Happy Saturday! As the expression goes, it’s Christmas in July and I am sharing a Christmas card today. I saw this video from Laura Fadora using thin frame dies to create backgrounds / patterns. I thought of giving it a try with regular nesting dies (since I already have them), but kept forgetting. So when thin frame dies popped up lately (Jennifer McGuire has a couple of videos here and here), I thought it was time.
My card is quite simple. I chose to use my least used Square Basics nesting dies and started by aligning them all on temporary tape.
Picked up the whole thing and used it to dry emboss a piece of Bristol paper. Follow your machine’s recommendations for this.
Used it again, but this time to die cut from regular white cardstock.
I don’t have much in the way of color cardstock, and by die cutting from white, I can color the sections I need with my Copic Sketch markers. Matched and adhered the coloured frames over the dry embossed background.
To complete the card, the Drop Nativity was die cut three times from black cardstock and stacked for dimension. Removed unwanted parts with scissors and cut a flat bottom edge with my paper trimmer. The Chesshire Peace was die cut from blue glitter paper from the Delicate Pastel Glitter pad and also from black cardstock and offset for a shadow. Assembled the card to finish.
This is a great way to stretch your nesting dies. Thank you for joining me today. Have a wonderful weekend.
Supplies
What a creative and stunning card. The dry embossing and the die cutting of those nesting dies look amazing. Vibrant and fabulous colours and I like how you only used part of the nativity die x. Wonderful inspiration, thank you Trina x

I love the wonderful coloured frames going through the blues of the night sky down to the golden glow of the Christmas star - a wonderful effect, especially with the embossed squares behind it all.

This is awesome, Trina! Wonderful way to use the nesting dies. Coloring the frames and adding to the white base is a creative solution. I love how you arranged the colored frames and made the glow around the nativity silhouette.
