Stenciled Leafy Rows and the Wild Rose Stem by Jean Okimoto

Pair the Wild Rose Stem blossoms with the Leafy Rows Art Stencil for a different look.  It’s easy – and another way to get more from the great designs in our Spring 2020 release.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here after extended blog-posting problems - let's pretend it's still Thursday and get started...

P1150267

Mask the top row – and the second row of leaves on the right.  Mask the bottom leaves too.  The leaves on both sides will be trimmed later -  they don’t need masking.

Stencil the leaves on light green cardstock with mowed lawn and bundled sage Distress Oxide.  Dry the inks and trim the cardstock to 3” x 4-¼”.  Attach strips of dark green cardstock for the stems.  No matching dark green cardstock?  Just sponge more ink onto a scrap of light green cardstock and cut it into strips.

Stamp the flower tops from the Wild Stem Rose Clear Stamps and Dies Set on the smoother side of Coral Creme cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine Clair.  Quickly emboss it with detail clear powder.  Cut it with the coordinating die and trim any bits of the stem below the flowers.  Shade it with worn lipstick Distress Oxide and Cheerful VersaFine Clair.

Prep black cardstock with the embossing powder tool.  Stamp the greeting – also from the stamp set – with VersaMark and emboss it with detail white powder.

Attach everything to an A-6 (4-1/2” x 6-1/4”)  Coral Crème card – use foam tape for the greeting.  Add Sour Apple Sparkle Glitter Glue to the flower centers.

P1150239

Here’s an easy way to organize coordinating dies – attach them to curtain rings.  Tape the product info from the package onto a cardstock tab and attach it to the ring for quick reference.  Everything stays together and they’re easy to identify too - some of the shapes can be hard to identify if they go astray!

Watercolor Flowers on Easter/Spring Cards
by Anne Thompson

Have you watched Dave's video yet on watercolor techniques?  You can view it here.  I've spent some time this past week playing with my watercolors (Kuratake Japanese watercolors, set of 36) and the new stamp sets to create some Easter and spring cards.

This first card uses the WILD ROSE STEM clear stamp and die set CL5258-D reimagined in yellows, oranges, and reds.  It's the card I shared in the introduction to this month's Memory Box Challenge:  #60 Spring Fling (Spring Themed Cards).
IMG_2342-ink

I stamped the image with VersaMark on the new Open Studio Watercolor Paper WP101 and heat embossed it with gold embossing powder.  Once it was painted and dried, I used the coordinating die to cut it out.  I adhered it with Scor-Tape to an orange striped paper from the COTTAGE STRIPES AND DOTS PP1004 pad on a white notecard.  (I find that Scor-Tape works the best to secure painted watercolor paper to another surface in order to get a nice flat adherence.)  The sentiment "thinking of you at Easter" is from the Poppystamps set CL491 SPRINGTIME FUN stamped on the striped paper with VersaFine Onyx Black ink.

This next card is stamped and embossed, painted and die cut in the same way using the single blossom and two leaves from that same stamp set.  The paper is also from the Cottage Stripes and Dots paper pad.  The sentiment is another from the Poppystamps Springtime Fun set of clear stamps.

IMG_2342-ink

For this third card I chose the large SUNFLOWER WREATH CL5253.  It is a very large image and I positioned it on the edge of the watercolor paper cutting off some of the blossoms on the left.  I used three different yellows and an orange for the petals and three browns and a purple for the seedy centers.  Once it was painted and dried I fussy cut around the image and used Scor-Tape to adhere it to the papered notecard.  The background paper is from the SPRINGTIME BOUQUET PP1006 pad.  The sentiment "a happy HELLO" is from the Poppystamps Springtime Fun set.

IMG_2342-ink

Two more:  the single sunflower stamped multiple times, painted and spattered; the two leaves stamped multiple times, painted and spattered; "Happy Spring" from the Open Studio BIG AND LITTLE SPRING CL5254 clear stamp set

IMG_2348-ink

My next adventure is to try other sets of watercolors I have as well as watercolor crayons and watercolor pencils.  I seem to have more time to play in my craft room these days.  Hope you are all well and finding more crafting time, too.  Someone sent me a note the other day stating that instead of saying that she is sheltering in place she is now an artist in residence.  I think I will adopt that title as well!  And maybe you should too!!!

Happy Crafting!

Using Old Favorites In New Ways by Vicki Finger

Hello everyone!  Vicki here with you today.  I have a new project using some of my "old" favorites from Memory Box and a stamp set from Poppy Stamps as well.  I love being able to use supplies in my "collection" to pull a completely different style of card together.

IMG_2294

You might remember this card from last fall that I created using the Grateful Autumn Stamp Set from Memory Box.  I used Metallic Watercolors on Stonehenge Black Watercolor Paper from Legion (who also makes Yupo Paper).

Just because it has Autumn in the name doesn't mean it can't be used for any of the other seasons that have leaves on the trees.  Lots of folks north of Texas live in states where it is still snowing this week and they don't even have the first little buds of leaves out on their trees.  Here in North Texas, Our Redbuds are just budding out this week and in a week or so, we'll have lots of small green leaves popping out everywhere.  The Bradford Pears have also begun blooming.  In Texas, we have Live Oak Trees, and they stay green year-round.  There are many such trees in Texas and I remember being fascinated by them when we first moved to Texas in the late 1990's.  Being a midwestern girl, the only kind of evergreen trees I had ever seen were the Cedar and Evergreen varieties that remind you of Christmas Trees.  There is a huge, ancient, Live Oak Tree on the grounds of the Alamo.  Its limbs have grown so heavy that many are now supported by giant cables and many are literally laying on the ground, but still growing.

Today I wanted to use this same stamp set to create a pretty Wet-On-Wet Watercolor Background with a lot of visual interest.   Using the large image from the set, I heat embossed it onto a 5 x 7 panel of Watercolor Paper.  Next, I wet the entire panel using a #10 Escoda Versatil Paint Brush. These brushes are hand made in Barcelona Spain and have a Triple Crimp Ferrule and they don't shed!

Next, I added Diopside Genuine in a pretty concentrated mix of paint and water.  I sort of dabbed at the area of the leaves but didn't stay within the lines.  I let that dry and then repeated the process with Ultramarine Turquoise, making sure to extend the paint and water to the entire panel, letting it move freely as I turned the paper.  When it was not quite dry, I went in with a watery layer of Iridescent Gold Watercolor on the top and turning the paper, again let it move around the entire panel of watercolor paper.  As this dries, the gold settles into the texture of the paper making it very visible.

I die cut the panel with a Rectangle Basics Die and then used the leftover piece to heat emboss my sentiment onto. The sentiment is from Poppy Stamps Butterfly Greetings Stamp Set and I love this font!  Using a smaller Rectangle Basics Die I die cut the sentiment out and then used the next size up to cut a mat from Gold Foiled Cardstock. I popped the sentiment up on some foam tape.  I also had an already cut piece of cardstock sitting there that I had previously cut for another project and then didn't use, so it was perfect for this.

I die cut the Drifting Side Butterfly from the center of that panel, which is a very economical way to use your gold cardstock and although I don't often do it that way, I should!  I don't sit and plan out a card from beginning to end with what I'm going to do.  I'm definitely a "fly by the seat of your pants" cardmaker.  I get an idea of what stamp set I want to use and what technique, but that's as far as the planning goes until I actually sit down to put the card together.  So usually, I'm too far into the process when I think about using the gold foiled cardstock that way.

I love all the shimmer and shine on this card and that perfect final touch was the sequins and gems I added.  These particular sequins are iridescent teal and they matched so well.  I've had them for years and I don't know where they came from.  I will be really sad when I run out as they are so pretty.  Then as I often do, I added a little gem in the center of the sequin which really makes everything sparkle and shine.

I did play around with adding colored cardstock or shimmer cardstock for the butterfly's body behind the gold frame, but I didn't care for any of the colors I tried over just using the gold outline, which allowed the watercolor to be seen through the wings.

I hope you enjoyed seeing my project today and that you might be inspired to see what you can do with a stamp set you may already have.  I have an extended post over on my blog today as I go into some detail about my watercolor palettes that I've made recently.  I'll hope you'll pop over there if your interested in that sort of thing.

Attach Rose Bouquet Wide Washi Tape to the textured side of pale yellow cardstock.  The fine lines add a bit of contrast to the pearly, translucent washi tape.  It's 4.5" x 11 gorgeous yards!  Cut it with the medium-sized Stylish Rectangle Trio.  Attach the delicate frame and rectangle to a Squash Notecard.  It's a soft, warm yellow that would brighten any winter day.

Stamp the greeting - from the Birch Press Design You Are Awesome Clear Stamps Set - on green cardstock with Shady Lane VersaFine Clair.  Attach the greeting strip with foam dots.

Add ¼" punched circles of the green Twinkling Jewel Glitter sheet.  Just a trio of little dots - but I love how they make such a difference!

Friendship
by Michelle Bala

13

Hello there! Michelle here. I created this card using Pinpoint Leaf Plate Die, and Friendship Floral Heart Clear Stamp Set.                                                         I embossed kraft cardstock with the metal plate than used some PrismaColor Pencils to shade in the leaves. I used shades PC934, 932, 938, 105, 992, 935, 912, 913.

14

I splattered some white and gold paint.  I used similar Copic colors to ink up some white cardstock in shades BG05, BG09; V12, V17; YG05, YG17.              I embossed the sentiments with gold embossing powder onto the Copic colored cardstock strips.

15

I trimmed the panel slightly smaller than 41/4 inches to allow a strip of black cardstock to show on the bottom and the white card base to show on top. Adhere the sentiments and scatter some sequins.

Thanks for taking a peek!

Faux Cover Die
by Trina Pham

E837BC9E-7B61-4975-A132-62D59544021F

Hello there!  I am sharing a quick and easy card today inspired by cover dies.  I wanted to create the look of a cover die using regular dies.  I chose the Verdant Leaf die for my card, but many of the Memory Box dies (or even dies in your stash) would work beautifully.

Started off by die cutting a whole bunch of the leaf from Bristol paper and adhering them to a vellum panel.  A frame was then die cut with rectangle dies from Bristol paper and affixed on top, hence, completing the faux cover die.

E13B38CA-34A2-44E0-9A26-5E23AD368B91

To complete the card, the Hello Banner Script was die cut from Bristol paper and ombré coloured with Chipped Sapphire and Stormy Sky distress oxide inks using blender brushes.  For some sparkle (love my sparkle), it was inked with VersaMark and heat embossed with clear glitter embossing powder.  To make it stand out even more, hello was die cut from black cardstock and offset slightly.  Finished by white heat embossing the sentiment from Friendship Floral Heart stamp set on a black strip.

Well, that does it for today. So glad you dropped by.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Scribble Rose Trio and Embossed Double Stitch Happy Hearts by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxDoubleStitchHappyHeartCutOut, MemoryBoxScribbleRoseTrio, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, MemoryBoxBigAndLittleWordsClearStamps, EmbossingWithDies, DiecutRoses, JeanOkimoto, ImpressCardsAndCrafts, ImagineCrafts

Emboss the entire Double Stitch Happy Heart Cut Out set and create a soft, poufy background for the Scribble Rose Trio. Glitter the roses and add a greeting from the Big and Little Words Clear Stamp Set - that's it!

Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a design that can be a Valentine...or not.  We love the latest collection for more than just Valentine projects.  The dies, stamps and embossing folder are so versatile you'll reach for them throughout the year for weddings, birthdays, thank-yous and cards of encouragement.

MemoryBoxDoubleStitchHappyHeartCutOut, MemoryBoxScribbleRoseTrio, MemoryBoxRectangleBasics, MemoryBoxBigAndLittleWordsClearStamps, EmbossingWithDies, DiecutRoses, JeanOkimoto, ImpressCardsAndCrafts, ImagineCrafts

Cut Coral Creme cardstock  (textured-side-up) with the 4" x 5-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Trim the corners with a corner-rounding punch.  Tape the four Double Stitch Happy Heart Cut Out dies to the rectangle.  Attach the tape near the left edge of the rectangle where it'll be covered by the flowers later - removing the tape might damage the cardstock.  Pressure-emboss the hearts.

Attach ScorTape or Couture Creations tape to the top of Arroyo cardstock and diecut the solid blossoms from the Scribble Rose Trio.  Cut detailed Scribble Rose Trio from Flintstone cardstock.  Attach the detailed diecut to the tape-covered solid blossoms.  Brush iridescent glitter over the remaining exposed adhesive to create a trio of sparkly roses.

Stamp the frame - from the Big and Little Words set - on the smoother side of Coral Creme cardstock with Rocket Red Gold Brilliance.  Stamp the greeting in the frame.  Dry the ink, then trim the cardstock and round the corners.

Score, cut and fold a natural white A6 card.  Attach the diecuts to the card - attach the greeting with foam tape.  Add three peach-colored gem stickers.

Hope you like the embossed look too!  It adds quiet details and texture to any background.

Thanks for visiting!

Cherish- Adore
by Michelle Bala

4

Hello again! Michelle here,  sharing a slimline card I created using Double Stitch Loving Heart Cut Out craft die, Leafy Heart craft die, Gloriosa Butterfly Duo Outlines craft die and Big and Little Valentine's clear stamp set.

5

The slimline card measures 3 1/2 by 8 1/2. I trimmed the top panel and used the Double Stitch Loving Heart dies and cut three windows. I splattered some gold paint over the panel. After I die cut the Leafy Heart I used the same gold paint and brushed the leaves.  I adhered the die cut Leafy Heart to the middle heart window. Adhere the top panel to the aqua card base using foam tape.

6

I colored the die cut butterflies with Copic Marker shades BG13 and BG18; W5 and W7. Adhere the butterflies to the card. I added some stickles clear glitter glue to the butterflies and Leafy Heart. I inked up some cardstock with the same teal markers and embossed the sentiments with gold embossing powder. For a finishing touch I scattered some sequins.

Thank you for stopping by!

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have!
