Happy weekend everyone. So in contrast to my last post with bright cheery rainbow colors, I am sharing a soft color palette card today featuring a super easy technique called embossed toilet paper. A year ago when the pandemic first started, I would have never dared to waste this hot commodity. 😂
To start, layers of toilet paper were spritz with water on each side and stacked on top of each other. Even though the toilet paper is 2-ply, it’s not very thick, so I ended up with 10 layers. The Gloriosa Butterfly Duo Background die was then used to die cut two butterflies from it.
Next, placed the butterflies into the Chrysanthemum Field 3D embossing folder and ran it through my die cutting machine according to the machine’s recommendations. Set them aside to dry completely, resulting in something similar to handmade paper.
I’ve only seen this technique used as backgrounds, but I modified it to create card elements. Here’s a large background piece that shows the handmade characteristics better.
To complete my card, the Twiggy Hugs was die cut from black cardstock and three times from Bristol paper. Ink blended the top layer with Wilted Violet and Milled Lavender distress inks (DI), then heat embossed it with clear embossing powder for some shine. Stacked them for dimension.
The Pinpoint Leaf Plate was then die cut from Bristol paper. Ink smooshed Wilted Violet DI and added black splatters in the bottom right corner before assembling the card to finish. I wished I didn’t add Milled Lavender DI to the top butterfly.
And that does it for me. Thank you for joining me. Have a wonderful weekend.

This is so pretty, Trina. I love how well toilet paper embosses. The pinpoint background is lovely and I like the Milled Lavender on the butterfly.

Awesome technique. The embossed toilet paper looks like porcelain. I have a source for getting junk TP (probably 1 ply) to give this technique a try. Thanks for the cool inspiration.

What a great idea to use the embossed toilet paper technique to create die cut elements for your card - the butterflies are fabulous. And I love your background piece that you showed - looking forward to seeing it turned into a card.

It really does look like handmade paper and creates deep embossing. Such beautiful butterflies Trina! Love the card design with the embossed background and large glossy hugs. Layering the butterlies gives them so much wonderful dimension. I like the soft colouring you added to the top butterfly. Thanks again for a wonderful tutorial!
