Warm Suede Mitten Wishes
by Trina Pham

IMG_8274Hello everyone.  I have a simple winter card to share today featuring an “oldie but-goodie’ faux suede technique and the Stitchable Mitten die set from the 2024 Winter Days collection.

Solid core paper, or paper that was dyed throughout the whole sheet, is required for this technique.  Started by trimming Deep Turquoise paper to fit the Stitchable Mitten.  Used a bone folder next to curl the paper front and back just like curling ribbon until the paper eventually separates.  If it does’t separate easily, then continue to break the fibres of the paper until it does. This will result in two pieces of soft “suede-like” textured paper as seen in the photo below.

IMG_8273

As evident from the photo, the faux suede papers are lighter in color than the original paper because they are a single layer.  To strengthen them before die cutting the mittens from them, they were glued to 80# cardstock.  I used the backside of cuff cutouts because I liked the texture that was caused by the scratched up cutting plate when running them through the die cutting machine.  Added faux stitching with a white gel pen.

IMG_8278

The background panel is Bristol paper trimmed to 4.5x6-inches and then dry embossed with the Winter Knit 3D embossing folder.   Needed the larger size to fit both mittens.  The snowflakes were die cut from white glitter paper.   Assembled the card onto a white card base then added the gold foil white banner tab to finish.

IMG_8276

That does it for my card.  Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful day.

Greenery and Berries Merry Christmas
by Anne Thompson

To make today's card I went through the dies from the 2024 Yuletide Collection and pulled out BRILLIANT BERRIES 94830, PINECONE DUO 94802, PINE BRANCHES 94817, and FESTIVE HOLLY 94801 as well as  the YULETIDE PLAIDS PP1031 papers.  From the 2024 Winter Days Collection I chose WREATH SPRIGS 94814 and MERRY CHRISTMAS SWIRL 94803.  I didn't have a plan.  I just wanted to see how I might use all or most of these dies together to create a card.  And this is it!  (In the end I didn't use the Pinecone Duo.) 0-1

I used scraps of papers to die cut the images--two greens, brown, beige, red, and white watercolor paper.  0-5 0-4

  • I added the berries to the branches using Glue Dots and used a Glue Pen to adhere the two parts of the Merry Christmas Swirl together and the Pinecone Duo.
  • I chose a horizontal side fold white note card and added a piece of Yuletide Plaid 5 1/4 X 4 to the front.
  • Then I auditioned the various die cuts around the Merry Christmas Swirl.
  • I used Glue Dots to attach the white berries to the upper right of the sentiment and the smaller cluster of greenery and red berries to the lower left.
  • I placed the other greenery and red berries tucked behind the sentiment and glued to the card front.
  • I used dimensional foam squares to add Merry Christmas with the greenery and berries to the note card. 0-3

What I learned is that sometimes you don't need a plan.   Just experiment, see how things look together, and then add adhesives!

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas here in Maine--two snowstorms already with a light one forecast for overnight; two holiday concerts this past week; and the annual Holiday Stroll in my little village where my house was one of the vendor locations over the weekend.  Wherever you are and however you celebrate this month I hope that you are enjoying this season.

Happy Crafting!

Snowflakes and Stitches by Jean Okimoto

P1037037

Celebrate the season with double-embossing, felt, simple stitches and glistening snowflakes.  We're using the other half of the Winter Knit 3D Embossing Folder design from my December 3rd post.

P1037139

Cut a piece of Cherry Red 8-1/2" x 11" cardstock to fit into the Winter Knit 3D Embossing Folder.  Spritz both sides of the cardstock with a light mist of water, place it in the folder and run it through a diecut machine using the plates required for your machine.  Gently dry it with a heat-tool if it's still damp.

Tap a clean, well-inked VersaMark inpad over the embossed design.  Just tap, don't squish it.  I usually ink both sides of the embossed design and chose the side that highlights more details.  Cover the inked design(s) with detail clear powder.  Tap off the excess and heat-emboss it.  Turn the heat-tool off 2 or 3 times while embossing so it won't overheat.

P1037066

Cut the cooled, embossed design with the new Stitchable Stocking die.

Cut a 1/2" x2" strip of white wool-blend felt for the stocking loop.  Attach adhesive label paper (or a sticker sheet) to the felt.  Cut the toe and cuff sections.  Align the cuff and toe with the stitching dots on the stocking and stitch it with white embroidery floss or crochet thread. Attach the felt loop.

Cut two sets Cherry Red cardstock buttons.  Layer them for dimension and stitch them with thread or floss.  Glue them to the cuff.

P1037070

Cut the light Kraft cardstock with the 3-1/2" wide Nested Globes die.  Cut Alpine Snowflakes from a white Delicate Pastels Glitter Pad 6x6.  Attach the diecuts to a light Kraft card (4-1/2" x 6-1/4".  Add red Christmas Fairy Crystals.  Add a greeting banner from the Merry and Bright White Foil Banners - attach the right side with foam tape.  Cut a A6-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

Thanks for visiting - have a great weekend!

A Cute Christmas Tag
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_9739

Hi everyone!  Today I have a cute tag featuring the Stitchable Mitten Die and other products from the 2024 Winter and Yuletide release.

IMG_9741

I die cut the mitten twice from patterned paper and glued them together.  The mitten cuff was die cut from white cardstock and glued to the top of the mitten.  I used a white gel pen to add faux stiches around the mitten.

I die cut the Snowman and Pine Branches from white cardstock and used Rustic Wilderness and Festive Berries Distress Inks to add color to them.  I assembled the snowman and added white stripes to the scarf using a white gel pen.  I glued a white pom pom to his hat and black gems for his buttons.  I used a pink colored pencil to add some color to the cheeks.

The pine branches were glued in place on the mitten and the snowman was adhered with foam tape on top of the branches.

I glued the foil banner to the mitten and added a piece of bakers twine for the tie.

Note: This could also be used as an ornament for your tree.

Merry and Bright Stitchable Mitten by Jean Okimoto

A double-embossed Stitchable Mitten from the Winter Days Collection is very merry, and very bright.  Vertical placement of the Winter Knit 3D Embossing Folder design elongates the mitten - like me hoping that vertical stripes would help me look tall and slim.  Wishful thinking!

Hi, Jean here with a bit of inspiration for December's Ravishing in Red Challenge.  It's simply stitched in two colors - just enough to add texture and live up to the name of the great die set.

MemoryBoxStitchableMitten, MemoryBoxWinterKnit3DEmbossingFolder, MemoryBoxGreenery6x6, MemoryBoxCherryRedCardstock, MemoryBoxChristmasFairyDewdrops, MemoryBoxMerryAndBrightFoilBannersBlackTabs, MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectanglesm , JeanOkimoto, MemoryBoxCo, MemoryBoxDies, DiecutCards, CardmakingIdeas, VersaMark, ImagineCrafts, CardDesign, HolidayCards, FeltDiecuts, 3DEmbossingFolder, EmbossedCards

Using the pattern vertically also lets you cut the Stitchable Stocking for another project.

Cut a piece of Cherry Red Cardstock to fit into the Winter Knit 3D Embossing Folder.  Tap a clean, well-inked VersaMark inkpad repeatedly over the design.  Don't squish it into the design, just tap it.  I inked both  halves of the folder to chose between the  heat-embossed results.  Spritz both sides of Cherry Red Cardstock with a light mist of water to soften it and prevent cracking.  Place it in the inked folder and run it through your diecut machine using the plates required for embossing folders.

If the cardstock is still slightly damp - gently dry it with a heat-tool.  Sprinkle both VersaMarked designs with detail clear powder, tap off the excess, then heat-emboss each side.  Stop and let the heat-tool cool down two or three times to prevent overheating.

Prep the Stitchable dies by rubbing them briskly with scrunbched waxed paper to help release the little dots.  Select the embossed pattern for your card and cut it with the Stitchable Mitten die.

Attach adhesive label paper (or a sticker sheet) to wool-blend white felt to stabilize the felt and prevent adhesives from saturating it.  Cut the mitten cuff.  Stitch the top row of the cuff with white crochet thread.  Align the cuff with the holes on the mitten, then stitch the remainder of the cuff.

Stitch the rest of the mitten with red crochet thread.

Cut  the flowers from the set twice from Cherry Red Cardstock.  Cut the centers twice from a light green Leafy Collection 6x6.  Cut the leaves from a medium green Leafy Collectiobn 6x6. Save the extra pieces for another project.

Cut light Kraft cardstock with the 3-1/2" wide Wrapped Stitched Rectangles die.

Attach the diecuts to a light Kraft A6 card - 4-1/2" x 6-1/4".  Attach a Merry and Bright Foil Banners Black Tab - use foam tape for the left end.  Add red Christmas Fairy Dewdrops.  Cut an A6-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

A Partridge and a Wish for Peace by Jean Okimoto

P1036953

Gold-spritzed pears, a felt-based partridge and a wish for peace on earth create a traditional greeting in shades of green and gray.  It can be a guy-card too.  Hi, Jean here once again.  Big thanks to Theary and Angie for switching post days with me as I worked thru tech challenges and adjusted to new things.

P1036976

Spritz a light green 6x6 from the Greenery Collection with Imagine's Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz.  Let it dry, then cut it with the smaller pear trio from the new Pretty Pear Branch set.  Cut the 3 larger pears from an olive green 6x6.  Cut the leafy branch and individual leaves from a dark green 6x6.b  Ink the 2 narrow leaf halves with Shady Lane VersaFine Clair.

Cover the attached leaves with a Post-it and ink the stems with Toffee VersaFine.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to light gray wool-blend felt and cut the large base section new Lovely Partridge.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from saturating it.  Cut  the remaining layers from light and dark gray cardstock.

Color the beak section with a light orange marker.  Color the eye area with a black marker.   Attach it behind the head.  Assemble the partridge.

Cut the 3-1/2" wide Nested Globe from natural cardstock.  Cut the 3" wide Nested Globe from cardstock - any color, because it'll be hidden.  We're using 2 sizes of the globe for the background - the smaller globe won't show as it adds dimension.

P1036981

Attach the diecuts to a natural A6 card (4-1/2" x 6-1/4") - use foam tape for the partridge.  Attach a Christmas Label Foil Greeting Tab with foam tape. Add green Bright Jewels.  Cut an A6-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

3)  dry emboss a turquoise panel with the Pinecone and Berries embossing folder then tap over the top of it with white ink

4)  trim the turquoise piece down to fit behind the frame

5)  using the red foiled panel, use the top and toe of the stocking and cut them out

6)  cut the main stocking piece from white woodgrain paper, then put the stocking together

7) on black cardstock, heat emboss sentiment in white and trim down to fit on stocking

Holiday Greetings from a Sweet Bird by Jean Okimoto

Deliver holiday greetings with the new Sweet Bird on a sparkly double-embossed snowflake background.  Hi, Jean here - cyclone has passed - just working around flickering power, weak WIFI  and non-loading photos.  We have a generator but it doesn't guarantee WIFI or post photos!

MemoryBoxSweetBird, MeoryBoxSnowflakeHotFoilPlate, MemoryBoxVintageTray3DEmbossingFolderAndDie, MemoryBoxAlpineSnowflakes, MemoryBoxMerry+BrightFloilBanners, MemoryBoxLagoon6x6, MemoryBoxSunrise6x6, MemoryBoxChristmasFairyDewdrops, MemoryBoxRainbowReflectionsMirrorPad, JeanOkimoto, MemoryBoxCo, MemoryBoxDies, Diecuttiong, AdventCalendar, AdventBox, Cardmaking, HolidaytCardmaking, Papercrafts, 6x6PaperPads, 6x6PaperCrafts, VersaMark, ImagineCrafts

Used the Snowflake Hot Foil Plate to pressure-emboss heavy white cardstock.  Spritz both sides of the cardstock with a light mist of water and wait a few seconds for it to be absorbed.  Pressure-emboss the cardstock with the plates and rubber mat required for your machine,  Hot foil plates are are thicker and less pliable than other embossing products.  Don't force it through your machine if it seems to be struggling.  We don't want to damage the plates, the machine or your arm!

If the embossed cardstock is still damp, gently dry it with a heat-tool.  Place it (detaled-side-up) on a hard, flat surface and use a hard rubber brayer to apply VersaMark from a clean, well-inked pad.  Cover it with clear, ultra-fine iridescent embossing powder, tap the excess off and heat-emboss it.  Let it cool, then cut it with the die from the Vintage  Tray 3D Embossing Folder and Cutting Die set.

The blackout embossing/inking technique is popular right now.  Let's call this the whiteout technique! MemoryBoxSweetBird, MeoryBoxSnowflakeHotFoilPlate, MemoryBoxVintageTray3DEmbossingFolderAndDie, MemoryBoxAlpineSnowflakes, MemoryBoxMerry+BrightFloilBanners, MemoryBoxLagoon6x6, MemoryBoxSunrise6x6, MemoryBoxChristmasFairyDewdrops, MemoryBoxRainbowReflectionsMirrorPad, JeanOkimoto, MemoryBoxCo, MemoryBoxDies, Diecuttiong, AdventCalendar, AdventBox, Cardmaking, HolidaytCardmaking, Papercrafts, 6x6PaperPads, 6x6PaperCrafts, VersaMark, ImagineCrafts

Use four of the five tray offcuts for the background.  Cut the mid-sized Alpine Snowflake from the 1-3/4" x 1-1/2" block - it doesn't matter if you cut into the snowflake patternn - we just want  a glittery white snowflake diecut to layer behind the bird.

Cut the turquoise Rainbow Reflections 6x6 with the Vintage Tray's narrow rectangle.

Attach adhesive label paper (or a sticker sheet) to  turquoise wool-blend felt to stabilize it and keep adhesives from saturating it.  Cut Sweet Bird's tail and main section from the felt.  Cut the 2 wing sections from the Rainbow Reflections 6x6.  Cut the head and chest sections from an aqua 6x6 in the Lagoon Collection.  Cut the small beak/face section from a light orange 6x6 in the Sunrise Collection.  Color the eye area with a black marker.  Assemble the bird.

MemoryBoxSweetBird, MeoryBoxSnowflakeHotFoilPlate, MemoryBoxVintageTray3DEmbossingFolderAndDie, MemoryBoxAlpineSnowflakes, MemoryBoxMerry+BrightFloilBanners, MemoryBoxLagoon6x6, MemoryBoxSunrise6x6, MemoryBoxChristmasFairyDewdrops, MemoryBoxRainbowReflectionsMirrorPad, JeanOkimoto, MemoryBoxCo, MemoryBoxDies, Diecuttiong, AdventCalendar, AdventBox, Cardmaking, HolidaytCardmaking, Papercrafts, 6x6PaperPads, 6x6PaperCrafts, VersaMark, ImagineCrafts

Attach the diecuts to a white A6 card (4-1/2" x 6-1/4") - use foam tape for Sweet Bird.  Add a greeting from the new white Merry and Bright Foil Banners set.  Add red Christmas Fairy Dewdrops.  Cut an a A6-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

Thanks for visiting!  Have a Happy Thanksgiving if you're celebrating tomorrow!

Create a Holiday Keepsake with Advent Tabs by Jean Okimoto

Create a special keepsake with the new Advent Tabs. Fill it with sweet treats, little notes - or tiny diecuts for your favorite papercrafter.  Or a mix of all three!  Hi, Jean here with a white Advent Circle Tabs design for the holidays.  I've used a rediscovered Advent box set from my stash.

The instructions are lengthy, but the techniques are very basic!  It's a diagonal layout for color variation that's not distracting.  Numbers run in a clockwise spiral and end with a special glittery design in the center.  Hope you like it!

Cut strips of the new Cranberry 8-1/2" x 11" Cardstock and attach them to the top, bottom and sides.

Cut the new Cherry Red 8.5x11" cardstock with the second-smallest Fringed Scallop Frame.  Cut it into 2 pieces, a tiny bit shorter than 1.5" high.  Nine are needed for the project.  Use the 1/2" Circle Basics die or a punch to cut a semi-circle notch at the top.

We're using the new Snowflake Rub-Ons on green cardstock for the red squares.  Cut a piece  about 3-1/2" x 5-1/2" - you'll have extra snowflakes, but this provides a mix of designs to chose from.  Carefully remove the paper backing and lightly tap the designs onto a bright lime green 6x6 from the Greenery Collection.  Place it between 2 layers of printer paper and run it through a diecut machine with the plates used for cutting.  Or use a wood craft stick to burnish the rub-ons.  Select and handcut 8 sections - then trim them with the 1" Square Basics die.  Carefully remove the plastic liners.

The "25" square features a 1" square of a bright green Glitzy Glitter Pad 6x6.  Cut the largest Alpine Snowflake from the white Festive Glitter Pad 6x6.

Cut 8 medium-green Greenery 6x6 squares with the 1-1/2"  Square Basics die.  Cut 8 dark-green squares.  Cut 1/2" semi-circles.

Use the 1" Square Basics die to cut 8 of the green Christmas Tree print from the Nutmeg Forest 6x6 set.  Cut 8  1"squares from a green/gold Yuletide Plaid 6x6.

Attach the 1-1/2" background squares to the Advent set.  It's easier to place doublestick tape on the boxes and add the red and green backgrounds.  Add the decorative 1" squares.  And finally... attach the Advent Circle Tabs!

Snowy Wistful Sparrow
by Trina Pham

IMG_8149

Hello everyone.  With so many bird dies in the 2024 Winter Days collection, I have another “tweet” snowy scene bird Christmas card to share today.

All pieces were die cut from white and colored with distress inks (DI) using different techniques.  Ink blending was done for the sparrow; ink smooshing watercolor paper before die cutting out for the foliage (the Wreath Sprigs were split from the tips with scissors as described in this post); direct-to-paper for the window.

DI used:
bird - Antique Linen, Lost Shadow, Black Soot, Spiced Marmalade (beak)
Wreath Sprigs - Rustic Wilderness
Eucalyptus - Iced Spruce
window - Gathered Twigs

IMG_8150

The Snowy Lantern snow piles were shaded with B000, BV000 and C1 Copic Sketc markers.  Stripes of Stormy Sky DI was watercolored across a piece of Bristol paper for a window reflection effect.  To give it even more authenticity, added acetate behind the window opening.  Assembled the focal image arrangement then splattered it with diluted white gouache paint and colored the sprigs with a white Posca pen for a snowy look.  Once dry, mounted it onto a white woodgrain panel and adhered the gold foil greetings white tab to finish.

IMG_8151

And that does it for my card   Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful day.
