Happy new year everyone!  Did you enjoy the Valentine blog blitz this past week?  You still have until tomorrow, January 10 at 11:59 pm EST, to leave a comment on any of the posts for your chance to win the corresponding giveaway.  Today I’m using the Woodgrain Heart die again, which you can win from Michelle’s post yesterday, to create a masculine love card.  Because this die is solid, it was perfect for one of my favourite double embossing techniques using a die and an embossing folder (EF).

Started by opening the Gracious Leaves 3D EF.  Adhered the Woodgrain Heart die with cutting edge facing up onto the flat side of the EF.

Secured a piece of mixed media paper over top with temporary adhesive.  This is the die/EF setup for the technique.

Placed an embossing mat then cutting plate on top and ran it through my die cutting machine according to its recommendation.  For a good impression, I ended up adding a couple of shims. Having secured the paper with temporary adhesive in the previous step allows for multiple run throughs.  This is what resulted.

As you can see, the patterns of both die and EF are now dry embossed onto one piece.  Important things to note about this technique: 1. die must be solid 2. heavy thick paper or cardstock works best 3. do not close the EF.

To complete the card, the heart was die cut from masking paper and the negative cut piece was used as a stencil.  Blended two shades of brown dye inks to colour the woodgrain heart.  The sentiment was die cut twice from white cardstock and once from dark brown and stacked for dimension.  The butterfly was die cut from white Polished Foil paper and popped up with mounting tape.  Crystal glaze was added to the sentiment for more shine to finish.

And that does it for today.  Thank you for joining me.  Have a wonderful weekend.
