Deck the Halls
by Melissa Rusk

Happy Saturday! It's hard to believe that it's time to start thinking about Christmas cards but it will be here before we know it. Today I have a fun stamping technique using the Distress Oxide inks and one of the fabulous new stamps from the Holiday Collection.

IMG_0463

I started by stamping my image using an ink that is water resistant on to Bristol paper. Just pick your favorite ink you like to use when watercoloring. Then once the image was dry, I covered my paper with Lucky Clover Distress Oxide ink.

Next, I took a paint brush dipped in water and I painted over the inside of the leaves and berries in the mistletoe. When it is still wet, take a paper towel to dab off the water and it will reveal the oxide magic!

To add some sparkle, I used my Clear Wink of Stella glitter pen to color in the berries. I stamped a sentiment and then once everything was dry I glued the card together.

Thinking of You
by Melissa Rusk

Happy Wednesday friends! Today I used one of the new stamp sets with some inks to create a blended and stamped card.

IMG_0452

I started with three colors of the Distress Oxide inks in browns to create my ombre background. Starting with the lightest color first, I inked over the whole paper with a blending brush. Then I took the medium color and went a little more than half way down the paper. I finished with some of the darkest brown along the top third of the paper.
IMG_0452

Then using the set of leaves from the Graceful Fern stamp set I stamped them three times using the darkest brown Oxide ink color. I added in my sentiment from the same stamp set to finish it off.

Ink blending is so fun and it works great with these stamps! Have a great day!

Spider Web Oval Frame
by Melissa Rusk

Welcome to another day of our Holiday Release Blog Blitz! Today I have a fun Halloween card to share with you all.

IMG_0431

I used the Spider Web Oval Frame die set for this card. For the background oval I used three purple colors of Distress Oxide ink and blending them together with a blending brush. Then I added some black Distress Oxide ink around the outside before I sprayed the oval with water to get the fun oxide ink reaction. I also added some clear shimmer spray to the background too.
IMG_0431

I used some clear Wink of Stella glitter brush pen over the spider and the web on the die cut. I glued the whole card together and then finished it off with some clear sequins and some clear stars.

Now for the fun part! If you want to win the Spider Web Oval Frame, leave a comment on this blog post by 11:59 pm EST Sunday, September 1. The winner will be randomly selected and announced right here on this blog the next day on Monday, September 2. Good luck!

Grateful Autumn Leaves
by Melissa Rusk

Hi friends! Today I have two cards using one of the stamp sets from the new Holiday Collection. I just got it and I love it so much! I had to grab the Grateful Autumn clear stamp set and get to coloring right away.

IMG_0411

I love using my Copic Markers to color so I wanted to focus on that for my cards today. I stamped the beautiful big set of leaves twice. For one card, I decided to color the leaves in reds, oranges and yellows. Then I colored my background in a bright blue color, marker B69 if you have Copics. I colored the entire background with two layers of color to help even out my brush strokes.
IMG_0411

I love the blue so much that for the second card I decided to just color the background and left the leaves in white. I mounted the colored pieces with a copper mirror card paper and put them on light blue cards.

Hope you have a great weekend, thanks for visiting the blog today!

A Simple Hello
by Melissa Rusk

Happy Friday! Today I have fun card using one of my favorite techniques, paper weaving.

IMG_0288

I started with 1/4 inch wide strips of paper, I cut 7 blue and 7 yellow. I placed the yellow strips close together and taped the top of them to the table with washi tape. Then I took each of the blue strips and wove them into the yellow one by one. Once the weaving was finished I took the tape off and used some liquid glue to secure it before gluing it down to the card.

On top of my paper weaving I placed the pretty Layered Poppy that I die cut in white paper. I die cut it twice and glued them together to give the flower some more dimension. I finished the card with the stamped hello from the Big and Little words stamp set and glued down some little dew drop gems.

I hope you have a great weekend!

Bright Birthday Fun!
by Melissa Rusk

Happy Monday! Today I have a bright and fun birthday card to get the week started.

IMG_0268

For this card I started with the Little Hibiscus Blossom die and cut it in white. Then I used my Zig Clean Color Brush pens to color the flower. I love the bright color that came from mixing pink and purple pens.
IMG_0268

On my card background I first stamped my sentiment from my favorite stamp set right now, Big and Little Words. I masked over the stamped area with some washi tape. Then I added four more strips of washi tape in two other sizes to make more stripes. I used a blending brush and some teal ink to make my striped background.

Once it was dry I glued everything together. Some clear dew drop gems finish it off.

Have a fabulous week everyone!

Pretty Posies
by Melissa Rusk

Happy Tuesday friends! Today I have a bright and cheery card to share using some washi tape in a fun way. Let's get started!

IMG_0247

I created my watercolor background with some thin washi tape and some watercolor paper. I placed the tape all over to create different size shapes until I liked how it was looking. Then I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush pen in a teal color and placed some color in one part of each shape. I used my water brush to fill in the rest of each section with color. Once it was dry I removed all of the washi tape and my background was ready to go.
IMG_0247

I then die cut the Scribble Posies Background die in watercolor paper and used some of the same brush markers and my water brush to color them in.
IMG_0247

Once the flowers were dry I added them to the card. For a final touch I used a black Glaze pen to make dots in the center of the flowers. The Glaze pen adds a little shine and dimension to the centers of the flowers and is a fun accent.

Thanks for stopping by the blog, have a wonderful day!

Lots of Stripes!
by Melissa Rusk

Happy Wednesday! Today I want to share how I made my card for this months challenge. It is all about stripes and I created a fun watercolor card for you today.

IMG_0225

I started with my striped background. Using watercolor paper and a larger paint brush I painted the black stripes all the way down, leaving some space in between. If the color didn't come out as dark as I wanted then I just painted over it again. Super fun and super easy!
IMG_0225

Then I started to paint the colors for my flower and leaves. I put down some water in the shape that I wanted the flower, it's a little bigger than the stamp. Then I took some pinks and reds and dropped them in the water until I liked the colors.
IMG_0225

Once this dried I did the same thing for the leaves in green. After the paint dried then I stamped my flower and leaves with versa mark ink and used a black embossing powder to make them stand out.
IMG_0225

To finish the card I stamped and embossed my sentiment and then added some black paint splatters with my wet brush as I tapped it over the paper. I added some bling with sequins and gems.

Thanks for stopping by the blog today!

With Love
by Melissa Rusk

Hi friends! Today I have a sweet little card that would be perfect for this summer wedding season.

IMG_0171

I used the beautiful Birds and Blossoms die and cut it in white paper. I then inked a light teal circle with my blending brush and glued the die cut over the top of it.
IMG_0171

I added some pearls and the stamped sentiment from the Big and Little Words stamp set. This card would be easy to customize to match the colors of the wedding you are attending just by changing the card color and the ink color.

A Trio of Poppies
by Melissa Rusk

Happy Sunday friends! I hope you are having a wonderful weekend. Today I have a card to share using the Layered Poppy die, let's get started!

IMG_0118

I cut out the Layered Poppy in white paper three times and glued them all together. To make my square background I made my own stencil with the Square Basics set and used my ink blending brush to fill them in with a teal ink.
IMG_0118

So fun and something I know I will try again! I kept to a teal and white color scheme on this card and glued my stenciled piece of paper to a teal card and then added some darker teal strips of paper to clean up the edges of the white paper.IMG_0118

I finished the card off with three little clear gems in the bottom corner. So fun and easy too.
