Gather an assortment of spring blossoms for a Mother's Day card and mix, match and layer them for dimension.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a slimline design for a stylish Mom - with casual upside-down Wooden Alpha W's instead of the proper M's.  We're using the new Birch Press Design Wispy Bloom Contour Layers for their pointy, contrasting look.

Blend salvaged patina and shaded lilac Distress Oxides on smooth white cardstock.  Add a light spritz of water and let the colors blend as they dry.  Cut it with the 2-¼" x 7-¼" Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.

Cut Ruffled Blooms from different shades of Lush Green and Fresh Aqua 6x6 sheets.  Cut some extra centers from Lush Green sheets.

Cut Layered Periwinkle from Vibrant Violet and Twilight Purple 6x6 sheets.

Cut the Birch Press Design Wispy Blooms Contour Layers from Twilight Purple sheets.  Cut the stems from a Lush Green sheet.

Cut the wide leaves from the Exquisite Leaf Set from a Lush Green sheet.  Trim the larger branch - we're using the 2 lower leaves here.

Attach the ink-blended rectangle - at a wonky angle - to a white slimline card (3-⅝" x 8-⅝"). Attach the leaves and the assembled flowers.

Diecut the letters from the turquoise Rainbow Reflections Mirror Pad 6x6.  Use the upside-down W's instead of the M's from the Wooden Alpha set for a casual look. Or use the more formal M.  Either way, the Wooden Alpha dies add great texture to the mirror cardstock.

Attach the yellow-gold Christmas Fairy Jewels.

This design works in a rainbow of color combos...try your favorites!  It would be nice with mirrored floral diecuts and/or leaves too.

If your Mom's card is already done - rotate the M's right-side-up to say "WOW". It would be great for a grad, a new hire or to celebrate a recent promotion or achievement.   Even a new flower garden!

Thanks for visiting - see you on Friday...

Such a Good Friend
by Angie Cimbalo

Close

Hello and welcome! It's Angie here today with this plaid mini slimline card for a dear friend. I used a lot of different products today to create this card.

First of all I used the "Nested Globes" die set - 94532 to do some partial die-cutting. I ran card stock through my die cutting machine with the bottom cutting line of the globe hanging off the edge of the cutting plates so it wouldn't cut through the paper. Then I measured how long I wanted the oval panel to be to fit on my card front, and turned the die around the other way, again with the bottom flat side cutting line hanging off the edge of my cutting plates. This created my pretty oval shape for the focal point of my card and sentiment placement.

The leaves were actually made with the Pinpoint Leaf Plate 94381. I took white card stock and ran it through my die cutting machine with the pinpoint die, then added Distress Oxide Mermaid Lagoon ink direct from the pad on to the paper. That left little tiny white dots where all the pinpoints were. Next, I fussy cut out a few of the leaves and added them around the edges of my oval panel. I also cut a black mat in the same globe shape to help offset the white from the plaid a little better.

Here's a closer look at my card:

Close

The paper for the main background on the card came from the Madris Blue and Purple Plaid paper pad PP1014. I used the Layered Star Flower dies 94612, to cut my flower from peach, pink and orange Vintage Pastel Mirror Card Stock FP1002, and added a Pastel Jewels to the center of the flower and scattered on the front of the card.

The sentiment is from the Friends and Family stamp set CL5276, stamped in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink.

Here's one last look at my card:

I hope you like my card for today, I had a lot of fun creating it! Be sure to come back to the Memory Box blog often to see the wonderful creations from our amazing design team!

Spring Flower Boutique Birthday Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone!  I have more flower shaping today using the flower dies released in February.  Today I have a card that can be used for birthday or a mother's day card.  I use the Memory Box colored paper to make coloring the flowers and leaves easier.  Also the shaping of these flowers are pretty simple with how the dies cut into the paper.

E291E7BC-E371-45AB-92A9-A9D6571C8CA3_1_201_a

Riverbank Large Layered Bloom Flower:

Die cut the Riverbank Large Layered Blooms from a light orange/pink card from the Berry Red paper pad 1 time.  Ink blend from the center out, half way, with VersaFine Clair Charming Pink then Clair Purple Delight.  Ink blend from the tip of the petal with VersaFine Clair Cheerful.  In between each ink blending I added ink to the flower center.  Shape the flower with an extra large stylist, on a foam mat, by pulling from the tip of the petal to the center on the front side of the die cut.  Turn the flower over and lightly push in the center. Us the same stylist on the back side of the flower center and roll it around.  Adhere the flower together, offsetting the petals.  Add the center of the flower with double sided foam tape to keep the shape.  To darken the center, tap watercolor markers around randomly.  I used Marvy Markers in black, dark brown, and dark green brown. I was trying to recreate my favorite color of African Daisies.  I pulled up a picture online to use as a reference to get the color and shaping just right.

Periwinkle Flowers:

Die cut the Layered Periwinkle from a medium Vibrant Violet paper paper pack. (I chose a color a few shades lighter then VersaFine Clair Purple Delight.) Ink blend from the center out, half way, with VersaFine Clair Purple Delight.  Use a white Posca pen and outline the tip of each petal white.  Shape the flower with an medium sized stylist, on a foam mat, by pulling from the tip of the petal to the center on the front side of the die cut.  Turn the flower over and lightly push in the center. Adhere the 2 smaller die cuts together, offsetting the petals.  I also pulled up a picture of the periwinkle online to use as a reference to get the color and shaping just right.

Leaves:

Die cut the Exquisite Leaf Set out of a medium green paper from the Lush Green pad 3 times.  Ink blend the larger leaves with VersaFine Clair Cheerful from the tips to the center, then fold the leaf in half and color the center.  Then ink blend the stem with VersaFine Clair Shady Lane.  Ink blend the smaller leaves with the same technique using VersaFine Clair Green Oasis.

EFE33927-925F-4359-ABE6-9D49EC89D49F

Sentiment:

Die cut Happy Birthday Posh Scrip die bottom from the orange/pink Vintage Pastel Mirror paper pad and the top from the same paper as the Riverbank flower die from the Berry Red paper pad.  Ink blend the Berry Red paper with VersaFine Clair Purple Delight before die cutting.  Adhere together.

Assembly:

Use a white 5" x 7" card base and adhere a 4 3/4" x 6 3/4" light blue panel on top. Arrange the flowers on the left hand side focusing mainly in the lower corner.  Adhere some of the leaves with foam tape to give more dimension.  Add Treasure Chest Fairy Gemstones to the center of the Periwinkle flowers, yellow for the large and purple to the small. Adhere the sentiment in the upper right hand corner.

Blooms for Mom
by Trina Pham

EB3DA926-1F4A-4649-8E50-473CBB3CB411

Hello everyone.  Mother’s Day is celebrated at different times of the year all over the world.  With my Mother’s Day in two weeks, I have a Mother’s Day card I created for my mother-in-law to share today.  It features the Riverbank Large Layered Blooms and Exquisite Leaf Set dies from the recent Spring release.

Because I wanted these large blooms to all fit on the card without crowding or hanging off-the-edge, this card is A6 size.  The card base and a layering piece are 4.5”x6.25” cut from heavy-weight white paper.  Using the partial die cutting technique with a long and narrow extended cutting pad, ran the layering piece through the die cutting machine twice with the Slim Pinpoint Heart Plate resulting in this.

E6AE9664-8E6A-40DB-AFAC-D149F9BBD6CA

Down the middle was a mess, but it didn’t matter as most of it will be covered up anyway.  For some texture, splattered it with diluted black gouache paint, then set aside to dry.

The flower layers and leaves were die cut next from white cardstock.  The leaves and flower centers were colored with Copic Sketch markers.

greens - YG61, YG63, YG67
white centers - C00, C1, C3

Ink blending with distress inks (DI) was used to color the flower layers.  Shaded Lilac DI was applied to the middle circumference area of each layer using a blender brush, while Villainous Potion DI was applied to the centers with a finger brush before putting them together.

A694E82D-78B3-4F27-A6A9-229FFB2713EE

“Mom” was die cut from white glitter paper using the shadow dies of the Bennett Alphabet die set for a chunkier greeting.  Glued the letters onto a 1” Twilight Purple paper strip, then added the drop shadow with a C3 Copic Sketch marker.  Assembled the card, popping the bottom right flower up with foam adhesives for additional dimension.  Applied clear shimmer on the flowers for more sparkle to finish.

And that does it for my card.  Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful day.

Recycled Background Earth Day Greetings by Jean Okimoto

P1015244

Let's build a background of recycled scraps and create a card to celebrate Earth Day.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here using Lush Green Collection scraps from my stash to fill the Jumbled Line Collage.  It made just a teeny tiny dent in my big stack of scraps - but I feel so resourceful and earth-friendly.

P1015198

Attach a strip of doublestick tape to printer paper.  Cut assorted 3/4" strips of the Lush Green Collection 6x6's.  Attach them to the paper - we're using paper so it won't be too bulky.

Cut white cardstock with the largest Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.  Cut the rectangle with Jumbled Line Collage.  Lay the collage over the strips before adding any adhesive.  Trim the edges of the paper to fit behind the collage, then attach it behind the collage.  Attach the rectangle to a slimline card (3-5/8" x 8-1/2").

P1015282

Cut different shades of yellow 6x6's from the Sunny Orange Collection with the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral and Layered Fresh Flowers dies.  Assemble the flowers -  mix and match the blossoms and the centers. Use a center from the Layered Fresh Flowers set for the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral.

Cut the solid leaves - from the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral set - from a sheet Lush Green sheet.  Press a scrap of the same green onto a VersaMark inkpad.  Heat-emboss the inked area with detail clear powder.  Cut the detailed leaves from the embossed cardstock.  They'll be slightly darker and glossy to contrast with the solid background leaves.

Stamp the greeting from the Signature Greetings Clear Stamps and Dies Set on a yellow 6x6 with Onyx Black VersaFine.  Quickly heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.  Trim one end with the second-smallest Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die - then just cut the other end with a paper trimmer.

P1015209

Assemble the card - use foamdots for the greeting.  Add yellow Autumn Fairy Crystals.  Cut a slimline-sized piece of cardstock to protect the jewels and card front for mailing.

The coordinated colors of the Memory Box 6x6 Collections save time and simplify cardmaking with a 108 choices.  They match our 6x6 prints and plaids, glitter, foil and mirror cardstock too.

P1015264

Thanks for visiting - have a great weekend!

Woodgrain Candy Totes by Jean Okimoto

P1014999

Got chocolate??  Create sturdy Woodgrain Paper Pack candy totes for Easter celebrations with Gentle Bunny and mixed blossoms from Memory Box and Poppystamps.   Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a project that took on a life of its own once I started diecutting the flowers from Memory Box 6x6 Color Collections.  No special treat  tote dies required for these!

P1015028

Score Kraft Woodgrain Paper (that's actually cardstock) lengthwise at 4-¼".  Score it again at 4" and 4-½" and fold it on the 4-¼" scoreline.  Attach the 3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die to the folded cardstock - place the bottom short edge about 1/16" below the fold and cut the folded rectangle.  Repeat twice.

Cut the folded rectangles with the 2" x ¾" Rectangle Basics die to create a handle - save one little rectangle offcut for each tote.  Round the corners of the folded rectangle and the little rectangle.  Crease the bottom of the tote to form a gusset for the candy.

Cut Gentle Bunny from white cardstock.  Attach a 5mm pompom instead of the tail from the bunny set.

Cut Layered Star Flowers from 3 shades of pink in the Berry Red Collection.  Cut the flowers again from 3 shades each of the yellow and orange Sunny Orange sheet.  Cut 2 sets of the leaves from the Layered Star Flower set from a light green Lush Green Collection sheet.  Cut the longer stem into 2 sections.

Cut the Poppystamps Flower Field Corner from dark orange and yellow sheets in the Sunny Orange set.  Cut it again from a pink sheet in the Berry Red set.  It'll form the pink, orange and pale yellow base layer of the flowers.

P1014991 2

Attach the front half of the folded tab to the tote for spacing. Attach the Flower Field Corners - leave some areas un-glued to add the leaves.  Add the leaves and a colorful mix of big and little blossoms.

Attach Gentle Bunny.  Tape the chocolate inside the tote - Ghiradelli squares are a perfect fit.  Close the tote and adhere the back half of the tab.  Optional - you can also add a sparkly Fairy Crystal, Dewdrop or Gemstone to the tab to dress it up a bit - more handbag, less tote.

Mother's Day will be here soon...replace Gentle Bunny with more flowers or a heart if you're hosting Mother's Day Brunch.  The design also works for bridal showers or wedding favors.  Or anytime you want to share a bit of chocolate!  The Rectangle Basics set includes 16 sizes - there's a rectangle for any treat!

Thanks for visiting...Happy Easter if you're celebrating this weekend!

Spring Flower Scene Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone.  I'm missing the pretty cherry blossoms from my front window view.  So I recreated it in a card.  Just add any sentiment in the inside and you got a beautiful card anyone would like to receive.

Wood Siding:

Cut a piece of the Cream Woodgrain paper to 5" x 7" with the grain running long way.  Ink blend with Distress Brushed Corduroy ink all over.  Cut into 5" x 1/2" long strings.  Color the edges of each strip with Distress Ground Espresso.

Cherry Blossoms:

Die cut the smallest flowers from the Paisley Bloom Leaf Arch from white card stock.  Color with Distress Oxide Kitsch Flamingo and Picked Raspberry.  Concentrating the color to the center of the flower.  Shape the flowers.  Turn the flowers upside down on a foam mat.  Take a stylist the same width as the petals and push the stylist down to the center of the flower.  Repeat on each petal until it forms a cup shape.  Turn the flowers right side up and with a small stylist push in the center of the flower, still on the foam mat, creating a flower shape.

Window and Branch:

Die cut the Poppy Stamp Grand Madison Window our of heavy weight white paper twice. Glue the 2 die cuts together. Cut a piece of the Black Glossy paper just smaller then the window Fram and adhere the window with double sided tape. Die cut the Woodland Branch from a brown paper from Earth Neutral pad 3 times.  Glue the 3 die cuts together.

C240D454-26EF-434A-BABB-8D151F745DD8

Foliage:

Die cut the Tall Frilly Leaf Stems, leaves from the Layered Star Flowers, and the Wild Grass Boarder from various shades of green from the Lush Green paper pad.  Add a darker shade of ink to the stems of the leafs and blades of grass with Distress Oxide Inks.  For the lighter green I used Crush Olive.  Mid-tone green I used Forest Moss. For the grass I used Rustic Wilderness.  Use the same shaping technique on the leaves as the cherry blossoms but when you turn them over to the front side just light press at the base of the leave.  Die cut the 2 small flowers from the Layered Impatiens die set out of bright pink from the Berry Red pad.  Add a yellow center with a Posca paint pen.  Shape the flowers the same way as the cherry blossoms.

249EF13A-7391-43F9-9710-EBCB18DF8450

Assembly:

Adhere the wood strips to the front of a 5" x 7" card from top to bottom.  Adhere the window to the upper center of the card.  Glue the tree branch over the top of the window frame.  Adhere the flowers around the branch.  Arrange the grass and foliage to the bottom of the card.

Celebrate spring with a Paisley Bloom Leaf Arch window card and a soft felt Gentle Bunny. Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a favorite bunny and the new Paisley Bloom Leaf Arch set. Guessing that your Easter cards are already signed, sealed and sent - here's a spring greeting just to say hello or let someone know you're thinking about them.

MemoryBoxPaisleyBloomLeafArch, MemoryBoxGentleBunny, MemoryBoxPastelJewels, MemoryBoxCircleBasics,MemoryBoxBigAndLittleSpringClearStamps, MemoryBoxBerryRed6x6Collection, MemoryBoxLushGreen6x6Collection, WindowCards, BunnyCards, WreathCards, HandmadeCards, SpringCards, FlowerDiecuts, EasterDiecuts, DiecutCards, Papercrafting, ImpressCardAndCrafts

Cut a window in a side-folded white A2 card with the 2-¾" Circle Basics die.

Cut the Paisley Bloom arches from a light green 6x6 in the Lush Green Collection.  Attach it to the window to create a wreath. There will be gap near the bottom right section.  Gentle Bunny will cover it!

Cut the flowers - from the Paisley Bloom Arch Set - from 3 sheets in the Berry Red Collection.  Save the extra blossoms for another project.  Attach the flowers to the wreath.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to cream felt and cut Gentle Bunny. Cut another tail pouf and stack them for dimension.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and prevents adhesives from saturating the fabric.  Cut another bunny from white cardstock.  Attach the felt bunny to the front of the card - then attach the white cardstock bunny from inside the card for dimension and support.

Add pink and green Pastel Fairy Jewels.

Stamp the greeting - from the Big and Little Spring Clear Stamps Set - on white cardstock with Tulip Red VersaFine Clair.  Dry the ink and cut the greeting with the 1" Circle Basics die.  Cut another circle from a pink 6x6 and attach it for dimension and contrast.

"Love You" featuring Daisy Blossom Stem Dies
by Angie Cimbalo

1

Hello and welcome, it's Angie here today with this beautiful floral and woodgrain mini slimline card made with the newly released "Daisy Blossom Stem" die and the "Love You Posh Script" die.

Here's a closer look at my card:

2

Here's how I made this card:

1) Cut a piece of Memory Box "White Woodgrain" card stock to 3" by 6" and applied Distress inks direct to paper. I started with "Tea Dye" then added "Brushed Corduroy" and finished with "Rusty Hinge" making the outside edges the darkest.

2) I die cut both dies from the "Daisy Blossom Stem" die set 3 times from white card stock.

3) Next I colored them with alcohol markers and colored pencils to give them depth and a realistic look.

4) I cut the colored diecuts into pieces of stems and flower and leaves and arranged them on my woodgrain panel.

5) Once I was happy with the arrangement I started gluing them down with liquid glue and popping some up on foam tape.

6) I cut the "Love You Posh Script" word die outline twice from white card stock and glued them together.

7) I cut the thinner word die in the set three times, two from white card stock and once from thick watercolor paper.

8) I colored one of the white thin word dies with the same green markers and colored pencils that I used on the leaf dies then stacked all 3 together then added them to the outline with glue.

9) I cut a card base 6.25" by 6.5" and scored it on the 6.5" side at 3.25 so my card base is slightly larger than my woodgrain panel.

10) I added the woodgrain panel to the card base with double sided adhesive foam and then added some tiny yellow Memory Box jewels to finish the card.

Here's one last look:

3

I hope you like my card for today. I had a lot of fun creating it and really love how it turned out. Memory Box dies are so versatile and beautiful - I really enjoy working with them to create one of a kind cards.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

See you next time,

Vibrant Violet Blossoms by Jean Okimoto

P1014582 3

Is spring your favorite cardmaking season too?   I love how layered blossoms and foliage create a slimline card for any occasion.  The new Fuddled Leaf Branches Contour Layers from Birch Press Design balances the bold flowers and Bright Jewel gemstones and Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pad blossoms add sparkly violet accents.

Hi everyone, Jean Okimoto here with a very layered design from our spring releases.  The Memory Box 6x6 color collections make it easy to select, combine and layer diecuts in coordinating colors.  9 assortments - totaling 108 colors - create a lot of flowers and leafy backgrounds.

Cut white cardstock with the 7-¼" x 2-¼" Wrapped Stitched Slim Rectangles die.

Cut Ruffled Blooms from different shades of the Vibrant Violet 6x6 Collection.  Cut the smallest flower from the violet Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pad 6x6 too.  Cut glittered Star Flowers too.

Cut the background of the Birch Press Design Fuddled Leaf Branches Contour Layers from a medium-green 6x6 in the Fresh Green 6x6.  Cut the detailed top layers from a lighter green sheet.  Leave the top layers in the die and attach ScorTape or Couture Creations doublestick tape behind the diecut pieces.  Run it through the machine again to cut self-adhesive layering pieces.

Attach the top layers to the background leaves - they're lightly scored to indicate where the top layers should be placed.  Here's a link to view the newest products from Birch Press Design.

Cut the 2 leafy branches from the Layered Star Flowers set from the darker green 6x6.

P1014656

Attach the diecuts to a white slimline card (3-½" x 8-½").  Add the violet Bright Jewels gemstones.

Slimline card dimensions are great for collage-y floral and garden greetings.  They provide a lot of white space to balance the brightness of the flowers.  Slimline cards are also a nice surprise for a recipient who thought it was just another piece of mail.

Hope you'll have a chance to make a few spring cards this week.  Diecut a bunch of flowers, leaves and branches - then build paper bouquets for cards, layouts or mixed media.  You can never have too many flowers!

Thanks for visiting our blog...see you again on Friday!
