"Happy Easter" Egg Pockets
by Anne Thompson

I've been eager to start on Easter projects and to sew the PLUSH EASTER EGG POCKET die no. 99393.  The picture on the envelope shows it done up in lovely pastel felt.  Almost all of my felt is Christmas red and green with the exception of one piece of pink with white polka dots and a few small scraps of purple and dark green left from a project completed long long ago.  I die cut it with what I had and sewed it up with white perle cotton thread, sewing on some purple flowers with green leaves that also cut with the same die.

I then die cut the HAPPY EASTER EGG die no. 99342 from purple cardstock, glued it onto white cardstock and cut around the outside egg edge.  I punched a hole in the top and tied on a pretty ribbon and the popped it into the pocket.  Cute!!!

At every holiday I make a dozen or more gift containers of one kind or another and tuck in treats for some elderly folks in our community.  I thought these egg pockets would be perfect.  Without much appropriately colored felt on hand,  I turned to my paper stash.  I have a lot of MEMORY BOX VIOLET DISTRESSED DOTS paper so I die cut 24 of the eggs and 12 of their cracked egg pockets.  IMG_2550

For a half dozen of  these pocket eggs, I die cut the HAPPY EASTER EGG from white cardstock that I had mounted to sticky sheets so I could just peel-and-stick them to the violet dotted eggs before assembling them.  They sewed up really quickly, much faster than the felt one actually.  I put two of the eggs back-to-back (right sides out) and centered a cracked egg on the bottom front egg.  Using a large-eyed needle and perle cotton (you could use embroidery thread, yarn, or string), I used a simple running stitch, going around the egg twice so that the spaces between every hole were filled.  (There are lots of stitching You Tube videos if you aren't sure how to stitch these things together.  I particularly like Jennifer McGuire's for both the Christmas and Easter/spring projects.  She even shows you how to stitch these pocket eggs!)  All I have to do now is trim off the extra threads on the back of each one.  (I tied my beginning thread tail and my ending one together on the back when I finished stitching.)  And then I need to find the perfect something to tuck into each pocket.  For several people I may just tuck a note into the pocket and use the egg as a tag to attach to a larger present.

Don't be afraid to sew paper!  The punched holes make this a cinch no matter what kind of stitches you use to hold the pieces together.

Happy Crafting!

These are really cute... good job!

Oooooh, Anne, this is so adorable!!

Hi, Jan. I'm going to do some more of these in other papers and try out some other stitches for sewing them together. They really are fun to do and this makes a goof take-along project for times when I know I'll have to sit and wait awhile. Thanks for commenting! Anne

...should say "good" but it's late as I write this and I'm a little "goofy"... :-)

Hi, Cheryl. These have been so much fun to do. Hoping for a snow day/pajama day tomorrow so I can make some more! Thanks for commenting. Anne
