A Valentine for a Special Fella
by Anne Thompson

I found a few pieces of brown plaid paper from the Woodsy Plaid paper pad that I think worked quite well to make a more masculine valentine for today's post.  (I apologize for the quality of the photos--not sure what is going on with my camera.)

IMG_3487-ink

to make this card

  • begin with a white notecard and add a piece of brown WOODSY PLAID PP1018 paper cut 4 X 5.25  Thumbnail
  • using the HEART FRAME BACKGROUND 94606 and KRAFT WOODGRAIN PAPER SH44003, cut out the house to use as a birdhouse with the heart as the opening; cut a few extra hearts--the die cuts both outlines and solid hearts

IMG_3491-ink

  • add the house to the card front; stack three of the heart outlines together and glue into the birdhouse opening; stack the three small hearts together and add to the lower left on the card front using a foam dot
  • die cut the body of the SERENE BIRD 94620 from one of the light brown papers in the EARTH NEUTRAL COLLECTION SP1009 and its wing from one of the dark browns

IMG_3493-ink

  • secure the wing to the bird with a Glue Dot; add foam dimensional dots behind the bird and add it to the card; add a tiny black gem for its eye
  • die cut the GENTLE PINE SPRIG 94597 from a dark brown plaid paper and again from the dark brown cardstock; layer them together with the plaid on top, and tuck under the bird with another Glue Dot

IMG_3488-ink

  • for the inside of the card die cut the letters LOVE using dies from WOODGRAIN ALPHA 94579 from both the dark brown cardstock and the dark brown plaid; layer them together with the plaid on top

IMG_3489-ink

When mailing a card that has lots of dimension on the front and/or gems, add a piece of cardstock or thin bubble wrap on top when placing the card in the envelope.  It will help to protect both the card front and the envelope.  Cards like this usually take more postage and may need to be hand-cancelled.

Slim Pinpoint Heart Balloons by Jean Okimoto

P1012554

Send special hugs with glittered pinpoint heart balloons on a Kraft Woodgrain slimline card.  It can be a Valentine - or a friendship card just to say hello.  Hi, Jean Okimoto  here with a basic design that could work for birthdays too.  Or Mother's Day.P1012525

Cut the textured side of Open Studio Watercolor Paper with the top portion of the
Slim Pinpoint Heart Plate.  Use a sponge or blending brush to color it with picked raspberry, abandoned coral and kitsch flamingo Distress Oxides.  Spritz it with a light mist of water to create some shadowy areas.  Heat-set the inks.

Spritz it lightly with Imagine's Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz.  Air-dry it for a few minutes then heat-set it.

Diecut it with Balloon Bunch - place the die so there's a complete heart in the center balloon.  Leave the pieces in the die and tape them together on the backside.  It'll be a lot easier* to remove and attach the balloons and delicate outlines if they're intact.

Use dies from the Have a Heart set to cut a medium and 2 small hearts from a pink 6x6 in Graceful Garden Glitter Pad.

Tape white crochet thread or twine behind the balloon - cut the strands longer than necessary - it'll be easier* to trim them later.

Cut the BIG Hugs background from Kraft Woodgrain Paper (cardstock).  Pressure-emboss it with the delicate greeting to add dimension and make it easier* to attach the top layer.  Ink a scrap of watercolor paper with inks used for the balloons and diecut the top layer.

(*always looking for easier ways to do things!)

P1012567

Attach the diecuts to a Kraft Woodgrain slimline card (3-½" x 8-½") - use doublestick tape to attach the greeting (not glue) and balloon strings.  Add the orange/copper Treasure Chest Fairy Gemstones.  Trim the ends of the crochet thread.  Cut a slimline-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front if it'll be mailed.

Thanks for visiting  our blog - hope you'll have time to create a few cards this weekend!

Send big hugs with a glitzy, glittery pinpoint slimline design in a mix of neutrals and bright reds.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a simple, bold Valentine idea today.

MemoryBoxBigHugsPoshScript, MemoryBoxGlitzyGlitterPad, MemoryBoxGlitterPads, MemoryBoxEarthNeutral6x6, MemoryBox6x6Papers, MemoryBoxCo, MemoryBoxPolishedFoil, MemoryBoxMajesticHuesGlitterPad, MemoryBoxDoubleStitchHappyHeartCutOut, MemoryBoxFairyCrystals, JeanOkimoto, DiecutValentines, HeartDiecuts, HandmadeValentines, DIYCards, MakeCards, Papercrafting, Diecutting, ImpressCardsAndCrafts, MemoryBoxSlimBasicRectangleLayers, MemoryBoxSlimBurstPlate

Cut white cardstock with the 2.8" wide Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.  Cut the rectangle with the Slim Pinpoint Burst Plate.

Cut two strips of the dark brown Earth Neutral 6x6 sheet with the second-smallest Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.  Attach the strips along the top and bottom edges of the rectangle.

Cut the red Glitzy Glitter Pad sheet with the second-smallest Double Stitch Happy Heart Cut Out die.

Cut the bright red Polished Foil 6x6 with the smallest Double Stitch Happy Heart Cut Out die.  Apply glue to the small heart and press it very firmly onto the glittered heart.  The pressure  and the glittered background produce a slightly textured surface - almost like hammered metal or rough concrete.

Cut the BIG Hugs greeting from dark grayish Majestic Hues Glitter Pad 6x6. Cut the background from light kraft cardstock.  Pressure-emboss the backghround with the detailed greeting die.  Embossing adds texture and makes it easier to attach the top layer - just add tiny dots of glue and press it into the debossed areas.

Attach the diecuts to a light kraft slimline card (3-½" x 8-½").  Add dark brown Autumn Fairy Crystals.  Cut a slimline-sized layer of cardstock to protect the card front if you're mailing the card.

I chose earthy neutrals for this guy-card - try it in shades of peach or pink with sparkly iridescent pastel Fairy Crystals for the gals. This basic design would also work as a vertical slimline.

Big thanks to everyone ordering my WINTER BLISS Cards Kit from Impress!  Hope you like the designs and techniques and are discovering ways to use your UFO supplies - unused, forgotten and/or overlooked!

Thanks for visiting our blog...see you again on Friday!

Slimline Paper-Pieced Valentine by Jean Okimoto

Hi everyone,  Jean Okimoto here with a Valentine design that's a bit wonky and unusual - but I hope you like it!  Do you save offcuts and bits and pieces "for future projects" but forget to use them?  Here's a design using the gold foil Ring Stack and 2 sets of offcuts (red and white).

Cut white cardstock with the second-largest Wrapped Stitched Slim Rectangles die.  Cut the rectangle with the Ring Stack - we're using the white offcuts here too.

Cut gold Polished Foil 6x6 with Ring Stack - save the gold offcuts for that elusive "future project."

Here's an easy way to build a smooth inlaid background.  Place the rectangle face-down on a non-stick surface (used a plastic embossing plate here).  Attach ⅛"  (3mm) strips of lined doublestick tape to the reverse side of the diecut rectangle.  Skinny strips of tape instead of an entire adhesive-covered area provide a little wiggle-room for paper-piecing.

Flip it over and place the gold foil Ring Stack into the adhesive-backed cutouts.  Attach the white oval offcuts.

Cut a bright red 6x6 from the Berry Red Collection. Tape pairs of red ovals to form 3 hearts in graduated sizes.  Attach the hearts with foamtape.

Cut Love Airy Script from the bright red Festive Glitter 6x6  sheet.

Cut black cardstock with Mini Vintage Varsity Alphabet.  You can cut 4 sets of GROWS at once.  Use a stack of 3 or 4 Post-It notes as a straight edge guide to attach the letters.

Add the dark yellow/orange Treasure Chest Fairy Gemstones.

Attach everything to a white slimline card (3-½" x 8-⅜").  Cut a slimline-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

Watercolor Floral Thank You Notes
by Anne Thompson

There are two new dies in the Valentines 2022 Collection that I featured in today's thank you notes:  Cottage Flower Stem and Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral.

IMG_3472-ink

Let's look at this one first:  IMG_3476-ink

materials used

to make this card

  • trim cardstock 4X5.25 and adhere to the front of a white notecard
  • die cut the Woodgrain Heart from a darker cardstock and add to the notecard front
  • die cut the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral pieces from Watercolor Paper and paint with watercolor paints
  • assemble the blossom and leaves on the heart and add three of the Winter Fantasy Fairy Gemstones in the center of the blossom

IMG_3474-ink

And here is the card using the other floral die:

IMG_3473-ink

For this card I used a red cardstock on a red notecard, a yellow cardstock for the Woodgrain Heart, and both cardstocks for the Thank You.  The watercolored floral is the COTTAGE FLOWER STEM 94611.  I added a few CHRISTMAS FAIRY CRYSTALS CRY102 for a little extra sparkle.

These would make lovely valentines by changing the sentiment on each design.

Happy Crafting!

Blossom Birthday Wishes
by Trina Pham

9DF0575C-1F65-468D-B088-2524E1CF9A30

Hello and happy Sunday, everyone.  I have a simple birthday card to share today featuring the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral die from the 2022 Valentine’s collection.

The flower layers were die cut from Bristol paper and two shades of the Vibrant Violet paper.  The leaves were die cut from two shades of the Lush Green paper.  Added clear shimmer to the entire flower for some sparkle.

1EBB44E0-3768-4771-94B0-F1CC8D76218A

Next, white woodgrain paper was trimmed to 4.25”x5.5” (A2 size) and the Double Stitch Loving Heart was die cut from it.  Die cut the heart again this time from the same color paper as the flower center. Ran this heart cutout through the die cutting machine with the Pinpoint Burst Plate to give it the burst detail before inlaying it into the woodgrain panel opening.  The sentiment from Birthday Blowout stamp set by Poppy Stamps was initially white heat embossed directly on the heart, but the pinpoint detailing made it look splotchy… so it was heat embossed on the same plain color paper, fussy cut out and adhered over top.

A few clear Fairy drops finished off the card.  Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful week.

A Woodsy Plaid Valentine Garland
by Anne Thompson

Here's something different for Valentine's Day:  a garland using the Woodsy Plaid brown papers, the smallest Double Stitch Loving Heart Cut Out die, and twine.

IMG_3470-ink

materials used

IMG_3468-ink

to make the garland

  • cut the paper strips, fold in half (I used fifteen strips.)
  • place the die on top of the folded paper to cut through both layers using washi tape to hold the die in place while cutting  (Save the little plaid hearts for other projects.)

IMG_3469-ink

  • place Scor-Tape inside each folded paper piece, one piece near the fold and one near the bottom edge
  • leave a tail of twine about 18" long and place the first heart-punched strip over the twine, remove the Scor-Tape backing, and press the two sections together to secure in place
  • add other heart-punched papers about 4" apart along the twine
  • leave another long 18" tail at the end
  • knot the tail ends and the garland is ready to hang

IMG_3470-ink

This garland is the perfect thing for around a window or doorway or above the fireplace in my old farmhouse.  The browns are just right with my decor.  If you make a garland, choose papers that compliment the colors in your home.  A valentine garland does not need to be red and white.

Valentine Flat Shaker Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone!  I have a valentine card using the plastic sleeve from the dies to create a flat shaker card.  I have been seeing them around and found out how to make them.  They are really easy to make and using the plastic packaging the dies come in.

7FCA0568-B484-484D-9EFC-4AD0DFE9F642_1_201_a

Background Panel:

Use the smooshing technique with Distress Oxide Shaded Lilac and Spun Sugar smooshed on a glass mat.  Spritz the ink.  Take Open Studio Watercolor paper, sprig with water, and dab in the ink randomly.  Re-ink and repeat until you have a light color.  Let dry.  Trim down paper just under 4" x 4".

CC265394-A51C-42AC-A110-EEA74B061B63_1_201_a
Die Cuts:

Die cut both the Neighborhood Heart Frame and Sending Love Posh Scrip dies from a matching paper from the Twilight Purple pad.  Die cut the 2nd smallest Double Stitch Loving Heart die from the white Polished Foil paper pad.  Adhere the sentiment to the heart die cut.

AA17C247-FC3F-44A7-BAA9-0304D6FF15CF_1_201_a
AA17C247-FC3F-44A7-BAA9-0304D6FF15CF_1_201_a

Shaker:

Cut the plastic sleeve the dies come in to create 1 flat sheet that is around 5 1/4" x 5 1/4".  Add double sided tape around the back of the background panel.  Remove only 3 sides of the tape and lay front side down in the center of the plastic sheet.  Wrap the plastic sheet over 1 side than the opposites side, making sure the plastic is tight.  Trim down the corners so the plastic lays flat. Trim the other side too. Pour Distress Rock Candy Glitter and Mica Flakes into the front pouch.  Remove the backing from the adhesive and fold down the plastic tight.

Assembly:

Create a 41/4" 4 1/4" card base from white card stock.  Add double sided tape or tape running to the back side of the shaker.  Adhere to the front center of the card base.  Add 1/8" double sided tape around the Neighborhood Heart Frame outside edge and heart.  Adhere to the top of the shaker.  Add double sided tape to the back of the heart with the sentiment and adhere to the center of the frame. Add a purple Fair Jewel for the top of the "I".  You cannot use liquid glue to adhere to the plastic and hence why the sentiment is added to the heart first then the shaker element.

Not Just an Old Lamp Post
by Trina Pham

B634187E-E626-4F4E-9013-562B1EE494B6

Hello everyone.  Hope your first week of the new year is off to a good start.  Mine pretty much picked up where 2021 left off, so I’m hoping for a better year! 🤗  Anyway, it may be a new year, but I’m still playing with products from the Holiday collection last year.  I didn’t get a chance to use the Old Lamp Post die yet, so I stretched it into a birdhouse for a love/Valentine’s card.

Started by die cutting the lamp post, heart frame, branch and birds from Bristol paper.  The heart frame was die cut twice and stacked for dimension.  This also resulted in two cutouts of the inside heart.  Took one of them and blended gray and black dye inks on it… it will be inlaid later on.  Next, traced the lower portion of lamp post onto white woodgrain paper and fussy cut out, forming the background layer.   Used a finger blending brush to apply Picked Raspberry distress ink (DI) to it and the birds.

653E0983-BD92-4DE1-8598-98FDF1A85EDF

Since there was leftover white woodgrain paper, the letters were die cut from it and then ombré colored with Picked Raspberry DI as well.  Adhered and assembled the pieces onto a gray panel then mounted it onto a white card base.  Dotted in the birds’ eyes with a fine black pen to finish.

081F9D0D-4A1F-45B9-80E7-5DB63074CB2E

So as I was completing my card, I saw something else I could stretch this lamp post to.  😉

313EE059-EFED-4480-B149-3043CC31932F

It makes an adorable coffee cup, don’t you think?  I decided to make a masculine birthday card this time.  As you can see, the top of the lamp post was cut off.  The other heart cutout from the first card was colored with Candied Apple and Black Soot DI.

AD3A89D1-5CED-4337-8A61-57330161FA84

The cup sleeve was embossed with the Ringadings 3D embossing folder, then a light brushing of Black Soot DI was applied to help the pattern show.  A punny sentiment finished it off!

And that is it from me.  Thank you for joining me today.  Enjoy your day.

With Love and a Rose Bouquet Heart by Jean Okimoto

P1011386

Hello and Happy '22!  Jean Okimoto here with a quick card to start the year.  Diecut Rose Bouquet Wide Washi Tape and layer it over a leaf-green Jumbled Lines Collage.  Add a quick stamped and diecut greeting and sparkly Fairy Crystals - that's it!  The design is simple, versatile and matches several of the greetings in the Big and Little Reverse Words stamp set.

Cut white cardstock with the 3.1 x 8.1" Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.  Cut the rectangle with Jumbled Line Collage.  Cut a strip of soft green 6x6 from the Lush Green Collection and attach it behind the collage.  Attach  the rectangle to a white slimline card (3-½" x 8-½").

Attach Rose Bouquet Wide Washi Tape to pale pink cardstock and cut it with the second-largest Double Stitch Happy Heart die.  Attach it to the card with doublestick tape at the bottom and foamtape at the top for dimension.

Stamp the greeting - from the Big and Little Reverse Words Clear Stamp and Die Set - on white cardstock with Rocket Red Gold Brilliance.  Dry the ink, then cut it with the die that's included in the set.  Attach it with foamtape.

P1011397

Add the pale green Christmas Fairy Crystals.  Cut a slimline-sized sheet of cardstock to protect the card front if you're mailing the card.

The Rose Bouquet and Sunset Blush Wide Washi Tapes are perfect for Valentine cards - or any card you need in a hurry!  They have handcolored-look with a soft frosty shimmer.  Attach the tapes to backgrounds of different colors - or crisp white.  The adhesive is very secure - no flyaway edges or corners here!

Thanks for visiting - see you again on Friday!
