Snowflake Ovals
by Jenny Griffiths

Hello Everyone!

So glad you dropped by today as I share two cards using the same dies but with very different looks.  The Batavia Snowflake Oval and Poinsettia Blooms are the featured dies today.  I'll be posing the question, "which one do you like the best" so be thinking about that as I explain my process...

Snowflake Oval Duo

The blue card on the left is cool and serene while the card on the right is bold and dramatic.  After creating the blue card I realized I made several using the same or similar colors in the past few months so I switched gears and designed the black card...maybe it was the eclipse yesterday, I don't know.

Starting with a splattering of gold paint onto black card stock is always a good start.  There's something satisfying about letting it fly.  To go along with the gold paint, I used gold glitter paper---as a vertical strip on the (throughly dried) note card and to overlay snowflakes onto the oval.  The Batavia Snowflakes are very intricate yet cut through the glitter paper with ease.  I cut the green background from the Stitched Oval Layers die set, stamped and adhered it to the reverse side of the snowflake oval.

The poinsettia...I love this die so much.  The petals are embossed so you see the detailed veins AND there are three sizes in the set.  For this bloom I die cut the largest in licorice gingham, the mid-size in red as well as two of the small size.  The die set even includes the little perfect centers (I googled the technical names of all the flower parts but I going with "petals" and "centers").

I couldn't resist adding a little gold crazy wire (sometimes called bullion wire) for pizzaz.

Changing direction...literally going horizontally now... I postioned the Batavia Snowflake Oval, backed with the stamped light blue card stock, onto the note card atop of some thin silver stripe washi tape.  Cut from silver and blue glitter paper, the Batavia Snowflakes were adhered over the corresponding snowflakes on the oval.

Once again I used the Poinsettia Blooms die set and created the flower using more glitter paper and white paint splattered onto red petal layers.  Oh! and silver crazy wire this time.

I hope you like these cards and see how the same dies can create such different looking cards...now, here it is..."which one do you like the best"?

Thanks again for stopping by today...

Happy Tuesday!
