Springtime cards...

I taught a class at Ink About It last weekend and we made some fun Spring cards using many of the dies from the new release.   After the blizzard we had here the previous week,  I think we were all ready for some birds and flowers...   My favorite card featured the new Vintage Bicycle die (#98484) and the Resting Birds die(#98527).

MemBoxFeb2013Bike

The sentiment is "Makes Me Smile" (#B1765) stamped on a cloud cut from pool Moroccan paper.  The cloud die is #98344.  The base card is  Robin's egg.  I used a circle punched from old book paper under the larger wheel.  The metallic accents are platinum Liquid Pearls from Ranger.  The patterned paper is from Little Yellow Bicycle.  I also used some Ranger tissue tape at the bottom of the card.

Here is a picture of all of the cards we made.  I'll do a more detailed post of the other cards in another post in the near future.

Embossing With Memory Box Dies

P1050129

Everyone loves diecutting the versatile shapes and intricate designs of Memory Box and Poppystamps dies - they're perfect for dry-embossing too.  Jean Okimoto here, with a quick primer on dry-embossing with these great dies.

P1030366

I used the Grand Calibur to emboss Budding Tree for this card.  Here's the stacking sequence I recommend:  gray base plate, Memory Box Metal Adapter Plate, die face-up, watercolor paper, tan rubber embossing mat, light pink embossing plate.  I always use my dies face-up - for cutting and embossing.

Here's what I use to emboss with our dies on the Big Kick:  multi-purpose platform with Tab 2 flipped back, Memory Box Metal Adapter Plate, cutting plate, die face-up, watercolor paper, tan rubber embossing mat, cutting plate.

P1030368

Design selection is important for embossing - you'll have the best results using dies without outlined areas along the edge of the design.   For example - embossing the Twiggy Tree Die would also emboss the edge of the die between the branches.

  P1030369

To emboss with the Twiggy Tree Die - cut the tree first from lightweight cardboard using the Metal Adapter Plate and other plates required for thin metal dies.  Then use the diecut cardboard piece instead of the die to emboss your paper.

The dies are also great for embossing on velvet paper and many metallic papers - experiment with them - you'll love  the results!

Stuck in {heart} Mode!

I know, I know....Valentine's Day is long over, but apparently I'm still basking in the warm glow of L*O*V*E!  Either that, or I'm just so smitten with the most recent release from Memory Box that I just can't stop creating fun cards.

So, today I'm featuring a card using the Silverdale Heart die and the Cupid Heart die.

Silverdale Heart

I love that you can use the Silverdale Heart die for a more formal card or in this case paired with some Kraft paper for a much more casual card.

I embossed the piece of Kraft paper and attached it to a Licorice Mat and then to the front of a Crimson Note Card.  The Silverdale Heart was also die cut from Crimson paper and attached to the Cupid Heart that I cut from a piece scrap paper.  I attached a piece of baker's twine and popped up the heart with foam tape.

Looks like we've got some nasty weather coming.....time to hunker down and.....just play in my stamp room!  Talk to you soon!

Crayons for a {Card} Background

Note: Be sure to check out Deborah's post from earlier today. Just scroll down or click here. :)

Today I decided to have a little fun with Crayons on my card. If you have broken Crayons hanging around your house, don't throw them away. They are perfect to use on your paper creations for backgrounds, drippings on layouts, etc.

SmileCUaMemory Box Papers: licorice cs, raspberry nc, misc. scraps
Memory Box Stamp: Gingham Heart F1901
Stamp Ink: VersaFine onyx black
Embellishments: Blue Fern Studios Calligraphic Border (colored with Heidi Swapp Color Shine tinsel and black velvet); May Arts twine; Creative Café button and tag; Tim Holtz mini paperclip; Prima Junkyard Findings zipper; Hug Snug; sewing machine

1. Cut a 3 1/2" x 4 3/8" piece of white cardstock. I used the back of a scrap piece of Memory Box cardstock. Set aside to use quickly in Step 3.

2. Put some Crayon shavings on a craft sheet. You can do that by sharpening your Crayon piece with a pencil sharpener. I used several different colors.

3. With your heat tool, melt the wax. Quickly press down the cardstock piece set aside in Step 1 to add the wax to your cardstock. It should create various dots of wax for your background.

4. Mount that cardstock piece onto a piece of Memory Box licorice cardstock. Sew around the edges.

5. Adhere to a Memory Box raspberry notecard

6. On another Memory Box cardstock scrap, stamp the Memory Box Gingham Heart stamp {F1901} onto the white side of the cardstock using black ink. Cut out then sew around the edges. Adhere to card.

7. Add various embellishments to finish. I added hand-dyed seam binding, a button with twine, a chipboard border, a tag, and a zipper.

Thanks for stopping by. Grab those Crayon bits, some Memory Box papers, stamps, and dies, and have fun. Blessings,

Spring Cards

Hello from Sunny San Diego,

Here are 3 of the cards I will be teaching at my store The Stamp Addict on Saturday Feb. 23rd and again on Thursday Feb. 28th. I had a great deal of fun putting these cards together using some new techniques and products to embellish and accent. I hope you like them!

For the Birds!

This grand oak tree is brimming with birds and blooms. It's a litle hard to tell that Spring is on its way with reports of snow, hail and torrential rain but really, Spring IS coming and here is a preview...

IMG_5249
There's even a tire swing for those who feel that little kid inside them.  Tire swings are not the easiest to get in and out of---having any flashbacks?  Ouch!

Anyway, this card is designed to keep in touch with friends and family which is always appreciated.  Sometimes just a note to say Hello is the nicest sentiment of all.

Don't forget to design the inside of your card--it can be as simple as this...

IMG_5248Don't you just love that flourish?  It's the Chesapeake Scrollwork die and it can be oriented top, bottom, left side or right--very versatile.  I had one little orange bird left on my craft table and I think he looks right at home here.

I will be teaching this card and others on February 21st at Stamp Delights in La Mesa, Ca.  Hope to see you there!

Happy Friday

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hello My dear Stamper  Friends:

I wish you a very happy LOVE day...

Today, I would like to share some photos of a Valentine's class that I thought very recently at my local craft store...

Look all these ladies holding to their beautiful new catalogs...

Among the cards that we created it was this very cute pet one. I think animal lovers will love to receive cards with pets and Poppy Stamps have lots of them! This project was very simple to make, just die cut all you elements in the colors chosen and assemble the card...

Love pets

If you would like to see more of the cards that we did in class, click here to see a "Gatefold" love card and here for a "Heart Pocket" one with a bookmark tucked inside...

I hope I can inspire you to make some of your own, use similar colors, similar layouts, stamps and dies and create cards with your own style and imprint...

You can re-create cards inspired by these ones for mother's day, birthdays, anniversaries...use your imagination!

Ok see you soon for more inspration,

Got Kids {or Grandkids}?

For those of you with more than one kiddo or grandchild, you know that it can be difficult to keep up with their chores. Actually, they never can seem to remember whose turn it is to feed the dogs or do the dishes, etc. LOL! When we moved into our new home 7 months ago, I couldn't use our old chore chart. So, I broke out my Memory Box dies, papers, and stamps, and here is how we handle chores now:

I first stamped the Memory Box Vintage Record Sheet stamp {G1712} onto 6 different tags. I stamped two in purple, two in green, and two in red. We assigned our identical triplets colors when they were born, and 18 years later, we still use them. LOL! It works great! After stamping the tags, I trimmed them down a bit as they were going to be a bit too long.

Next, I used the Memory Box Large Typewriter Lowercase Alphabet set {98439} to die cut their initials and adhered them to each tag. I used various Memory Box 8 1/2 x 11 papers for that (violet dot, granny smith, and cranberry distressed dots). And here is how it turned out:

Each morning I just flip the tags to reveal whose turn it is for each chore. I have 4 of these hooks on this board across my laundry room wall so it is very easy for everyone to see, and it definitely keeps the bickering down to zero. What the board says goes. Yes, even at 18. LOL!

Have a blessed Valentine's Day, and I hope this is a little gift to all of you parents and grandparents out there so that you can more easily assign tasks that might help you in your home!
