Rose Blossoms – Embossed, Layered and Glittered by Jean Okimoto

P1160053

Create long-stemmed roses with the new Rose Blossom Die Set and Gilia Stems from a earlier release - then add them to a simple all-occasion card.  Just another way to mix, match and alter your Memory Box diecuts and discover new designs.  Hello and happy weekend - Jean Okimoto here with a bright summer card for you.

We're using another Leafy Jumble Stencil background from a variation of a Jennifer McGuire technique.  Details are on my previous post.  One sheet of ink-blended Open Studio Watercolor Paper and spritzed water produces two ink-lifted backgrounds and one heat-embossed background.

P1160068

Sponge worn lipstick, carved pumpkin and squeezed lemonade Distress Oxides on smooth white cardstock for the blossoms.  Heat-set the inks.  Cut two each of the Rose Blossom and Background.  Pressure-emboss the backgrounds using the detailed die, rubber embossing mat and embossing plate(s) required for your machine.

Spread a large drop of Goldfinch Open Studio Glitter Glue in the center of the pressure-embossed background - cover an area about ¾" in diameter.  Attach the detailed diecut. Pressure-embossing the background adds an extra layer of dimension.

Cut the stems of the Gilia Stems set.  Remove the small lower leaf of the longer stem - it'll be re-attached higher later.

Trim the Leafy Jumble background with the 3-½" x 4-¾" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut accent strips from Sour Apple (1-⅜" x 4") and Juicy Pear (⅞" x 4-½") cardstock. Trim the stems to fit on the accent strip.  Attach everything to a side-folded A2 card of Sour Apple cardstock.

Social-distanced crafting won't replace the great friendships and experiences shared in classes but it keeps us connected right now.  Thank you for purchasing my card kits through Impress Cards and Crafts here in Washington - and Stamps and Memories in Hawaii.  Thanks also for selecting and supporting these great independent retailers - and Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press Designs - during these challenging times.

Let's make another card using one of the three Leafy Jumble Stencil backgrounds we created in my previous post.  It's the original Distress Oxide-inked sheet of Open Studio Watercolor Paper.  Hi there, Jean Okimoto here with the second of three cards we're making using a variation of a great Jennifer McGuire technique.

Use the Leafy Jumble Stencil and a water-spritzed sheet of Open Studio Watercolor Paper to lift the inks from a heavily-inked sheet of watercolor paper. Repeat the lifting  with a second sheet of watercolor paper for another background.

Stencil VersaMark onto the original inked paper and heat-emboss it with detail clear powder to create the background for today's card. Cut it with the 3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut white cardstock with the large Poppystamps Flora Blooms die.  Attach a scrap of the yellow glittered cardstock from the 6"x6" Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pack behind the flower.

Cut Birthday Cursive Script Circle from yellow cardstock - leave the teeny dot over the "i" in the die until you're ready to attach it to the background.

Stamp "greetings" - from the Cherry Blossom Wreath Clear Stamps and Die Set - on yellow cardstock with Shady Lane VersaFine Clair.  Dry the ink, then trim the cardstock with the smallest Rectangle Basics die.  Cut the excess off the short end with the side of a larger rectangle die for a nice trimmed edge.

Attach everything to a top-folded white A-2 card - position the Birthday Cursive Script Circle so the dot over the "i" can be securely attached to an area that's not embossed and glossy.  Add ¼" punched circles of the yellow Twinkling Jewel glittered cardstock.

Big Birthday Celebration by Jean Okimoto

P1150845

Celebrate a special birthday with Tall Birthday Candles and Poppystamps' Flora Blooms Solid Set.  Balance the bold diecuts with the delicate Celebrate Cursive Script and a pretty floral print from the Garden Folly 6x6 prints.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here sharing a design idea for the June Birthdays Challenge.  Everyone deserves a special birthday card and now - more than ever - your handcrafted card will brighten their day.

P1150863

The 5-piece Poppystamps Flora Bloom Solids Set nests together and cuts bold blossoms for spring and summer greetings.  It's a great set for stenciling, pressure-embossing and cutting inlaid designs too.  Tape the dies (excluding the largest die) together and cut Flamingo cardstock.  Leave the pieces in the die and tape the nesting diecuts in two or three spots to keep them intact.  Attach foam tape to four of the five outer petals.

Cut two Scribble Leafy Branch Backgrounds from green cardstock.  Cut a 1-½" x 3-½" strip of the striped floral print from the new 6x6 Garden Folly Paper Pack.  Cut Celebrate Cursive Script from Flamingo cardstock.

Cut three of the Tall Birthday Candles from one of the white glittered cardstock from the Delicate Pastel Glitter Pad.  They're actually 2-¾" tall and but trimmed to various heights here.  Color them with Zebra MildLiner, Copic or Sharpie Markers and set them aside to dry.

Attach everything to a 3-½" x 8-½" white slimline card - place the petal without foam tape where it'll be under the tip of the "C."  Slimline cards fit into #9 and #10 business envelopes.  The Garden Folly print strip extends beyond the top of the card to add a point of interest.

P1150851

The Tall Birthday Candles and Celebrate Cursive Script are classic designs for anyone and everyone.  Add design elements from Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press Design and create unique cards for everyone on your list.

Thanks for visiting - see you again on Thursday!

Emboss and Gloss the Magnificent Sunflower by Jean Okimoto

P1150166

Highlight the dimension of the Magnificent Sunflower 3D Embossing Folder for a glossy, glazed look in fresh greens and yellows.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with spring-into-summer design today.

P1150144

Sponge or brush squeezed lemonade, mowed lawn and twisted citron Distress Oxides onto the smoother side of Memory Box Open Studio Watercolor Paper.  Give it a light spritz of water and blend the inks with the inky sponges or brushes.  Heat-set the inks.  Cut it with the largest Stylish Rectangle Trio die.  Splatter a few dots of gold ink onto the inner portion and heat-set it.

Emboss it with the Magnificent Sunflower folder.  Place the rectangle on a hard, flat surface and apply a light layer of VersaMark with a 4" brayer.  Emboss it with detail clear powder

Stamp the greeting - from the Wild Rose Stem Clear Stamps and Die Set - on black cardstock with VersaMark.  Heat-emboss it with detail white powder.

Attach everything to a white A-6 card (4-½" x 6-¼") - use foam dots for the greeting.  Punch ¼" circles from the green Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pad cardstock.

P1150171

Hope you'll give this a try.  Using the hard rubber brayer lets you apply VersaMark to the highest embossed layer without smudging.  It's great for large backgrounds too.

Thanks for stopping by - take care and keep healthy!

Simon Says Stamp’s Exclusive Stamptember Fresh Cut Bouquet by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSimonSaysStampStamptember, MemoryBoxPetiteLeafFrame, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, Ink-LiftingTechnique, DistressOxides, JeanOkimoto, StampedFlowerCards

The Memory Box Exclusive Fresh Cut Bouquet Set for Simon Says Stamp is great for the ink-lifting technique.  Pair it with warm Distress Oxide colors and crisp white diecuts from the Petite Leaf Frame Set.   The 10th Anniversary Stamptember Limited Edition stamp set is only available while supplies last - order your set soon and enjoy it for late summer and fall projects.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here, using a popular technique that's been around for several years -  but creates unique results each time.  Sponge or brush the smoother side of watercolor paper with overlapping layers of  Worn Lipstick and Picked Raspberry Distress Oxides.  Set it aside to air-dry.  Have a Kleenex tissue and another stamp block ready for the next step.

MemoryBoxSimonSaysStampStamptember, MemoryBoxPetiteLeafFrame, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, Ink-LiftingTechnique, DistressOxides, JeanOkimoto, StampedFlowerCards

Spritz the clean Fresh Cut Bouquet stamp with water and press it firmly onto the inked watercolor paper for about a minute. Carefully remove the stamp and lay the tissue flat on the watercolor paper.  Press it with the stamp block to absorb the excess water.

Dry the watercolor paper then trim it with the 3-½" x 4-¾" Rectangle Basics die.

Stamp the greeting - also from the set - on a scrap of watercolored paper with Morning Mist VersaFine Clair.  Trim it with the smallest Rectangle Basics die.

Cut the leaves and pods from the Petite Leaf Frame set from white cardstock.

Attach everything to an A-6 card of textured white cardstock - use foam dots for the greeting.  Add yellow gem stickers.

MemoryBoxSimonSaysStampStamptember, MemoryBoxPetiteLeafFrame, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, Ink-LiftingTechnique, DistressOxides, JeanOkimoto, StampedFlowerCards

Hope you'll try this technique with different designs from our 2019 Holiday Collection.  It would be great with the evergreens, leaves and wreaths.

Thanks for visiting...see you tomorrow!

Press the inks from the Desert Heat Kaleidacolor inkpad onto a large acrylic stamp block.  Spritz it lightly with a fine mist of water.  Colorwash the embossed image with diluted pink ink so the image is visible for detailed painting.  Paint it with diluted inks from the inkpad.  Dry it, then diecut it with the bouquet die from the coordinating set.

Trim the diecut with the 4-¼" x 5-½"  Rectangle Basics die.

Diecut Hello Jotted Script from dark brown and coral creme cardstock.  Attach the diecuts to a side-folded A-2 textured natural notecard.  Add orange gem stickers.

Share Happy Thoughts with the Brilliant Sunflower by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxBrilliantSunflower, MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxRoseBouquetClearStamps, JeanOkimoto, ImagineCrafts, VersaMark, Kaleidacolor, ImpressCardsAndCrafts.FllowerDiecuts, WatercoloredCards, GlitteredCards

Sunflowers are happy flowers...and a glittered beautifully-detailed Brilliant Sunflower sparkles on a watercolored background. Add a color-matched greeting from the Rose Bouquet Clear Stamps Set - and brighten someone's day.

Hello and Happy Friday - Jean Okimoto here with some August Challenge inspiration. The new Challenge theme is "Some Like It Hot" - featuring warm reds, oranges and/or yellows on your entry.

MemoryBoxBrilliantSunflower, MemoryBoxCircleBasics, MemoryBoxRoseBouquetClearStamps, JeanOkimoto, ImagineCrafts, VersaMark, Kaleidacolor, ImpressCardsAndCrafts.FllowerDiecuts, WatercoloredCards, GlitteredCards

Spritz a 5" square of watercolor paper with a light mist of water.  Roll a 4" soft rubber brayer over a Melon Melody Kaleidacolor inkpad to ink it completely - lift and roll it about 15-20 times for good coverage.  Spritz the inked brayer with water, then roll the colors onto the moist watercolor paper.  Set it aside to air-dry for a few minutes.

Spritz it again to create some ink variations.  Dry it with a heat-tool.  Cut it with the 3-¼" Circle Basics die.

Cut Brilliant Sunflower and two leaves from green cardstock.  Attach Scor-Tape to yellow cardstock. Cut it - with the tape on the top - with the solid sunflower die.

Attach the adhesive-topped yellow sunflower behind the detailed green sunflower.  Brush iridescent glitter over the exposed adhesive.  I like to use Impress Sparkle Glitter - it makes everything look pretty.

Cut three ¾" circles from scraps of the watercolored paper.

Stamp the greeting - from the Rose Bouquet Clear Stamp Set - on smooth white cardstock with VersaMark.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.  Here's a tip I've shared in classes - start the embossing process by heating the backside of the cardstock for a few seconds, then finish it from the front for a nice glossy finish.  Set it aside to cool.

Sponge it with the 2nd green ink of the Melon Melody inkpad.  Gently buff the excess ink from the embossing with a soft tissue.  Trim it to resemble a label-maker greeting.

Attach everything to a side-folded white textured A-2 card - use foam dots for the greeting.  Attach yellow gem stickers.

Enjoy the sun...but save some time to make a few summer-y cards with the flowers and butterflies from Memory Box.  They play well together...and the details are amazing!

P1110464 2

A trio of Little Dragonflies and a Large Double Peony create a simple summer card today.  Soft peach tones, gold and gray highlight the pressure-embossed peony.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a quick card you can use for any occasion.

Pressure-emboss Large Double Peony using the embossing mat and plates required for your machine.  Attach the diecut to the embossed background, slightly offset for dimenson and shadows.

Cut Little Dragonflies from gold mirror cardstock.

Say Hello with Scribble Roses and Scribble Fronds by Jean Okimoto

P1110436

Say hello with embossed, layered Scribble Roses and Scribble Fronds...it's quick and easy and perfect for a simple summer greeting.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with another design featuring the the versatile Scribble Roses Outline and Scribble Roses Background dies.

P1110443

Cut Scribble Roses background from watercolor paper.  Pressure-emboss the diecuts with the detailed Scribble Roses Outline dies using the embossing mat and plates required for your machine.

Brush Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide over the embossed diecuts.  Stack and adhere the three Scribble Roses.

Cut Scribble Frond Background and Scribble Frond Outline from Flintstone cardstock.

Cut the 2" x 3-¼" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle from white cardstock.

Cut ¾" x 4-¾" amd ¾" x 3-¾" strips of Coral Creme and Patina cardstock.

Stamp "hello" - from the Big and Little Words Clear Stamps Set - on white cardstock with VersaMark.  Heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.  Sponge the cooled cardstock with Morning Mist VersaFine Claire.  I think this is easier - and smoother - than white-embossing it on dark cardstock.  Trim the greeting.

Attach everything to a top-folded Kraft A-2 card - use foam dots for the greeting.  Add ¼" circles of silver glitter cardstock.

P1110439

I love finding different ways to use my Memory Box dies - hope you do too!  We'll start making holiday cards at Impress this Satureday - and discover more ways to use the great holiday (and un-holiday) dies and stamps on unique cards.  Hope you'll join us if you're in the Seattle area.

Thanks for stopping by...see you again next week!
