Rustic Pines

'Morning Crafty Friends,

Have you been enjoying the blog blitz this week featuring dies and stencils from the new Memory Box Winter 2014 release?

This morning's feature die is the Pinecone Frame---all together now...Oooo-ahhh.  It's a beauty and today I want to share two cards using it in different directions.

This is one of those dies that removes the main design leaving "negative" space.  So that means whatever color is behind the top layer will show through and define the design.  I used a dark brown paper behind the die cut to give it contrast.

This is what the die looks like when you take it out of the package:

For the card above, I flipped the paper over after die cutting it.  The branch decends from the upper right corner. Now, here's another version using the same die but this time without flipping the die cut paper over.  The branch decends from the upper left corner.

So you can go either way--lefty or righty.

Both cards were watercolored (then dried), distress inked (then dried), stenciled or stamped (yep, dried again), spritzed with paint--then finally, dried. The pine needles (cut from green and kraft paper) were adhered with glossy accents.  The Give Thanks sentiment was added to the Teramo label and tied with natural colored twine around the front panel.

Just to remind you, Shelby will be posting right here this afternoon--don't miss it!  So if you like what you see and are feeling lucky, be sure to join in by leaving a comment--which will automatically enter your name in our special drawing for the Pinecone Frame die.

You have until 11pm EST on Sunday, Oct 26th to leave comments.  Winners will be announced on the blog Monday, October 27th.  Good Luck to all!

Great cards, Jenny! I love the worn backgrounds, and I always enjoy woodsy type dies, stamps, and stencils! Awesome new product!

Gorgeous cards! Love the Pinecone Frame die and the Pine Needles! Pretty colors and details on your cards! Love the way you added the sentiment!

Your cards are stunning Jenny! The pinecone frame die is lovely and would be just perfect for Christmas cards!

Fabulous cards. I love all your layers of colour. This die is gorgeous. It's definitely on my wish list.

Jenny, these are gorgeous!!!

Jenny, both of these cards are absolutely AMAZING in color and design. Great job!

Love the Pinecone die, just wish it didn't cut a complete rectangle. That way it could be used on any size cards including standard European formats (A6).

Quite an unusual die, I haven't got any of these type, they do look good, must put this on my wish list. Thank you for sharing

I love these adorable little pine cones! This is really an awesome card!

Your cards today are simply stunning Jenny. These new dies are really awesome each and every one of them. I already feel the pull on my account here LOL:

Beautiful cards! I can see making quick cards with this, too.

Especially lovely cards...heads above other Christmas cards I've seen! Wish I had the coloring vision you have...

Beautiful cards. Love your use of that new die. I hadn't thought of a use for that die but you inspired me. Thanks for the idea. Have a good week-end.

Love that this die can be flipped to use for left or right facing! More bang for your buck! Your cards are both so pretty! LOVE the color palette and the Pine Needles die compliments this nicely! Would love to add it to my collection so I can combine them!! Thanks for the inspiration and the chance to win yet another great die!

Great mixed-media cards!

Great cards, and great tutorial/instructions! Love the nature simplicity!

Beautiful cards. Looks like this die would have lots of applications for men's cards.

Beautiful cards, love the die!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful cards.

I really like the pine cones. We have lots of pine trees in our state.
