Oh Hello Spring (maybe!)
by Shelby Thomas

I'm getting a little tired of winter dragging on, and Spring can't get here soon enough.  To put me in the mood of the beautiful colors of spring, I pulled out my Distress Stains and got busy making my own kind of Spring.

Watercolorhello

Doesn't this just scream we are almost done with Winter and bright warmer days are ahead?  The card base is A2 and each layer is 1/8" smaller than the preceding layer.  To create the front panel, I pulled out my Distress stains (Squeezed Lemonade, Twisted Citron, Mermaid Lagoon, Wilted Violet and Picked Raspberry).  I used a water wet 6 round brush to create the pattern I wanted to stains to follow and then laid in the stain with a wet flat brush.  I dried each color with a heat gun before laying down the next color.  I'm sure it would work just fine if the colors weren't dried in between, but I guess I'm a little bit of a control freak! Here is a link to a video showing both the painting technique and inlaid die cuts, though the colors used in the video are different.

I die cut the word "hello" directly from the front panel.  I then adhered the word to double sized adhesive foam, put the die back over the word (make sure it is lined up perfectly) and ran it through the die cutting machine again.  This applies a thin layer of foam all over the back side of the word so there is a perfectly even layer of foam.  I then placed the word back into the panel.

The Calais butterflies were cut from another piece of watercolor paper using the same colors just lighter because I used more water.  Add a few sequins or bling bling and tada an fun springy card all ready to go!

Thanks for stopping in today, and hope the rest of your week is amazing.
