Get Ready for Spring

Here are some of the cards I've designed recently - this one is from the Poppystamps Blog.  It combines dies from Poppystamps and Memory Box.  They are perfect together, and the Memory Box cardstock in shades of Wisteria, Aloe, Violet and Thistle make it oh-so-easy to create a spring card.  

Memory Box and Poppystamps dies are great for cutting felt too - like these flowers, cut with the Memory Box Fabulous Phlox Die 98511.  The card is posted on our Design Team Blog - view the details here.

Here's a design that was embossed instead of diecut - for a crisp white-on-white look.  Details are posted here on Outside the Box.

Journey of the Wildflowers

I love purples, greens, wildflowers and collage stamps - it was a pleasure gathering these supplies to create this card for you!  The intricate new Honeyblossom Spring Die 98333 and Crisp Bows Die Set 98197 (a favorite from an earlier holiday release)were cut using the Metal Adapter Plate along with the other plates used for thin metal dies. You don't need those fussy paper or cardstock shims anymore.

It's easy to see that my Journey Collage G1733 stamp has been on a quite a few journeys.  I used to be able to artfully arrange my supplies to hide the ink smudges covering my stamp - not anymore!   The prints from the Viola 6x6 Set are perfect for the flowers and accent strips.

Journey of Flight

Let your favorite Memory Box Dies do the work for you - like I did on this simple card.  Just diecut the Selena and Maribelle Butterflies, saving some of the little pieces to attach to the background.  

The classic Journey Collage G1733 creates a quick background.   Add a trio of mini-brads glittered with Silver Lining Glitter from Clearsnap for some sparkle...and your card is ready for a grad, new hire or world traveller.

Miracles of Springtime

Celebrate the new season with pretty colors and a bit of glitter.  Combine Poppystamps' Grand Egg Die 829, Chrysanthemum Frame G1857 -  and blendable ColorBox Lilac, Heliotrope and Pistachio Pigment Inks  - to create a delicate garden egg for your spring cards.  It's great to have the option of combining coordinating products from Memory Box and Poppystamps.

The intricate Valencia Border Die 98290 and a stamped Miracles of Springtime B1766 banner add the finishing touch.  I attached a foam dot to add dimension to the center of the banner, a technique I copied from the Impress Facebook page.  I could say I was merely "inspired" by that tip - but honestly, I just copied it.

Luck of the Irish

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with some easy diecutting - and a splash of bright Emerald Eyes Glitter.  I love how the rich tones of the Violet Notecard and Wildbloom background make the Lucky Leaves Die shamrock sparkle even more. 

The grassy border is diecut with the new Poppystamps Grassland Border - see the new dies here.  It's a must-have for Spring and Easter cards.  The Debutante Frame Die created the soft curves along the bottom of the border.

Garden Gift Tags

Memory Box stamps and dies, ColorBox inkpads -  and the promise of Spring -  inspired me to create a set of garden gift tags to tuck into a handy little tin from Basic Necessities by Clearsnap.  Hop over to the Clearsnap Altered Basics Blog Hop on March 7th and 8th for great designer projects featuring the new line of fun, functional, alter-able items - and a chance to win great prizes!

The new Memory Box stamps and dies, and a few old favorites, teamed up with ColorBox pigment, dye and chalk inkpads to create dreamy little tags in shades of green, violet and purple. Notecards in Violet (which look blue here, but are a beautiful rich bluish-purple in real life), Wisteria and Parsley were simply cut in half to create the tags, which fit perfectly in the tin.  

Attach a 3.5" square of Scor-Tape to a scrap of green cardstock and diecut Floral Square using the Metal Adapter Plate along with the plates used for thin metal dies.  Carefully remove the liner.

Spread a thin layer of Peridot Glitter on a non-stick surface (I used a cutting mat) and press the adhesive side onto the glitter.

Using a soft rubber brayer (and cleaning the brayer with a damp washcloth between inks),  layer Heliotrope, Citrine, Lilac and Lavender inks onto an 8.5" x 11" sheet white cardstock.  (Yes, the combination of colors unexpectedly created some orangey sections - but I liked it!)  Heat-set the inks with a dry iron on the cotton setting.  Cut one 3-1/8" square of the inked cardstock and round the corners. Attach it to the tin, then attach the glittered diecut. Cut the remaining cardstock into 2-1/2" x 3" pieces and set them aside.

Diecut Fringe Border, Small Pinwheel Posie and Fancy Blossoms from purple felt.  Using tweezers or a chalking tool, roll the Fringe Border into a flower, secure the end, and glue it to the tin. Starting from the outer edge, loosely roll the Small Pinwheel Posie into a flower and attach it to the tin. Layer the three Fancy Blossoms. Attach Scor-Tape to a scrap of purple cardstock and brush Grape Fizz Glitter onto the adhesive.  Punch it into 1/4" circles and attach the circles to the flowers.

Stamp the inked cardstock rectangles with the following stamp and ink combinations and emboss them with detail clear powder:

• Vintage Record Sheet+Violet, Drift Flowers+Moss Green
• Distressed Garden Record+Moss Green, Reverse Allium+Lavender
• Mercer Rose Background+Violet
• Adore Peony Collage+Guacamole
• Vintage Dreams+Guacamole, Gorgeous Mini-Bloom+Grape Slushy
• Vintage Dreams+Guacamole, Dogwood Bloom+Grape Slushy

Trim the stamped cardstock and ink the edges using the Stylus, Tip and Grape Slushy.  Cut Violet, Wisteria and Parsley Notecards into 2-3/4" x 3" folded tags. Attach the stamped pieces to the tags. Attach green, purple and light violet cords to the tags.

Papers and inks in shades of purple, chartreuse and gray - combined with Memory Box's 2012 Viola 6x6, dies and stamps...well, life can't get much better than that in my little color-centric world!  

Here's another way to mix and and layer some of the 2012 What's in the Box products. I love how Dave designs complementary products to create cards, layouts and mixed media projects that come together quickly. 

Colors match, diecuts are proportional to each other, stamps and printed papers are easy to coordinate. In a few months, seasonal color changes and new 6x6 papers can easily transform this design into cards for summer or early fall. That's the beauty of Memory Box!

Raindrops and Posies

Big Thanks to everyone who took the Fun, Fab Flowers class at Impress on Sunday!  Hope you enjoyed it and will soon have a colorful stash of flower tags to add to gifts, plants and bouquets.

The cold, rainy weather was the inspiration for today's card featuring the new Viola 6x6 Set and three dies - Orchard Tree Frame 98300, Debutante Frame 98297 and Petite Umbrella 98296.  I used the Memory Box Metal Adapter Plate (without additional tape or cardstock shims!)  to diecut this classic, timeless tree, then layered it over the Debutante Frame background.  

The Petite Umbrella has two curvey slashes to add dimension to the diecut.  Inking just along the slashes defines the shape even more - and attaching it with foam dots really makes it pop off the background. Little details like this make Memory Box Dies unique and very special.
