I wanted to do a card with a Christmas tree as a focal point. However, my initial design looked a little too plain to me. I decided to highlight the tree a bit more my embossing a frame around the tree. To do this, I ran a rectangle Nestability die through my Cuttlebug. Here is the order of plates to do this:
Plate A
Plate B
Tan Embossing mat
Cardstock
Nestability die (cut facing down so it will go into the embossing mat)
Plate B
Chipboard shim to help run the Cuttlebug "sandwich" through the machine.
It sounds like a lot of work, but actuality, it is really quite easy, and it gives your finished project a more elegant appearance. I then stamped the Tall Triangle (C246) inside the frame using Adirondack Citrus ink and the Tall Pine (C247) with Memento Rich Cocoa ink. I added grass green, cherry, and canary jewels to the tree and stamped Merry Christmas Script (B925) underneath the frame using the same brown ink. Here is a close up of the embossing:
On an unrelated note, Ingrid asked me about the Smooch Sprays I used on my last card. They are a relatively new product made by Clearsnap that are designed to match their bottles of Smooch. The spays come in thin glass tubes that remind me a bit of test tubes and give a pretty dynamic metallic effect.
wow! the embossing really makes it. very elegant and clean.
