Summers come and go so quickly in Seattle - here's another design featuring our Island Vacation release.  A Grand Tulip Shell and fish create a relaxing tropical scene on a slimline design. The shimmery texture and dimension of the new Ocean Fish 3D Embossing Folder and Cutting Dies Set are great for any occasion.   Hi, Jean Okimoto here with breezy ocean colors to refresh a warm summer day.

Cut 3 fish from the new Ocean Fish 3D Embossing Folder and Cutting Dies set from pale blue, aqua and teal sheets from the Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad.  Place them in the folder and emboss them using the plate(s) required for your machine.  Details - including the tiny dotted fishscales and striped fins and tails - add shimmery dimension to the diecuts.

Cut the solid Grand Tulip Shell from smooth white cardstock.  Place it in the detailed Grand Tulip Shell die and sponge or brush it with Distress Oxides.  Cut a partial paper stencil of the narrow, pointy tip and use it to stencil twisted citron.  Colors used here are shaded lilac, tumbled glass, salvaged patina and twisted citron.  Dry the inks.

Cut the delicate shell outline from the white Polished Foil Pad sheet.  Attach it to the shell background.

Cut 2 of the fine-striped rope from the End of My Rope set.

Attach the diecuts to a white slimline card (3-½" x 8-½").  Overlap the ends of the rope at the center and cover them with the shell.  Use foam tape for the shell and the little guy.

Attach the lightest Winter Fantasy Fairy Gemstones. Cut a slimline-sized layer of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

The Ocean Fish 3D Embossing Folder and Cutting Dies Set is #EF1031.

Hope you're enjoying the vacation-themed designs we're creating for you.  Summer flies by so quickly - especially here!

Thanks for visiting...see you in July!

Here's an afternoon post for a sunny summer weekend.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here  - there was an open day in our posting schedule so it's just me (again) with another great 3D Embossing Folder and Die Set from our latest release.

The new Tropical Leaves 3D Embossing Folder and Cutting Dies set is perfect for tropical summer designs.  Pair it with bright blossoms - like Layered Fresh Flowers - or some of the friendly jungle animals from Poppystamps.  (That's a future card.)

Cut the leaves from a medium green 6x6 in the Lush Green Collection.  Place the leaves into the embossing folder and run it through the machine. Use a small brayer - or an inkpod (it looks like a freeze-dried marshmallow) to highlight the design with Pearlescent Thyme Brilliance ink.

Cut Layered Fresh Flowers from two shades of the Berry Red Collection sheets.

Cut Hello Daily Script from two shades of the Lush Green set.  Cut an extra layer of the background from cardboard for extra dimension.

Cut textured green cardstock with the 6-½" x 1-½" Wrapped Stitched Slim Rectangles die.

Attach the diecuts to a light yellow-green slimline card (3-½" x 8-½").  Add yellow Treasure Chest Fairy Gemstones.  Cut a slimline- sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

The Tropical Leaves 3D Embossing Folder and Die Set is #EF1030.  We'll add the new item link as soon as it's available.

Thanks for visiting...keep cool and have a great weekend!

Stenciled Butterfly Coterie Collage by Jean Okimoto

P1017422

The Butterfly Coterie Collage is great for quick cards - just layer it over an ink-blended background and add a greeting.  Or - if you have more time - here's another way to use this versatile die.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a colorful summer design.

P1017465
Blend salvaged patina, twisted citron and shaded lilac Distress Oxides on the smoother side of Open Studio Watercolor Paper.  Add a light spritz of water and let it airdry for a few minutes.  Heat-set it.  Pressure-emboss it with Butterfly Coterie Collage using a rubber embossing mat and the plate(s) required for your machine.

Stencil it with VersaMark and the Butterfly Coterie Stencil using a clean, well-inked inkpad - don't stencil the largest butterfly.  Heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.

Cut it with the medium-sized Stylish Rectangle Trio die (it's a close fit) - save the 4 larger narrow triangle offcuts.

P1017435

Place the delicate frame on a white A2 card.  Attach the inner offcut - overlapping the edges of the frame wherever they meet.  Attach the skinny triangle offcuts - layer them over the frame to help attach the frame and add a bit of color along the edges.

Cut the smaller Ava Butterfly from the aqua sheet in the Polished Foil Pad.  Attach it with foam tape.  Add the purple-ish Treasure Chest Fairy Gemstones.  Cut an A2-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

A design alternative...diecut the small Ava Butterfly from a 6x6 sheet in our color collection - then heat-emboss the butterflies with Imagine's Iridescent Embossing Powder.

Thanks for visiting our blog - see you again on Friday!

Hugs
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_1686

Hello everyone!  Today I have a fun background technique that I saw on Jennifer McGuire's YouTube channel.  It's not a quick technique, but I think the end result is very nice and worth the time.

I started by die cutting the flowers and leaves many times from colored cardstock.  I used a light and dark shade of the blue and green.  I used navy blue cardstock for my background.

IMG_1683

Next, comes the fun part!  I glued the large flowers onto the navy cardstock panel first, then filled in the background with leaves and smaller flowers.  Once I was happy with the background I placed it flower side down onto the Pinpoint Leaf Cover Plate Die and ran it through my die cut machine.  This presses the flowers and leaf die cuts into the paper and leaves Pinpoint Leaf image on the card.

IMG_1685

I glued the card front to a white card base using foam tape.

Next, I die cut the word hugs from black cardstock and the shadow from white cardstock.   I die cut the shadow 3 times from white cardstock and glued them together to give the word more dimension.

The butterflies were die cut from vellum, and the sentiment was white heat embossed on a strip of black cardstock.

To finish the card I added some fairy crystals to the flower centers.

That's it for today!  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Torn Paper Backgrounds with Layered Star Flowers
by Anne Thompson

I've been studying Chinese collage works recently which use elements of torn paper to create backgrounds and images.  For the three cards I made for this post, I used torn paper to create backgrounds for the Layered Star Flowers all-occasion cards.

IMG_3643-ink

Card One

IMG_3640-ink

materials used

  • white notecard
  • scraps of light blue cardstock
  • medium green cardstock from LUSH GREEN COLLECTION SP1003
  • green plaid paper from MADRAS PLAID CORAL AND GREEN PP1013
  • VersaFine Clair Shady Lane ink to edge the torn papers
  • white pearl paper from VINTAGE PASTEL MIRROR PAD FP1002
  • LAYERED STAR FLOWERS 94612
  • AUTUMN FAIRY CRYSTALS CRY101
  • "For You" from SIGNATURE GREETINGS CL5272

IMG_3630-ink

to make this card

  • orient a white notecard so the fold is at the top
  • add a small strip of light blue cardstock at the top of the notecard...I let all of my paper strips go over the edges and trimmed the extra off once all of the strips were in place.
  • tear two strips of the medium green cardstock and three strips of a green plaid paper; use the Shady Lane VersaFine Clair ink to add color to the torn white edges
  • place the strips from top to bottom on the notecard, plaid-green-plaid-green-plaid
  • die cut three sets of the Layered Star Flowers blossoms from the white pearl paper and the leaves from the medium green cardstock; assemble them; add Fairy Crystals to the flower centers; add them to the card front
  • stamp "For You" on a scrap of light blue cardstock; tear around the lettering and ink the edges; add to the card

Card Two

IMG_3638-ink

materials used

  • white notecard, top-fold
  • papers from GARDEN FOLLY PP1005
  • LAYERED STAR FLOWERS 94612
  • AUTUMN FAIRY CRYSTALS CRY101

IMG_3638-ink

to make this card

  • top-fold white notecard
  • tear strips of papers from the GARDEN FOLLY PP1005 paper pad--I used the red one with the gold Xs, the gold honeycomb paper, the penmanship paper, the two shades of red leaves--add to the notecard from the top to the bottom--red-gold-red-gold-red-lined
  • cut two of the Layered Star Flowers from the Xed paper and the honeycomb paper; add Autumn Fairy Crystals CRY101 to the flower centers and to the centers of the Xs; add the flowers to the notecard

Card Three

IMG_3639-ink

materials used

  • white notecard, side-fold
  • light green cardstock from LUSH GREEN COLLECTION SP1003
  • plaid paper from SPRING PLAID SLIM PP101SS
  • flowered paper scrap from GARDEN FOLLY PP1005
  • LAYERED STAR FLOWERS 94612
  • WINTER FANTASY FAIRY GEMSTONES GEM102
  • PASTEL FAIRY JEWELS JWL002

IMG_3633-ink

to make this card

  • tear paper strips and add to the card front, top to bottom--solid, plaid, solid, flowers, solid, plaid, solid
  • die cut five flowers and three sets of stems; assemble and add to the card front
  • add the pale green Fairy Gemstones to the flower centers and the gold Fairy Jewels to the centers of the larger printed paper flowers

Tearing your paper scraps into strips is another way to use the bits that you have left from previous projects to add extra texture to a card.  Those scraps are often just the thing, too, for stamping a sentiment or for even die cutting a small image.  Try a torn paper background on one of your cards.

Happy Crafting!

Happy Easter
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_1483

Hello everyone!  Today I have a quick and easy Easter card for you!

I began by ink blending a white cardstock panel with Distress Oxide Inks.  The colors I used were Kitsch Flamingo, Picked Raspberry and Hickory Smoke.  I spattered the background with plain water and white ink.

Next, I die cut the Bunny Egg Collage in the middle of a white cardstock panel, and glued the ink blended background behind the opening in the die cut.  I adhered this to a gray cardstock mat and used foam tape to adhere it to a white card base.

IMG_1485

I white heat embossed the words "Happy Easter" on a strip of gray cardstock and used foam tape to adhere it to my card.

IMG_1484

To finish my card, I adhered some fairy gemstones and that's it!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Periwinkle Miss You Cards
by Anne Thompson

I love the new Layered Periwinkle die 94614 in the 2022 February/Spring Collection from Memory Box.  Once I started making these adorable flowers I just kept making more and more using a variety of Memory Box plaid and floral papers.  I finished four cards and have more flowers still for future projects.

IMG_3550-ink

materials for each card

IMG_3537-ink
IMG_3537-ink
IMG_3537-ink
IMG_3537-ink

to make these cards

  • trim a plaid or patterned paper 5 1/4 X 4 and add to the front of a white notecard
  • trim White Woodgrain paper or white cardstock 4 1/4 X 3 and add to the center of the notecard
  • die cut and assemble a variety of blooms using the Layered Periwinkle die set and plaids/florals/printed papers; add a Fairy Drop/Gemstone/pearl to the center of each flower; make at least three for the front of each card and another for the inside
  • die cut multiples of the medium-sized leaf and the smaller one using the Exquisite Leaf Set and plaid or printed papers that coordinate with both the background paper and the periwinkles
  • add three of the leafy stems to the white mat on the card front letting some of the stems and leaves fall over the edge onto the background colored paper
  • use foam dots to pop on three periwinkle blooms
  • die cut the background from the Miss You Posh Script from one of the plaids or prints used on the front of the card; die cut the detailed Miss You from White Woodgrain or white cardstock and add it to the background (I found it worked well to use Scor-Tape on the back of the paper before die cutting, making it much easier to add the more intricate lettering); add the assembled greeting to the card front and then add more of the gems used in the flower centers as accents
  • on the inside of the card add one of the smaller leaf sprays and a single periwinkle

Pretty cards to send to someone you haven't seen in awhile!  This design would also work well for any occasion by just changing the sentiment.

Happy Crafting!

Magical Wreath Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone.  I have a wreath card with a magical faerie scene in the center using the new Paisley Bloom Leaf Arch die set and Friends and Family stamp set.

75D1191F-0A2D-47C8-8FF9-F92FB6567AA0_1_201_a

Background:

Trim a piece of Open Studio Watercolor paper to 4"x5 1/4".  Die cut a 3 3/4" diameter circle in the upper center of the paper with Open Studios Circle Basics die set.  Spray each side with water.  On the front spray with Distress Oxide Stain; Spun Sugar, Villainous Potion and mica Hocuspocus.  Randomly spray with inks leaving some light and dark areas.  If it gets too dark after drying spray with bleach water and pad off with a paper towel.  Heat Dry.

2714885B-1706-4902-B034-0ACA5D7BB395

Sentiment:

On the lower right hand corner of the background, tamp and heat emboss with a white with glitter embossing powder the "You are Something Magical" stamp from the Friends and Family stamp set.

97186BC1-2EF4-40F1-B5BA-8E54F67AE305

Wreath:

Die cut the wreath branches for the Paisley Bloom Leaf Arch die set out of a mid tone color from the Lush Green paper pack 2 times.  Die cut the branches from the Layered Star Flower die set from a lighter tone color from the Lush Green paper pack 3 times.  Form the leafs on the branches by turning them upside down on a foam pad and taking a ball stylist and drag the stylist from the edge of the leaf to the stem.  Turn the branches over and take a small stylist and light push at the base of the leave on the stem to make the leaves pop more.  Spray with a clear shimmer spray to give a magical feel to the leaves.  I make my own out of water and perfect pearls.

A8D21C8D-FBBD-4D20-87C3-FEE3AA6035FA

Flowers:

Die cut the flowers from the Layered Star Flower set 4 times from white card stock, medium weight. Add some Distress Oxide Stain Villainous Potion to the flowers with a water brush.  I sprayed a little of the stain on my glass mat and then some water added a little of the purple to the water and covered the full flower.  Then take straight stain and add it to the center letting it bleed outward.  Spray with the same shimmer spray as the leaves.  Let dry.  Form the flowers with reverse close tweezers positioned in down the center of the flower petal and pinch the petal up over the tweezers.  Repeat on all petals.  Take a small stylist and push down in the center of each flower on a foam pad.  I randomly glued layers together. I add the glue with the flowers on the foam pad to push down until the glue dries to keep their shape.  This will get glue on your foam pad, I have a small section where I use to glue flowers together and another for forming them.

10259994-38BA-4CEA-89FA-F16EDE168DB0

Faerie:

Die cut Poppy Stamps Thoughtful Faerie body from cream card stock, medium weight.  Then color with Distress Ink Brushed Corduroy.  Used a small tip dark brown water based ink pen to color in the hair.  Cut the body again but our of the dark purple paper from the new Rainbow Reflections paper pad.  Trim out just the dress and glue on the faerie.  Die cut the wing out of white from the Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad.  Glue over vellum and trim around the wing.  Glue the wing behind the faerie.

3029D6BB-79FD-4E89-9927-7872609721F3

Assembly:

Spray the upper center of the white A2 card with Distress Oxide Stain Spun Sugar, masking the edges.  Add foam tape to the background panel and adhere the the card base.  Glue the faerie in the lower portion of the cut out.  Add a golden Fairy Gemstone  from the Treasure Chest pack to the hand of the faerie.  Take a gold gel pen and add dots around the gem then blend with a water brush.  Let dry.  Add some glimmer with a glitter brush pen around the cut out.  Around the cut out, adhere 3 wreath branches, tucking in the end of one under the beginning of the next.  Glue 2 large and 2 small flowers to the bottom left of the wreath and 2 small and 1 large flower to the upper right.  Trim some of the branches from the Layered Star Flowers and adhere around the wreath. Tucking them in and around the flowers as well.  Add a golden color from the Pastel Fairy Jewel pack to the center of each flower.

Miss You with Exquisite Leaf Frame
by Angie Cimbalo

Feb 20th MB leafy cover

Hello and welcome! It's Angie here today with these newly released "Exquisite Leaf Frame" and "Miss You Posh Script" dies.  The new 2022 Spring Release is full of gorgeous dies, papers, and stamps!

Here's a closer look at my card for today:

Feb 20th MB close

For the background you can see that I used a 3D embossing folder on the watercolor card stock. I love using thick watercolor card stock with 3D embossing folders because you get such a deep and lovely impression. The word die also has a shadow die with it, but I decided not to use it as I wanted a thin black sentiment in the center and didn't want to draw any attention away from the lovely frame die.

Here's another look:

Feb 20th 2

The frame die was cut twice, once from alcohol inked Yupo paper and a second time from watercolor card stock that was smooshed with the same colors of ink and popped on top with very thin foam tape.

You can see the bottom layer of the leaf frame has more shine to it as it is the Yupo paper with alcohol inks. The top layer is more matte looking and it was turned around so that the leaf layers did not match up. I wanted a layered leaf look, so I decided to not line them up but instead reverse the top layer. I think it gives a really nice look to the card and especially like the contrast of shiny versus matte for the leaves.

Lastly I added some gems from Memory Box around the card front.

Here's one last look:

Feb 20th 3

I hope you like my card for today! Be sure to check out all the new release items in the Memory Box 2022 Spring Release. There are lots of gorgeous products including dies, new mirror papers, and stamps! You can find it all right HERE!

Thanks for stopping by!
