Summer Meadow Collage, Cascadia Butterfly Trio and Leavenworth Butterfly Trio by Jean Okimoto

Watercolors create a soft background for the Summer Meadow Collage and a trio of vellum butterflies.  Add a greeting from the Sentimental Iris Clear Stamps Set, gold-glittered accents and turquoise gem stickers.  Hi everyone, Jean Okimoto here with a thrifty design using the remainder of yesterday's watercolored background.

Kaleidacolor dye ink refills are great as liquid watercolors and come in a wide range of beautiful colors.

Cut Summer Meadow Collage from white cardstock - leave a generous  border of cardstock.

MemoryBoxSummerMeadowCollage-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCraftDies

Place the watercolored background behind it and tape everything securely so it doesn't shift.  Diecut through both layers at once.  The resulting background wasn't a complete rectangle because portions of it were used on another card - but it won't show.  Optional - trim a tiny amount from the edges of the background so the colors won't be visible from the side.

MemoryBoxCascadiaButterflyTrio-MemoryBoxButterflies-MemoryBoxCraftDies-JeanOkimoto-VellumButterflies-VellumDiecuts-ButterflyDiecuts

Cut Cascadia Butterfly Trio from lime, purple and turquoise vellum.  I cut all three sizes of each so I could try different color and size combinations.  If you don't have colored vellum,  diecut the butterflies from white vellum,  then sponge them with Brilliance Pearlescent Purple, Lime and Jade inks. Yes, Brilliance metallic inks dry on vellum!   Air-dry the butterflies - heat-setting them may cause curling.

Cut gold glitter cardstock or heavy paper with the antennae/centers from the Leavenworth Butterfly Trio.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded 5-½" square card of textured white cardstock.

Stamp the greeting - from the Sentimental Iris Clear Stamp Set - on white cardstock with Verdant VersaFine Clair.  Dry the ink, then cut then cut it with the ¾" x 2" Rectangle Basics die.  Attach the greeting - use a foam dot on the right edge.

Add turquoise gem stickers.

Flitter Side Butterfly and Wonderful Jotted Script by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxWonderfulJottedScript-MemoryBoxFlitterSideButterfly-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards-MemoryBoxButterflies-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredButterflies-WatercolorTechniques-Kaleidacolor-ImagineCrafts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Wonderful Jotted Script and a trio of Flitter Side Butterflies create a colorful summer design today.  Paint a vivid background of diluted Kaleidacolor dye ink refills, diecut the butterflies, add a layered greeting and gem stickers - and you're ready for any occasion.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a watercolored design in some of my favorite colors.  It's a versatile design that would be beautiful in your favorite colors too!

WatercolorTechniques-JeanOkimoto-KaleidacolorDyeInkRefills-ImagineCrafts

Paint the rough side of watercolor paper with loose, watery layers of Kaleidacolor dye ink refills.  Outline and define some areas with a waterbrush.

WatercolorTechniques-JeanOkimoto-KaleidacolorDyeInkRefills-ImagineCrafts

Add color variations, spots and splotches by lightly spritzing a large clean stamp block with water and pressing it firmly onto the watercolor paper.  Lift it - it'll have a few inky bubbles - press it onto a section with a contrasting color.  Let those little bubbles create some very cool spots and splotches.  Dry the inks with a heat-tool by alternately heating both sides of the paper to prevent curling.

MemoryBoxFlitterSideButterfly-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxButterflies-WatercoloredButterflies

Cut the detailed Flitter Side Butterfly from green, purple and turquoise cardstock.  Cut the background butterflies from the watercolored paper.

Cut the background Wonderful Jotted Script from natural cardstock.  Cut the detailed "wonderful" from a slightly bluer shade of cardstock.

Attach the diecuts to an A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card of natural cardstock.

Print "you are" with a label maker.  Attach them to the card with double-stick tape - the label adhesives aren't always secure on cardstock.

Add pale lavender gem stickers - I've colored clear stickers with a Sharpie.

Create a stash of watercolored backgrounds and they'll be ready - and dry (!) - when you need a quick card.  Butterflies are always a great design element for watercoloring.  Colors can be bright and splashy or soft and dreamy.  View the collection of Memory Box Butterflies and pick your favorites!

Big thanks to everyone from last weekend's BUTTERFLIES + BLOSSOMS class at Impress.  Hope you liked the colorful summer designs and techniques.  Special thanks too - Ann, Cindi, Shari and Erin - for helping everyone fill their shopping baskets.

Be sure to stop by both Impress stores on Saturday July 21st.  It's Impress' 31st Birthday and they're celebrating with a 25% shopping discount for everyone!  Bring your Memory Box and Poppystamps wishlist - it's time to fill your collection with the stamps and dies you've been admiring!

Thanks for visiting...hope you like butterflies and watercolors as much as I do!

Thanks Card
by Isha Gupta

Hello and Welcome! It's Isha with you today. Are you enjoying the new release products. They are fun to create with. I especially love all the Script words :) It's hot and sunny here and that calls for pool, beaches and water :)

I wanted to create a CAS card using the smooshing and simple watercolor technique.

Isha_MB_July_2018_card2

I started with a white cardbase. I then die-cut some pieces from the Wave Ribbon Collage die using watercolor paper. I used the negative parts of the die to create waves. I then dabbed various blue distress ink onto my craft mat, spritz some water and added the die-cut stripes to it to get the watercolor effect.

I stamped the fish images onto a watercolor cardstock, colored using the Zig Clean color markers and die-cut using the co-ordinating dies.

I adhered the wave pieces to the cardbase. Now I attached the fishes to it using 3D foam tape.

I die-cut the word two times out of black cardstock and stacked them together. Adhered this to the card.

Here is a close up.

Isha_MB_July_2018_card2_cl

To finish, I adhered some sequins (Fairy Sparkle, Mermaid Tail) from Poppy Stamps.

Hope you got inspired from today's card. Have a wonderful crafty day!

Beach Birds
by Penny Ward

July-2018-challenge

Hello friends. Penny here today with my creation of Beach Birds. OK...so the Swan doesn't really fit in....but that is the beauty of art. You can make whatever you want. :)

Are you playing along in this months challenge?  The theme is Beach/Surf. Create something wonderful and link to our challenge HERE. Someone has to win those beautiful prizes, it might just be you!

Let's do this card:

Start with a base of White cardstock measuring 4.25 x 5.50 inches. Slide the edges along a Delicata Copper ink pad.

Cut another panel of White cardstock just a bit smaller. Treat the edges the same way and adhere to base.

July-2018-challenge2

Die cut Radiant Frame and use as a stencil, spraying the card front using an eBrush and light yellow marker.

Die cut Wave Ribbon Collage and Garland Greenery from Olive cardstock. Die cut Seaweed Ribbons from Sage cardstock. Die cut Elegant Shorebirds and Floating Swan from White cardstock.

Now all you have to do is assemble as shown in my example.

July-2018-challenge3

For the sentiment, die cut the Thanks Jotted Script sentiment and the shadow from White cardstock. Adhere together, then to card front.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, and don't forget about our monthly challenge.

Happy Crafting,

Celebrate
by Donna Sledzik

Good morning everyone,

Today I created a quick summer card for you featuring the new Wave Ribbon Collage die.

Donna1

I started by die cutting the wave collage from white cardstock.

Next I cut a piece of watercolor paper the same size as my wave panel.  I sponged the watercolor paper with Blueprint Sketch Distress ink and misted it with plain water.  Once the paper was dry I adhered the wave die to the inked watercolor paper.

I stamped, colored and die cut the boat and glued it to the front of the wave panel.

I die cut the waves from white cardstock and glued those in front of the boat.

Donna2

Next I glued the prepared panel to a white cardstock mat layer and stamped the sentiment.

I glued the white card layer to red cardstock mat layer which was then adhered to a white card base.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hutton Wreath, Thanks Jotted Script and Feathered Friends by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-MemoryBoxHuttonWreath-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards-OwlCards-ThankYouCards-DiecutThankYouCards-WreathCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-ShizenDesigns

The happy Feathered Friends owl joins the new Hutton Wreath and Thanks Jotted Script on a color-splashed thank you card today.  Hi everyone - Jean Okimoto here with some of my favorite dies - and a timesaving 3-in-1 Jotted Script technique.

I love thinking of ways to save time - the husband says I'll spend 30 minutes trying to find a way to save 30 seconds.  If everyone saved 30 seconds, it would add up, wouldn't it?  Here's how to adhere the four Jotted Script dies,  glitter-ize them and add a bit of contrast against a matching background.  Not exactly rocket-science, but it's foolproof and sparkly!

MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards

Attach Scor-Tape to coral creme cardstock and diecut the Thanks Jotted Script background.  Cut the delicate "thanks" from dark brown cardstock.

MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Carefully press the delicate diecut onto the adhesive-covered background diecut.  Place the liner over it and give it an extra press.  Brush ultra-fine iridescent glitter over the remaining exposed adhesive.  I love the Impress Sparkle Glitter...it's almost time to buy another jar!

Cut Hutton Wreath from green cardstock.

Cut Feathered Friends Deep Edge Dies owl from screenprinted paper.  Cut the face from natural cardstock.  Cut the wing from gold wrinkled paper.  Both papers are from Shizen Designs - I got mine from Impress.  The eyes and beak are on the same die - cut them from orange cardstock.  Use a marker to color the eyes black.

Attach the diecuts to an A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card of coral creme cardstock.  Add peachy-pink gem stickers.

MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-MemoryBoxHuttonWreath-MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards-OwlCards-DiecutThankYouCards-OwlDiecuits-WreathDiecuts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

We're loving the "Jotteds" - it's hard not to use them.  I'll use them for stenciling on a future card.  Or cut the bold outline from the front of the card, then attach the delicate script on the inside to create a word window card.   So many possibilities!

Thanks for visiting - keep cool!

Thanks Card
by Isha Gupta

Hello and Welcome! It's Isha with you today. Are you enjoying the new release products. They are fun to create with. I especially love all the Script words :) It's hot and sunny here and I see butterflies fluttering by in my garden, so now you know my inspiration :)

I really like the look and size of the "Flitter Side Butterfly", which I combined with the "Drifting Side Butterfly" from the previous release. I decided to use patterned paper to give some color to this card. So it's perfect for someone who has no time for coloring!!

Isha_MB_July_2018_card1

I started with a white cardbase. I then cut a mat layer using watercolor paper. I then dabbed blue distress ink onto my craft mat and using a flat brush, painted some watercolor lines.

I then die-cut a vellum circle.

Now I die-cut the solid part of the butterflies and the thin Thanks word script using patterned paper.

I then cut the delicate top part of the butterflies and emboss them using two colors of glitter embossing powders for some added interest.

Now, I adhered these to the solid die-cut.

I die-cut the Thanks solid word using white cardstock and adhered the thin script over it. Assemble the card as per the photo.

Here is a close up.

Isha_MB_July_2018_card1_cl

To finish, I adhered some sequins (Fairy Sparkle, Mermaid Tail) from Poppy Stamps.

Hope you got inspired from today's card. Have a wonderful crafty day!

Wave Ribbon Collage as Not Waves
by Anne Thompson

Since my cards on June 18th,  I've been experimenting with ways to use the WAVE RIBBON COLLAGE die 94005 as not waves.  Here's what I came up with first.

IMG_0548

I started with Lemongrass notecards, Violet Dot paper, and black cardstock.

These are the dies I used.

IMG_0549

  • I cut the WAVE RIBBON COLLAGE 94005 in the front of each Lemongrass notecard, one card horizontally and the other vertically.
  • I glued down a piece of Violet Dot paper 4 X 5 1/4 to the inside right panel of each notecard.
  • I die cut the FORGET ME NOT BLOOMS 99997 multiple times--the stems from black cardstock and the blossoms from the Violet Dot paper.
  • I die cut the FLITTER SIDE BUTTERFLY 94002--the solid body twice from Violet Dot paper and the more detailed butterfly outline twice from black cardstock.
  • For the card on the left, I used the horizontal wave cut and added two Forget Me Not stems and Violet Dot blossoms, popping up one of the blossoms and adding white pearls to the blossom centers.  I used a glue pen to put the butterfly together and popped it up on the card near one cluster of blossoms.
  • For the second card with the vertical wave ribbon, I added one stem to the right edge of the cut-out and blossoms with pearl centers at the top and popped on the second butterfly.

The second card got me thinking that I could use the vertical Wave Ribbon Collage cut-out as stems which resulted in this card.

IMG_0546

This time I used a Key Lime notecard and Key Lime Gingham paper, using the waves as stems for the Forget Me Not blooms.

And then I couldn't stop coming up with ideas!  Here are two more.

IMG_0547

The one on the left incorporates the BIRD BRANCH CIRCLE FRAME 99993 cut from black cardstock and placed over the vertical Wave Ribbon Collage.  I perched just one of the birds on the branch.  The card on the right showcases the TREE BLOSSOM STITCHED CIRCLE FRAME 99914 cut from black cardstock and placed on top of the horizontal Wave Ribbon Collage with another Flitter Side Butterfly added.

And these are the dies I used.

IMG_0550

So...wave ribbons don't have to be waves.  They can be stems or just an interesting detail on a card front to showcase another die or to highlight an interesting paper inside or placed directly behind the Wave Ribbon Collage cut-out.

Happy Crafting!

Jotted-awesome

Hello, hello Memory Box friends. Penny here today with the promised leftover section of watercolored paper from the card I created last weekend featured HERE. This butterfly is my new favorite...so cute!

And here we go:

Start with White cardstock base measuring 4.25 x 5.0 inches. Cut Red and Green cardstock the same size, then diagonally and adhere to card base.

Jotted-awesome2

The background is a left over piece of watercolor paper that has been sprinkled and spritzed with Lindy's Magicals Red and Green. See my post last post HERE.

Trim section to about 4.25 x 5 inches and adhere to card front.

Jotted-awesome3

Die cut Flitter Side Butterfly from White, Lime and Aqua cardstocks. Adhere together slightly off center, then to card front as shown.

Die cut Awesome Jotted Script from Red and Lime cardstocks. Adhere together, then to card front with foam adhesive.

Add a strip of Aqua cardstock to top and bottom of panel.

Are you loving these new Jotted Script words as much as I am?!?

Birthday Jotted Script, Rolling Wave Collage and Family of Fish by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxBirthdayJottedScript-MemoryBoxFamilyOfFish-MemoryBoxRollingWaveCollage-MemoryBoxSquareBasics-MemoryBoxFishTalesClearStamps-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-ImagineCrafts-MemoryBoxCards-FishCards-DiecutFishCards-DiecutBirthdayCards

The new Birthday Jotted Script joins the Family of Fish and Rolling Wave Collage for a summer celebration today.  Hello everyone, Jean Okimoto here with a bit of inspiration for the July Surf and Turf Challenge.

MemoryBoxRollingWaveCollage-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Cut turquoise cardstock with the 3-¼" Square Basics die.

Here's a tip...attach the Rolling Wave Collage to the square with a piece of rolled painter's tape placed  in the off-cut section that won't be used on the card.  It's OK if the tape damages the cardstock there.

Cut Family of Fish from a portion of a Persimmon Notecard.  Remove two of the fish near the bottom left.  Keep the single fish - he'll be attached near the top of the group.

Cut the Birthday Jotted Script background from dark gray and light gray cardstock.

MemoryBoxBirthdayJottedScript-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Another tip...scrunch a piece of waxed paper and rub it briskly over the delicate Birthday Jotted Script die before cutting.  This makes it quick and easy to remove intricate diecuts.  Cut it from turquoise cardstock.  Be sure to save the tiny dot for the "i" - and attach it to the dark gray birthday background die.

Attach the turquoise birthday diecut to the dark gray background, then attach them to the light gray background.  A triple layer adds dimension and color contrast.

Stamp the greeting - from the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set - on natural cardstock with Habanero VersaFine.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.

Attach the diecuts and the greeting to a side-folded 5-½" square card of dark gray cardstock.  Add dark orange sequins.

Square cards require extra postage - but I think this bright combo of circles and squares will make it an extra-special birthday for your favorite guy.

Big thanks to everyone who joined us for the first BUTTERFLIES + BLOSSOMS class at Impress on July 4th!  Hope you liked those splashy colors, techniques, screenprinted papers - and new Memory Box and Poppystamps dies.  Thanks too - Karen and Becca - for arranging the classroom and helping us find the perfect supplies for our summer projects.  Big thanks to Jan too - for those special 4th of July treats!

Have a wonderful weekend - hope you'll join us again tomorrow for Penny's great card...
