Curled Waves Heart Hugs by Jean Okimoto

Hi everyone - need a friendship card?   Rotate Curled Waves and pair them into swoopy hearts for a new look on a tall slimline. Jean Okimoto here with a simple design in soft shades of peach, gold and gray.  It's versatile too - switch to reds and pinks in February.

Attach Birch Press Design Shimmer Lines Wide Washi Tape to light peach cardstock.  Cut it with the dies from the Curled Waves 3D Embossing Folder and Cutting Dies set.

Cut three small Double Stitch Loving Heart Cut Outs from the gold sheet in the Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad.   Create swoopy, wonky hearts with pairs of the Curled Waves   - overlap the halves and attach them to the gold hearts.

Tape a piece of gold cord behind each heart.  Attach the hearts to a pale gray slimline card (3-⅝" x 8-½") - use foam dots for the heart on the right.

Cut the delicate Big Hearts Posh Script from the light peach 6x6 in the Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad.  Leave it in the die and attach lined doublestick tape behind the diecut and run it through the machine to cut the tape layer.  Remove the tiny bits in the B, g and s.

Cut the solid Big Hugs background from the pale gray cardstock - and again from cardboard.  Attach the gray layer to the cardboard layer for dimension.  Press the  "self--adhesive" delicate diecut (still in the die) firmly onto the gray layer,

Arrange the gold cord and tape it to the card under the BI section.  Attach the greeting - use foam tape under the BI, H and s.

Cut two of the small Intricate Mini Butterflies from the pale peach sheet in the Delicate Pastel 6x6.

Curled Waves can be more than just waves - they can also be question marks if you ever need a card with questions marks.

Thanks for visiting...see you again on Friday!

Heartfelt Hot Foil Posh Hugs by Jean Okimoto

Send a floral heartfelt hugs card to someone who would appreciate a bit of encouragement and support.  Hi, happy weekend - Jean Okimoto here with another great new poppy die set from our May Collection.  It's Graceful Poppy Stems - a set of two dies that cut 6 designs.

Cut Graceful Poppy Stems from a dark red-pink sheet in the Berry Red Collection.  Color the stems with a black marker.  Cut the centers from the yellow glitter sheet in the Graceful Garden Glitter Pad.

Assemble the poppies - use foam tape between the layers of the smaller blossom.

Cut a pink Berry Red Collection sheet with the 2 largest Double Stitch Happy Heart Cut Out.  This creates a medium-sized heart surrounded by stitching inside the large heart.

Use the new Posh Hugs Hot Foil Plate to apply the greeting to black cardstock.  Diecut it with the coordinating die.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded A2 card of Kraft Woodgrain Paper (it's cardstock).  The earthy brown color keeps the card from looking like a Valentine and lets it work throughout the year.

Add gold Autumn Fairy Crystals.  Cut an A2-sized rectangle of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

Thanks for visiting the blog...have a great weekend!

Scattered Blossoms by Jean Okimoto

P1015300 3

Here's a spring card for a Mom - or anyone - who loves flowers and hearts.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a scattered flowers slimline design combining Memory Box and Poppystamps blossoms on a Madras Plaid background.

Cut Hex Half Pinpoint from a Madras Plaid Coral and Green 6x6.  Cut the second-largest Double Stitch Happy Heart Cut Out from the pale peach Delicate Pastels Glitter Pad 6x6.  The double stitches are an outline surrounding the heart - we're using just the inside heart here.

Cut Layered Cosmos twice from the Berry Red Collection 6x6.  Assemble the flowers.

Cut the Poppystamps Potpourri Flower Set from the Berry Red 6x6 and the pale peach Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad 6x6.

Prepare a pale green speckled recycled cardstock slimline card (3-½" x 8-½").  Attach the top edges, sides and bottom of the plaid Hex Half to the card.  Tuck the tip of the heart behind the Hex Half.  Attach the flowers.

Add green Christmas Fairy Jewels for sparkly accents.

Two Hex Halfs (halves?) create a mirror-image hexagon window - but it's a great single die for pockets too.  You can even tuck a giftcard into it for Mother's Day, or any occasion.  Hope your gardens are beginning to bloom and provide a source of inspiration for your cards!

Thanks for visiting the blog - see you in May!

Blooms for Mom
by Trina Pham

Hello everyone.  Mother’s Day is celebrated at different times of the year all over the world.  With my Mother’s Day in two weeks, I have a Mother’s Day card I created for my mother-in-law to share today.  It features the Riverbank Large Layered Blooms and Exquisite Leaf Set dies from the recent Spring release.

Because I wanted these large blooms to all fit on the card without crowding or hanging off-the-edge, this card is A6 size.  The card base and a layering piece are 4.5”x6.25” cut from heavy-weight white paper.  Using the partial die cutting technique with a long and narrow extended cutting pad, ran the layering piece through the die cutting machine twice with the Slim Pinpoint Heart Plate resulting in this.

Down the middle was a mess, but it didn’t matter as most of it will be covered up anyway.  For some texture, splattered it with diluted black gouache paint, then set aside to dry.

The flower layers and leaves were die cut next from white cardstock.  The leaves and flower centers were colored with Copic Sketch markers.

greens - YG61, YG63, YG67
white centers - C00, C1, C3

Ink blending with distress inks (DI) was used to color the flower layers.  Shaded Lilac DI was applied to the middle circumference area of each layer using a blender brush, while Villainous Potion DI was applied to the centers with a finger brush before putting them together.

“Mom” was die cut from white glitter paper using the shadow dies of the Bennett Alphabet die set for a chunkier greeting.  Glued the letters onto a 1” Twilight Purple paper strip, then added the drop shadow with a C3 Copic Sketch marker.  Assembled the card, popping the bottom right flower up with foam adhesives for additional dimension.  Applied clear shimmer on the flowers for more sparkle to finish.

And that does it for my card.  Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful day.

Happy Valentine's Day!
by Anne Thompson

One last valentine, I promise, to celebrate today!  Happy Valentine's Day!  This one will go to my father who will be ninety-nine this Wednesday, and my next project later today will be to make his birthday card (which will probably include lots of blue plaid).

materials used

to make this card

  • cover the front of a white notecard with a brown plaid paper
  • die cut the Slim Pinpoint Burst Plate 94557 from Woodgrain Kraft Paper SH44003
  • die cut the Verdant Leaf Collage 94525 from one of the darker brown cardstock papers in the Earth Neutral Collection SP1009; trim to fit the card front without covering all of the plaid paper
  • align the Verdant Leaf Collage on top of the Slim Pinpoint Burst; adhere it when happy with its position; trim off extra
  • add this piece to the card front; trim off extra paper

  • die cut a heart from another brown plaid paper using the second from largest die in the Scallop Pinpoint heart set
  • die cut a heart from another brown plaid paper using the smallest die in the Double Stitch heart set
  • glue the two hearts together; place onto the card front, tucking the heart under the largest leaf

Happy Hearts and Watercolored Bubbles by Jean Okimoto

Here's a simple Valentine idea that's quick and easy - especially if you already have a stash of watercolored or ink-blended backgrounds waiting to be used.  Hi everyone, Jean Okimoto here, pairing two die designs that seem like perfect partners.  The upbeat Bubble Border and curvy dotted Scallop Pinpoint Loving Heart Cut Out are a happy combo for Valentine's Day - or any day!

I used a strip of watercolored and gold-spritzed watercolor paper from my stash.  The mix of pink, peach and pale orange keeps it from being strictly Valentine-ish.

Cut white cardstock with the 2-¼" X 7-¼" Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.  Cut the rectangle with the Bubble Border.  Attach a strip of watercolored or ink-blended cardstock behind it.

Tape the 3 smallest Scallop Pinpoint Loving Heart Cut Out dies together - offset towards the right.  Cut the triple-heart from a dark pink 6x6 in the Berry Red Collection.  Leave the diecuts in the dies, tape them together on the backside and remove them all at once.

Stamp the greeting - from the Big and Little Reverse Words Clear Stamp Set - on white cardstock with Melon Impress Fresh Ink.  Heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.  Cut it with the coordinating die incuded in the stamp set.

Attach the diecuts to a white slimline card (3-½" x 8-½") - use foamtape for the greeting.  Add the copper-y Treasure Chest Fairy Gemstones.  Cut a slimline-sized rectangle of cardstock to protect the card front if you're mailing the card.

Need a wedding or anniversary card?  Upgrade this design in shades of gold, rose gold or silver (or all three!).  Toast the happy couple with champagne glass diecuts above the greeting.

Thanks for visiting our blog - wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day if you're celebrating on Monday!

Puppy Love by Jean Okimoto

Here's a Valentine design for dog people - and a bit of pink-spiration for February's Tickled Pink Challenge.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, let's build a woodgrained doghouse for the Poppystamps Whittle Scottie.

The Poppystamps Whittle Scottie and Word Balloons were bought to make card kits  - they're great with Memory Box designs too!

P1012900 2

Cut House Frame Background fron a pink 6x6 in the Berry Red Collection.  Prep the Wood Grain Planks die by rubbing it briskly with a scrunched waxed paper for easier removal.  Cut pink background with the Wood Grain Planks die - leave the pieces in the die.  Tape the pieces together with Scotch Tape or Magic Tape for easier removal as a single background piece vs. separate planks.

Cut the woodgrain background with the door die.  Cut the door again with a taupe 6x6 from the Earth Neutral Collection.  Cut the House frame including one scored section at the bottom from the same taupe 6x6 - keep the tiny piece at the top and tape it in place.

Cut the streamer sections of the Heart Streamer Globe from a bright pink 6x6 in the Berry Red Collection.  Sbnip the streamers from the globe frame - keep the "string" attached to the hearts at the ends.  Attach the streamers behind the edges of the taupe frame - and between the streamers

Attach the pink woodgrain background.

Cut 2 fence pieces - from the House Frame set - from natural cardstock.  Trim one right and one left side.

Cut the Poppystamps Whittle Scottie from a dark brown Earth Neutral 6x6.  Cut another Scottie from black cardstock and layer it for dimension.  Color the nose with a black marker.  Attach three pink jewels from the Bright Jewels set.

Cut the word bubble from the Poppystamps Word Balloons set. Stamp the greeting - from the Big and Little Valentine Words Clear Stamps - with Charming Pink VersaFine Clair.  Quickly heat-emboss it with detail clear powder,

Attach the diecuts to a Cream Woodgrain Paper (cardstock) A-2 card - use foamtape behind the top of the house and the Scottie's head.

Lots of little details on this design - but they'll be appreciated by the recipient! Thanks for visiting - see you again on Friday...

Hearts and Flowers
by Anne Thompson

I have a few more valentines today, and these use floral printed papers and glitter papers with the Sprinkle Heart Collage, a Scallop Pinpoint Loving Heart Cut Out, and the letters "love" from the Bennet Alphabet.

I used the same procedures for both cards but let's take a closer look at the one on the right with the red glitter paper.

To make this card...

  • I started with a white notecard.
  • I chose a floral paper from COTTAGE MEADOW PP1003 and cut into the left side with the SPRINKLE HEART COLLAGE 94548.  I discarded the small heart pieces and secured the floral paper to the front of the notecard.
  • I then chose a red glitter paper from the GLITZY GLITTER PAD GP1007, added some Scor-Tape to the back, and cut the Sprinkle Heart Collage again, this time taking the cut out heart pieces and inserting them into the open spaces of the Sprinkle Heart Collage on the card front.
  • Next I cut one of the larger SCALLOP PINPOINT LOVING HEARTS 94364 from more of the red glitter paper and added it to the card front with Scor-Tape.
  • I added Scor-Tape to the back of some red glitter paper scraps and cut the letters "l, o, v, e" using the dies from the BENNET ALPHABET 94582, and added this sentiment to the lower right on the card front.

For the pink card...

  • I used a floral paper from the SPRINGTIME BOUQUET PAPER PAD PP1006 and pink glitter paper from the DELICATE PASTEL GLITTER PAD GP 1001.
  • I followed the same procedures as outlined with the first card.

And...then I made two more cards using the ROSE BROCADE WIDE WASHI TAPE WT499 and cardstock from the BERRY RED COLLECTION SP1001 with more of the pink glitter papers.

One more week until Valentines Day...

Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral Slimline by Jean Okimoto

Hi and happy weekend!  Jean Okimoto here with a design to celebrate Valentine's Day, a special friendship or - planning far ahead - Mother's Day.  The Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral is my new favorite flower set - hope you enjoy creating with it too!

P1012729 2
Cut the base flower from two shades of pink in the Berry Red 6x6 Collection.  Cut the detailed top layer from the lighter pink 6x6.  Squirt and spread big dots (that sounds nicer than "blobs") of Open Studio Berry Mist Glitter Glue onto it.  Set it aside to dry.

Cut the leaves and two-piece layered center from sheets in the Lush Green 6x6 Collection.

Assemble the flower and attach the leaves.

Cut the largest Double Stitch Loving Heart from a Madras Plaid Coral and Green 6x6.  Cut the second-largest heart from a dark red/coral sheet from the Berry Red set.

Cut a pink sheet from the Berry Red set with the smallest Wrapped Stitched Slim Rectangles die.  Cut another half-piece and attach it to the full piece to create a 7" strip - the heart diecut will cover the joined pieces.

Attach the diecuts to a white slimline card (3-½" x 8-½") - use foam dots to attach the plaid heart.  Add red Christmas Fairy Crystals.  Cut a slimline-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

Thanks for visiting this weekend - see you next week!

A Valentine for a Special Fella
by Anne Thompson

I found a few pieces of brown plaid paper from the Woodsy Plaid paper pad that I think worked quite well to make a more masculine valentine for today's post.  (I apologize for the quality of the photos--not sure what is going on with my camera.)

to make this card

  • begin with a white notecard and add a piece of brown WOODSY PLAID PP1018 paper cut 4 X 5.25  Thumbnail
  • using the HEART FRAME BACKGROUND 94606 and KRAFT WOODGRAIN PAPER SH44003, cut out the house to use as a birdhouse with the heart as the opening; cut a few extra hearts--the die cuts both outlines and solid hearts

  • add the house to the card front; stack three of the heart outlines together and glue into the birdhouse opening; stack the three small hearts together and add to the lower left on the card front using a foam dot
  • die cut the body of the SERENE BIRD 94620 from one of the light brown papers in the EARTH NEUTRAL COLLECTION SP1009 and its wing from one of the dark browns

  • secure the wing to the bird with a Glue Dot; add foam dimensional dots behind the bird and add it to the card; add a tiny black gem for its eye
  • die cut the GENTLE PINE SPRIG 94597 from a dark brown plaid paper and again from the dark brown cardstock; layer them together with the plaid on top, and tuck under the bird with another Glue Dot

  • for the inside of the card die cut the letters LOVE using dies from WOODGRAIN ALPHA 94579 from both the dark brown cardstock and the dark brown plaid; layer them together with the plaid on top

When mailing a card that has lots of dimension on the front and/or gems, add a piece of cardstock or thin bubble wrap on top when placing the card in the envelope.  It will help to protect both the card front and the envelope.  Cards like this usually take more postage and may need to be hand-cancelled.

Happy Crafting!
