Watercolor and Copic Florals
by Laura Fulcher

Greetings friends. Today I want to share a card I made with a quick and easy watercolor background as well as some die cut poppies I colored with Copic markers.

To make the background, I started with some Memory Box watercolor paper, an acrylic block and some Distress Inks. I inked up the acrylic block with blues and greens to give the impression of sky and ground, spritzed the block with water and then gently placed it onto my watercolor paper.

Hint...it is a really good idea to let the block sit for a bit on the paper so that the paint has a chance to absorb into the paper and you won't get ink splatters everywhere.

One thing I learned the hard way is that if you have an acrylic block with a grid and use that side for your ink, the grid will actually transfer onto the paper. I didn't realize this would happen because I couldn't feel the grid with my finger. Here are the two backgrounds I created. The one with the grid is on the left side and the one using the smooth side of the block is on the right:

I will save the grid background for another project.

For my poppies, I used the picture on the die package as a guideline for colors and shading. I didn't use the picture exactly, but it was a great inspirational piece:

The Copic markers I chose for the petals were R20, R35 and R46. For the leaves, I used G24, G14 and YG05.

To finish the card, I layered everything onto an embossed background. I purposely left the card blank because I haven't decided what occasion I will use for the card.

Have a fantastic weekend!
