Hanukkah Gift Tags by Anne Thompson

Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday which celebrates the victory of the Maccabees over the larger Syrian army. It also celebrates a miracle that happened during this time, where just a day's supply of oil allowed the menorah in the rededicated Temple in Jerusalem to remain lit for eight days.  --Wikipedia

Hanukkah this year began at sunset on Sunday December 22nd and the first candle was lit on the menorah.  Families celebrate by lighting one candle the first night, two on the second and so forth during the eight days of Hanukkah.  They recite prayers, sing songs, children play a game with dreidels (a spinning four-sided top), and gifts are exchanged.  And there's chocolate (gelt) and latkes and other delicious foods.

For today's post I made eight Hanukkah tags, four using blue foiled cardstock and four with silver glitter papers.

I chose a variety of Memory Box dies and large white cardstock pre-cut tags.

Let's look at the blue ones first.  I used Hero Arts Cornflower blue ink direct-to-paper around the edges of each tag and a narrow navy blue grosgrain ribbon tied in a bow through the hole.  I also added some small pearls in the snowflake centers and for berries on the holly sprig.

For the silver ones I inked the edges direct-to-paper using Memento Teal ink and I tied on silver glitter ribbon.  I used a few large silver "buttons" in the snowflake centers on one.  And I added some silver glitter poinsettias on foam dots (pre-made stickers I found in my holiday box) on two others.

Still need tags for your holiday gifts?  These tags (also appropriate for Winter Solstice, Christmas, New Year's, winter birthdays, and many other occasions) went together quickly, cutting multiple dies at one time on the foiled and glittered papers.  I think I spent more time looking at all of my dies and deciding which ones to use than in the actual making of the tags.
