Welcome to Day One of the Stencils Blog Blitz! For the next two weeks we are featuring projects that use Memory Box stencils. Please leave comments for each post on the blog in order to be eligible to win stencils of your own!
To start off the Blog Blitz, I chose two stencils and a word die to work with:
- Starry Nights Stencil No. 88537
- Star Dust Stencil No. 88573
- Hello Script Die 98580
Here's the finished card:
Now for some step-by-step instructions with photos of the process.
I started with a Memory Box medium blue notecard and the Starry Nights stencil.
To get the effect shown in the photo above, I set up this sandwich for my Big Kick to emboss the stencil: Tab One, Stencil, Paper, Rubber Mat (mine is a piece from the plumbing section at the hardware store), Clear Plate, and two extra pieces of cardstock to make a thick enough sandwich to emboss the stencil image. I had to experiment a few times to get the right mix and you most likely will need to do the same for whatever embossing machine you have.
I then used a sanding block on top of the embossing to reveal white stars. I trimmed this piece and adhered it to the front of a Memory Box White Notecard.
I used the other half of the card and placed the smaller Star Dust stencil on it, taped in place with painter's tape. I used a small round dauber and Color Box Frost White Pigment Ink to create this:
I then added white opaque embossing powder over the stenciled image and heat set it. I trimmed that piece into three sections and mounted each on white cardstock before attaching to the card front.
I die cut the Hello Script in white cardstock and added it to the bottom of the card front:
One helpful hint: I added adhesive using a tape runner to the back of the word before popping it out of its cardstock piece.
The card still looked like it needed something, so I went to my ribbon scrap box for this final look:
I hope you will enjoy our stencil projects and try out some of the techniques we use. And please post comments! I LOVE to read what you have to say and you just might win a STAR DUST STENCIL!
You have until Sun, May 18 at 6pm EST to win this stencil. Winners will be chosen at random and posted on the Outside the Box blog on Monday, May 19. Good luck!
Happy Crafting,

Great star-card.

Usually recognize your techniques and projects as soon as I spot them before reading your name at the end, but not this time. You went off in a slightly different "Direction" - love it (and all your work, of course). Connie

What a beautiful card! The stars are so easily seen, just as they are here in our crisp, clear night sky - We are so blessed to be able to see the stars clearly without interference of night lights. Thanks for showing a simple design.

Great card and instructions! Not a die (yet) but 'Congrats' would also work as a graduation, or promotion card!

Anne,
I love your card, blue is my favorite color. Thank you for stencil bossing technique, will have to give it a go. Questions:The rubber mat from the hardware store, did it come on a roll? Do you know the thickness?
