Many cultures believe that anything given on New Year, in the shape of a ring is good luck, because it symbolizes "coming full circle".

Visit the Spanish blog: "A crear se dijo!"

and did you know that In Spain and Spanish speaking countries it is a ritual on New year's eve to eat twelve grapes at midnight and have 12 sprigs of wheat inserted on a glass of rice, sugar and some coins?
The tradition is meant to secure twelve happy months in the coming year with food, money and prosperity

"Amate" Paper Card featuring Imagine Crafts Products

Hello Dear Memory Box Fans:

Here Bibiana....with an "Amate paper card"!

Memory Box, all through this week at the 3 blogs,

is featuring  "Imagine Crafts Products" ....

Here is my take...

a TUTORIAL on how to make

a "Faux - Amate" paper card

using "Memory Box" and "Imagine Crafts" products

Amate flower front

But Let's have 1st a word about "Imagine Crafts"...
It is difficult not to know "Imagine Crafts" products...you may be more familiar with the name "Tsukineko", "Imagine Crafts" is their "new" name...but they  carry the same products (inks and craft accessories) that we all know such as: "Stazon", "Versamark Ink", "Versacolor",  "Versafine", "Brilliance" and many many more...
They have added some great NEW ones, such as "Memento Luxe", "Delicata" inks and all the "Radiant Neon Pigment Inks" among many more...

Here are the supplies using Memory Box products along with some "Imagine Crafts" inks...

Amate flower supplies

If you want to check out my other takes for the language blogs:
I have 2 other projects made using both company products...

1- To see my "Tuscan, afternoon card"
go to the French blog: "Un brin de Créativité"

2- To see my "Acetate Ornament Snow globe card"
go to the Spanish blog: "A Crear se Dijo!"

As for my project here today,  to better understand my post, I have to talk ...

 1st,  about the Name:

what is "AMATE"?

"Amate" is an adapted word used in Spanish from the Nahuatl language (from the Aztecs). It is a form of paper that it has being produced in Mexico since the Pre-Hispanic times. It was and still IS handmade by the "Otomi" indians of Mexico. Back in the Pre-Columbian times  these were used to paint codices depicting stories, events or astrology.
Nowadays we can purchased them in any craft market in Mexico and they depict colorful nature scenes.

Here is one that I have ...

Amate painting front

The paper is made from the bark of the fig tree giving unique shades of color and pattern to each sheet...see detail below...

Amate painting detail

and this frame made with "Amate" paper

was the inspiration for my card and for this tutorial...

How to make "Faux-Amate" paper...

Let's go step by step....

1- Take some brown wrapping paper, wet it, crumple it into a ball, open it, let it dry!

Amate flower step 1

2- Add "Memento inks" in "rich cocoa" and "desert sand" shades directly onto the paper
This is how it looks...

Amate flower step 2

3- Place and secure the "Memory Box- Bloom" stencil over it and sponge with "Inkblushers" sponges the "VersaColor" ink in "Lapislazuli" color
note: these inks are pigment, very juicy, vibrant and great for this technique!

Amate flower step 3

4- Wash the stencil as you will use it next...
In a tray, place it flat under the sink and brush it with a nailbrush using mild  hand soap.

Amate flower step 4

5- Dry the stencil by placing it flat inside a roll of paper towels...

Amate flower step 5

6- Place and secure back the "bloom stencil" and place inside the "Brilliant Peony". sponge the center with "Memento Luxe" in white using the "Inkblushers" sponges.

Amate flower step 6

7- Outline with a black marker the edges, doodle some designs as well...
and with white acrylic ink add dots

Amate flower step 7

8-Final look...

Amate flower step 9a

9- Add "faux" stitching with white acrylic paint and a pattern tracing wheel (used for "quilts") along the 4 edges

Amate flower step 9

10- Mount the final project on some cardstock...

Amate flower step 10

Here is how I store all my "VersaColor" cubes and "Memento" ink dew drops...

Amate flower orga inks

And here we are...

we have created a "faux-amate" project!

I hope you will give it a try

Bendi twist

I am showing you here today this card because, what is new, is that I did a

I am always happy to be able to transmit and share what I have learnt with all you followers out there...

The video was featured at "Splitcoaststampers" SCS, under their "tutorials" section, but you can find it as well on my peronnal YOU TUBE channel...

Enjoy it and I Hope to see many, many cards using this whymsical fold with MB dies!

NOTE: mail it in a box, if handed in person put it in a clear/acetate box (bought or made; search in You Tube for tutorials on how to make a box). OR mail it flat in a yellow office envelope 9x12, just fold one flap and insert a note explaining that the flaps need to be inserted in the notches and voilà!

A Spring Folding Screen!

Hello Dear Stamper Friends:

Here Bibiana,... I  am very happy to Welcome you for another post here at the English blog for Memory Box...

Today, I am bringing to you a "Folding Screen" card fold to cheer you up a bit this Spring season...taking into account all the "crazy" weather that is going on in some parts of the country...

Folding screen front
The fold in itself it is very easy to make, just fold in half a regular A2 card (4 1/4" X 5 1/2") and again in half each panel...

In this card I used several of the wonderful new dies from the Spring 2013 catalog.

For the top of each panel I just used the top portion of the "Victorian Frame Set" and the "Botanic Frame Set" was cut in half to decorate just the angles of each panel..using the extra little flower that comes in this set...

This season MB has released a set of  "Frame sets" which all come with 4 separate dies which makes them very versatile to use.

Folding screen center

On the center panels, the "Woven Basket" and the "Forest Snail" are just adorable. They pair very well and remind me so much of Spring...

This is a view of the card from the left side...

Folding screen left
Notice the tiny bows on each of the "Summer Kites"  and the minuscule white buds come from the "Flower Mound"...all these details make the difference...don't you think?

View of the "Folding Screen" closed...ready to put in an envelope and be sent to a dear friend

Folding screen 1st panel
I think, that for the back panel I should of write "BYE", Maybe next released we will have a pairing die for the "Hello Script" that would say "BYE",  just an idea...:)

Folding screen final

To browse the Spring 2013 catalog click HERE.

And finally, I would like to remind you all that MB has 3 blogs written in 3 different languages all of each featuring different cards for your inspiration..

So we invite you to come to ALL 3 blogs...

Remember you can use the Google translate tool if you are stuck in the language part...but the photo-inspiration cards speak by themselves...

if you have friends that would like to see a blog written in their native tongue,

spread the word...

We have The French blog: "Un Brin De Créativité" HERE and the Spanish one : "A Crear se Dijo!" HERE

I Hope to see you more often at those 2 other blogs...

For any question do not hesitate in contacting me, Bibiana,  I will be happy to answer any doubts that you may have...

Until a next time, here or over there...:)
