Double Embossing with Dies
by Trina Pham

Hi there!  This is Trina and I am back to share another CAS card using the Bright Hearts die from the Valentine’s Collection and a die technique I’ve had on my to-try-list for probably over two years.  😂   Better late than never, right?  I’ve seen it done throughout blogland, but I believe it originated from Jennifer McGuire.  Here’s my card.

This is a super easy technique combining both dry and heat embossing with dies.  I found darker cardstock looked best.  Started by prepping the cardstock with an anti static bag and then setting it in my die cutting machine to be dry embossed.  Placed the die with the cutting edge facing up, then gently inked only the raised cutting edge with VersaMark.  Carefully picked up the die and flipped it onto the cardstock.  Ran it through the die cutting machine to dry emboss it, then added white embossing powder.

The embossing powder sticks to the VersaMark embossed lines.  Heat embossed to complete the technique.  Even after using the anti-static bag, I found the powder strayed quite a bit.  I simply used a small brush to remove them before applying the heat.

I wanted the image to stand out more, so I used a black Polychromos pencil to add some shading.  The sentiments from Best Life Typewriter stamp set were white heat embossed on hot pink cardstock and popped up with foam adhesive.  For some sparkle (wasn’t able to capture it in the photo), added clear shimmer to finish.

Essentially this is like “turning your dies into stamps” and is a great way to stretch your dies.  Thank you for stopping by.  Enjoy your day!

This is a lovely card, Trina. The heart die creates a wonderful embossing effect as a background image for your sweet sentiment. tfs

Great technique and the palette is lovely.

A very classy card, Trina! Love this technique but I've been hesitant to try it. Coloring the hearts with the black pencil really makes them pop with the white heat embossing! Fantastic card, my friend!

Fabulous technique for getting more out of your dies. And I love the subtle shading on the hearts and the hot pink for the sentiment pieces!

Very clever - looks brilliant, Jo x

This is so clever Trina. I have seen the double embossing before, but the shading you've added to the hearts takes it up at least 2 notches!! Brilliant! Love this simple but elegant design with this gorgeous colour combo of pink and gray! I've learned a lot. Thank you!

Thanks, Trina. I haven't yet tried this technique! This may be the time!

Trina, wow, your pencil work really makes the hearts pop :)

OMG..Trina, I LOVE your Double Embossing Technique with your heart die. Using the gray CS and White heat embossing was beautiful, but going a step farther by adding your pencil shading really made a difference. You are always so clever and creative with your CAS designs, my friend. TFS Hugs..Nancy

Thank you so much for this fabulous technique, which is new to me. I will be giving it a go as it looks so effective and as you say stretches your dies. Love the grey card stock with the white heat embossed hearts and the colouring with the pencils looks fantastic....As does the pop of vibrant pink. One stunning card x.

I love ideas like this which stretch my dies! Thanks for the fabulous inspiration and I love the extra depth the touch of coloring gave this!!

I can not find Memory Box dies anywhere. Where can the Bright Hearts be ordered from?

Wow, this is so stylish and pretty, Trina! I love it! Thanks so much for sharing this technique with us. The white heat-embossed outlines gave definition and your beautiful pencil coloring elevated the pretty hearts to a whole new level.
