Drop Nativity with Gilded Drop by Vicki Finger

Hello there!  I'm Vicki Finger, the newest member of the Memory Box Design Team.  I am so excited to join the team!  You may already know me from my blog, Twinkling Paper Studio or my Instagram account @vicki.finger.

While I was waiting for my supplies to arrive from Memory Box, I pulled the dies that I already had and created a couple of projects to share with you.  This card features a couple of new products from their most recent release.  I decided to show you this card first because I actually remembered to take a few process photos for you.  That will take a few times for me to remember!

I started by selecting the dies I wanted to use for this card.  I love the simple Nativity image from Drop Nativity and wanted to pair it up with the Gilded Drop.  I also knew I wanted to use a frame, so I chose the Hanging Lantern Frame from a previous release because it would provide me with the opportunity to use some jewels on my card which, if you've been here before, you know I love.

It was important to figure out first, which color would go in which order.  It's the same principle as masking if it helps you to think of it that way.  In other words, what do you want to be the very front image?  I started by cutting a white cardstock Drop Nativity and one in Gold.  Next, I cut the Hanging Lantern Frame from some Stardream Lagoon Shimmer Cardstock.  I also cut the Gilded Drop from Gold Cardstock.

Using a Blending Brush, I ink blended Hawaiian Shores Ink over the background of the die-cut.  Except for the blue background, this is basically serving as my base layer to attach all the other layers onto.  I used my Nuvo Shimmer Pen to add sparkle to the background. Once that dried, I started assembling my card.  I added the gold gilded drop directly to the whole die-cut using Ranger Multi Medium Matte.  Next, I put the gold die-cut Drop Nativity on top of that and set it face down on my glass mat so that I could stack a few acrylic blocks on the top.

Once I had all the layers adhered for the focal point, I made a cardbase from Cougar Super Smooth Digital White Cardstock and added the frame from the Hanging Lantern Die to the card.

Using foam tape I added the assembled Drop Nativity to the center of my frame.  I stamped the "Merry Christmas" Sentiment in Versamark and heat embossed it on a leftover piece of the Stardream Lagoon.  This happened to be the stamp that was already in my MISTI since I was waiting for my products to arrive.  I now have Memory Box Stamps to choose from for my sentiments, so you'll see those used in the future.

I added my favorite jewels to the Cross, the corners and to the sentiment strip and let them dry.  That finished off my card.  I think this is a beautiful, timeless design that will work for anyone who celebrates Christmas.  The foam tape really lets the focal point pop off the card. The shimmer on the blue background is really visible in the picture as well.

For my other project, I used Shimmer Gold Cardstock, Gold Foiled Cardstock, and Red Satin Cardstock with Hanging Lantern Frame Die and Ruffled Poinsettia Die. I did not remember to take process photos but I think you'll figure it out.

Lots of people ask me about all the gold foiled cardstock I use and I get it from different places.  Because I don't want to be limited in how much I use, I typically get it from Amazon.  This is the brand I usually purchase and they have other colors as well.  I am not an affiliate for Amazon.

Instead of jewels, I used pearls as accents on my card.  I love the Glossy Pearls from Little Things from Lucy's Cards and use Glossy Porcelain or Glossy Eggshell.

Offset Creepy Spiders by Laura Fulcher

Greetings friends.  I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!  Today I wanted to share a creepy Halloween card with you.  I am really hoping no one suffers from arachnophobia.  Or at least crafting arachnophobia.

To make the card, I started by offsetting the large oval die from the Spider Web Oval Frame set on some medium grey cardstock:

I then made a background with some Distress Oxide ink (Antique Linen, Fossilized Amber, Wild Honey, Seedless Preserves and Wilted Violet) ink:

I cut out another large oval using black cardstock, cut spiders from black cardstock and cut the web oval out of dark grey cardstock:

I glued my spiders onto the card and then added a bit of Wink of Stella to the web to make it sparkle.  I also drew a line from the web to a large spider so that it looked like it was hanging from the web.

Happy Halloween by Donna Sledzik

Hello everyone!

Today I have a Halloween card which uses many new products from the holiday release.

To make this card, I used black cardstock to die cut cut the house and fence from the Haunted Hill Oval Frame.  I also die cut the Petite Leaf Frame from black cardstock. I used vellum to die the ghosts.  

For the background of my card I used an acrylic painted piece of paper that I had saved from another project.

I glued the leaf frame to the painted background and trimmed it.  Then I glued several leaves back in place from my die cut.  Next I adhered the house, hill and ghost to the panel.  I spattered the panel with gold ink.

I glued an orange and striped piece of paper to a white cardbase and spattered it with black ink. Next I glued my die cut panel to the card front using foam tape.  

To finish the card, I stamped "Happy Halloween" on the card front.

Glittered Gilded Angel in a Stylish Frame by Jean Okimoto

The delicate new Gilded Angel and Gilded Angel Background create a glittery focal point for the Stylish Frame Trio.  Add a greeting and a background from the Typewriter Holiday Elements Clear Stamps to finish it off.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a Christmas card in frosty winter pastels.

Attach Couture Creations double-stick tape to the smoother side of Romance cardstock.  Cut it with the Gilded Angel Background.  

Scrunch waxed paper into a loose wad and rub it briskly over the Gilded Angel die to help release the little pieces and delicate outline after cutting.   Cut Gilded Angel from watercolor paper.

Attach the detailed angel to the adhesive-covered background angel.  Brush ultrafine iridescent glitter onto the exposed adhesive.

Cut the small circle frame from the Stylish Frame Trio from silver glittered cardstock.

Stamp the large text background from the Typewriter Holiday Elements on smooth white cardstock with Starlite Black Brilliance.  Dry the ink, then cut the text with the largest Stylish Frame Trio die. Save both the inner circle and the delicate rings.  

Stamp "noel" - from the Typewriter Holiday Elements -  on the smoother side of Romance cardstock.

Cut accent strips from Limeade (¾" x 5"), Patina (¾" x 4 ½") and Romance (¾" x 4").

Attach everything to a top-folded 5-½" square card - use foam dots for the greeting.  

Square cards require extra handling and postage...but I hope you'll try this design for the special people on your list!

Winter Tree Oval Frame and a Cool Cat by Jean Okimoto

Diecut - and emboss - the new Winter Tree Oval Frame for fall. The diecut creates a bright backdrop for the Cool Cat and the embossed swirlies add a creepy, mysterious look.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a Halloween design featuring a frame set that's quickly becoming a new favorite.

Cut the tree oval from dark brown cardstock.  Cut the outer frame from dark kraft cardstock that matches the top-folded A-2 card.

Cut a watercolor paper moon with the ¾" Circle Basics die.  Cut Cool Cat from black glittered craft foam.

Paint watercolor paper with watery, overlapping layers of Kaleidacolor dye ink refills.  Dry the inks.  Diecut it with the outer frame - we're using just the inner oval here.  

Pressure-emboss it with the tree oval.

Cut accent strips of black cardstock (¾" x 5") and crushed bronze paper (¾" x 3-¾").

Assemble the card and add gold gem stickers.

Enjoy the versatility of the Winter Tree Oval Frame - and think of all the ways you can use the tree oval and outer frame for fall and winter cards.  Scatter a few maple leaves below it  - and have some swirling around in the background too.  When winter arrives - diecut it from frosty white glittered cardstock and replace the leaves with swirling snowflakes.

Hello there.  I have (surprise, surprise) another Christmas card to share today.  I love Christmas, but you probably can’t tell. 😂  So last month at a crafty get together, we played with alcohol inks (AI).  Instead of using yupo paper, we tried them on vellum! Not only did it work, it’s a more cost-effective alternative to yupo.  

It is best to use thick vellum.  The process is exactly the same as working with yupo, except more blending solution was needed to move the inks.  I also used a marker spritzer to blow air and assist in the ink movement.  To finish the snowy background, white gouache paint splatters were added.

To complete the card, started by die cutting the frame from Pine Tree Frame out of Bristol paper three times.  Took the three resulting inner rectangles and die cut them with the tree image.  Stacked the frames and trees for dimension.

Assembled the card onto a textured cardstock panel.  A frame was die cut from silver foil paper to go between the trees an outer frame.

The Peace Cheshire Script sentiment and the bird from Birds and Blossoms were die cut from blue foil paper to finish.  And with that, I wanted to remind you there is still time to enter our Framed challenge ending September 29 EST.  Thank you for stopping by.  Have a wonderful week.

Snowy Pine Needle Oval Frame and Pine Tree Hill by Anne Thompson

Living in Maine, the Pine Tree State, I was drawn to  both the PINE NEEDLE OVAL FRAME 94283 and the PINE TREE HILL 94295 for my winter and holiday cards.

I was trying to think of a way to put some snow on the die cut branches and its oval as well as on the pine trees.  Why not try VersaMark direct to the paper and heat set white embossing powder over it?  I tried it on the needles first.  And it worked! I got just what I was hoping for.  

And then I added a little bit to the oval.

Now to try the trees.  After die cutting the Pine Tree Hill, I left the die in place and pounced the VersaMark pad on top of the die to leave sticky stuff in the openings and around the base of the trees.  Those are the darker shiny spots you see in the photos below.

After carefully removing the die (and washing it with warm water and dish soap), I sprinkled on opaque white embossing powder and heat set it.

The next thing was to remove the die cut from the extra paper.  I used sharp scissors to cut from the edge to the slit by the trees on the left and right.  Then I trimmed the bottom edge straight using my paper trimmer.

I used foam tape along the base and the bottoms of the three trees and adhered this strip to a piece of blue dotted paper cut 4 X 5.25.  I snipped off the edges that overhung the paper.  Using a tape runner, I attached this panel to the front of a top-folded A2 notecard.

I chose "enjoy the beauty of the season" for the sentiment from the MISTLETOE SWAG Clear Stamps Set CL5247.  I stamped it in VersaMark on a scrap of the same green paper and embossed it with opaque white embossing powder.  I trimmed it down and adhered it on the card using foam tape.

Here's the finished card.

Now I just have to go back to the Pine Needle Oval Frame and make a card with that!

Happy Saturday! It's hard to believe that it's time to start thinking about Christmas cards but it will be here before we know it. Today I have a fun stamping technique using the Distress Oxide inks and one of the fabulous new stamps from the Holiday Collection.

I started by stamping my image using an ink that is water resistant on to Bristol paper. Just pick your favorite ink you like to use when watercoloring. Then once the image was dry, I covered my paper with Lucky Clover Distress Oxide ink. 

Next, I took a paint brush dipped in water and I painted over the inside of the leaves and berries in the mistletoe. When it is still wet, take a paper towel to dab off the water and it will reveal the oxide magic!

To add some sparkle, I used my Clear Wink of Stella glitter pen to color in the berries. I stamped a sentiment and then once everything was dry I glued the card together.

Hello everyone,

Today I have a card using a resist technique that I'm sure most of you are familiar with.  I stamped the leaf images several times on white cardstock using a Versa Mark Ink pad, and heat embossed it with white embossing powder.

I used blending brushes to apply Distress Ink across my cardstock, starting with my lightest color and working down to the darker colors.  

Once I was done applying the ink to my paper I took a dry paper towel and rubbed across the cardstock to remove any ink that might of stuck to the embossed image. It's so much fun to see the white embossed stand out after you apply the colored ink.

Next I stamped and white embossed the sentiment on a strip of black cardstock and used foam tape to adhere it to my card front.  I adhered my card front to a black cardstock mat and used foam tape to glue it to a white card base.

To finish the card, I added a button and twine.  That's it for today!

Add a Spooky Look to the Winter Tree Frame by Jean Okimoto

Add spooky special effects to the new Winter Tree Frame to create the perfect setting for some Friendly Ghosts.  It begins as a beautiful, delicate tree  - and we're adding some Black Soot ink to highlight the frame and branches and make it a bit scary.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a quick Halloween design for you.

Pressure-emboss Winter Tree Frame onto 140-lb Cold Press watercolor paper using the plates and embossing mat required for your machine.  Ink the raised areas using a pod applicator and Black Soot Distress Oxides.  These sturdy applicators look like freeze-dried marshmallows - and are great for inking the top layer of embossed designs.  They don't squish down into the unembossed area.   Dry the ink.

Place a sheet of printer paper - between the inked paper and the cutting plate - to prevent the transfer of ink.  Cut it with the Winter Tree Frame.  

Use the larger outer frame to cut a 3-¼" background square of black cardstock.  Attach it behind the Winter Tree Frame.

Cut Friendly Ghosts from watercolor paper.

Cut accents strips from green cardstock (¾" x 3-¼"), orange cardstock (¾" x 3-¾" and crushed copper paper (¾" x 5").  

Attach everything to a side-folded black A-2 card.  Add black sequins.

The beautiful Winter Tree Frame isn't just for winter or fall.  It's perfect throughout the year.  Begin with autumn leaves now, then drifting snowflakes for December, hearts in January, lovebirds in February, cherry blossoms in March - and on and on.
