Today's Challenge

Happy Friday Everyone!

I love to challenge myself with new techniques so here's a card that's fun to create with several steps...

Let's mix it up with a combination of stripes, solids and patterns. If they can pull it off in the fashion world so can we!
CIMG1638   I gathered a few supplies...the beautiful Peeled Paint distressed ink from Tim Holtz's collection along with a foam pad on the Inking Tool, my trusty Versamark clear ink and some detail clear embossing powder.   It's very helpful to use the non-stick craft sheet on your craft table-- it's reusable, heat resistant and it protects your work surface.

CIMG1658  Don't you just love Memory Box's charming Forget Me Not Sprig (C1041)?  I stamped it with clear ink on a panel of white card stock and embossed it with the detail clear powder.  It's a little hard to see until the next step...

CIMG1656 Start on the craft sheet, swirl the ink onto the paper without lifting up your inking tool.  This will ensure that you won't get any "hard lines" of ink on your paper except where you want it--on the very edge.  The nice slick surface of the craft sheet allows for a smooth transition onto your paper.

CIMG1657 Reload the inking tool as needed.  Lighter application of the ink will give you highlights so play around with pressure and ink intensity.  This technique works with any stamp but I like to use designs that have some solid areas so as to bring out more of the card stock color for contrast.

Now you're ready to add the finishing layers of paper and embellishments.

I layered a circle of patterned paper punched from the Frond Paper Collection and added some Gingerbread Versamagic ink around the edges.

Stamp your message and add a small metal rimmed circle right on top (attach using tiny glue dots on the underside of the metal rim).  A thin dark brown ribbon complements the colors in the patterned paper and the button accent is attached with small glue dot. Don't forget to add some pretty itty bitty mint pearl stickers here and there.

This card was fun to make and hopefully gives you a new technique to try. Push your boundaries...are you up for the challenge?  Let me know how your card turns out!

This is such a fun technique of embossing and using distressed ink and with such great results. I loved making that card in your class last night. I like the tip you mentioned here of using a stamp with some solid areas to bring out the contrast. Thanks again Jenny.
