A {Gift List} Tin

So, how are you enjoying the DT Blog Blitz thus far? I know I love seeing what the DT members come up with! So fun and creative. Well, for my inspiration today, I am going to share a little tin with you. With my triplets 18th birthday coming up in a couple of weeks and Christmas coming, it's that time of year when I start my gift lists, and then I turn around and lose them. Does that ever happen to you? I try to keep track of what I want to buy, what I buy, the price, etc., but it always ends up on different pieces of paper and in different places around the house. I am sure everyone knows their gifts way ahead of time by finding my lists. LOL! Anyway, for this year I have decided to create a little tin. This tin is the perfect size to keep in my purse and take with me when shopping, and I won't lose it (I hope). :) Here is what my tin looks like when completed:

Now let's see how to make this little creation. Note that I did not make it in Christmas colors because I want to be able to use this year-round for birthdays, anniversaries, etc.

Supplies

• Tin
• Sand paper
• Brayer
• Library cards or index cards
• Thin chipboard
• Memory Box Yuletide 6x6 paper pack
• Memory Box Distressed Dots vanilla bean paper
• Memory Box Distressed Dots pool paper
• Memory Box Penne Frame die 98387
• Memory Box Ribbon Candy Border die 98400
• Memory Box Tiny Tendril die 98419
• Memory Box Madeleine Bird die 98424
• Memory Box Perfect Halloween stamp B1886
• Memory Box Typewriter Upper Alphabet 98367
• Memory Box Typewriter Lower Alphabet 98366
• Memory Box white pearls
• Colorbox Fluid Chalk chestnut roan
• VersaMark
• Embossing powder (your choice)
• Copic E49
• Scor-Tape
• Collage Pauge or Mod Podge with paint brush
• Brown thread
• Sewing Machine

1. Start with a clean tin. Mine measures 5 3/8" x 4 1/2".

2. Lightly sand the tin with sand paper. This will help the adhesive and paints to stick well. Clean off the "dust" with a baby wipe and let dry.

3. Paint the edges of the lid, back, and sides. It can be messy; don't worry about being neat about it. The rest will be covered with paper. 

4. Cut two pieces of the Christmas Carols paper from the Memory Box Yuletide paper pack. Each piece of paper will cover the front and back of your tin. I like to allow a bit of my tin and paint to show so I cut the paper about 1/4" smaller than the dimensions of the tin. I picked this particular piece of paper because of its color and design.

5. Round the corners of each piece of your paper and ink the edges of your paper with Colorbox Fluid Chalk chestnut roan ink.

6. Sew around the edges of the front piece of paper and set both pieces aside.

7. Cut out the Memory Box Madeleine Bird die {98424} using very thin chipboard.

8. Cover the chipboard in VersaMark and emboss the bird and wing in any color of embossing powder you choose. I used Zing! Powder embossing powder.

9. Attach bird's wing to body and add a Memory Box white pearl colored with Copic E49 for the bird's eye. Set aside.

10. Using the Memory Box Perfect Halloween stamp {B1886} and your brown ink, ink up just the words "it's a perfect" and stamp onto the upper right-hand corner of the front paper set aside in Step 6.

11. Next die cut the word "gift" onto the brown snowflake paper from the Yuletide paper pack using the Memory Box Typewriter Upper and Lowercase dies {98366 and 98367}.

12. Adhere letters to the front paper just below the words you stamped in Step 10. I use my Xyron 'X' to put adhesive on these letters. Works perfectly!

13. Die cut the new Memory Box Penne Frame {98387} using Memory Box distressed vanilla bean paper and also adhere it to the front of your paper.

14. Now you can adhere both the front and back papers to your tin. Put Scor-Tape on the back of both pieces.

15. Put a thin layer of Collage Pauge or Mod Podge on the back of your tin. Place the back paper with the Scor-Tape on the tin and use your brayer to make sure everything adheres nicely.

16. Next, put a thin layer of Collage Pauge or Modge Podge over the back paper and let dry.

17. Repeat Steps 15 and 16 with the front paper. The front should look like this at this point.

18. Now adhere your lumpy embellishments to the front. I added burlap, Memory Box pearls, ribbon, and the chipboard bird I created in Step 9.

19. Using the Ribbon Candy Border die {98400}, die cut two pieces--one out of Memory Box Distressed Dots vanilla bean paper, and one out of Memory Box Distressed Dots pool paper. Punch out the ribbon from the pool paper only. Adhere it over the vanilla bean ribbon strip and attach to the inside of your tin for a decorative touch.

20. Create your library cards putting the name of each person on a card. I put two library cards together to make them a bit wider. They fit my tin perfectly that way. I then added the Memory Box Tiny Tendril die {98419} using distressed vanilla bean paper to add another decorative touch to each card.

Now you are ready to take your tin with you as you shop and prepare for those special occasions!
