Mushroom Greetings
by Laura Fulcher

IMG_4548

Greetings friends! Happy Halloween! I hope you will forgive me for not posting a Halloween card today, but you are probably done looking for Halloween inspiration this year. Instead, I am sharing a generic fall card.

I don't know if you have seen the new Nutmeg Forest paper pack, but it is so cute! It is a pack of paper that transitions from fall into winter. It has mushrooms and leaves with oranges, yellows and purples and moves into winter with pine trees and greens and reds. This is what it looks like:

Nutmeg

There is also a Nutmeg plaid pack that coordinates:

Plaid

I was inspired to use mushroom paper from the pack and pair it with a diecut from the Mysterious Mushrooms die set. I also chose inspiration from the paper itself and matched my coloring of the die with one of the mushrooms on the card.

To make my card, I layered mushroom patterned paper at the bottom of my gray notecard. I cut the paper at an angle and the added an orange strip of paper along the angle. Next, I die cut my berries, flowers and mushroom from some Copic white paper (XPressIt paper).

For the flower buds, I colored the stem with a dark green Copic marker (YG95) and colored the base of the flowers with two shades of yellow markers (Y32 and Y35).

Next, I colored the berry branches with a brown marker (E77) and colored the berries with a light red marker (R02).

I took inspiration from the red mushroom on the patterned paper and selected colors that I thought matched. I colored my mushroom die with R02, R05, R17 and R39 markers for the cap. for the underneath of the mushroom cap, I used E17, E18 and E33. The mushroom stem used W1 and W3 markers. I spent more time with the mushroom colors because it was the focal point on my card.

To make the dots on the mushroom cap, I colored tiny little circles using a white Prismacolor pencil. It gave a soft white look to the dots. Next, I added some white gel pen dots to the centers of my pencil coloring to add a bit more of a vibrant/opaque white. I also added a few tiny white gel dots here and there on the mushroom cap. Here is a close up:

IMG_4550

The close up shows the two colors of white on the mushroom cap better.

To finish the card, I added a warm wishes black tab under my orange strip.

Thanks so much for stopping by today! I hope you have a Happy Halloween and everyone stays safe!

Peace Love and Joy
by Angie Cimbalo

1

Hello and welcome, it's Angie here with a wintery holiday card featuring products from the latest Yuletide and Winter Days releases.  Here's an up close look at my card:

Close

As you can see it has a lot going on, first the background is a tan piece of card stock, lightly inked in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink using the new "Narrow Tree Trunks Stencil Set" (88630) and then I used the new rub-ons called "Snowflake" to create a snowy background.  I then stamped the sentiment with Versafine Clair Pine Cone ink.  Here's an even closer look:

Med close

I cut the Snowy Log (94821) from dark brown card stock and then also from white for the snow and from Memory Box Kraft Woodgrain paper to be able to create the layers.  I inked the kraft paper with more Distress ink and then glued the 3 pieces together.  Next I worked on the 2 birds, "Wistful Sparrow" (94798) and "Sunlight Sparrow" (94837), cutting the dies from white card stock and coloring them with alcohol markers and gluing the pieces together.  Next I cut "Pine Branches" (94817) from dark green cardstock from the "Leafy" paper pack (SP1011).

I added the pine needles to the left side, popped the log up on foam tape at the bottom and popped both birds on top of the log.   To create more interested I added lots of white paint pen for more snow and some highlights, plus I added sparkle paste to the snow and around the card in different places.  I wish you could see it in real life, it's so sparkly.

Here's one last look:

I hope you like my card for today, I had a lot of fun creating it!  Be sure to come back each day to see more inspiration from the team.  Thanks for stopping by and happy crafting!

Acetate and Rub-On Snowglobe
by Laura Fulcher

5

Greetings friends. I was inspired by Memory Box's new Snowflake rub-ons, and thought they would pair really well with the Holiday Snowglobe die. Let me walk you through the steps I used for the card.

First, I rubbed the rub-ons onto a piece of acetate. I placed the circle die on top so that I could get an idea of how big of an area I needed to transfer the snowflakes onto the acetate:

1

Next, I removed the rub-on backing and die-cut a circle out of my snowflake acetate using the die from the snowglobe set:

2

I cut out a blue circle with the same die and then added my birdhouse and bird to the blue circle. I sponged a bit of Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink onto the side of the birdhouse for a bit of dimension:

3

Anyone who has ever worked with acetate knows that you often worry about how to adhere the acetate to cardstock without seeing the tape of glue To adhere my snowflake circle over the blue circle, I put one dot of glue form a glue pen at the center of each of the snowflakes and then placed the acetate on top of my birdhouse scene.  I was pleasantly surprised that the glue blended really well and that I didn't need to add a ton of glue to stick the two pieces together:

4

All that was left was to add my base and some holly from the same die set. I did cut out holly berries using a standard hole punch. As a finishing touch, I added one of the new holiday tabs to the base of the snowglobe with my message.

It is hard to tell from the final photo, but I layered the snowglobe onto some cream woodgrain paper. I liked the extra texture for the background.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

A Frame House
by Theary Chea

Hello and welcome back! It's Theary here on the blog today. For today's project, I’m excited to share a card I created using the adorable A Frame House dies.

MB Cabin1

I drew inspiration from the colors and patterns in the Nutmeg Forest Paperpad and the Nutmeg Plaid Paperpad. I love how much everything coordinated so well together.

I started by die-cutting the A Frame House and Mysterious Mushrooms from the paperpads. I added a few neutral color cardstock to help balance out the colors.

MB Cabin2

To create the background, I layered a few different cardstocks to help with texture and dimension. The bottom layer is a sheet from the Nutmeg Plaid trimmed to 4.25 inches by 5.50 inches. The Second layer is a gold sheet of vellum trimmed to 3.50 inches by 5.50 inches, and the third sheet is our Woodgrain Cream Cardstock trimmed down to 3.25 inches by 5.50 inches.

MB Cabin1

I adhered the Slender Pine Trees onto the card panel first with liquid adhesive. Then using foam squares I popped the A Frame House and Mysterious Mushrooms.

I also adhered a White Gold Tab sentiment.

And, That's it! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and have some time to play around in your craft space.

Until next time!

A Decorated Yule Log
by Anne Thompson

I have another SNOWY LOG 94821 card, this one decorated sort of like a Yule Log using the MYSTERIOUS MUSHROOMS 94818 and WREATH SPRIGS 94814.

IMG_4467 (1)

to make this card

I started with a side fold A2 white note card and added a piece of plaid paper from NUTMEG PLAID PP1033 trimmed to 5 1/4 X 4.

Then I die cut all of the images I wanted to use.  I cut the WREATH SPRIGS 94814 twice from the new CILANTRO CARD STOCK SH44007.

IMG_4459 (1)

I cut the MYSTERIOUS MUSHROOMS 94818 from watercolor paper, from one of the NUTMEG PLAID PP1033 papers, and from the gold-dotted paper in the NUTMEG FOREST PP1034 paper pad.

IMG_4458 (1)
I cut the SNOWY LOG 94821 from a scrap of brown card stock and cut it again using watercolor paper for the snowy piece.

IMG_4460 (1)
I added the log to the note card front, adhering the bottom layer flat to the card first.  I used narrow double-sided tape on the top and bottom edges of the top piece of the log and two large dimensional foam squares in the middle.  When I added that piece on top it gave me the curved log I wanted.  I then used more of the double-sided tape to add the snowy layer.

0-2 (1)

Next I assembled the mushrooms.  I used VersaFine Clair Morning Mist (gray) ink to add to the underside mushroom pieces and the stems.  I chose to use the gold-dotted pieces for the mushroom caps.

0-1 (1)

To decorate the Yule Log, I added the mushrooms first, then tucked in a few of the Wreath Sprigs before adding some red CHRISTMAS FAIRY CRYSTALS CRY102 for berries.

IMG_4465 (1)

To finish the card I chose one of the sentiment strips--HAPPY HOLIDAYS--from GREETING TABS ST018.

And here's a closeup of the finished card front.

Snowy Birdhouse Bird Bunch
by Trina Pham

IMG_7755

Hello everyone.  I have a snowy scene Christmas card to share today featuring several products from the current 2024 Winter Days release.

A subtle background was created with the stencil monoprint technique using the middle stencil from Narrow Tree Trunks stencil set.  Applied Weathered Wood and Stormy Sky distress inks (DI) direct-to-stencil, spritzed it with water then flipped it over onto watercolor paper.  Blot excess water with a paper towel.

IMG_7754

The birds and birdhouse were then die cut from white paper and ink blended with various dye inks using blending brushes.  Did a search for winter birds to help with colors.  Added eyes to them with a black marker.  The red in the birdhouse was die cut from the new Cranberry paper.  These new papers are absolutely beautiful, btw.  And for some sparkle, the snow on the roof was die cut from white glitter paper.

IMG_7756

Drew a wire line with a black marker.  Adhered the elements onto the panel to create the scene and splattered with diluted white gouache paint for falling snow.  Mounted the panel onto a white card base and finished with a greeting from Holiday Wishes Foil Greetings White Tabs.

IMG_7757

That does it for my card.  Thank you for joining me today.  Have a wonderful weekend.

Greet the holidays with gift-giving geese from our Winter Days Collection.  Hi, Jean here with a few repurposed and combined designs from our holiday and classic collections.

Create a simple, contemporary Christmas tree using the Fringed Scalloped Frame Set and embroidery floss.  Turn a flower from the Stitchable Mitten set into a tree topper with a Glitzy Glitter Pad 6x6. The Classy Goose's Santa Hat becomes a cozy plaid stocking cap without the white pouf.

Cut the 2-⅝" wide Fringed Scalloped Frame from a medium-green Greenery 6x6.  Stitch a tall triangle and a base with bright green embroidery floss.  Cut the gold Glitzy Glitter Pad 6x6 with the 6-petaled flower from the Stitchable Mitten.

Attach adhesive label paper (or a sticker sheet) to red and soft-white wool-blend felt.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and prevents adhesives from saturating it.  Cut the Classy Goose and Young Goose.  Cut the Young Goose's earmuffs and scarf.

Cut the beak and feet pieces from a dark orange Sunrise 6x6.  Use a black marker to color eye areas.

Cut  the Classy Goose's scarf and hat from a red and gold Nutmeg Plaid 6x6.

Cut the Pretty Presents giftboxes from bright dark green 6x6s in the Greenery Collection.  Cut the bows from a Glitzy Glitter Pad 6x6.

Assemble the geese and gifts then attach everything to a natural A6 card (4-½" x 6-¼").

Thanks for visiting our blog.  Hope our Design Team's ideas are inspiring you to create unique cards for the holidays!

Using Watercolor Scraps
by Laura Fulcher

IMG_4546

Greetings friends. Today I want to talk about something I do when I work with watercolor paint. When I watercolor something, I keep blank pieces of watercolor paper next to me that I use to help clean my brushes. I don't think about what colors are used or how the finished piece will look. I am often really structured in how I do things (items placed straight and in the center for example). Doing this method allows me to end up with truly abstract pieces of color that look something like this:

IMG_4542
Sometimes I really hate the finished piece. Sometimes I end up with pieces that are great for diecutting the "good" sections. With this piece, I thought there was enough "good" parts that I could trim it down and use it as a background layer for the card. I then chose some of the new Memory Box papers that matched.

When I die cut my three trees, I cut them out of the Memory Box Leaf Sprout paper and then edged the left sides of the trees with Distress Oxide Lucky Clover and Peeled Paint ink. I wish I had added a lot more ink because as the ink dried, the shading wasn't as noticeable. To finish the card, I added an assortment of jewels and a Memory Box Christmas banner:

What about you? In your crafting, do you purposely create your own scraps?

Thanks for stopping by today!

The new Snowy Log - from our Winter Days Collection - becomes a leafy log with a fall print from the Nutmeg Forest 6x6 set.  Gold-specked Mysterious Mushrooms surround the popular Haunting Ghosts from the Fall Cornucopia Collection.  Hi, Jean here with a mix of dies from our fall and winter releases - taking advantage of how easy it is to mix design elements from Memory Box!

I didn't forget to adhere the sides of the background rectangle  - they're foam-taped for extra lift and shadows.  Really!

Cut Snowy Log from two shades of dark brown cardstock.  Match the woodgrain layer with the dark brown background of the Nutmeg Forest 6x6 leaf print - so the snowy layer resembles leaves falling on the log.

Cut Mysterious Mushrooms from the gold-specked Nutmeg Forest 6x6 and two shades of earthy reds from the Blush 6x6 set.  I cut the mushroom caps twice and chose diecuts with a good distribution of gold specks.

Cut Haunting Ghosts from watercolor paper.  Attach scraps of black cardstock behind the eye cutouts.

Stamp part of the greeting - from the new Magical Halloween Clear Stamp and Die Set - on orange cardstock from the Sunrise 6x6 set with Pinecone VersaFine Clair.  Quickly heat-emboss it with detail clear powder.  Trim the corners with a corner rounding punch.

Cut recycled Kraft cardstock with 2-½" x 7-½" Slim Basic Rectangle Layers die and trim the corners.

Attach the diecuts to a recycled Kraft slimline card (8-½" x 3-⅝").  Use foam tape for the rectangle's sides, the top of the ghosts and the 3 big mushroom caps.  Cut a slimline-sized piece of cardstock to protect the card front for mailing.
