6 x 6 papers on 12 x 12 pages - part four

I'm continuing my series on how to incorporate Memory Box's amazing 6 x 6 papers onto larger scrapbook pages...

Today I'm working with the beautiful Dewfrost pack.

I began with cutting a bunch of 3/4" strips - one or two from each print. I then cut these into rectangles that were 3/4 x 1 1/2". You can get four from each 3/4" strip.

I began laying them out in a random pattern around the border of my page, then matting my photo and centering it on the layout.

I knew I wanted to incorporate the Bramble Wreath stamp into my layout, so I used some Brilliance Coffee Bean to stamp it onto a solid sheet of Russian Sage paper. This stamp feels all outdoorsy and nature-y to me. Perfect for my picture.

Once I had the wreath stamped, I punched it with a large circle punch and matted it with a large brown scalloped circle. I adhered it to the page along with a matching journaling box.

 Add a title,

Some jewels,

and some journaling...

 

And you have a completed layout.

 Again, the 6 x 6 paper packs couldn't make it easier to pull together quick, easy, beautifully coordinated layouts. There's no need to agonize over what papers to use on your layout because they're already chosen for you - and they all work together perfectly.

It's a total win-win.

And now for another look at how you can incorporate 6 x 6 papers onto 12 x 12 scrapbook pages!!!

I'm using the Twilight paper pack to make a page for upcoming Halloween pictures...

I started with twelve 2 x 2 squares cut from all the prints. There are 10 different prints in each pack, so it's necessary to double up on a couple of them. No problem, because the prints are so varied it's easy to get a different look from even the same 6 x 6 piece!

I laid out the squares into two strips along the top and bottom of a 12 x 12 piece of orange Bazzill.

 

I decided to handcut a fun tree from the prints as well. Here I'm just laying it on the page to see how I like the placement...

Once I decided where I wanted it, I adhered it and added some penstitching around the edge of the design.

 

A title made from American Crafts Thickers, some more penstitching around the letters, and my page is ready to go. I'll add a photo mat once I choose my photo - it's hard to say if I'll be using a couple of 4 x 6 photos or a single 5 x 7. I love having pages ready to go for upcoming events, though! What a timesaver...

(Guess I'd better be sure one of my kids chooses a spooky costume this year. Somehow I don't think a fuzzy bunny costume is going to work on this page!)

The Memory Box 6 x 6 paper packs make pulling together a cohesive look SO easy. You get such a beautifully coordinated set of prints in each pack, it takes all the guesswork out of combining prints. That in itself is reason enough to pick one up next time you're shopping for supplies. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE working with these papers.

 

Backgrounds with 6 x 6 papers - part two

Time for another 12 x 12 page made from Dave's 6 x 6 paper packs!

For this layout, I'm working with the Spiceberry paper pack again. I pulled four patterns that looked nice together... (of course, it would be impossible to choose four from one of these packs that didn't look nice together... but that's beside the point!)

 

Once I have the four papers I like, I cut them all into 1 x 6" strips.

Then I took a 12 x 12 page (again, use the filler pages from your page protectors - a great way to put these papers to use!) and drew a grid of 6" squares on the page. This will help as I begin to lay the strips out.

 

Start with four 1 x 6" strips and adhere one into each quadrant as shown.

 

Now start taking other strips and adhering them around each quadrant. I use my scissors to trim the excess, saving the scraps because I'll need them later to fill in the squares!

 Continue working your way around the four quadrants. Your strips will get smaller and smaller as you work your way into the center of each square.

Now, I'm not a quilter. And I can't say that I know anything about Log Cabin patterns, except to say that this reminds me of one!

 

Here's the background completed.

 

And here it is with a photo mat and journaling space. I don't know what photos I'll be putting on this page, so I don't want to embellish it until I have a better idea of what kind of look I'm going for.

 

And there's another perfect example of how you can use 6 x 6 papers to make a stunning background for a  12 x 12 page!

Backgrounds with 6 x 6 papers

I'm going to be doing a series about using Memory Box  6 x 6 papers on 12 x 12 scrapbook pages... I think scrapbookers often see those darling little packs of papers and assume 'those are for cardmakers' and walk right on by! But I'm going to show you several ways to use them to create stunning backgrounds for your pages. Basically, we're going to create our own 12 x 12 pages!

For this design, start by pulling four papers from one of the paper packs. For this page, I'm using papers from the Spiceberry pack.

I like to chose prints with coordinating background colors - you can see here I chose two that are predominantly red and two that are predominantly white.

 

We're going to cut an "L" shaped corner off each piece. To do that, you'll want to line the paper up in your trimmer so the left edge of the paper is at the 5" mark on the ruler. Then cut the paper, stopping the blade at the 5" mark, making sure you don't cut the whole strip off!

 Then turn the paper counter clockwise 45 degrees. Place the left edge of the paper at the 5" mark, then place the blade of the trimmer at the 1" mark on the blade carriage ruler. Do not cut that first inch - simply lay it down at that 1" mark. It should meet your the end of the first cut you made. Then cut from the 1" mark to the end of the paper. When your cuts are complete, it should look like the picture above. 

When you've cut all four corners, you should have something resembling this:

 

Now grab a background page to use as a base. Be sure it's a true 12 x 12 page. I use the filler sheets that often come in page protectors for this.

 

Lay out the four corner pieces, adhering them to the edges of the page.

 

Now adhere the four center panels, mixing up the centers so they are next to different edge - I placed the red centers on the white edges and vice versa.

 

I took another 6 x 6 paper from the pack and mounted it to a 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" solid photo mat. I adhered this to the center of the page.

  

Add a title and a few embellishments and you've got a complete page - all ready and waiting for our annual family Christmas photo...

Who says you can't use 6 x 6 papers for 12 x 12 pages!?!

Snowman card

For today's project I'm using these two new releases... the Snowman Friends clear stamp set

and the Dewfrost 6 x 6 paper pack.

I began by choosing three papers from the paper pack. Then I stamped the snowman onto some plain white paper. I used Brilliance Pearlescent Sky Blue ink - it's the perfect frosty color! Of course, I had to stamp the snowman several times before I got the best impression... I'm silly that way.

Then I took my papers and adhered them to a Memory Box Water notecard in a landscape-ish pattern. (Sorry - couldn't think of a better way to describe that! Here's where a picture is worth a thousand words!)

I cut out my snowman and mounted him to the card, then stamped his little twig arms with Brilliance Coffee Bean.

 

Then I stamped his hat onto white paper - again with Brilliance Coffee Bean - cut it out and added it to the card - then stamped the little snowflake trio directly onto the card with the Sky Blue ink. Of course, I can't seem to walk away from any Memory Box project without adding some jewels, so I put a Lagoon Jewel in the center of each of the little snowflakes.

I stamped the 'let it snow' sign onto white with the Coffee Bean ink - cut it out and added it to my landscape. A couple of large red jewels from the new Christmas Jewels pack for snowman buttons, and I called this card finished!
