Christmas Wishes

This year we are celebrating our first year as a family with a little one and I am so excited I can hardly stand it! I keep thinking of the things I loved about Christmas when I was growing up and all the family traditions we had. I am so happy to be passing down some of them and starting some new traditions of my own. This card made by one of our newest teachers, Anne Jackson at The Stamp Addict really touched me and made me realize that all my Christmas wishes have come true with the addition of our son Riley into our home.

I hope each and every one of your Christmas wishes come true and that you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Warmest Wishes

Happy Sunday to everyone!  Thanks for stopping by and I hope I can provide you with a little inspiration before Christmas.

For this Christmas creation, I've gone back to the more traditional colors and used an inlaid technique.  I'm sure there might be a different term than inlaid, but it is the word that pops in my head when I use this technique:)

The inlaid technique is super easy to do and creates some fun looks.  This technique uses the negative portion the die creates and the positive portion and combines them.  Each of the dies in this card was used twice (one to create the negative and the second to create the positive).  I used Frosty Border (98171) to create the negative image on the gold paper and the used it again with the burgundy paper to create the positive cut and inlaid the burgundy piece into the gold paper.

The tree in the center of the card was created using Winterland Tree (98168).  First cut the negative image into the gold paper; cut a second tree out of the burgundy paper and inlay this piece into the gold paper.  I finished off the card with a few crystals and stamped the sentiment (B1946) in black Stazon.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.

Christmas in the City

Happy weekend to everyone and hope y'all are almost ready for Christmas and will be able to spend time with your family and friends.

I love Christmas, but about this time of the holiday card making season, I get a wee bit tired of the red and green color palette.  So for today's card, I went with a black and white Christmas card

Mbcitychristmas

Okay so maybe a add just a touch of red on the berries! This is a relatively fast card to make.

The black card base measures 6"x 4 1/2"; the white layering cardstock measures 5 7/8" x 4 3/8"; and the polka dotted paper is 5 3/4" x 4 1/4".

To create the city landscape I used the die cuts Cityscape Nightline (98398) and the Cityscape Silhouette (98399) cut twice...once in white and layered with the Cityscape Nightline (cut in black) and the second cut in black to lay offset in the background to create more dimension.

I used foam adhesive dots to attach the cityscape nightlight to give dimension to the design.

Other die cut used in this design was Jingle Bell Border (98169) and every other bell was colored in black and white polka dots created using a white sharpie poster paint pen.

The sentiment used from Memory Box is 98399.

I hope you have an enjoyable Saturday and I'll see back here again tomorrow for my next card!

Watercolor Trees

MB DEC 20 2013

Hi Everyone!

With only a few days before Christmas I have a quick and easy last minute card idea. I used watercolor paper for my stamped image. Simply color your stamp with water based markers. I used Tim Holtz Distress Markers, but any water based products will work as well.  I applied several colors of green to my stamp and then mist it with water. I spattered the card with watered down ink from my marker. Dry the card completely and stamp your sentiment.

Memory Box Products used:

  • Snowy Pine Landscape Stamp #F1900
  • Merry Christmas Flourish Stamp #B1953
  • Snow Place Like Home Stamp # B1935 (I used the snowflake on the side of the stamp)

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas!!!

We 3 Trees

With Christmas a mere 5 days away, if you need a quick card --this could be just the ticket.  It's a "clean and simple" style with just three dies and a stamp.  Boom--that's pretty easy.

I did discover a little tip to share with you when using the Frosted Christmas Tree die.  The detail on this die is lovely and to enhance it to the fullest, use some rubbing alcohol before sending it through the cutting machine.  I poured a small amount of rubbing alcohol into an empty spray/mister bottle, placed the die on the paper, misted both lightly, then ran it through the machine.  Before removing the die, wait until the paper feels completely dry (the rubbing alcohol evaporates quickly--more so than if you spritzed with water).  The dampening of the paper with rubbing alcohol allows the die to deeply imprint into the paper--give it a try.

On the trees shown I used this technique on the white tree only--see the difference?  I shortened the middle tree just a little and "squiggle-cut" the bottom edge.  "Squiggle-cut" is a highly technical term.
