Greetings friends. Today I want to talk about incorporating the new 80 lb 8 1/2" x 11" woodgrain papers into your cardmaking. The papers come in white, cream, and kraft and have a woodgrain embossed texture on them. They take inks really well, but I decided to use sprays with my white paper.
This is what a close up of the woodgrain ridges:
I had thought about going the tradition route and coloring my paper with browns or greys, but I thought I would make an underwater scene that would have some interesting texture. When I sprayed my paper with a combination of Distress and Dylusions sprays in light blue, dark blue and green. This was the result:
Both sprays are reactive to water, so allowed the ink to dry a bit and then spritzed it with some plain water to give the impression of bubbles. I liked the combined effect of the splotches and the texture of the paper:
To finish the card, I cut out the solid paper of my nautilus with cream shimmer paper and then added the top detailed layer out of brown cardstock. I must admit, I had to Google a nautilus to remind myself what colors to use. Memory Box has a fun clear set called "Oceanside Typewriter Sentiments" that would have worked really well with the card. I love puns! However, I decided to go with a more generic sentiment that can be used for a lot of different occasions. As a final step, I added a few clear rhinestones that reminded me of bubbles under the sea.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
