Thankful
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_3667

Hello everyone!  Today I have an easy, no coloring card for you.

I started by stamping and white heat embossing the pumpkin image onto kraft cardstock.  Next I used a gray water based marker to add some shadows to the image.

I spattered the background with white and black inks.

IMG_3666

I mounted the kraft panel onto a black cardstock mat and tied a piece of jute around the bottom of the card front.  I used foam tape to adhere it to a white card base.

Next I stamped the word "Thankful" on a strip of black cardstock, white heat embossed it and used foam tape to glue it to my card front.

IMG_3665

To finish the card, I added some Black Nuvo Drops to add a little dimension.

That's it for today! Have a great weekend!

Wreath Birthday Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone.  It is finally raining in the northwest and it just puts me in the card making mood.  I have a wreath birthday card with a lot of dimension and depth, with a little sparkle.  I have been using my mixed media supplies more and more.  In today's card  I'm using my sprays and embossing powder in this card.

Background Panel:

Create your own pattern paper with the Signature Stamp stamp set is easy with some embossing powder and ink. Cut heavy white card stock to 4 1/8" square.  Stamp Happy Birthday from the Signature Greetings stamp set with embossing ink all over the background.  I used a light golden embossing powder and heat set.  After cooled, ink blend from the sides half way in with Distress Oxide ink Antique Linen.  Leaving the center white.

Sentiment:

Gold heat emboss twice the Sending Happy Birthday from the Signature Greetings stamp set.  Making sure to let cool in-between embossing.  Die cut with matching die.

Wreath Elements:

Die cut the Eucalyptus Collage, Delicate Wreath and the flowers and birds die from the Willow Globe from heavy white card stock least 3 times.  Die cut the flowers at least 3 more times.  I used Lindys Spray inks to color my dies cuts using pink and golden sprays for flowers and 2 wreaths.  For the eucalyptus leaves and 1 wreath I used Lindys Magical powder Shabby Turbine Teal. Leave the birds white.  Using shaping tools I shaped the flowers and leaves while still slightly damp.

Happy Haunting

IMG_3559

Happy Friday everyone!  For today's card I used the castle stamp and turned it into a Haunted House.  It's a great way to get the most out of your everyday stamps.

Let's make the card:

  • Create a blended background on white cardstock using Distress Oxide inks.

IMG_3526

  • Lightly spritz with plain water and blot with a dry paper towel.
  • Stamp the castle on white cardstock and color with colored pencils.  Ink the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink, and die cut the image with the coordinating die.
  • Die cut the ghosts and moon from white cardstock and lightly ink the edges with Black Soot Distress ink.  Add a little bit of Mustard Seed Distress ink to the moon.
  • Die cut the gates and tree branches from black cardstock.
  • Stamp and white heat emboss the Happy Haunting on a strip of black cardstock.

IMG_3560

  • Glue the moon and the branches to the card.
  • Next, adhere the ghosts and the railings to the back of the haunted house and glue it to the card.
  • Use foam tape to adhere the sentiment under the haunted house.
  • Glue the card front to a black cardstock mat and adhere it to a white card base.
  • Use a thin lined black marker to add cracks to the windows.

That's it for today! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your weekend!

Seas the Day Collage/Mixed Media Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying the summer.  I just got done moving and reorganizing my craft corner.  I had a lot of supplies I had hardly used and wanted to use them again.  A college type scene using mixed media techniques is an easy way to use a lot of different product with your dies.  It is a sea themed collage using the latest Summer Day Dream and Under the Sea release dies and gems.

0E745A6F-E17D-4A73-9FE1-534BAF3D0A41_1_201_a

Technique:

I am not going to explain in exact detail on how I created the card.  With mixed media you are just playing with color and textures.  To start a mix media or collage it is easier to pick a color scheme and textures to use through out your design.  For the colors I did stick with traditional ocean colors.  I don't have a complete collection of any inks or paints and just mix and match the different products I have on hand.  The colors I did use  I will reference in distress inks, Speckled Egg, Mermaid Lagoon, Blueprint Sketch, and Cracked Pistachio.  I also used silver and bronze.  For texture I used embossing powders, texture pastes, and clear mica flakes.  Play with your products but keep to a color and texture theme and it will all come together in the end.

9DE8615F-D09D-4C1E-90E7-B8354BF6B1CD_1_201_a

Background:

For the background I used an extra heavy white card stock, ~140lb, and cut it to 7"x31/2".  I started with creating a stencil by die cutting the Jumbled Line Collage from acetate.  I used matte textured paste to stencil in the center of the background.  Let it dry.  I created a stamp from the Ring Stack die by die cutting from fun foam.  This is an easy why to turn any die cut into a stamp that can be used a few times.  I stamped and blue embossed the image randomly around the back ground.  Next I used spray inks to create the background in all colors in my scheme.  2 of the sprays were shimmer sprays.  Let dry.  To darken the background  ink blended Blueprint Sketch and Mermaid Lagoon in the center of the card.  Let dry.  Then I added some Distress Crackle paint randomly and then sprinkled with Distress Clear Mica Flakes.

Images:

For the images I die cut from the same extra heavy white card stock.  The dies I used are Marina Sailboats, Whale Family, End of My Rope Set, Deep Blue Ocean, and You Anchor Me.  I die cut several of each die and ended up with more then I used.  To color I used various techniques and textures.  Some I embossed with silver.  Some where ink blended with Distress inks and clear heat embossed.  Some where ink blended with Distress inked and applied Distress Crackle paint and sprinkled with Distress Mica Flakes.  Others were sprayed with ink and covered in the Distress Crackle paint.    To add silver to the ink blended die cuts I used a Gelato stick and blended with my fingers.

Assembly:

For placement I kept the images you would find at the top of the water closer to the top of the background and the images under the water closer to the bottom.  Some are only half adhered so I can place items behind them and in front of others to create layers.  Next add some Clear Fairy Drops for bubbles.  I framed the background on a dark blue paper and adhere to the top section of the 5"x7" white card.  For the Sentiment I used the Seas the Day stamp from Deep Blue Ocean stamp and die set with deep blue dye ink on strip of white card stock.  Then backed with the a strip of the same deep blue paper.  Adhered on the bottom left hand side of the card.

Layers of Ocean Sights and Sounds by Jean Okimoto

P1006886

Imagine the sound of waves on the shore - or echoing in a pearly seashell - and create a slimline card of sunwashed pastels.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with some inspiration for July's Nautical Challenge.  There are many more layers than usual - hope you like the composition, textures and soft colors.

P1006933

Cut the solid Grand Spiral Shell from watercolor paper painted in watery overlapping layers of pink, teal, cream and lavender.  Pressure-emboss the diecut with detailed Grand Spiral Shell die.  Cut the pale aqua Polished Foil 6x6 sheet with the detailed shell die.  The pressure embossing adds subtle shadows and debossed areas to secure the foil diecut.

Rub the Wood Grain Planks die briskly with scrunched waxed paper to help release the diecut.  Cut the planks from White Woodgrain cardstock

Cut the pale smokey blue 6x6 from the Stormy Blue Collection into 2 strips - 2-½" x 6" and 1-½" x 6".  Tape them to form a single strip.  Attach it - angled - to a White Woodgrain slimline card (3-⅝" x 8-⅝") so the spliced section will be covered by the tallest plank.

Cut the straight rope from the End of My Rope Set twice from White Woodgrain cardstock.  You could cut just one and cut it in half - but that would involve too much thinking for me!  Just wanted it to look like posts tied with ropes, like down at the pier.

Color three Clear Jewels with a violet Sharpie or Copic Marker.

Attach the planks, ropes, and Grand Spiral Shell to the background - use foamtape for the plank on the right. Stamp the greeting - from the new You Anchor Me Clear Stamp and Die Set - on a light lavender 6x6 from the Twilight Purple Collection with Fantasia VersaFine Clair.  Attach it with foamtape.  Add the jewels.

Hope you're enjoying the Summer Daydreams Collection!  Thanks for visiting...

Thinking of You
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_3317

Hello everyone! Today I have a CAS card for you featuring the new Eucalyptus Collage Die.

I started by die cutting the Eucalyptus die in the center of a green cardstock panel.  I sponged Forest Moss Distress ink on the stems and lower portion of the leaves to add some depth to them.

IMG_3319

I adhered a white piece of cardstock behind the die cut and mounted that on a lighter green cardstock mat.  Next, I used foam tape and mounted it on white and black cardstock mats.

On a strip of black cardstock, I stamped and white heat embossed the sentiment. Using foam tape, I glued it to the card.

IMG_3318

I adhered the card front to a white card base and used some fairy drops to finish the card.

That's it for today! I hope you have a great weekend!

Create an Ink-Blended Grand Galaxy Birthday Card by Jean Okimoto

P1006843

Dreamy blended colors and turquoise jewels transform a galaxy design from a guy-card to a special greeting for a birthday gal. Highlight the details of the new Grand Galaxy 3D Embossing Folder with soft layers of color, accent strips from the 6x6 cardstock collections and the sparkle of custom-colored Clear Jewels.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a quick, double-inked, embossed technique creates a different look each time you use it.  It's a variation of a technique Anne shared earlier - and a process we used for one of my spring card kits.

Cut smooth, heavy white cardstock to 4-¼" x 5-½".  Cover it with soft, blended overlapping layers of Distress Oxides.  A little white showing thru the colors is OK.  Colors used here are kitsch flamingo, cracked pistachio, wild honey, wilted violet and peacock feathers.  Use a brayer to apply peacock feathers to the top section of the Grand Galaxy 3D Embossing Folder.

 P1006853

Quickly spray 4 spritzes of water in the air - then catch the mist with the uninked backside of the cardstock.  Place the damp cardstock in the folder with the  inked side facing the inked half of the folder.  Run it through the diecut machine following your machine's embossing instructions.

Remove the cardstock and heat-set the inks.  Trim it to 3-¾" x 5" with a Rectangle Basics die.  Cut 4-½", 4" and 3" accent strips from the Fresh Aqua, Vibrant Violet and Sunny Orange collections.

Stamp the greeting - from the new Signature Greetings Clear Stamp and Die Set - on white cardstock with Warm Breeze VersaFine Clair.  Heat-set the ink, then cut the greeting with the matching die.  Don't cut the individual greetings apart - it's easier to tape the dies to stamped cardstock for cutting when everything is together.  And they're easier to find (and identify!) when they're together.

Cut an extra layer from a teal 6x6 sheet - use it to add dimension and a shadow to accent the greeting.

Color Clear Jewels with a turquoise Sharpie or Copic Marker.  Attach everything to a 5-½" square white card - use foamtape for the greeting.

Try this double-inking technique with some of our other 3D Embossing Folders too.  Thanks for visiting - hope you're liking our Summer Daydreams Collection!

Grand Galaxy Heat Embossed Embossing Folder Cards
by AnneThompson

Today's cards are all about a technique using heat embossing with the GRAND GALAXY EMBOSSING FOLDER EF1017 to create cards that are out of this world!

IMG_3210-ink

I will do my best to explain the technique but if you are a visual learner  you might want to watch Jennifer McGuire's heat embossed embossing folder tutorial from 05-04-21.

These are the supplies that I gathered.

IMG_3215-ink

the technique

Open the embossing folder and apply VersaMark Ink with a brayer to the side where the background is raised and the planets etc. are indented.  No brayer?  Apply the ink directly with the pad.  You will want to lightly cover the background of the image.

Select the cardstock you will use.  If you have a powder tool, use it on the cardstock before placing it face down onto the inked folder.  Close the folder and run it through your die cutting/embossing machine to apply the VersaMark to the cardstock.

Apply the embossing powder of your choice to the inked cardstock.  Heat it with a heat tool.

to finish the card

Trim the image to cover the front of the notecard like I did on the silver one.  Or add a piece of cardstock the same color as on the image to cover the notecard before adding the embossed piece cut slightly smaller.

Add some Fairy Jewels for some extra sparkle on some of the stars.

For the sentiment I chose the new HELLO STREAMLINED SCRIPT 94540, cut each one twice and stacked them for more dimension before adding "hello" to each card.  For the silver and blue sparkle cards I used foil paper layers on the background cardstocks and for the orange and purple cards I used two layers of the colored cardstocks.

IMG_3210-ink

Here's a close-up to show off the shimmer and shine a bit more.IMG_3218-ink

This technique works great with the Memory Box floral embossing folders, too!  On the cards below I used BLOOMING SWEET PEA EF 1020 and BLOOMING EF1014 with gold, white, and clear sparkle embossing powders.
IMG_3210-ink

Have fun trying out this technique with your embossing folders.  Happy Crafting!

Happy Birthday
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_3285

Hello everyone!  Today's card features products from the new Memory Box Summer Daydreams Collection.  I saw a fun technique that Gina K demonstrated on her Youtube channel called Emerging Watercolor.

I taped a piece of watercolor paper to my surface and colored the background using two colors of Tombow Markers.  You can use any water based markers, watercolor or inks for this technique.

IMG_3281

Once my background was colored, I used a paintbrush and plain water to blend the color.  I dried the background completely, then used embossing ink to stamp the fish on the background.  I used clear embossing powder to heat emboss the stamped fish.

IMG_3282

Next, I sprayed the background with water and used a dry paper towel to pick up the color. I did this several times to remove as much color as I could.  The embossing powder acts as a resist and the end result is almost a batik look to your background.

IMG_3283

Once the background was dry I used the Wrapped Stitch Rectangles to die cut my paper.  I glued two strips of orange cardstock to the background and used foam tape to adhere the die cut anchor to the card.

I die cut the banner from white cardstock, stamped "Happy Birthday" in orange ink and used foam tape to glue it to my card.

IMG_3286

I used foam tape to adhere the card front to a white card base and glued some Fairy Drops to finish off the card.

Thanks for stopping by today!
