Leaf Collage, Wrapped Stitch Rectangles and Garden Sketches by Jean Okimoto

P1020040

Layer a pile of watercolored leaves  from the Leaf Collage die onto a Wrapped Stitch Rectangle for a simple fall card.  Add a greeting - and some sequins from Birch Press - and you're ready for any occasion.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a splashy, glittery card for you today.

Raid your stash for some watercolored papers in shades of orange, coral and pink.   (I'm not quite ready to completely switch over to fall colors.)  Highlight some of the papers with Imagine Crafts Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz and set them aside to dry..

Cut bright coral glittered cardstock and the watercolored papers with Leaf Collage.

Brayer Rocket Red Gold Brilliance onto smooth white cardstock.  Dry the ink.  Cut it with the 2" x 3.25" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle die.  Layer the leaves onto the rectangle

Cut an accent strip of flamingo-colored cardstock with one of the larger Wrapped Stitch Rectangle dies.  Trim it to .75" x 4.5".

Stamp the greeting - from the Garden Sketches Clear Stamp Set - onto a scrap of the watercolored paper with Peeled Paint Distress Oxide.  Heat-set the ink.  Trim the greeting with the coordinating Garden Sketches die.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded 5.5" square sage notecard - use foam dots for the greeting.

Add the dark coppery-bronze sequins from Birch Press' Not So Heavy Metal sequin set.  View the entire Birch Press collection of sequins and accents - they're perfect for fall and holiday cards - and so pretty you'll want them all!

Curved Picket Fence, Playful Boo, Tall Fern Left Corner, Swirling Ghosts and Seaweed Stalks by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxTallFernLeftCorner-MemoryBoxSwirlingGhosts-MemoryBoxCurvedPicketFence-MemoryBoxPlayfulBoo-MemoryBoxSeaweedStalks-BirchPressSequins-JeanOkimoto-DiecutHalloweenCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Swirling Ghosts are working overtime this fall - here they are again with the new Curved Picket Fence and Playful Boo.  Tall Fern Left Corner and Seaweed Stalks add a bright touch to a spooky card - it's OK to be orange today.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here - I was inspired by Donna's great card and couldn't resist making just one more Halloween card for you.

Cut Swirling Ghosts from watercolor paper.  Give the two larger ghosts some eyes with scraps of black cardstock.

Cut Tall Fern Left Corner with dark orange cardstock.

Cut two of the dotty Seaweed Stalks from orange cardstock.  Trim one of them so it's a bit shorter, and has just two branches.  This is such a versatile die set - it doesn't have to be seaweed!

Cut Curved Picket Fence from dark kraft cardstock.

Cut Playful Boo from green cardstock.

Attach everything to a Licorice Notecard - use foam dots for the tops of the two larger ghosts.

The tiny Not So Heavy Metal Sequins from Birch Press are attached upside-down here.  I thought they looked sparkly-er on the Licorice Notecard that way.  Have you seen this new collection of beautiful sequins and shimmery accents?

Deco Trees, Rectangle Basics and Merry Christmas Sentiments by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxDecoTrees-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmasSentiments-JeanOkimoto-ShizenDesignWatercolorPaper-WatercoloredChristmasCards-DistressOxides-ChristmasDiecuts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The Deco Trees die is a favorite for mass-producing cards that are easy, colorful and uniquely-yours.   Cut the watercolored background and the handmade deckle edge paper with Rectangle Basics for a perfect fit.  No measuring, guessing or thinking required!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a quick design for your holiday cards.

MemoryBoxDecoTrees-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmasSentiments-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-ChristmasDiecuts-DistressOxides-BirchPressSequins

Cut three edges of the watercolor paper with the 4" x 2.75" Rectangle Basics Die.  Cut the rectangle with the Deco Trees die.

ShizenDesignWatercolorPaper-DistressOxides-ImagineCraftsSheerShimmerSpritz-JeanOkimoto

Sponge Shizen Design cold press rough-surface watercolor paper with Twisted Citron, Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers Distress Oxides. Coloring it diagonally results in a nice distribution of these beautiful shades.  Don't try to blend the different colors - color contrasts create great impact.  Use a waterbrush to blend each color within its own area - the paper's texture creates interesting patterns and shading.  Impress just received another shipment of this watercolor paper - it's great!

Heat-set the inks.  Spritz it with Imagine Crafts Gold Sheer Shimmer Spritz, then heat-set it again.

Trim the watercolored paper with the 2.25" x 3.5" Rectangle Basics die.

Stamp the greeting from the Open Studio Merry Christmas Sentiments Clear Stamp Set with Peacock Feathers  on a top-folded 5.5" square card.

Cut strips of green and turquoise cardstock.

Assemble the card and add shimmery turquoise sequins from the Birch Press Mermaid Tale Premium Set. View the entire collection of beautiful sequins and accents here.

Snowy Spectrum, Blessed to Know You Clear Stamps and Rectangle Basics by Jean Okimoto

Let the new Snowy Spectrum, Birch Press Retro Holiday Sequins  - and Impress Sparkle Glitter -  create a sparkly winter pastel scene for your Christmas cards.  Try it in frosty turquoises or minty greens - or even warm shades of rose gold and peach too.    There are so many great products and so many ways to create unique holiday greetings for everyone on your list.

Hello and Happy Friday - Jean Okimoto here, with a quick card for you today.  It seems like we went from summer right into winter here in Seattle - so let's celebrate with a  snowflake card.

MemoryBoxSnowySpectrum-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxBlessedtoKnowYouClearStampSet-BirchPressGlitter-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-DisrtressOxides-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-SnowflakeCards-SnowflakeDiecuts-GlitteredCards-GlitterTechniques

Cut white cardstock with the 2.75" x 4" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut the rectangle with the beautiful Snowy Spectrum.

Stamp the greeting - from the Blessed To Know You Clear Stamp Set - with Picked Raspberry Distress Oxides.  Dry the ink.

Cut a rectangle of self-adhesive laminating sheet using the 2.5" x 3.75" Rectangle Basics die. Attach it behind the diecut - save the liner from the laminating sheet.  Use the liner to press the diecut firmly onto the adhesive.

Lightly sprinkle flakes of dark pink and gold chunky glitter onto the adhesive - like sprinkling a few  crystals of  sea salt over a chocolate-dipped caramel.  Use the liner to press the glitter flakes securely onto the adhesive.  Brush ultra-fine iridescent glitter over everything, tap off the excess, then use the liner to give it all a final "pressing."

Cut a piece of pink cardstock with the same 2.5" x 3.75" Rectangle Basics die.  Attach it behind the laminating sheet to create a soft pink background for the snowflakes and glitters.

Rectangle Basics dies save so much time - eliminating the measuring, guessing and hoping it'll fill in all of the cutouts.  The rectangles are perfectly proportioned for layering on A-2 cards - and they're great for A-6 cards too.  You'll be spoiled by their accuracy and versatility - and wonder how you ever made cards without them!

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded white A-2 notecard.  Add the pink sequins from the new Retro Holiday Birch Press Sequins - a pretty collection of green, pink and red accents.  See the entire collection here - you'll want all of them!

Add silver gem stickers.

I love the new ultra-smooth bright white cardstock from Impress.  It's perfect for stamping, stenciling and diecutting - and folds crisply both with and against the grain.  It's everything you could ever want from white cardstock!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at this Saturday's BOO! class at Impress.  I've added an extra card - using the negative from another class card (bonus!) - so we're making 6 cards and a treat wrapper for the tricksters.

Thanks for stopping by today...

Whimsy Cat, Circle Web Collage, and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles by Jean Okimoto

Concord Grape, Twisted Citron and Wilted Violet don't sound very Halloween-ish - but combine them with Whimsy Cats and the Circle Web Collage and they will be!   Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a few more Halloween tricks and techniques.

DistressOxides-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxFall2017-MemoryBoxHalloweenCards-DiecutCats-DiecutWebs

Cut the 3.5" x 4.75" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle from white cardstock.  Cut the rectangle with the new Circle Web Collage.  Press a piece of blue painters tape lightly against the backside of the collage to remove any wispy little cardstock remnants that would show up against the dark purple Concord Grape Notecard.

Stamp the triangles from the Bird Sanctuary Clear Stamps Set with Distress Oxide Wilted Violet.  Stamp the dots (from the same stamp set) with Twisted Citron.  I love the bonus circles, triangles and diamond shapes that are included in this great stamp set.

Cut Whimsy Cat twice from orange and black cardstock.  Layer them - a bit offset - for a shadowy effect and to add even more personality to their friendly faces.

Stamp the spiders from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamps Set with VersaFine Onyx Black.  Color the centers with a black marker.  Matching black inks can be challenging - a black Sharpie is a perfect match for Onyx Black

Attach the diecuts to the card - use foam dots for the black cat.  Add green gem stickers.

  Me-MemoryBoxHalloweenCards-DiecutCatCardds-DiecutWebCards-JeanOkimoto-DistressOxides

There's a lot happening on this card - but I hope the repetition of circles, ovals and triangles  makes it look cohesive.  What do you think?

If you're in the Seattle area, join us for the BOO! class at Impress on October 14th.  We're making 5 cards and a little treat wrapper for your favorite kids (or adults!).  We'll combine great dies from the stash with some of the latest designs from the Fall 2017 Collection.  See the Impress collection of Memory Box and Poppystamps dies and stamps here.

Garden Sketch
by Jenny Griffiths

Hello Crafty Friends!

I'm excited to share this lovely new set called Garden Sketches.  It's a clear set with coordinating dies which also include several sentiment flags--bonus!

  Garden sketch

I wanted to create clusters of these beautiful flowers which are about the size of a quarter coin so, using my stamp positioning tool, I made quick work of it.  The pigment ink colors I used were Raspberry, Sugar Plum and Orchid for the flowers and Lemon Grass, Jungle and Mint to Be for the leaves.  Inks from Avery Elle.

I also used the beautiful new Fairy Sparkle sequins from Birch Press which have a magical translucent sparkle and shine!

Garden Sketch 2

A minimal squeeze of dimensional drops in the center of each flower was a fun addition as well as the Dainty Dragonfly whizzing by.

Garden Sketch 3

I'm planning on using watercolors on these flowers and leaves for a future card--the possibilities are endless!

Thank you for stopping by today and a big thank you to all my students this past weekend who took my Memory Box Christmas Card class at The Stamp Addict--we had a ball didn't we?

Have a great week everyone!

Stitched Farm Pumpkins, Grassland Collage and Swirling Ghosts by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxStitchedFarmPumpkins-MemoryBoxGrasslandCollage-MemoryBoxSwirlingGhosts-MemoryBoxCircleBasics-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxLicoriceDots-MemoryBoxMangoDistressedDots-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxHalloweenCards-MemoryBoxCardsWithDiecuts-HalloweenCards-PumpkinDiecuts-GhostDiecuts-GooglyEyeCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

A snowman-style stack of the new Stitched Farm Pumpkins meets the Swirling Ghosts here today.  Have you noticed a lot of triple-stacked pumpkin displays lately?  I have - and although the laws of gravity (and cardmaking) would have them layered in front of the pumpkins below, I wanted the stems to show.  So here they are!

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with another matchup of old and new design elements from several releases.  A googly-eyed pumpkin cut from a portion of a Persimmon Notecard adds a bright dash of color that every Halloween card needs.

Cut Grassland Collage from orange cardstock and trim around it with the largest Rectangle Basics die.  Trim the right edge.  The Rectangle Basics and Square Basics sets are great trimmers when your design requires straight edges and uniform borders.  Using a rectangle or square die guarantees at least three straight, accurate edges - then just cut one remaining edge for a perfect frame!

Cut Mango Distressed Dots with the 1-1/4" Circle Basics Die.

Cut Swirling Ghosts from watercolor paper.

Cut Stitched Farm Pumpkins from a portion of a  Persimmon notecard,  green cardstock and Licorice Distressed Dots.

Attach the diecuts to a black A-6 (4-5/8" x 6-1/4") card - use foamdots for the two ghosts in the collage.   Add green gem stickers.

Halloween just seems to say it's OK to switch colors around a bit, add a big dotty moon  - and a cross-eyed Jack o' Lantern. Have fun with your cards - and surprise the lucky recipients this fall!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by...

Cat Tail Sunrise, Wrapped Stitch Rectangles and Halloween Sideshow by Jean Okimoto

P1010763

Cat Tail Sunrise creates a sunset backdrop for a Challenge inspiration card  - and the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamp Set and the Die Set has the perfect designs to complete the scene.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a simple fall card for you.  It's really beginning to feel like fall in Seattle, spiders and all,

P1010777

Cut half of a Persimmon Notecard with the 3.5" x 4.75" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.  Cut Cat Tail Sunrise from black cardstock - leave about 1.5" of extra cardstock at the bottom.  Trim the bottom with the same Wrapped Stitch Rectangle

Cut Mango Distressed Dots cardstock with 1.5" Circle Basics die.  Stamp the spider - from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamp Set - at the "9:00 position" of the circle with Onyx Black VersaFine.

Stamp the jolly pumpkin trio - also from the Halloween Sideshow set - on bright orange cardstock.  Heat-set the ink.  Cut them with the coordinating Halloween Sideshow dies.  Color the center with a marker.

Attach the diecuts to a Licorice Notecard - use foam dots for the pumpkins.  Add tiny copper sequins.

P1010784

I love to keep my Memory Box dies handy - and organized - with curtain rings. You already know they're great for the Circle, Square and Rectangle Basics - and the specialty sets like Wrapped Stitch Rectangles.  Use them for the "open" die sets like Halloween Sideshow too.  They're secure and won't fall off - and it's easy  to preview a diecut by keeping the die on the curtain ring and holding it over your stamped image or printed paper.

I'm headed to Impress today - my little stay-cation is almost over and I "need" to pick up a few new items for my Fall Quarter classes there.  Here's a quick list of the new classes - join us if you're in the area.  We have a large class area, the biggest and latest collection of papercrafting supplies for your fall and holiday projects - and a creative store team to help you with product selection and designs.  (They sell those curtain rings too!)

Playful Boo, Hallloween Sideshow and Seaweed Collage by Jean Okimoto

Turn the Seaweed Collage upside-down - and create a creepy vine background for some fun characters from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamp Set and Die Set.  Add a bright Playful Boo and a Seaweed Stalks diecut - and there's your card!  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a nautical scene that transformed itself into a Halloween background.

Cut black cardstock with the  2.25" x 3.5" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut it again with the Seaweed Collage.  Cut the long wavy piece from the Seaweed Stalks set.  Attach the bottom of it behind the Seaweed Collage.

Stamp two ghosts, the caterpillar and the Jack o' Lantern from the Halloween Sideshow Clear Stamps Set with Onyx Black VersaFine.  Cut them with  the coordinating Halloween Sideshow Die Set.  Color the ghosts' mouths with a pink marker.

Rough-cut a wedge from the right side of the pumpkin - and pretend the caterpillar did it.

Attach the rectangle to a top-folded dark kraft A-2 card.  Attach the ghosts with foam dots - trim the right side of the lower ghost and slide him up to the inner edge of the collage.

Attach the pumpkin.  Attach the caterpillar with foam dots.

Diecut Playful Boo from orange cardstock.

Add silver gem stickers for a bit of bling.

Playful Boo, Swirling Ghosts and Grove Collage by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSwirlingGhosts-MemoryBoxPlayfulBoo-MemoryBoxGroveCollage-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxClutchOfEggs-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxHalloweenCards-DiecutHalloweenCards-TripleChocolateKitKats-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-BirchPressDesign

Swirling Ghosts are back again - floating through the Grove Collage this time.  Two Playful Boos create a drop-shadow effect - and snack-size Kit Kats make it officially Halloween.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here today, with another combo of iconic designs from several collections.  I love how everything works together, and gives a whole new look to something "old."  This fast-paced papercrafts industry considers something old after a year, or even just a few months.

Cut the 2.75" x 4" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle from dark kraft cardstock.  Cut it again with the Grove Collage.  Cut a portion of a Persimmon Notecard with the 2.5" x 3.75" Rectangle Basics die.  These three dies are a perfect fit, there's no need to measure or trim anything - thanks Dave!

P1010734

Cut Swirling Ghosts from watercolor paper.  Save the big guy for another project. Wondering why the Clutch of Eggs set was included in the picture?  It's the easiest way to cut black cardstock to fit behind the ghosts for their eyes!  That's an extreme example of getting the most from your supplies - but it works perfectly.

MemoryBoxSwirlingGhosts-MemoryBoxPlayfulBoo-MemoryBoxGroveCollage-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemroyBoxClutchOfEggs-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxHalloweenCards-DiecutHalloweenCards-TechniquesJeanOkimoto

Cut Playful Boo from a scrap of Persimmon, and again from dark kraft cardstock.  Layer them for a cool effect.

Attach the diecuts  to a Licorice Notecard - use foam dots at the top of the ghosts so they'll look like they're floating out of the trees.  Add the tiny sequins from the Birch Press Not So Heavy Metal sequins set.  Birch Press Design is an online shop - owned by Memory Box owners Dave and Monica Brethauer - featuring upscale, trendy home products, gifts, stationary and craft products.  View their entire new Sequins Collection too!

Sad news...couldn't find any snack-size Heath Bars for my Halloween posts this year.  Found these triple-chocolate Kit Kats instead.   Would you believe that I bought them only because they matched this card and looked pretty?  Oh, sure.  I'll also be using them for my treats wrapper in the BOO! class at Impress on October 14th.

Thanks for stopping by - see you again later this week!
