Hello again. I was asked about the background I used on my card today and how I stamped it straight. I thought it might be a good idea to show you a step-by-step tutorial with a few hints. Of course, if you really want things to be straight, a stamp positioner is a great tool. However, I am a bit more of a "just wing it" kind of person.
First, I stamped the words at the bottom of the page so that I could start off with a straight stamped image:
Next, I moved the stamp up so that I could clearly see the top of my stamped image as well as the bottom of the stamp. Using this orientation helps with lining things up:
Now, in the picture above, you might have noticed that the rubber doesn't look straight when I stamped it (the left side has rubber that hangs down lower than the right). Before I even started this project, I stamped the image onto scrap paper and saw that the words were indeed straight on the block. This is an important step to take if you are just going to "wing it" when lining up your images. My stamp simply has a bit of extra rubber underneath the letters "C" and "H." Therefore, when I was lining up my second stamping with my first stamping, I made sure that the WOODEN BLOCK was straight above my first set of words rather than the RUBBER.
I then moved the stamp up and repeated the process:
This is the finished background:
So, what do you do if it isn't that straight? First, you can trim off a little bit of the letters so that you don't see any white border around the letters. The white border is what will show off any misalignment. I had to do that on the card I posted earlier. Second, you can distress around the edges with ink. The extra ink will hide a multitude of errors.
Hope this helps!
