Gather an assortment of spring blossoms for a Mother's Day card and mix, match and layer them for dimension.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a slimline design for a stylish Mom - with casual upside-down Wooden Alpha W's instead of the proper M's.  We're using the new Birch Press Design Wispy Bloom Contour Layers for their pointy, contrasting look.

Blend salvaged patina and shaded lilac Distress Oxides on smooth white cardstock.  Add a light spritz of water and let the colors blend as they dry.  Cut it with the 2-¼" x 7-¼" Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.

Cut Ruffled Blooms from different shades of Lush Green and Fresh Aqua 6x6 sheets.  Cut some extra centers from Lush Green sheets.

Cut Layered Periwinkle from Vibrant Violet and Twilight Purple 6x6 sheets.

Cut the Birch Press Design Wispy Blooms Contour Layers from Twilight Purple sheets.  Cut the stems from a Lush Green sheet.

Cut the wide leaves from the Exquisite Leaf Set from a Lush Green sheet.  Trim the larger branch - we're using the 2 lower leaves here.

Attach the ink-blended rectangle - at a wonky angle - to a white slimline card (3-⅝" x 8-⅝"). Attach the leaves and the assembled flowers.

Diecut the letters from the turquoise Rainbow Reflections Mirror Pad 6x6.  Use the upside-down W's instead of the M's from the Wooden Alpha set for a casual look. Or use the more formal M.  Either way, the Wooden Alpha dies add great texture to the mirror cardstock.

Attach the yellow-gold Christmas Fairy Jewels.

This design works in a rainbow of color combos...try your favorites!  It would be nice with mirrored floral diecuts and/or leaves too.

If your Mom's card is already done - rotate the M's right-side-up to say "WOW". It would be great for a grad, a new hire or to celebrate a recent promotion or achievement.   Even a new flower garden!

Thanks for visiting - see you on Friday...

Nautical Birthday
by Trina Pham

70187DDC-D68E-4D3E-874C-D69274C404BF

Hello everyone.  I have a lot of birthdays coming up, so I am sharing a simple nautical birthday card today.

Started by creating the life preserver.  Used two Circle Basics dies to die cut a ring from white cardstock and another from Ocean Blue paper.  Used scissors to cut sections from the blue one and adhered them onto the white one.  The ropes were die cut from white paper, then light gray dye ink was applied to the edges with a detailed blender tool.  Assembled the life preserver, then added shading to it with a cool gray Copic marker.

B8137CD4-BB2B-4EE8-B86C-922668228D38

The background is Bristol paper embossed with the Waves 3D embossing folder.  I used the debossed side.  I also wanted the opening of the life preserver to be distinct from the waves background, so a circle was die cut from white woodgrain paper to back it.  The sentiment from Signature Greetings stamp set was white heat embossed onto black cardstock and fussy cut out before the card was assembled onto a white card base to finish.

Pretty straight forward.  Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful week.

Such a Good Friend
by Angie Cimbalo

Close

Hello and welcome! It's Angie here today with this plaid mini slimline card for a dear friend. I used a lot of different products today to create this card.

First of all I used the "Nested Globes" die set - 94532 to do some partial die-cutting. I ran card stock through my die cutting machine with the bottom cutting line of the globe hanging off the edge of the cutting plates so it wouldn't cut through the paper. Then I measured how long I wanted the oval panel to be to fit on my card front, and turned the die around the other way, again with the bottom flat side cutting line hanging off the edge of my cutting plates. This created my pretty oval shape for the focal point of my card and sentiment placement.

The leaves were actually made with the Pinpoint Leaf Plate 94381. I took white card stock and ran it through my die cutting machine with the pinpoint die, then added Distress Oxide Mermaid Lagoon ink direct from the pad on to the paper. That left little tiny white dots where all the pinpoints were. Next, I fussy cut out a few of the leaves and added them around the edges of my oval panel. I also cut a black mat in the same globe shape to help offset the white from the plaid a little better.

Here's a closer look at my card:

The paper for the main background on the card came from the Madris Blue and Purple Plaid paper pad PP1014. I used the Layered Star Flower dies 94612, to cut my flower from peach, pink and orange Vintage Pastel Mirror Card Stock FP1002, and added a Pastel Jewels to the center of the flower and scattered on the front of the card.

The sentiment is from the Friends and Family stamp set CL5276, stamped in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink.

Here's one last look at my card:

I hope you like my card for today, I had a lot of fun creating it! Be sure to come back to the Memory Box blog often to see the wonderful creations from our amazing design team!

Spring Flower Boutique Birthday Card
by Sara Cook

Hi everyone!  I have more flower shaping today using the flower dies released in February.  Today I have a card that can be used for birthday or a mother's day card.  I use the Memory Box colored paper to make coloring the flowers and leaves easier.  Also the shaping of these flowers are pretty simple with how the dies cut into the paper.

E291E7BC-E371-45AB-92A9-A9D6571C8CA3_1_201_a

Riverbank Large Layered Bloom Flower:

Die cut the Riverbank Large Layered Blooms from a light orange/pink card from the Berry Red paper pad 1 time.  Ink blend from the center out, half way, with VersaFine Clair Charming Pink then Clair Purple Delight.  Ink blend from the tip of the petal with VersaFine Clair Cheerful.  In between each ink blending I added ink to the flower center.  Shape the flower with an extra large stylist, on a foam mat, by pulling from the tip of the petal to the center on the front side of the die cut.  Turn the flower over and lightly push in the center. Us the same stylist on the back side of the flower center and roll it around.  Adhere the flower together, offsetting the petals.  Add the center of the flower with double sided foam tape to keep the shape.  To darken the center, tap watercolor markers around randomly.  I used Marvy Markers in black, dark brown, and dark green brown. I was trying to recreate my favorite color of African Daisies.  I pulled up a picture online to use as a reference to get the color and shaping just right.

Periwinkle Flowers:

Die cut the Layered Periwinkle from a medium Vibrant Violet paper paper pack. (I chose a color a few shades lighter then VersaFine Clair Purple Delight.) Ink blend from the center out, half way, with VersaFine Clair Purple Delight.  Use a white Posca pen and outline the tip of each petal white.  Shape the flower with an medium sized stylist, on a foam mat, by pulling from the tip of the petal to the center on the front side of the die cut.  Turn the flower over and lightly push in the center. Adhere the 2 smaller die cuts together, offsetting the petals.  I also pulled up a picture of the periwinkle online to use as a reference to get the color and shaping just right.

Leaves:

Die cut the Exquisite Leaf Set out of a medium green paper from the Lush Green pad 3 times.  Ink blend the larger leaves with VersaFine Clair Cheerful from the tips to the center, then fold the leaf in half and color the center.  Then ink blend the stem with VersaFine Clair Shady Lane.  Ink blend the smaller leaves with the same technique using VersaFine Clair Green Oasis.

EFE33927-925F-4359-ABE6-9D49EC89D49F

Sentiment:

Die cut Happy Birthday Posh Scrip die bottom from the orange/pink Vintage Pastel Mirror paper pad and the top from the same paper as the Riverbank flower die from the Berry Red paper pad.  Ink blend the Berry Red paper with VersaFine Clair Purple Delight before die cutting.  Adhere together.

Assembly:

Use a white 5" x 7" card base and adhere a 4 3/4" x 6 3/4" light blue panel on top. Arrange the flowers on the left hand side focusing mainly in the lower corner.  Adhere some of the leaves with foam tape to give more dimension.  Add Treasure Chest Fairy Gemstones to the center of the Periwinkle flowers, yellow for the large and purple to the small. Adhere the sentiment in the upper right hand corner.

Scattered Blossoms by Jean Okimoto

P1015300 3

Here's a spring card for a Mom - or anyone - who loves flowers and hearts.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a scattered flowers slimline design combining Memory Box and Poppystamps blossoms on a Madras Plaid background.

P1015367

Cut Hex Half Pinpoint from a Madras Plaid Coral and Green 6x6.  Cut the second-largest Double Stitch Happy Heart Cut Out from the pale peach Delicate Pastels Glitter Pad 6x6.  The double stitches are an outline surrounding the heart - we're using just the inside heart here.

Cut Layered Cosmos twice from the Berry Red Collection 6x6.  Assemble the flowers.

Cut the Poppystamps Potpourri Flower Set from the Berry Red 6x6 and the pale peach Vintage Pastel Mirror Pad 6x6.

P1015339

Prepare a pale green speckled recycled cardstock slimline card (3-½" x 8-½").  Attach the top edges, sides and bottom of the plaid Hex Half to the card.  Tuck the tip of the heart behind the Hex Half.  Attach the flowers.

Add green Christmas Fairy Jewels for sparkly accents.

Two Hex Halfs (halves?) create a mirror-image hexagon window - but it's a great single die for pockets too.  You can even tuck a giftcard into it for Mother's Day, or any occasion.  Hope your gardens are beginning to bloom and provide a source of inspiration for your cards!

Thanks for visiting the blog - see you in May!

Blooms for Mom
by Trina Pham

EB3DA926-1F4A-4649-8E50-473CBB3CB411

Hello everyone.  Mother’s Day is celebrated at different times of the year all over the world.  With my Mother’s Day in two weeks, I have a Mother’s Day card I created for my mother-in-law to share today.  It features the Riverbank Large Layered Blooms and Exquisite Leaf Set dies from the recent Spring release.

Because I wanted these large blooms to all fit on the card without crowding or hanging off-the-edge, this card is A6 size.  The card base and a layering piece are 4.5”x6.25” cut from heavy-weight white paper.  Using the partial die cutting technique with a long and narrow extended cutting pad, ran the layering piece through the die cutting machine twice with the Slim Pinpoint Heart Plate resulting in this.

E6AE9664-8E6A-40DB-AFAC-D149F9BBD6CA

Down the middle was a mess, but it didn’t matter as most of it will be covered up anyway.  For some texture, splattered it with diluted black gouache paint, then set aside to dry.

4D8908A8-80C8-4CA9-9846-486A42F01F4A

The flower layers and leaves were die cut next from white cardstock.  The leaves and flower centers were colored with Copic Sketch markers.

greens - YG61, YG63, YG67
white centers - C00, C1, C3

Ink blending with distress inks (DI) was used to color the flower layers.  Shaded Lilac DI was applied to the middle circumference area of each layer using a blender brush, while Villainous Potion DI was applied to the centers with a finger brush before putting them together.

A694E82D-78B3-4F27-A6A9-229FFB2713EE

“Mom” was die cut from white glitter paper using the shadow dies of the Bennett Alphabet die set for a chunkier greeting.  Glued the letters onto a 1” Twilight Purple paper strip, then added the drop shadow with a C3 Copic Sketch marker.  Assembled the card, popping the bottom right flower up with foam adhesives for additional dimension.  Applied clear shimmer on the flowers for more sparkle to finish.

And that does it for my card.  Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful day.

Recycled Background Earth Day Greetings by Jean Okimoto

P1015244

Let's build a background of recycled scraps and create a card to celebrate Earth Day.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here using Lush Green Collection scraps from my stash to fill the Jumbled Line Collage.  It made just a teeny tiny dent in my big stack of scraps - but I feel so resourceful and earth-friendly.

P1015198

Attach a strip of doublestick tape to printer paper.  Cut assorted 3/4" strips of the Lush Green Collection 6x6's.  Attach them to the paper - we're using paper so it won't be too bulky.

Cut white cardstock with the largest Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die.  Cut the rectangle with Jumbled Line Collage.  Lay the collage over the strips before adding any adhesive.  Trim the edges of the paper to fit behind the collage, then attach it behind the collage.  Attach the rectangle to a slimline card (3-5/8" x 8-1/2").

P1015282

Cut different shades of yellow 6x6's from the Sunny Orange Collection with the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral and Layered Fresh Flowers dies.  Assemble the flowers -  mix and match the blossoms and the centers. Use a center from the Layered Fresh Flowers set for the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral.

Cut the solid leaves - from the Gentle Blossom Watercolor Floral set - from a sheet Lush Green sheet.  Press a scrap of the same green onto a VersaMark inkpad.  Heat-emboss the inked area with detail clear powder.  Cut the detailed leaves from the embossed cardstock.  They'll be slightly darker and glossy to contrast with the solid background leaves.

Stamp the greeting from the Signature Greetings Clear Stamps and Dies Set on a yellow 6x6 with Onyx Black VersaFine.  Quickly heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.  Trim one end with the second-smallest Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die - then just cut the other end with a paper trimmer.

P1015209

Assemble the card - use foamdots for the greeting.  Add yellow Autumn Fairy Crystals.  Cut a slimline-sized piece of cardstock to protect the jewels and card front for mailing.

The coordinated colors of the Memory Box 6x6 Collections save time and simplify cardmaking with a 108 choices.  They match our 6x6 prints and plaids, glitter, foil and mirror cardstock too.

P1015264

Thanks for visiting - have a great weekend!

Happy Birthday
by Donna Sledzik

IMG_1552

Hello everyone!  Today I have a fun Birthday card for you using more new products from the 2022 Spring release.

I began by die cutting one of the Nested Globes from white cardstock and stenciling on top of it with Saltwater Taffy Distress Oxide ink.  Next, I lightly inked around the edge of the die cut with Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide ink.  I also used Hickory Smoke ink and a blending brush to add ink to a White Woodgrain cardstock panel.  This brings out the texture in the cardstock.  I glued my globe die cut to the paper and used foam tape to adhere it to a white card base.

IMG_1551 (1)

I die cut the large leaves from the Exquisite Leaf Set using white cardstock and inked them with Distress Oxide Inks.  I glued the leaves in place over the globe die cut and spattered the card with white and gray inks.

Next, I die cut the shadow from the Happy Birthday Posh Script die from Vellum and the words from gray cardstock.  I glued the words to the vellum, which I adhered to the card.

IMG_1550 (1)

To finish the card, I added some Clear Fairy Drops and that's it!

Thanks for stopping by today!

Ruffled Blooms and Exquisite Leaf Set by Jean Okimoto

P1015030 2

Send a fresh garden greeting with Ruffled Blooms and Exquisite Leaf Set layered over a trellis-y frame from Poppystamps.  Hi, Jean Okimoto  here with a spring design that's easy and versatile - just pick your favorite shades from our 6x6 Collections of 108 coordinating colors.

P1015186

Cut Ruffled Blooms from different colors in the Vibrant Violet Collection.  I wasn't sure which blossoms and colors I'd use - so I cut all 4 designs, then saved the extras for another day.  Attach the oval centers to the 3 largest flowers.  Color all of the centers using a small dauber or cotton swab and Sunflower Yellow Brilliance.  The resulting color varies when Sunflower Yellow is layered over the different shades of cardstock.

Cut the Exquisite Leaf Set pieces from the Lush Green Collection.

Cut white cardstock with the 2-¾" Square Basics die.  Adding a matching solid background helps the flowers stand out more.

Cut the Poppystamps Penelope Pinpoint Frame from white cardstock.  This versatile A2-sized die looks great layered over a contrasting card too.  I chose a larger card to add a greeting.

Stamp the greeting - from the Open  Studio Friends and Family Clear Stamp Set - on a Lush Green sheet with Shady Lane VersaFine Clair.  Dry the ink, then cut the greeting block with a 1-¼" Square Basics die.

P1015169

Attach the diecuts to a white A6 card (4-½" x 6-¼").  Add the purplish Autumn Fairy Crystals.  Cut an A6-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.

Thanks for visiting our blog...see you on Friday!

Torn Paper Backgrounds with Layered Star Flowers
by Anne Thompson

I've been studying Chinese collage works recently which use elements of torn paper to create backgrounds and images.  For the three cards I made for this post, I used torn paper to create backgrounds for the Layered Star Flowers all-occasion cards.

IMG_3643-ink

Card One

IMG_3640-ink

materials used

  • white notecard
  • scraps of light blue cardstock
  • medium green cardstock from LUSH GREEN COLLECTION SP1003
  • green plaid paper from MADRAS PLAID CORAL AND GREEN PP1013
  • VersaFine Clair Shady Lane ink to edge the torn papers
  • white pearl paper from VINTAGE PASTEL MIRROR PAD FP1002
  • LAYERED STAR FLOWERS 94612
  • AUTUMN FAIRY CRYSTALS CRY101
  • "For You" from SIGNATURE GREETINGS CL5272

IMG_3630-ink

to make this card

  • orient a white notecard so the fold is at the top
  • add a small strip of light blue cardstock at the top of the notecard...I let all of my paper strips go over the edges and trimmed the extra off once all of the strips were in place.
  • tear two strips of the medium green cardstock and three strips of a green plaid paper; use the Shady Lane VersaFine Clair ink to add color to the torn white edges
  • place the strips from top to bottom on the notecard, plaid-green-plaid-green-plaid
  • die cut three sets of the Layered Star Flowers blossoms from the white pearl paper and the leaves from the medium green cardstock; assemble them; add Fairy Crystals to the flower centers; add them to the card front
  • stamp "For You" on a scrap of light blue cardstock; tear around the lettering and ink the edges; add to the card

Card Two

IMG_3638-ink

materials used

  • white notecard, top-fold
  • papers from GARDEN FOLLY PP1005
  • LAYERED STAR FLOWERS 94612
  • AUTUMN FAIRY CRYSTALS CRY101

IMG_3638-ink

to make this card

  • top-fold white notecard
  • tear strips of papers from the GARDEN FOLLY PP1005 paper pad--I used the red one with the gold Xs, the gold honeycomb paper, the penmanship paper, the two shades of red leaves--add to the notecard from the top to the bottom--red-gold-red-gold-red-lined
  • cut two of the Layered Star Flowers from the Xed paper and the honeycomb paper; add Autumn Fairy Crystals CRY101 to the flower centers and to the centers of the Xs; add the flowers to the notecard

Card Three

IMG_3639-ink

materials used

  • white notecard, side-fold
  • light green cardstock from LUSH GREEN COLLECTION SP1003
  • plaid paper from SPRING PLAID SLIM PP101SS
  • flowered paper scrap from GARDEN FOLLY PP1005
  • LAYERED STAR FLOWERS 94612
  • WINTER FANTASY FAIRY GEMSTONES GEM102
  • PASTEL FAIRY JEWELS JWL002

IMG_3633-ink

to make this card

  • tear paper strips and add to the card front, top to bottom--solid, plaid, solid, flowers, solid, plaid, solid
  • die cut five flowers and three sets of stems; assemble and add to the card front
  • add the pale green Fairy Gemstones to the flower centers and the gold Fairy Jewels to the centers of the larger printed paper flowers

Tearing your paper scraps into strips is another way to use the bits that you have left from previous projects to add extra texture to a card.  Those scraps are often just the thing, too, for stamping a sentiment or for even die cutting a small image.  Try a torn paper background on one of your cards.

Happy Crafting!
