More penguin love...

Hello All

It's Mary here this afternoon.  Welcome again to the blog blitz!  Today I made a card that is great for all of those winter birthdays.  They creep up on me around the holidays when I rarely have time to make a card. I'm going to make a few of these and have them on hand when I need them.  Bundled Penguin is still my favorite and I combined him with the new Playful Penguins die to create a bright winter birthday card that is pretty gender neutral.

The yellow "glow" behind the penguin is actually the new Evergreen Snow Globe stamp.  There is a tree in the center but the penguin is covering it up.

Memory Box products used:

Bundled Penguin stamp (#C1937), Snow Fall stamp (#E1961), Happy Birthday to Someone Special stamp(#B1910), Palyful Penguins die (#98734), Evergreen Snowglobe stamp (#E1933), Holly Berry card,Lagoon card stock

Thanks for stopping by and scroll down to see Deborah's post from earlier today. Don't forget to leave a comment for a chance to win something from the new release.

Thanks,

-Mary

Something Spooky is Brewing!

Hello, All!

Today I decided to do a Halloween scene, but I'm sorry to say my flash and the overall artificial lighting are not doing the colors in this card justice! I wanted to do something with colors other than the traditional black, orange and purple, so I went with shades of colors that were closely related to gray and then punched them up a little bit with PrismaColor pencils. In person, it looks quite nice! (Try to imagine it with deep, rich colors of very dark blue, brown, etc.)

Joyous Evergreen Snowglobe

Hi, everyone!   Have you been enjoying the blog blitz as much as I have?!   I haven't had a chance to post yet....I was sunning in beautiful Palm Beach, Florida for the last week and a half.   I'm finally back and...well, I guess I should say rested.  The best part is I was able to finally fit in some time from work to play with my new stamps and dies from Memory Box.

My card features the new Evergreen Snow Globe stamp (E1933).  Did you know that the new Evergreen Snow Globe stamp and City Globe stamp were designed to be used with the Grand Snow Globe (98228)?

Evergreen Snow Globe

I stamped the Evergreen Snow Globe using Versafine Onyx ink and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder.   I highlighted the tree with Scattered Straw Distress Ink using a finger dauber and then carefully added Faded Jeans and Chipped Sapphire Distress Inks around again with finger daubers.  Once your done adding the distress inks, make sure you take a tissue and carefully rub off the excess inks from the embossed areas.

Now, where did that "joy" stamp come from????  Well, from the Presents of Joy stamp (D1951) (CS1951D for cling).  I just used a water-based black marker to color the word "joy" and stamped it on the front of my card.  Love the script!

Here are the Memory Box Products I used:

I'll be teaching two classes at A Small Cleverness in Orange Park, FL on August 23 and then again on August 24.   Check the store website for the details!  Hope to see you there.

Want a chance to win the Evergreen Snow Globe stamp?  Leave a comment on my post, and one winner will be chosen at random on Sunday, July 14th to win it.  Good luck!  Oh, one last thing...check your local stamp store for the new releases from Memory Box!  You'll love them as much as we do!

Winter wonderland scene....

Hello everyone,

Welcome as we continue our blog blitz!   I have really been enjoying all of the inspiration on the blog these last several days.  I couldn't wait to see what the other designers did with all of the new product.  It's Mary here today with card I made using the new Bundled Penguin stamp.  How cute is he!   I was really excited to see all of the penguin stamps and dies in this release.  The Frosted Christmas Tree die is another new favorite of mine.  It cuts and embosses beautifully and is just lovely.  I cut one down to get the 2 different sizes.

Here is another shot to show some of the details.  I like to use foam tape to give my cards a lot of dimension.

Classic Staircase Vignettes

Another day and more blog blitz posts!  I hope you are enjoying this as much as I am!  Be sure to go back and read through the previous posts...and leave comments.  Prizes will be awarded for each post from all its comments received once the blitz finishes.

These cards feature the Classic Staircase die 98665.  I created little rooms using Memory Box papers as wallpaper and decorated them using Memory Box and PoppyStamps dies.  Each room looks sooo different by just changing the color scheme.

Stairs blue

Stairs brown

DIES USED from Memory Box:

  • Classic Staircase 98665
  • Flying Birds 98655 (Outside the window and/or as the pottery bird on the table)
  • Grand Oak Tree 98462 (bits and pieces as the tree seen through the window)

DIES USED from PoppyStamps:

  • window from 883 Madison House Set
  • 897 Aston Side Table
  • 891 Small Verano Lamp
  • 859 Walking Cat
  • 860 Sitting Cat

I spent quite awhile and made a few mistakes trying to find the right dies to use to decorate the room for Christmas.  Here's what finally works.  To decorate the stair railing, I first cut apart the Night Sky Border 98682 and placed the stars hanging from the stair railing.  Then I die cut the PoppyStamps die 824 BreezyWreath twice.  One cut on each wreath and I had the perfect layered garland for draping down the stair railing.  I added a bow snipped from Memory Box die 98729 Precious Snowflakes.  A few gems or pearls finished each one.
Stairs red

DIES USED from Memory Box:

  • Classic Staircase 98665
  • Flying Birds 98655 (Outside the window and/or as the pottery bird on the table)
  • Grand Oak Tree 98462 (bits and pieces as the tree seen through the window)
  • Night Sky Border 98682
  • 98729 Precious Snowflakes (just the smaller bow)

DIES USED from PoppyStamps:

  • window from 883 Madison House Set
  • 897 Aston Side Table
  • 891 Small Verano Lamp
  • 859 Walking Cat
  • 860 Sitting Cat
  • 824 Breezy Wreath

  • Grand Oak Tree 98462 (bits and pieces as the tree seen through the window)
  • Night Sky Border 98682
  • 98729 Precious Snowflakes (just the smaller bow)

DIES USED from PoppyStamps:

  • window from 883 Madison House Set
  • 897 Aston Side Table
  • 891 Small Verano Lamp
  • 860 Sitting Cat
  • 824 Breezy Wreath

STAMP USED from Memory Box:

  • Pile of Gifts C308

When placing the Classic Staircase die on your paper for cutting, line it up so that you will have a nice solid base for the stairs.  By changing up the dies and stamps you use, you'll be surprised how many different ways you can use this staircase.  Add a Baby Carriage C1752 in pink or blue to welcome a new baby and tie Balloon Bundles B1740 to the staircase.  Add spider webs, ghosts, bats, and pumpkins for a Halloween card.  Try using a garland of flowers on the stair railing--PoppyStamps 820 Wildflower Patch would work tucked into the 824 Breezy Wreath garland you create.  Have fun with this great die!

Be sure to leave me a comment for your chance to win the Classic Staircase die!

Happy Crafting!

Die-Piecing

IMG_9884
I think that people are very familiar with paper-piecing and using patterned papers to "color" their stamped images.  Well, die-piecing works just as well!

For this card, I used the Mountain Village Frame die (98684).  When you cut it out, it looks like this:

IMG_9876
After I cut out the scene in white, I repeated the process again with kraft and blue paper so that I would have a sky and mountain range that I could piece into the frame.  These are the pieces I used for my card:

IMG_9877
Whenever I make Christmas cards, I think long and hard about how many cards I am going to make.  I design cards very differently if I am making one, five, twenty, or a hundred cards.  I thought that if I were making a huge number of cards or wanted quick thank you cards, I would just layer the white mountain scene onto a sapphire blue notecard and add a bit of glitter glue to the mountain caps and the horizon:

IMG_9880
For a mid-range number of Christmas cards, I cut out the white frame and pieced together the sky and mountains with colored papers (and added glitter glue):

IMG_9882
For the most elaborate card, I sponged some color onto the mountains and sky, added some color to the trees with chalk, and pieced together the houses and road.  (For the house bases I used leftover kraft pieces I had previously cut and for the roofs, I used leftover white pieces and colored them with a red marker).  To finish it, I added more glitter glue (of course):
