Blend the warm colors of a summer sunset onto Open Studio Watercolor Paper and add 3D embossing to create a floral card for any occasion.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with another Garden Party Collection design before we introduce you to our 2020 Holiday Collection.

Cut the smoother side of Open Studio Watercolor Paper with the 4" Square Basics die.  Spritz it with a light mist of water and sponge it with overlapping layers of Distress Oxides.  I've used spun sugar, squeezed lemonade and dried marigold here - but any combination of your favorite soft pastels would work for this design.

Air-dry the inks.  Moisten the reverse side of the paper with another quick spritz of water to prep it for embossing.  Emboss it with the Floral Corner 3D Embossing Folder using the plate(s) required for your machine.  Here's what I used for my Platinum - thick base platform, folder with the watercolor paper (inked side up) and two layers of 80# cardstock.  No embossing mats or plates.

Place the embossed paper on a smooth, hard surface and distress it with sandpaper or a sanding block.  I used #180 sandpaper and short, light upward strokes. Remove the residue with a tissue.  Attach it to a side-folded 5-½" square white card.

Stamp the greeting - from the Peony Garden Corner Clear Stamp and Die Set - on white cardstock with Melon Fresh Ink.  Heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.  Cut the top and two sides with the 2-½" Square Basics die, then trim the bottom edge.  Attach it with foam tape.

Color the white glitter sheet from the Delicate Pastel Glitter Pad with a Copic, Sharpie or Zebra Mildliner pen.  Punch ¼" accent dots.

It's All About The Stencil
by Michelle Bala

1

Hello there! Michelle here, showing off this beautiful stencil, Ring Tile Stencil. I inked it up on some Memory Box's Watercolor Paper....awesome paper!!
1

I used distress oxide ink in victorian velvet....a perfect dusty mauve shade!  I stamped the sentiment in black ink. Than I adhered my stenciled panel to the card base.  I stamped and die cut the Peony Garden Corner Stamp. I really wanted the stencil to stand out, so I only used one Copic Marker to add subtle color. I used shade E41 and just added some shadows to the petals and leaves.
1

I positioned the corner bouquet in the corner and adhered with foam tape.  Than I die cut some leaves using an oldie but goodie die, Scribble Leaf Bundle Outline. Adhere the leaves than add some paint splatters in black. For a finishing touch I added some glittery gems.

Thanks for peeking!

Giulia Border and a Concentric-Cut Set of Echo Blossoms by Jean Okimoto

P1160391

The new Giulia Border is a delicate backdrop for the bold concentric-cut Poppystamps Echo Blossoms.  It's esy to create the look of stacked floral layers - without the bulk - by cutting a single layer of Memory Box Open Studio Watercolor Paper with 6 of the Echo Blossoms dies. Hi everyone, Jean Okimoto here sharing a summer design today.

Arrange the dies - cut-side down - and tape them together.

P1000264
Flip them over and brush the remaining exposed tape with the embossing powder prep tool to keep the tape from sticking to the whatever you're diecutting.  The tape holds the dies securely - while the powder coats and deactivates the rest of the adhesive.

I diecut some pink/coral/orange-sponged Memory Box Open Studio Watercolor Paper from the stash. Leave the diecuts in the die and tape them together across the back to handle them as one piece.

Stamp the greeting - from the Poppystamps Greeting Basics Clear Stamp Set - on a scrap of the inked paper with Morning Mist VersaFine Clair.  Dry the ink, then cut it with the second-smallest Echo Blossom Die.

Cut the gray Dashing Stripes and Dots 6x6 cardstock with the medium Stylish Rectangle Trio die.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to white cardstock and cut Giulia Border.  The extra layer adds dimension to the diecut without having to glue two diecuts together.

Attach the diecuts to a light gray A6 card (4-½" x 6-¼").  Cut yellow glitter cardstock - from the Twinkling Jewel 6x6 Glitter Pack - with the smallest Echo Blossom die.  Punch matching ¼" circles for little accents too.

Scribble Rose Trio in the Circle Fold Frame by Jean Okimoto

P1160312 3

The Scribble Rose Trio and Background fit perfectly into the new Poppystamps Circle Fold Frame.  Add details and texture with the Poppystamps Scallop Small Curve Border and a few glittered dots  - and your card is ready to go.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a mix of Memory Box and Poppystamps designs on a simple summer card.

P1160255

The Poppystamps Circle Fold Frame cuts and scores the left and right panels for a square card.  Cut two frames from pale yellow-green cardstock.  Crease them on the "circle fold."  Pressure-emboss the folded panels with the Poppystamps Scallop Small Curve Border. Adhere the vertical inside edges of the panels.

Cut the  pale yellow-green cardstock with the 4-¼" Square Basics die.  Attach the tabs of the folded panels to the right and left sides of the square.

The Circle Fold Frame set includes a die to cut a smaller inside circle.  Use it to cut the pale green Garden Folly 6x6 print.  Attach it in the center of the card.

Cut the detailed Scribble Rose Trio from Easter Grass cardstock.  Cut the solid background from Juicy Pear cardstock.  Layer the diecuts and attach them to the Garden Folly print circle.

Punch ¼" dots of the green glittered cardstock from the 6x6 Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pack.

Diecut Wide Washi Tape Stickers by Jean Okimoto

P1000045

Memory Box and Poppystamps dies create unique washi tape stickers for any project  Add them to cards, giftbags, tags, party favors or decor for color-coordinated accents with a very strong adhesive.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with 2 easy summer cards.  I use a lot of labels, sticker sheets and laminates - I'll have a stash of of the liner sheets if I save them.

P1000038

Attach Cornelia Aqua Wide Washi Tape to a recycled liner sheet from address labels.  Cut it with the Poppystamps Thank You Stitched Tag. Cut the Poppystamps Grosgrain Bow and the tag's "thank you"  from pale peach cardstock.  Attach everything to a side-folded blue 5 x 3 ½" notecard.

Cut the middle-sized Geodesic Oval from the washi tape too.  Cut the Geodesic Oval again from natural white cardstock - we're using the frame. Place the smallest Poppystamps Flora Bloom in the 2 ¼" Flora Blooms Solids die.  Cut natural cardstock with the double-die. Color a light-colored Delicate Pastel glitter cardstock sheet with a marker.  Let the ink dry, then punch ¼" circles.  Cut a scrap of it to fit behind the circles in the diecut flower.

Stamp the greeting from the Peony Garden Corner Clear Stamps on natural cardstock with Morning Mist VersaFine Clair.  Attach the Geodesic Oval, Flora Blooms and greeting to a top-folded A2 card of Coral Cream cardstock.  Add the glitter dots.

Coloring Embossed Patterns
by Michelle Bala

33

Happy Friday!!! Michelle here. I really love the newest embossing folder, Gracious Leaves 3D. It is so pretty when brought to life with color. You can color the leaves and berries to coordinate with every season.

Memory Box (1)

This is what the panel looks like before I colored the background and added embellishments. I used Copic Markers in just afew shades. For the berries I used RV00, RV52 and W2. For the leaves I used YG21, G20, G21, G24, and W2. For the background I used BG10 and BG11.

33

After the coloring was complete, I added a few paint splatters with white and gold paint. Than I added some shimmer with Fairy Sugar in shades Berry Mist for the berries and Mint Frost for the leaves.

33

I embossed the sentiment and butterfly from the stamp set Peony Garden Corner Clear Stamp, onto vellum paper.  For a finishing touch I added two gem stones.
I hope you give this a try!!!

Rose Blossoms – Embossed, Layered and Glittered by Jean Okimoto

P1160053

Create long-stemmed roses with the new Rose Blossom Die Set and Gilia Stems from a earlier release - then add them to a simple all-occasion card.  Just another way to mix, match and alter your Memory Box diecuts and discover new designs.  Hello and happy weekend - Jean Okimoto here with a bright summer card for you.

We're using another Leafy Jumble Stencil background from a variation of a Jennifer McGuire technique.  Details are on my previous post.  One sheet of ink-blended Open Studio Watercolor Paper and spritzed water produces two ink-lifted backgrounds and one heat-embossed background.

P1160068

Sponge worn lipstick, carved pumpkin and squeezed lemonade Distress Oxides on smooth white cardstock for the blossoms.  Heat-set the inks.  Cut two each of the Rose Blossom and Background.  Pressure-emboss the backgrounds using the detailed die, rubber embossing mat and embossing plate(s) required for your machine.

Spread a large drop of Goldfinch Open Studio Glitter Glue in the center of the pressure-embossed background - cover an area about ¾" in diameter.  Attach the detailed diecut. Pressure-embossing the background adds an extra layer of dimension.

Cut the stems of the Gilia Stems set.  Remove the small lower leaf of the longer stem - it'll be re-attached higher later.

Trim the Leafy Jumble background with the 3-½" x 4-¾" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut accent strips from Sour Apple (1-⅜" x 4") and Juicy Pear (⅞" x 4-½") cardstock. Trim the stems to fit on the accent strip.  Attach everything to a side-folded A2 card of Sour Apple cardstock.

P1160062

Social-distanced crafting won't replace the great friendships and experiences shared in classes but it keeps us connected right now.  Thank you for purchasing my card kits through Impress Cards and Crafts here in Washington - and Stamps and Memories in Hawaii.  Thanks also for selecting and supporting these great independent retailers - and Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press Designs - during these challenging times.

Emboss the Leafy Jumble Background by Jean Okimoto

Let's make another card using one of the three Leafy Jumble Stencil backgrounds we created in my previous post.  It's the original Distress Oxide-inked sheet of Open Studio Watercolor Paper.  Hi there, Jean Okimoto here with the second of three cards we're making using a variation of a great Jennifer McGuire technique.

Use the Leafy Jumble Stencil and a water-spritzed sheet of Open Studio Watercolor Paper to lift the inks from a heavily-inked sheet of watercolor paper. Repeat the lifting  with a second sheet of watercolor paper for another background.

Stencil VersaMark onto the original inked paper and heat-emboss it with detail clear powder to create the background for today's card. Cut it with the 3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut white cardstock with the large Poppystamps Flora Blooms die.  Attach a scrap of the yellow glittered cardstock from the 6"x6" Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pack behind the flower.

Cut Birthday Cursive Script Circle from yellow cardstock - leave the teeny dot over the "i" in the die until you're ready to attach it to the background.

Stamp "greetings" - from the Cherry Blossom Wreath Clear Stamps and Die Set - on yellow cardstock with Shady Lane VersaFine Clair.  Dry the ink, then trim the cardstock with the smallest Rectangle Basics die.  Cut the excess off the short end with the side of a larger rectangle die for a nice trimmed edge.

Attach everything to a top-folded white A-2 card - position the Birthday Cursive Script Circle so the dot over the "i" can be securely attached to an area that's not embossed and glossy.  Add ¼" punched circles of the yellow Twinkling Jewel glittered cardstock.

Trio of Inked Backgrounds – Part 1 by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxOpenStudioWatercolorPaper, MemoryBoxGracefulRoseAndBackground, MemoryBoxScribbleFrondBackground, MemoryBoxTwinklingJewelGlitterPad, MemoryBoxPeonyGardenCornerClearStampsAndDies, MemoryBoxLeafyJumbleStencil, JeanOkimoto, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, VersaMark, ImagineCrafts, DistressOxides, FlowerDiecuts, LeafDiecuts, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Ink it once, spritz twice and create a trio of watercolored backgrounds for greetings from  the Garden Party Collection.  The Leafy Jumble Stencil is perfect for this process inspired by Jennifer McGuire's great technique.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a variation that takes advantage of the great stencils in our collection.  We're using Open Studio Watercolor Paper to lift the colors from the open areas of the stencil.  The resulting backgrounds have a shadowy, lightly-embossed look.

P1150912

Spritz the smoother side of Open Studio Watercolor Paper with a light mist of water and sponge the paper with Distress Oxides. Colors used here -  peeled paint, twisted citron, mowed lawn and cracked pistachio.  Heat-set the inks.

Have your embossing mat and plate ready. Start stacking the layers - paper towel, inked Open Studio Watercolor Paper, stencil.

Spritz the smoother side of plain Open Studio Watercolor Paper with a "medium" coat of water (not too light, not too drippy). Place the spritzed side of the watercolor paper over the stencil.  Add the embossing mat and plate(s) required for your machine.  Run it through the machine 2 or 3 times.  A leafy layer of ink will be transferred to the uninked watercolor paper.

Spritz another sheet of Open Studio Watercolor Paper and run it through the machine for a second, lighter transfer of ink through the stencil.

MemoryBoxOpenStudioWatercolorPaper, MemoryBoxGracefulRoseAndBackground, MemoryBoxScribbleFrondBackground, MemoryBoxTwinklingJewelGlitterPad, MemoryBoxPeonyGardenCornerClearStampsAndDies, MemoryBoxLeafyJumbleStencil, JeanOkimoto, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, VersaMark, ImagineCrafts, DistressOxides, FlowerDiecuts, LeafDiecuts, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Here are the backgrounds we've created.  Heat-set the three sheets of watercolor paper.  Clean the stencil, then align it over the original inky background and sponge the design with VersaMark.  Heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.  We'll use the other two backgrounds on another post.

Cut the darker leafy background with the 3-¾" x 5" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut the Graceful Rose and Background from yellow cardstock  Pressure-emboss the background with the coordinating detailed die. Attach the detailed diecut to the embossed background.

Cut Leafy Frond from green cardstock.  Cut white cardstock with the 2" x 3-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Stamp "hello" - from the

Peony Garden Corner Clear Stamps and Dies Set - with Shady Lane VersaFine Clair.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded 5-½" square white card.  (Square cards require extra postage.)  Add ¼" punched dots of the green glittered cardstock from the 6x6 Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pad.

"happy birthday to you" with Garden Folly papers on an embossed Chrysanthemum Field
by Anne Thompson

Today I have a birthday card with lots of pretty layers using coordinating papers from the Garden Folly 6 X 6 paper pad, the Chrysanthemum Field embossing folder, and several dies from the Garden Party Collection.

IMG_2513-ink

I started with choosing papers from the GARDEN FOLLY PAPER PAD PP1005.  I selected a narrow stripe to use with the Spring 2020 CHRYSANTHEMUM FIELD EMBOSSING FOLDER EF 1001.

IMG_2497-ink

I used a sanding block over the raised images to add even more distress and expose more of the white under layer.

IMG_2498-ink

I trimmed that piece to 5 X 4 1/4 and adhered it to a white notecard.  I then cut some coordinating papers into flags--1 1/2 X 5 and 1 X 4 with vees snipped on the bottom edges--to use with a piece of white paper doily on the card front.

IMG_2505-ink

Next I made the layered square card piece with a white 2 1/2" square on the bottom and the successive squares each smaller by 1/4".  I stamped "happy birthday to you" from the BEST LIFE TYPEWRITER SENTIMENTS clear stamp set CL5237 in VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink on the center white square after cutting the words apart to fit on a small square acrylic block.  I added the smallest of the BUBBLE CIRCLES 94439 (cut from a scrap of the striped paper) around the sentiment and also included a white cardstock GIULIA BORDE R 94411  on the left edge.

IMG_2510-ink

On the inside, I added a piece of Garden Folly paper 5 1/4 X 4 and a white rectangle 4 3/4 X 3 1/2.  I cut two candles from more of the striped paper using the TALL BIRTHDAY CANDLES die 94395 and added those on the bottom left.

IMG_2509

Another look at the finished card...
