Dancing Snowflakes
by Jenny Griffiths

Hello Crafty Friends!

Take a look at this beautiful die called Dancing Snowflakes Square--Not only does it cut exquisite snowflakes but it also embosses depth and dimension to portions of the die.  That's a double whammy in my book!  Let's take a look...

If you haven't worked with dies like this before, here's how to achieve a cut, embossed and colored card--

  1. Run the die cut through your machine as you would normally then...
  2. leave the paper in the metal die cut but change out your plates/rubber embossing pads according to your machine's "sandwich" instructions (for my Big Shot, I add the rubber embossing pads and swap out the main platform for a thinner one).
  3. For extra depth, I run it through twice.
  4. Finally, still keeping the paper in the die, sponge blue dye inks (tumbled glass and stormy sky) over the embossed side.  This way you are only inking the embossed raised areas.
  5. Pop out the paper from the die and admire your handywork.

Before attaching the snowflake square onto your card front, heat emboss the sentiment (I used Ranger's cornflower blue powder) onto a 1 inch wide vellum strip.  To cut down on the vellum warping, preheat your heat tool before bringing it to the paper.

Adhere the vellum strip into position (use tiny amounts of tape adhesive in areas that will be inconspicous later) followed by the dancing snowflake square.  Trim any vellum overage from the sides.

I added very thin strips of silver glitter paper (1/8") to the top and bottom of the square and layered poinsettias from the Fanciful Poinsettia Ornament die in the corners.

Dropping down from the snowflakes is a silver glittered single snowflake from the Precious Snowflakes set (#98729) whick looks nice but also helps anchor the vellum.

Pearls and gemstones?  Of course!

Thanks to all the wonderful ladies in my Memory Box classes this week (The Stamp Addict and Stamp Delights)...a great time was had by all.  See you again soon!

So pretty! I love the pretty poinsettias too! TFS!
