Greetings friends! Memory Box has a brand new release as well a new type of die. We would like to introduce you to "deep edge" dies. Deep Edge dies are thicker than normal dies and can cut through multiple layers at once, which makes mass-production projects/gifts a snap. The dies can cut through cardstock, thin wood, thin metal, fabric, felt, plastic, etc.... You can use them as you would your other metal dies with the same die cutting "sandwich" if you are cutting only one layer at a time. If you are doing multiple layers at a time, you need to have a metal shim included in the sandwich and you need to cut into the metal plate for precise cuts. This will eventually warp your metal plate, but the upside is that you will save yourself tons of time cutting out all your projects. I have one metal plate designated for my regular detail dies, which stays flat and pristine. I have a second metal plate that I use when I am using my deep edge dies.
For my project today, I wanted to share a project that I am doing for Christmas. I am making sweet bunny ornaments out of felt. They are very affordable and I can't tell you how happy I am by how light they are to mail.
It was really hard to take a picture that allowed me to capture the size of the ornament, so I will just tell you that it ended up being about 6 1/2" x 4." I love the size because not only does it work as an ornament, but I also have plans to make him out of patterned paper and use him as a stand-up figure I can put on the mantle with a little fake snow. If I use some of the other Memory Box deep edge dies, I could make my own winter critter village.
When I started making my ornaments, I cut three pieces of felt at a time to work on three different bunnies at the same time. From the picture above, you can see I was making some bunnies in cream, some in brown, and some in grey.
Once I cut out pieces for each bunny, I used fabric glue to adhere everything together. I cut extra pieces for the back of the bunny so that it would look more finished if viewed from the back. The second layer of felt also made my ornament a bit more stiff and stable.
Here is a view from the back:
I was really pleased with the end result of the ornaments. If you decide to make ornaments out of fabric, I would add Heat and Bond behind the fabric to make it more stable.
Curious about the new deep edge dies and all the seasonal/gift giving possibilities? Check out the brand new winter release catalog. Flip through all the pages and be inspired with what you can do.

The snow bunny ornament is so cute! The snow bunny would be perfect for gift tags on a gift bag or a wrapped gift for my grandaughters! Love the colours you have chosen. When I diecut regular fabric, not felt, I iron on the wonder under before I cut, if it's a thinner fabric I iron a second layer of fabric to the other side of the wonder under. This gives me double sided fabric, no fraying and more stability. I am very happy Memory Box has come out with the deep edge dies, exactly what I have been wishing for.

Awe this little critter is too cute! Wonderful size as well! Love the idea of have a die that can cut through so many products and layers! Plus storing it looks to be just like my other Memory Box dies which is awesome as it won't take up a ton of room like other multilayer cutting dies.
