Cool Cats at the Cottage Garden Gate Tri-Fold Card
by Anne Thompson

Hooray!!!  I got two new Memory Box dies last week from the 2018 Holiday Happenings Collection that I used for a tri-fold fall/Halloween card:  COOL CAT 94087 and COTTAGE GARDEN GATE 94082.

This is basically a matchbook card turned on its side with a narrow scallop-edged tab that folds over the card front.

And this is what you see on the inside.

  • Maybe you remember the Blackbird paper collection that Memory Box featured years and years ago.  I found some this last week in the bottom of my Halloween box and decided to finally use it for this project.  (So hard to part with paper I know can't be replaced.  My friend Connie would say that this card then will have to go to a very worthy person indeed!)
  • I started with a black matchbook pre-made card.  But this is easy to recreate.  The overall dimensions are  4 1/4 X 11 1/4.  Score it at 4 1/4 and at 9 1/4.  Use a die or a punch to create a decorative edge on the righthand narrow strip.
  • I added paper to the inside first, cutting each piece a bit smaller than each of the panel dimensions in order to have a black border around each of the decorative papers.

  • For the front cover, I cut apart the piece of paper with the birch tree and orange/gold ground area against a black sky and trimmed it to fit the two panels.
  • I added a moon to the sky with a 1 1/4" circle punched from more of the Blackbird paper.
  • I die cut the COTTAGE GARDEN GATE from both black and white cardstock and layered them together a bit offset.  I secured this to the card front on the orange/gold ground using a glue pen.
  • I die cut three cats using the COOL CAT die, two black and one white.  I put one black cat in front of the gate on the right side and the white one to the left of the gate.  I put the other black cat on the inside left panel.
  • I used the tiniest gold sequins I could find and teeny tiny glue dots to secure eyes on each of the cats.
  • There's plenty of room for a message in black ink on the inside panels.

This was a fun card shape to work with and I love the way it turned out.  No Blackbird paper in your stash?  Try the Memory Box patterned papers in Mango and Squash dots or gingham!

Happy Crafting!
