Create a Wide Washi Tape Background Border by Jean Okimoto

Layer the Cascadia Background Strip over the Cornelia Aqua Wide Washi Tape to create a bold border for the Splendid Poppy Stems.  The washi tape has so many pretty colors  it's easy to find matching inks for the poppies.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with more designs from our Garden Party Collection.

MemoryBoxCascadiaBackgroundStrip, MemoryBoxSplendidPoppy Stems, MemoryBoxTwinklingJewelGlitterPad, MemoryBoxCorneliaWideWashiTape, MemoryBoxPeonyGardenCornerClearStamps, MemoryBoxFairySugarGlitterGlue, JeanOkimoto, FlowerDiecuts, BorderDiecuts, WatercoloredFlowers, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Cut Splendid Poppy Stems from the smoother side of Open Studio Watercolor Paper.  Give it a light spritz of water to help blend the inks, then sponge it with Distress Oxides. The colors used here are carved pumpkin, worn lipstick, squeezed lemonade and mowed lawn.

Cut a 3-¾" x 5-⅝" rectangle of smooth white cardstock.  Cut it with the new Cascadia Background Strip.  Attach a strip of Cornelia Aqua Wide Washi Tape to printer paper -  it's lighter than cardstock and the edges won't show under the rectangle.  Attach it behind the rectangle.

Stamp the greeting - from the new Peony Garden Corner Clear Stamps and Die Set - with VersaFine Clair Shady Lane.

Attach everything to a white A-6 card.  Add ¼" punched circles of yellow glitter cardstock from the Twinkling Jewel Glitter Pad.  Accent the flowers with Open Studio Sour Apple Glitter Glue.

I love the pretty mix of blue and orange flowers on the Cornelia Aqua Wide Washi Tape. It's fresh and different - and looks like it'll be a great match for the new speckled egg Distress Oxide inkpad.

Thanks for visiting - see you again this weekend!

Feathered Friends and Stitched Bump Border by Jean Okimoto

The sweet owl from Feathered Friends rests comfortably on a branch layered over the Stitched Bump Border on a fall card.  It's a mix of favorite dies, Scotch 3M washi and duct tapes - and some Tape Too Challenge inspiration.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a combination of great dies from my Memory Box stash.

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxSwoopingBranchesandLeavesDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxStitchedBumpBorder-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-WashiTapeDiecuts-WashiTapeCards-VersaFineClair-JeanOkimoto

Attach the duct tapes, dotted washi tape and striped washi tape to white cardstock.  Attach the pink and orange patterned washi tape to pale gray cardstock.  Diecut the border, owl, eyes, beak and wing.  Assemble the owl - add movement to the wing by attaching it with a tiny gold brad that will allow it to move up and down.

Attach the border to a top-folded 5-¼" light gray square card.  Trim the right edge.

Cut the branch from the Swooping Branches and Leaves set from dark kraft cardstock.

Stamp the greeting - from the Spring Lilacs Clear Stamps Set - on light gray cardstock with Summertime VersaFine Clair.  Quickly emboss it with detail clear powder. Trim it with the 1" x  2" Stitched Rectangle Layers die.  It's a great match for the Stitched Bump Border - the stitches are hard to see on the black duct tape here,  but they're there!

Attach the diecuts to the the card - use foam dots for the owl.

Write a short note on the inside, sign it, and send it to someone awesome!

Stitched Bump Border can be used in so many ways - here's a snowman from an earlier post...

Use Stitched Bump Border for snowdrifts, beachy waves, sandbanks or rolling hills too.  It's also great for cutting a scalloped edge for stenciling.

If you're in the Seattle area - join us for the PAPERSTYLE 2019 - CALENDAR OR NOTECARDS class at Impress on September 30th.  We're layering 3-½" x 5" calendar pages or notecards with great seasonal and holiday icons and beautiful artpapers.  Keep the calendar or notecards for yourself - or present them as thoughtful gifts and a bit of year-round design inspiration.

Happy Saturday! Today I want to highlight a few of the new dies from the latest release. It has been so fun to see all of the design team using them this week.

IMG_8293

For my card today I used the beautiful Hutton Border die and I cut the edge on the front of the card. I just love how it turned out. I glued a piece of teal paper to the inside of the card, it makes the die cut edge really stand out.
IMG_8293

I added a piece of silver glitter paper to the front of the card and then die cut the two layers of the Thanks Jotted Script die. The background layer was cut in vellum and the top layer was cut in a black mirror card. I glued them to the card to finish it off.

Thanks for stopping by the blog have a wonderful weekend!

Snow Bunny, Sentimental Happy Valentine’s Day and Dibble Heart Border by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSentimentalHappyValentine'sDay-MemoryBoxDibbleHeartBorder-MemoryBoxSnowBunnyDeepEdgeDies-JeanOkimotoForMemoryBox-MemoryBoxValentines-DiecutValentines-BunnyCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Snow Bunny - from the Deep Edge Dies Collection - gets ready for February 14th with the new Sentimental Valentine's Day greeting and some hearts from the new Dibble Heart Border.  Together they create a sweet greeting for a special child or grandchild - or anyone who likes to smile.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with another design featuring Valentine dies from our latest release.  Here's the same bunny that appeared as a puppy a few weeks ago - and he'll definitely be back for Easter!

MemoryBoxSentimentalHappyValentine'sDay-MemoryBoxDibbleHeartBorder-MemoryBoxSnowBunnyDeepEdgeDies-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxValentines-BunnyCards-DiecutValentines

Diecut Snow Bunny from natural cardstock.  Cut the accent pieces from printed paper, felt (rosy cheeks and tail) and cardstock (eyes and nose).  Add a sparkly red glittered cardstock heart cut with the Dibble Heart Border.  Assemble and trim the bunny so it fits on a 5-½" square card of kraft cardstock.

Attach Scor-tape behind red cardstock and cut Sentimental Happy Valentine's Day - save the apostrophe for "valentine's."  There's also a tiny dot over the "i" - but I used a glittered dot from the Dibble Dot Border for extra sparkle.  OK - confessing -it's because I lost the greeting's original dot somewhere between my Platinum machine and the card.

Gently flex the words into wonky curves and attach them to the card.  Add tiny glittered hearts from the Dibble Dot Border.

Square cards take extra postage - but this bunny is sure to make someone smile!

Big thanks to everyone from last weekend's SO MANY HEARTS class at Impress!  Hope you liked the cards and candy tote - and were inspired to try color and paper combinations of your own too.  Extra thanks to Ann, Erin and Laura for finding all of the supplies we needed and filling those shopping baskets!

If you're in the Seattle area, join us for the NEW FROM MEMORY BOX class on January 20th.  Create 6 cards featuring the latest release - and some classic favorites from my stash.  You know how much I  love combining products and finding new ways to use "old" dies.  I think you'll love the pretty papers, glittery accents and designs I've selected to take advantage of all of the great products Dave's designed for us.

We've added a second LOVE IS SWEET class.  It's on the last weekend in January - details are coming soon.  Hope you can join us then if you missed the first class a few weeks ago.  We're making 6 cards, including a candy card.  Lots of glitter, pretty papers and techniques!

Thanks for stopping by - and for all of your sweet and thoughtful comments during last week's Blog Blitz.  See you again next week!

New Distressed Heart Collage, Dibble Heart Border and Have a Heart by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxDistressedHeartCollage-MemoryBoxDibbleHeartBorder-MemoryBoxHaveAHeartSet-MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-JeanOkimoto-DiecutValentines-BirdValentines-CollageValentines-MemoryBoxDeepEdgeDies-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-ShizenDesigns

The new Distressed Heart Collage, Dibble Heart Border and Have a Heart create a bold background for the happy owl from the Feathered Friends Deep Edge Dies.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a Spring 2018 Release preview Valentine card for you today.

The Distressed Heart Collage set of four cool/vintage/bold/edgy designs  creates great backgrounds - and little heart cutouts in a array of versatile sizes.  They make sweet DIY accents from glittered cardstock, mirror cardstock, felt and vellum.  This set will definitely earn a place in your stash.

Cut the Distressed Heart Collage from black cardstock.  It's not torn along the edges - that's what it's supposed to look like - I promise!  Cut gold glittered cardstock with the same Distressed Heart Collage die.  Save the outlines for another project - it's too pretty to toss.  Use three - or as many as you wish - of the sparkly heart cutouts here.

Cut the red cardstock heart with a Have a Heart die.

Cut the Feathered Friends owl from printed paper - like this cool screenprint from Shizen Design.  Cut another owl from black cardstock to layer for dimension and bit of a shadow effect along the right and bottom edges.

Cut the face from textured natural cardstock. Cut the wing from gold glittered cardstock.

Here's an improvement of technique I shared earlier.  Stick two layers of orange cardstock together with doublestick tape to add dimension to the little pieces. The deep edge dies are great for cutting through multiple layers.  Scribble a portion of it with a black Sharpie.  Position the eyes+beak die on the cardstock so it cuts the black section just for the eyes - and the orange section for the beak.  That's a lot easier than cutting the pieces from black and orange cardstock.  It's also beats trying to color the tiny eye circles with a black marker (like I did earlier).   Live and learn!

Cut red glittered cardstock with Dibble Heart Border for that little heart on the owl.

Attach the diecuts to an A-6 card (4-⅝" x 6-¼") of kraft cardstock.  No need to add sequins or gems - it's already blinged!

Hope you're enjoying this week's  preview of our Spring 2018 Release.  Hearts, borders, flowers, butterflies, bunnies, sea creatures, collages, greetings, clear stamp sets and matching dies - it's everything you'll need for Valentines, holiday gift thank-yous and spring cards.  Be sure your favorite retailer has placed their order - I know Impress has!  View them here.  I saw Jeannie busy receiving and stocking them  - and Becca was packing some for online orders too.

If you're in the Seattle area - join us for the first class of 2018 at Impress this Saturday.  We're starting off with LOVE IS SWEET - 6 Valentine cards featuring the new release.  Can't wait to see everyone again this weekend!

Snow Bunny Becomes a Friendly Puppy On Stitched Curves by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSnowBunnyDeepEdgeDie-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxStitchedCurves-MemoryBoxSentimentailIrisClearStamps-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDeepEdgeDies-DogCards-DiecutDogCards-FriendCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The Deep Edge Snow Bunny die set creates a sweet bunny and - with a bit of creativity - a friendly little puppy too!  Hi everyone - Jean Okimoto here, on the last weekend of a very busy year.  I love using Memory Box dies in unique ways - and this may be an extreme makeover - but I think he looks quite spiffy.  Hope you agree!

MemoryBoxSnowBunnyDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxStitchedCurves-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioSentimentalIrisClearStamps-JeanOkimoto-DiecutDogCards

Cut the head and midsection from kraft cardstock.  Cut three paws from dark kraft cardstock - one will be his mouth.

Cut his arms from dark kraft cardstock - they'll be his back paws.  Hind paws?

Cut two midsections from printed paper and fold them to form floppy ears.  I've used this great print from Shizen Designs - Impress can order it for you.  It's item #HP1172.  Love how the lines converge and curve to add dimension.

Cut the body and the angled scarf section from printed paper.  The scarf section will be a tail.

Cut the straight scarf section from red felt attached to adhesive label paper for stability.  That's his collar!

Cut eyes and a nose from black cardstock.  Cut the nose from pink cardstock for a tongue.

Assemble the bunny-turned-into-a-puppy.  Use foam dots for the ears and head

Cut two layers of Stitched Curves from textured natural cardstock.  Glue them together, then trim them with the long edge of the 4" x 5-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Borders a bit shorter than the card create neat edges that don't look bulky.

Stamp the greeting - from the Sentimental Iris Clear Stamps Set - on a 5-½" square card of textured natural cardstock with Lightning Black Brilliance.  Dry the ink and attach the pup.  Add a red glittered heart sticker and gold gem stickers.

Square and thick cards require extra postage - but I think this little guy and his kind message will brighten someone's day.

Sketch Form Butterflies Along the Cubic Border
by Jean Okimoto

Send a summer thank you with a trio of Sketch Form Butterfly diecuts. Re-purpose a favorite stamp and take advantage of the versatile Butterfly Ensemble and Morning Garden Butterfly die sets...again!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here - with an easy watercolored design for a summer greeting.

Press the dye inks from a Melon Melody Kaleidacolor multi-color inkpad onto a large acrylic stamp block.  Spritz the smoother side of a 6"square of watercolor paper with water and paint it with watery, overlapping layers of  the orange, yellow and green inks.  Heat-set the inks.  Press the paper with a dry iron on the cotton setting.

Stamp Sketch Form Butterfly with Onyx Black VersaFine and emboss it with detail clear powder. Here's a quick tip -  pre-heat the back of the stamped paper for a few seconds - then quickly finish embossing the design from the right side.  This minimizes over-heating and scorching the stamped image and keeps it nice and glossy.

Cut three butterflies with two of the Butterfly Ensemble dies.  Cut black cardstock butterflies and attach them (offset)  behind the watercolored designs to add dimension and a subtle drop-shadow look along some areas.

Cut three butterfly centers from gold mirror cardstock using the dies from the Morning Garden Butterflies set.

Cut the front of a top-folded green A-2 card with Cubic Border.  Stamp the greeting from the new Thank You Sentiments clear stamp set with Onyx Black.

Attach the butterflies and add gold gem stickers.

MemoryBoxSketchFormButterfly-MemoryBoxCubicBorder-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxThankYouSentiments-JeanOkimoto-Kaleidacolor-WatercoloredButterflies-WatercoloredButterflyCards-DiecutCards

I love thinking of ways to get the most from my huge stash of Memory Box and Open Studio designs - and sharing these ideas with you.  The rustic, hand-drawn look of the Sketch Form Butterfly makes it one of my favorite stamps - hope you like it too.

Thanks for stopping by...

Sheer Circle Trimming and Fish Tales from the May Release
by Jean Okimoto

A junior fish from the new Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set is the awesome alpha fish here, leading the Family of Fish across a watercolored backdrop.  The new Sheer Circle Trimming border - also from the May Release - accents this beachy scene.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a design for a Dad, grad, or anyone special.

MemoryBoxFamilyOfFish-MemoryBoxFishTalesClearStampSet-MemoryBoxFishTalesDieSet-MemoryBoxSheerCircleTrimming-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ShizenDesign-PeerlessWatercolors-WatercoloredFishCards

Paint deckled watercolor paper from Shizen Design with Peerless Watercolors and dry it.  Add a light layer of diluted Peerless Transparent Gold for a soft shimmer.

MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto

Specialty papers can be challenging - especially when you need straight edges and sharp corners.  Memory Box dies are the perfect solution. They're great for cutting artpapers - including this watercolor paper made from recycled garment industry fabric scraps and the metallic marbled paper for the stamped fish.

Place the deckled edge inside the cutting edges of the Rectangle Basics die and trim the watercolor paper.  I love the way the edge complements the Sheer Circle Trimming.

Cut white cardstock with the 3-3/4" x 5" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut it again with the Sheer Circle Trimming.  Determine the placement of the watercolor paper.  Cut the watercolor paper with the matching section of the Sheer Circle Trimming die.

Cut Family of Fish from Turquoise Cardstock. Remove the fish on the right side.

Stamp the fish on metallic marbled paper from Shizen Design with VersaFine Onyx Black.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.  Cut it with the matching die from the new Fish Tales Die Set.  Cut an extra fish from cardboard and layer it for dimension.

Stamp  and emboss the greeting - from the new Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set - on orange cardstock.

Attach everything to a white A-2 card - use foam dots to attach the greeting.  Add gold gem stickers.

Do you have a stash of special artpapers that are a bit challenging to cut because of their texture, fibers and metallic inks?  Trimmers, paper punches and scissors tend to slip and/or tear the paper.  Cut them with Memory Box and Poppystamps dies instead!

Please be sure to join us for our May Collection Blog Blitz next week.  We can't wait to introduce you to our newest dies and stamps - and share our ideas with you.   New products, design inspiration and prizes!

Thanks for stopping by...have a great weekend.

Serene Summer
by Lindsay

Hello paper crafting friends!

I have a colorful card to share with you today, using more of the fabulous Spring release! As you know, I love ink blending, and bold color, so obviously, that is what you will get today.

DSC_0259

I started with a piece of watercolor paper, and applied several shades of ink to it using a foam blending tool. I then spritzed on some water, let it sit for a few seconds, and blotted the water off with a paper towel.

DSC_0257

I sat the paper aside, and began die cutting the Antilles Floral Border with white card stock. I die cut enough to cover the whole piece. I then adhered it with tiny pieces of foam tape, and finished it with sequins.

DSC_0256 2

I hope you were inspired today! Thank you so much for joining me! I hope you have a beautiful day!
