Butterfly Wing Medley on the Heart Wire
by Jean Okimoto

Celebrate Earth Day by up-cycling some favorite dies and creating a whole new look with the Butterfly Wing Medley and Heart Wire.  Hi - Jean Okimoto here - with a design featuring some of my favorite dies.

Full disclosure...I spent several minutes looking for my "Butterfly Wire" die in my stash and online before realizing that it didn't exist, except in my little mind.  Ever have days like that?

I could visualize the card, so I just decided to work backwards from that mental image and create it for you anyway.

Paint watercolor paper in shades of pink, yellow and coral Peerless Watercolors.  Dry it, then spritz it with Imagine Crafts Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz.  Dry it again.  Cut it with Butterfly Wing Medley - the edges are cut out and the center remains intact.  Lightly crease the centers and cut or gently pull the butterflies until they're released from the background.

Use a waterbrush to blend some color onto the white edges that were revealed when the butterflies were released.

Cut Heart Wire from pink cardstock.  Trim portions of the hearts above and below the "wire" - just enough so they won't be visible when the butterflies are overlaid.

Cut a 3-¾" x 5" rectangle of smooth white cardstock with the Rectangle Basics die.  Stamp New Beginnings with Rocket Red Gold.  Attach the rectangle to a side-folded A-2 card of textured white cardstock.

Place Heart Wire on the background and attach the butterflies over it - use foam dots for the two largest and left corner butterflies.

Attach Scor-Tape behind gold mirror cardstock and cut the butterfly centers from the Butterfly Wreath Set.  Trim four centers to fit the smaller butterflies.  Attach the centers and add gold gem stickers.

Oh, my....love the cards especially the pink one. So beautiful.

Jean, both of your cards are beautiful as always! Your talent is beyond belief!
The Butterfly Wire card is stunning and sadly, I have searched my room hi and low once for the Prayers stamp (from SSS) only to realized I had NEVER bought it. I had seen it used so much I thought I owned it! DAH! Boy was I disappointed! LOL (True story!)

These card are gorgeous! I LOVE the colors and the watercolor technique. You did a fabulous job. TFS.

Thanks - I thought pink butterflies would be a nice change!

Thanks Teresa - I wondered why I hadn't already shared a butterfly wire card...it took me a while to realize it was because the the butterfly wire die didn't exist!

Thanks! Watercoloring is relaxing, enjoyable - and very forgiving. Paint a stash of backgrounds and have them ready for your next project.

So creative and so clever. Gorgeous and ever so pretty colouring on those butterflies. Thank you for the inspiration x

Jean, you always make the most beautiful cards. This is no exception!

Both are just gorgeous, love how you have painted them!

What a clever idea and a great way of getting a different look from a die improvisation is wonderful thanks for sharing I feel like I have a few more dies in my small collection now without spending any money, thanks for sharing.

Thank you Mac Mable - try these butterflies in blues/greens/purples too!

Thanks Conniecrafter - I just did the butterflies...I think Dave watercolored the flowers. Either way...enjoy!
