  I decided to cut out my message because I wanted to use paper from the 6" x 6" pack that I knew would coordinate with the other items on the album.

That's it!  It was a quick project, and I am very happy to have a stocking stuffer ready to go this year.  I thought I would add some pictures from years past and leave some room for future pictures.  Although I plan to give the album as a gift, I thought it would also be a nice way to store some of my favorite cards.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Holiday Cards Featuring Pine Needle Oval Frame, Candle Centerpiece, Shining Dove & Harvest Double Arches
by Vicki Finger

IMG_9527

Hello Everyone!  Vicki here today with a couple of cards for you using Dies and Washi Tape from the newest Memory Box Holiday 2019 release.

This card was very simple to create.  I cut the Pine Needle Oval and Candle Centerpiece from Rose Gold Metallic Cardstock.  Then laying just that part of the die that I needed the inlay pieces from I cut the Holly from some Moss Shimmer Metallic scraps.  I did the same for the berries only from Red Satin Cardstock.  The Candle was cut from a scrap of previously painted watercolor cardstock.

I used some shimmer mist on the Red Satin panel and die cut it with the second largest Rectangle Basics Die.  I also misted it with some shimmer spritz and let it dry while I assembled the various pieces of the candle.  You can see the little flecks of shimmer mist.  Trust me when I tell you it is super sparkly in person!

I used some Stardust Stickles for the center of the flame on the candle.  there is also a lot of shimmer on the paper.  It was a little bit of a waste to use Shimmer Metallic Cardstock for the background panel since I spritzed it, but it was a leftover piece, so no big deal to me.

IMG_9495

This took a pretty minimal amount of time for a super beautiful look.  Once I had the candle outline attached to the card front, I used my Crystal Katana tool to inlay the other pieces.  I often wait until I decide who I am sending a card to before adding a sentiment, so this goes right into my stash until I start getting ready to mail my Christmas and Holiday cards - in about a month!!  Holy Cow, this year has flown by.

Now onto my second project for today!   Memory Box just released its very first Washi Tape and I love the Watercolor Woodland Washi.  It is 4.5-inches wide by 11 yards long and in this case, I just adhered it to some white cardstock and then die cut a panel for the background of this card.  I have several ideas I hope to try soon using this product.

IMG_9653

I used the Rectangle Basics in 2nd largest size to die-cut my background panel.  I die cut two Shining Dove Frames from Cougar Super Smooth Digital White Cardstock.  One to keep pristine white and one to use the parts for my inlay technique.

I also die cut two of each of the Harvest Double Arch dies from scraps of green cardstock.  In fact, one set is die-cut from a piece of alcohol inked background that I ran through my Minc Machine.  I had the heat setting on high and so it left too much gold foil on it for a background panel, but die cutting the branches from it was a great way to use it.  The other branches are from a green cardstock scrap.  I love using up scraps from my bin for things like this.  Of course, I've barely made a dent in them and I'm sure some of you can relate!  *Ü*

I have a few panels of white 5 x 7 cardstock that I have laminated to use when I need a slick surface to work on.  So laying the Harvest Double Arch Branches on there, I added Xmas Red Stickles to all of the berries as you see in the image above.  I ended up saving this set for another project I have in mind, but I think you will get the idea.  I find that I am having much better luck with the Stickles than I am with my Nuvo Drops, so that's what I used for these.  It makes for quick and easy clean up doing them on the laminated cardstock, and I'm using the same piece over and over rather than using paper towels that are filling up landfills.

For the green background panel, I used some homemade shimmer mist by mixing clear shimmer spritz with a few drops of reinker in a small mister bottle.  The ones I have are from Stampin' Up and I've had them for several years.  I keep a few flat boxes under my desk for this type of thing and also for spray adhesive.

Starting with my background panel that used the Washi Tape, I added the frame for my next layer.  Then using the circle piece that you normally throw away, I laid it (without adhesive) to use as a guide for getting the Shining Dove part of the die lined up correctly.

For the dove, I used a Spectrum Noir Shimmer Pen all over.  When that was dry, I added a black gel pen dot for the eye and a little white spec from a white gel pen for the little highlight in the eye.  I used the Brush Merry Christmas for my greeting.  One of my girlfriends loves this Shining Dove Die and Green is her favorite color, so I'm planning to send this to her.  By mixing and matching using card scraps with some new cardstock, I ended up with a card that I think turned out super pretty.  I love how the Harvest Double Arches bring in the same style as the Watercolor Woodland Washi Tape.  Those same dies also match with the Silverdale Branch Die as well.

I love creating individual cards for my close friends and family.  I make a few that are done 8 or 10 at a time in a variety of styles so that I can share cards with my Sisters-In-Law each year.  I love making and they look forward to getting their goody bags each year.

Last Thursday, Pam Sparks created a card using the Watercolor Woodland Washi Tape on a piece of colored cardstock.  While I was working on the card I created for today's post, I wondered what this would look like on other colors besides white.  Pam's IG Post was so inspiring that I wanted to show you what that would look like on multiple colors of cardstock.  I'll be making cards with them today for a later post, but just to give you a few ideas, I'm inserting an image of that here for you!

My next post will be the cards I created with these panels using a variety of Memory Box Sentiments from the new release.

Celebrate the season with the new Antique Greenery Label and Mini Vintage Varsity Alphabet Set - layered over the Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape.  Hello - Jean Okimoto here - thanks for joining last week's Holiday Blog Blitz.  We appreciate your comments  -  and special congrats to my posts' winners Lin Brandyberry and Chandhini - enjoy your prizes!

Cut green cardstock with the frame from the Winter Tree Oval Frame set.  Pressure-emboss the inner oval offcut with the Antique Greenery Label using the plates and embossing mat required for your machine.

Here's an easy way to create the glittered greeting label. Attach a strip of Couture Creations doublestick tape to a scrap of the green cardstock and cut the narrow label section again. Cut the letters for "CELEBRATE" from red cardstock with the Mini Vintage Varsity Alphabet.  Press the letters onto the sticky label, then brush iridescent glitter around the letters, covering the rest of the adhesive.

Attach Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape to green cardstock for a frosty, translucent coordinating background.  Cut it with the 4-¼" Square Basics die.  Diecutting seals the edges with a crisp, clean finish.

Cut a 1" x 4-½" accent strip of red cardstock.

Cut ¾" x 5" accent strips of the brown dots and stripes from the new Dashing Dots and Stripes 6x6 Set.

Attach everything to a side-folded 5-½" square white card - offset the oval frame so the red peeks through on the left side.

Add red gem stickers.

Decorating with Washi Tape
by Laura Fulcher

IMG_2203

Greetings friends!  Did you know that Memory Box has new washi tape for the holidays?  Woohoo!  Both rolls are a wide width, so you can use the tape for cards, envelopes.... or even decorating!  One of the things I love about washi is how versatile it is.  I use it on cards all the time, but I have also been know to sink down the Pinterest rabbit hole and look at ideas for how to decorate with washi.  The wide with lets you do even more.

To decorate with the new Watercolor Woodland tape (pictured above) as well as the Twas the Night tape (in another post), I first visited my local Dollar Tree store to pick up items to use as a base for my washi tape.  I often need small holiday gifts to use as a stocking stuffer or as a little holiday "thinking of you." Starting with a dollar base item is perfect!

This was my first purchase.  A glass jar for a taper candle:

IMG_2197

The straight sides of the glass were perfect for the washi.  My advice when working with the washi is to attach it to the jar and then unroll the tape and smooth it as you work your way around the candle holder.  My jar was 3 1/2" tall and the tape is 4 1/2" wide, so once the tape was wrapped around the jar, I cut off the extra 1" at the top using an Xacto knife.  It was surprisingly easy to do.

Next, I added some red ribbon, berries and some cut out Winter Greenery using my stamps and coordinating dies:

IMG_2212

The washi tape give the appearance of frosted glass.  I really liked the look.  Because the washi tape adheres to glass, when you look on the inside of the candle, you can't see any of the adhesive.

The print of the washi also shows up well when the candle is lit:

IMG_2210

What about you guys?  Do you have any favorite ways to use your washi tape?  I would love to know!

Scribble Holly Trio Outline, Scribble Holly Trio Background, and Twas the Night Wide Washi Tape Holiday Card
by Anne Thompson

I LOVE the new Washi tapes at 4.5" wide!  I wanted to use Twas the Night Washi tape as the background for the new Scribble Holly Trio dies.  I had some off-white house-shaped notecards that I thought would be perfect covered with the tape.

IMG_1995

  • I used a Juniper notecard and adhered a piece of the green striped paper from the DASHING STRIPES AND DOTS PP1002 6X6 collection.  I cut it just a wee bit smaller than the top of the notecard so some of the juniper green showed around the edge.
  • I unwrapped the wide TWAS THE NIGHT WASHI TAPE WT501 and unrolled it and stuck it to a couple of pieces of house-shaped paper.  I trimmed the extra off with some sharp scissors and used a tape runner to secure one of the houses to the notecard.

IMG_1982

IMG_1982

  • Next I die cut the SCRIBBLE HOLLY TRIO OUTLINE 94344 from another Juniper notecard.
  • I inked up the edges with VersaClair Shady Lane dark green ink to add some texture.

IMG_1985

  • I cut the SCRIBBLE HOLLY TRIO BACKGROUND 94351 from a scrap of a lighter green paper.
  • I inked the edges of the three pieces with more of the VersaClair Shady Lane dark green ink.

IMG_1983

  • To add the holly to the front of the house I started with using a glue pen on the main stem and then placed the Holly Trio Background pieces in place under the holly leaf outlines using a tape runner.  I thought the light green was too bright, so I added the juniper pieces on top of them and used a glue pen on the center vein and the leaf outlines after the background pieces were in place.  This gave a bit more dimension to the leaves.

IMG_1986

  • To finish the card I added sticky-backed red gems for berries.

IMG_1989

This is a card that will be easy to produce in quantity--and I really do need to get a lot of cards made.  It's also one I'll use with my Seniors Group in November.

IMG_1994

I think you are going to love the new Washi tapes.  They really do make lovely backgrounds for this year's holiday dies!

Happy Crafting!

Cut dark orange cardstock with the 3-½" x 4-¾" Rectangle Basics die.  This great set of 16 dies is temporarily out of stock at Memory Box - but it may be available right now at your favorite retailer.

Diecut the rectangle with the Starry Burst - leave it in the die.  Remove the 5 little stars.  Pressure-emboss it to add extra dimension and shadows  - use the plates and embossing mat required for your machine.  Attach pieces of clear tape behind the little star cutouts and brush black glitter onto the exposed adhesive.

Cut Swirling Ghosts from watercolor paper - we're using just 3 of them here.  Attach scraps of black cardstock behind them for their eyes.

Attach lime green duct tape to lightweight cardstock and cut "BOO" with the new Vintage Varsity Alphabet dies.  It's a cool stitched set that's perfectly-sized for cards and tags. Cut the "I" and punch a ¼" circle to create an exclamation mark.

Cut (and punch) the pieces again from black cardstock.  Layer them - slightly offset - for dimension.

Cut accent strips of gray dots (¾" x 4") and gray stripes (1" x 5") from the new Dashing Stripes and Dots 6x6 set.

Cut a gray and white plaid strip (¾" x 4-½") from the new Dashing Holiday 6x6 set.

Attach everything to a side-folded 5-½" square black card.
