Cactus Watercolor
by Laura Fulcher

Greetings friends. Today I wanted to share a card I made using the Flowering Cactus stamp/dies. It actually ended up being a really quick card because I let my paints just blend into each other and let them do the coloring. You could finish the card by adding extra details with colored pencils, but I was pleased with the end result.

For my background, I spritzed some watercolor paper with water, added some paint to the top and then tilted the paper to let the paint run to the bottom. This is what it looked like:

Usually I do this technique when I want the bottom of the paper lighter so that I can stamp a sentiment. However, for this card, I covered most of it with my cactus.

To color the image, I first stamped it onto some 140lb Memory Box watercolor paper in black versafine ink. The Memory Box watercolor paper is nice because it is really smooth on one side, which makes stamping on it a lot easier.  Next, I painted my plants by adding a bit of watercolor paint at the base of each petal and then worked my way outward so that the paint would be lighter at the tips of the petals. I usually use a thicker paint at the base and then add more water to the paint as I reach the edges to give it a more translucent look.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!
