Fall Gratitude
by Laura Fulcher

IMG_2103

Greetings friends.  The latest stamps from Memory Box have really inspired me to break out my watercolor paints.  For my card today, I used a mix of Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and some Peerless Watercolor paints.

I love to use Zig markers to outline images and then soften them with a waterbrush to fade to white.  Let me show you what I am talking about:

IMG_2099

Step one was to stamp my image onto 140lb coldpress watercolor paper with a black Versafine pad.  Allow the ink to dry completely.  Versafine will take quite a while to dry on watercolor paper.  Next, trace around your image with a light brown Zig marker.  Notice that I worked in small sections.  I outlined a small part of my image and then softened it with my waterbrush:

IMG_2100

I work in small sections because if you let your marker dry too much, it makes it more difficult to blend.  I continued the process of outlining and softening with the waterbrush until the whole image was outlined:

IMG_2101

It is important to allow your paint to dry completely before painting the leaves.  If the background is still wet, then the paint in the leaves will bleed out into the background.

I colored all of my leaves with red, orange and yellow Peerless watercolor paint.  You could use absolutely any watercolor paint you like.  I simply picked up my colors with a waterbrush and colored within the lines.

IMG_2105

Here is a closeup of the card to show you how I finished it.  I stamped a strip of paper and colored it exactly like my leaves in the circle.  To add a bit more depth to both card pieces, I edged the watercolor paper with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink and a sponge.  As a final touch, I took some watered down dark brown paint and splattered it onto my card to give it a splotchy look that I think matches well with a fall theme.

Thanks for stopping by today.  I hope you have a great weekend!

Grapevine Wreath with Bittersweet using one of the Stylish Frame Trio and Silverdale Branch
by Anne Thompson

When I saw the STYLISH FRAME TRIO 94308 and the SILVERDALE BRANCH 94306 next to each other on my desk, I wondered if I could create a grapevine wreath using the middle-sized frame and add bittersweet to it using the Silverdale Branch.  This was the end result.

IMG_1799

I actually started this card by working with the Silverdale Branch first.  I cut it from watercolor paper and used a variety of Distress inks in fall colors to paint it with a waterbrush.  I left it in the background to make it easier to paint.

IMG_1787

Once I removed it from the background I added more of the Crushed Olive ink along any white edges and added more of the Gathered Twigs ink on the berries.

IMG_1789

I cut the middle-sized frame from the Stylish Frame Trio set of dies three times using dark brown cardstock.

IMG_1791

Next I added papers to the front of a kraft notecard--Vanilla Bean Gingham and Vanilla Bean Distressed Dots.  Then I used a glue pen to stack the three dies, rotating each one a bit to give me that grapevine wreath look I was after.

IMG_1794

I adhered the painted Silverdale Branch to the card with foam dots, nestling it against the upper left inner edge of the frame.

IMG_1795

What do you think?  I love the look!  I papered the inside of the card with a panel of each of the patterned papers and lined the envelope as well.

IMG_1797

I may use this as a Thanksgiving card or for a fall birthday,  This would work well as a guy card, too.  And it works for this month's "Framed!" challenge.

The new Jovial Wreath is perfect for fall cards - it doesn't need to wait till Christmas.  Diecut it from watercolored paper and add a trio of Sketch Blooms  for a quick Thanksgiving card, birthday or thank-you card in fall colors.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a versatile design you can use throughout the year.  A quick color change would transform this into a holiday card with layered poinsettias and sparkly snowflake or star gem stickers.

Paint watercolor paper with diluted Kaleidacolor dye ink refills.  Heat-set the inks.  Cut it with Jovial Wreath and Sketch Blooms.

Cut dark green cardstock with Jovial Wreath and layer it behind the watercolored wreath for dimension.

Attach pieces of green glittered cardstock behind the flower centers.

Stamp the greeting - from the new Fern and Berries Clear Stamps Set - on a scrap of white cardstock with Sunshine VersaFine Clair.

Attach everything to a side-folded white A-2 card/  Add orange gem stickers.

Create holiday magic with the beautiful new Chandele Snowflake and layers of the Shining Star Set.  Two stars - one brushed with glitter - adhere and accent the delicate snowflake.  It's a happy day when glittering and attaching a detailed die can be accomplished in one easy step!

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with another quick-glittered design that would be great for mass-production.  Chose your favorite colors - winter pastels, jewel tones or tradtionals - or make personalized cards in the recipients' favorite holiday shades.

MemoryBoxChandeleSnowflake, MemoryBoxShiningStarSet, MemoryBoxPinpointRectangleLayers, MemoryBoxHolidayGreeneryClearStamps, JeanOkimoto, VersaMark, ImagineCrafts, SnowflakeCards, StarCards, GlitteredStars, GlitteredCards, SnowflakeCards, ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Cut the largest Shining Star from white cardstock.

Attach Diecut 'n Bond  tape to white cardstock and cut the second-largest Shining Star.

Scrunch some waxed paper and rub it briskly over the Chandele Snowflake die - this helps release the little bits and pieces from the die.  Cut the snowflake from white cardstock.  Save the offcut for another beautiful project.

Attach the snowflake to the adhesive-covered star - save the tape liner.  Use the tape liner as a presscloth to secure the detailed design.  Brush ultrafine iridescent glitter over the exposed adhesive.  Press it again with the liner.

Cut ¾" x 3-½" and 4" strips of Flintstone and Easter Grass cardstock.  Cut textured pink cardstock with the 2-⅛" x 3-⅝" Pinpoint Rectangle Layers die.

Prep a scrap of white cardstock with the embossing powder tool.  Stamp the greeting - from the new Holiday Greenery Clear Stamps Set - with VersaMark.  Emboss it with detail silver powder.  Trim it with the 1" x 2" Pinpoint Rectangles Layers die.

Attach everything to a white A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card.  Add pink gem stickers.

Special thanks to everyone from Monday's SIMPLY ASIAN class at Impress!  I appreciate how you braved the holiday traffic on ferries and freeways to join us.  Thanks too - Ann and Shari - for helping everyone fill those shopping baskets again.

Thanks for visiting - see you tomorrow...

Getting Ready for Fall

Fall1

Greetings friends.  Somehow summer passed in the blink of an eye and September arrived.  Have you started thinking about a new season of cardmaking?  In the new Holiday 2019 release, there are new dies as well as stamps to help inspire you.

For this first card, the Lovely Oak stencil was placed onto white cardstock before sponging the open areas with Fall colors of Distress Oxide ink.  Before removing the stencil, the leaves were splattered with some watered-down brown paint.  Finally, a sentiment was added inside one of the dies from the Stylish Frame Trio set.  We think you are really going to like this new trio of frames to help highlight your sentiments.

Fall2

Alcohol ink backgrounds are really popular right now.  Why not add some fall colors of alcohol ink to some Yupo paper and let the colors blend together as a backdrop for the Winter Tree frame?  Cutting out the frame using gold metallic paper really makes the die "pop."

Fall3

One of the new stamp sets has a lovely branch of leaves for coloring.  You can either stamp the image with waterproof ink before watercoloring or emboss your ink so that it is a bit easier for the paint to stay within the lines.

Fall4

Another example of stamping and watercoloring, but this time with the freedom of painting outside the lines.

Fall5

Hopefully you have been inspired to break out some fall colors to help greet this new crafting season!

Spider Web Oval Frame
by Melissa Rusk

Welcome to another day of our Holiday Release Blog Blitz! Today I have a fun Halloween card to share with you all.

IMG_0431

I used the Spider Web Oval Frame die set for this card. For the background oval I used three purple colors of Distress Oxide ink and blending them together with a blending brush. Then I added some black Distress Oxide ink around the outside before I sprayed the oval with water to get the fun oxide ink reaction. I also added some clear shimmer spray to the background too.
IMG_0431

I used some clear Wink of Stella glitter brush pen over the spider and the web on the die cut. I glued the whole card together and then finished it off with some clear sequins and some clear stars.

Now for the fun part! If you want to win the Spider Web Oval Frame, leave a comment on this blog post by 11:59 pm EST Sunday, September 1. The winner will be randomly selected and announced right here on this blog the next day on Monday, September 2. Good luck!

Holiday Blog Blitz Day 4: Winter Tree Frame in Autumn
by Anne Thompson

Welcome to another Blog Blitz day!  What fun we're having with the new 2019 Holiday release from Memory Box!  You can find a link to the entire release here--great stamps and dies for fall and winter to celebrate the holidays and every day.  There are new idea books as well, one for Halloween and one for Christmas, and they are full of inspiration for creating your own cards.  The Design Team members are showing you some of their new samples each day this week Monday the 26th through Sunday  the 1st and offering up prizes in exchange for comments.  Join the fun!

How about using the Winter Tree Frame to make an autumn card?!  Combined with some stamps from the Grateful Autumn clear stamps set, this makes a great card for my favorite season of the year.

IMG_1722

I started with a white notecard, a pile of Distress Inks in fall colors--Wild Honey, Squeezed Lemonade, Crushed Olive, and Gathered Twigs--and a round foam padded ink blending tool to create a soft background.  You can see in the picture how I started my blending tool on the scrap paper before moving it to the cardstock using a circular motion.

IMG_1714

I die cut the WINTER TREE FRAME 94303 from dark brown cardstock.

IMG_1717

I used 1/8" Scor-Tape to secure the large frame to the top two thirds of the notecard.  I used more of that tape to then add the smaller tree frame inside, bringing it close to the left lower corner of the larger frame.  (The color really changed in this photograph with different lighting.)

IMG_1725

I wanted a bit more color on the bottom third of the card so I chose two small maple leaves from the GRATEFUL
AUTUMN Clear Stamps Set CL5243 and inked them up with Wild Honey Distress ink and stamped them randomly in the open space.  I chose "autumn" from the same stamp set, inked it with VersaFine Clair Pinecone ink, and nestled it among the leaves.

IMG_1720

I added squash dot papers to the inside of the card and lined an envelope with it.

IMG_1742

That's it!

  IMG_1723

This will be a great card to replicate for fall in other colors like reds and oranges with maple leaves or in browns and golds with oak leaves.  And because there's so much space in the square frames, other background techniques and decorative papers will be fun to try.  Perhaps I'll even make it into a winter/holiday card!

Want a chance to win the Winter Tree Frame?  Just leave me a comment on this post any time before Sunday, Sept. 1 at 11:59 PM.  One comment will be selected at random to win it!  All contest winners for the week will be announced on the Outside the Box blog on Monday, Sept. 2 at 6 PM EST.  Good luck!

Happy Crafting!

Holiday Blog Blitz Day 3 Winter Tree Oval Frame
by Trina Pham

Hello everyone and welcome to day three of the Holiday Blog Blitz!  Christmas is my favorite holiday so I’m so excited for this release!  And no surprise, I have a very clean and simple Christmas card to share today.  It features the Winter Tree Oval Frame die.

D5337195-EC01-4217-87D2-AA76DD5232E5

Started by die cutting the oval frame twice from mixed media paper.  This resulted in two frames and two oval pieces.  Took one of the oval pieces and die cut the tree from it.

0BF68E7C-4552-419D-A4DA-E87F42AB515B

On the other oval, Tumbled Glass, Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch distress oxide inks were blended on with blending brushes.  Didn’t end up using the frames, so saved those for a future project.

CFC197DE-9901-4E23-BE1B-99A51FCBF81B

Next, spritz with water then dabbed off with a paper towel.   To create the falling snow, splattered with white gouache paint.  For some shimmer, spritz it with a Sparkle spray (sorry, couldn’t capture it in the photo).  White heat embossed the sentiment from the new Merry and Bright Mistletoe stamp set on black cardstock, then assembled the card onto a white top folding card base to finish.

Giveaway time!  This die is so versatile and can be used for both fall and winter projects.  For your chance to win it, leave a comment on this blog post by 11:59 pm EST Sunday, September 1.  The winner will be randomly selected and announced right here on this blog the next day on Monday, September 2.  Good luck and thank you for stopping by.

Glad Tidings
by Donna Sledzik

Hello everyone and welcome to day two of our Holiday Blog Blitz!

IMG_0066

I love the new stamp sets in this release!  I decided to use the "Tidings Wreath" stamp set today and loosely watercolor my stamped image.

I stamped the wreath image onto watercolor paper and used Distress Inks to color the image.

IMG_0062

I painted the leaves first and let them dry completely before painting the berries.  If the leaves were still wet the green and red paint could bleed into each other.

IMG_0063

Once my paint was dry, I added some shading with colored pencils to help define the leaves and berries.  I also spattered the card front with green distress ink.

Using foam tape I adhered my painted card front to a white card.

I stamped and white heat embossed my sentiment on a strip of black cardstock and glued this to my card.

IMG_0065

That's all for today's card! It's a fairly quick card to make!

Do you want a chance to win the new Tidings Wreath clear stamp set?  Leave a comment on this blog post anytime before Sunday, September 1st at 11:59pm EST.  One comment will be selected at random to win the prize.  All contest winners will be announced on the Outside the Box blog on Monday, September 2nd at 6:00pm EST.

Thanks for stopping by today and good luck!

Hi - Jean Okimoto here with the first blog blitz project and a chance to win a great prize.

Cut watercolor paper with the 3-¼" Square Basics die.  Sponge it with Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry and Spun Sugar Distress Oxides.  Spritz it with a light mist of water, then heat-set it.  Splatter it lightly with Imagine Crafts Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz.  Set it aside to dry.

Cut Chandele Star from white cardstock.  It's a great new design that's not just perfect for Chrismas - use it throughout the year for celebrations and special events.

Stamp the greeting - from the new Merry and Bright Mistletoe Clear Stamps Set - on white cardstock with VersaMark.  Emboss it with detail clear powser.  Sponge it with Rocket Red Gold Brilliance.  Wipe the residual ink off with a tissue.  Cut it with the ¾" Square Basics die.

Pressure-emboss the dried watercolor paper with Chandele Star using the plates and embossing mat required for your machine.

Cut a stencil from vellum using the Chandele Star.  Vellum is great for disposable stencils because it keeps a crisp edge and doesn't get saturated with ink.   Sponge Rocket Red Gold Brilliance through the stencil onto the pressure-embossed star.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded A-2 card of textured white cardstock.  Add ¼" circles punched from gold glitter cardstock.

Thanks for visiting.  Stop by again tomorrow for Donna's project and another chance to win a prize from our latest collection!
