Paint watercolor paper with diluted Kaleidacolor dye ink refills and heat-set it.  Flick a few water droplets onto the dried paper.  Let it air-dry, then cut it with the 3-¼" Square Basics die.

Cut Montpellier Butterfly from watercolor paper.  Remove the bottom flower and leaflet to create a new look.  It's such a versatile die - great as designed, or using just the top three or bottom three flowers with the beautiful butterfly.

Cut a coordinating turquoise vellum butterfly from the Butterfly Ensemble set.  Cut the center portion from gold mirror cardstock using the Morning Garden Butterflies die.

Stamp the greeting - from the Watching the World Bloom stamp set - on a scrap of watercolored paper with VersaMagic Turquoise Gem.  Dry the ink, then trim it with the 2" x ¾" Rectangle Basics die.

Attach everything to a top-folded smooth white 5-½" square card.  Add gold gem stickers.

Butterfly Spectacle and Watercolors
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxButterflySpectacle-MemoryBoxSquareBasics-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-JeanOkimoto-Kaleidacolors-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-DiecutButterflyCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Butterfly Spectacle is just too great to save for a warm, sunny summer day!  A cold, sunny Seattle spring day will suffice.  There are so many ways to use Butterfly Spectacle - with watercolors, vellum, powdered pigments, or layered over printed papers.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a quick watercolored backdrop for this beautiful addition to the Memory Box collection of butterfly dies.

MemoryBoxButterflySpectacle-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxSquareBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-ButterflyDiecuts-Kaleidacolor

Paint a square of watercolor paper with diluted Kaleidacolor dye ink refills.  Air-dry it for a few minutes, then spritz it lightly with water and heat-set it with a dry iron on the cotton setting.

Cut it with the 3-1/2" square die from the Square Basics set.  Cut Butterfly Spectacle from white cardstock.  Trim around it with the 3-¾" Square Basics die.

Attach Scor-Tape behind gold mirror cardstock and cut the antennae from the Morning Garden Butterflies die set.

Score, cut and fold a 5-½" square card of white cardstock.  Assemble the card.  Add lavender gem stickers.

MemoryBoxButterflySpectacle-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxSquareBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-Kaleidacolor-ButterflyDiecuts-ButterflyCraftDies

Wasn't that quick and easy?  Paint a supply of watercolor paper and have it ready for your next project.  I like painting squares of watercolor paper - about 6"x6" - so I can select the ideal section of colors for my projects.  Having a square also means you'll be able to rotate the waterolored background up to 4 times to find that perfect blend of pretty colors!

If you're in the Seattle area this weekend - join us for my last class of the quarter at Impress.  It's ASIAN DESIGNS...SIMPLY STATED - a great way to use your stash of Asian artpapers and dies from Memory Box and Poppystamps.  See you there!

Next quarter's classes have some quirky titles - but I promise they'll be colorful, fun and filled with techniques and great ways to use your supplies.  Enjoy and splurge with your 10% shopping discount too.  Here's what's coming up:

             -    RAINING CATS & DOGS on April 8

            -    GOING GREEN on April 15

            -    SUMMER HEARTS on May 13 and Memorial Day, May 29

            -    SURF & TURF on June 3

            -    SUMMER BLISS on June 17 and July 4

Thanks for stopping by - join us for Donna's great project tomorrow!

A Wildwood Collage Easter Scene
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxWildwoodCollage-MemoryBoxClutchOfEggs-MemoryBoxSpringtimeBunnies-MemoryBoxHalADozenEggs-JeanOkimoto-EasterCards-FeltEasterCards-GlitteredCardstock-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Wildwood Collage fits perfectly onto one of the Half a Dozen Eggs to create a sweet little Easter scene.  Don't you just love it when everything fits together like they were made for each other...and they were!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a fresh spring design for you today.

Are you old enough to remember those precious hollow "window" eggs with the little Easter scenes inside?   That's my inspiration today - let's make a snailmail-able version of those vintage pieces.  Yes, objects from my childhood are now officially "vintage."

MemoryBoxClutchOfEggs-MemoryBoxWildwoodCollage-MemoryBoxHalfADozenEggs-MemoryBoxSpringtimeBunnies-JeanOkimoto-FeltDiecuts-EasterCards-GlitteredEggs

Cut the big egg from the Half a Dozen Eggs set from chartreuse cardstock.  Cut the Wildwood Collage.

Attach adhesive label paper (or a sticker sheet) to white felt and cut Springtime Bunnies.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from soaking through the felt.

Cut glittered cardstock eggs using the small Clutch of Eggs dies.

Attach everything to a side-folded A-2 card of lime green cardstock.

Easter's my favorite holiday.  I love the colors, flowers, bunnies and dark chocolate eggs (not necessarily in that order) that  always make it so special, and pretty.    What's your favorite holiday?

Big thanks to everyone who took last weekend's SPRINGTIME IN SEATTLE class at Impress!  It was a chocolate-powered session - and we certainly flew through the cards and treat tote, and even ended ahead of schedule.    Thanks too - Ann and Karen - for helping us fill our baskets with all of the pretty, glittery supplies we need for Easter.

I've added a new special class from 1:00-3:00 this Saturday - it's ASIAN DESIGN...SIMPLY STATED.  We're making 7 cards, including a simple origami butterfly and a bunny with silkscreened artpapers.  It's time to stop saving those beautiful prints and start cutting them into accents, backgrounds and perfect squares for origami with our Memory Box and Poppystamps dies.

Thanks for stopping by...

Sapling Collage on the Spring Blog Blitz
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSaplingCollage-MemoryBoxSpringtimeBunnies-MemoryBoxClutchOfEggs-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-EasterCards-FeltBunnyCards-DiecutEasterCards

The new Sapling Collage is one of five fresh woodland scenes that are quickly becoming favorites in the Spring 2017 Collection.  It's easy to see why - they're versatile, great for layering and perfect for every season.  Imagine them later with tiny blossoms in the summer, ghosts and bats in the fall and bright red birds in snowy winter scenes.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here, welcome back to our blog blitz.   Here's a super-quick Easter card that takes just a few minutes.  The hardest part of it is deciding where to place those glittery eggs!

Cut chartreuse cardstock with the 2-¾" x 4" Rectangle Basics die. Cut the Sapling Collage.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to white felt and cut Springtime Bunnies.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps glue from soaking thru.

Cut glittered cardstock with Clutch of Eggs.

Attach everything to a top-folded green A-2 card.  That's it!

Want a chance to win the Sapling Collage?  Just add a comment to this post to enter our random-selection drawing for this great die.  Add your comments to all of the Design Team posts during the blitz - from March 6th through March 12th - for even more chances to win.  The entry deadline is 11:59 PM EST on Sunday March 12th.

No classes this weekend - but I'll see everyone again on March 18th for the SPRINGTIME IN SEATTLE class at Impress.

Thanks for stopping by...have a great weekend!

Butterfly Swell on the Spring Blog Blitz
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxButterflySwell-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-JeanOkimoto-BlogBlitz-WatercoloredCards-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Butterfly Swell joins our Spring Blog Blitz today!  Hello - hope you're enjoying our blitz and loving the great new dies as much as we enjoy sharing our designs with you.  Jean Okimoto here, with a watercolored butterfly design for you.

Be sure to add your comments to each designer's post throughout the blitz for a chance to win a new die from our latest collection of spring and nautical designs.  Our blitz began on March 6th  and continues through March 12th.

Here are the directions for this simple card.  Paint a background on watercolor paper.  Splotchy and bright stands out more than soft and dreamy for this design - trust me!

MemoryBoxButterflySwell-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxSpring2017-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-ButterflyCards

Cut Butterfly Swell from white cardstock and layer it over the background.  Slip the top and bottom center "tabs" behind the background to create the illusion of floating butterflies.  The die is actually designed to cut through the top and bottom portions so the butterflies are suspended between two sections of cardstock.  I decided to give it a different look here.

Trim the Butterfly Swell panel to fit onto a textured white A-6 (4-⅝" x 6-¼") card.  Round the right corners of the panel and the card.

Cut the antennae - from the new Morning Garden Butterflies Set - from pink glittered cardstock.  The Morning Garden Butterflies are designed to match the solid butterflies of the Butterfly Ensemble set too.

Add tiny clear iridescent sequins.

MemoryBoxButterflySwell-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-JeanOkimoto-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-BlogBlitz

Hope you like this colorful and easy design.  Paint a stash of watercolored backgrounds in your favorite spring and summer shades - they'll be ready when you need them for a quick card for any occasion.

Big thanks to everyone from last week's HEY THANKS class at Impress.  Hope you enjoyed the techniques - and being among the first to create cards with the Spring Release.  Everyone got to meet Steve and Quincy too!  Thanks to Ann, Shari and Erin for helping us fill those shopping baskets with the latest must-haves.

Want a chance to win the Butterfly Swell?  Just leave a comment here - and you'll be entered to win this versatile, classic design that would make a great addition to your stash of Memory Box dies.  Add your comments to all of the Design Team posts throughout the blitz for more chances to win great dies from our new collection.  The entry deadline is 11:59 PM EST on Sunday March 12th.   Good Luck!

Butterflies and Watercolored Grosgrain Ribbons
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxOpenStudioGrosgrainRibbons-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxHoneycombBackground-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredRibbons-ButterflyCards-GlitteredCardstock

Here's a simple March Challenge inspiration card with my current favorites - Morning Garden Butterflies, Butterfly Ensemble and watercolors.   It's a Ribbons Challenge - and our Grosgrain Ribbons set is perfect for the occasion too.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, sharing a quick card for anyone, anytime.

Cut scraps of watercolored paper with the three Grosgrain Ribbon dies - run the dies through the machine lengthwise for best results.  Leave the paper in the dies and dry-emboss them for added texture using the plates and embossing mat required for your machine.

Weave four horizontal and three vertical strips.  Flip everything over to the backside and tape the strips together so they're easier to work with.  Attach it to a white A-6 (4-⅝" x 6-¼") card.

Cut the solid Butterfly Ensemble butterfly from turquoise vellum.  Cut the detailed Morning Garden Butterfly from white cardstock.  Cut the center portion - from the Morning Garden set - from Rose Gold mirror cardstock.

Here's an easy, invisible way to attach the vellum butterfly - just place a narrow strip of doublestick tape on one of the horizontal strips where it will be covered by the butterflies.  It'll blend right in with the background.

Attach Scor-Tape behind blue glittered cardstock and diecut it with the Honeycomb Background die.  Instant self-adhesive glittered hexagons...a whole sheet of them for spring and summer projects!

Gather your favorite ribbons and Memory Box dies and join our March Challenge - we'd love to see your design!

Be sure to visit Impress Tukwila, University Village or online for our latest release of wonderful spring and summer dies from Memory Box and Poppystamps.  We'll be using some of them in our HEY THANKS class in Tukwila on Saturday March 4th - see you there!

Thanks for visiting...

Watching the World Bloom with the Morning Garden Butterflies
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxSquareBasicsSet-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloomStampSet-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredButterflies-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-GlitteredCardstock-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-ImagineCrafts

Wondering what the other designs from the Morning Garden Butterflies look like?  Here they are - with their matching Butterfly Ensemble backgrounds.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with more butterflies from my stash of Kaleidacolor-ed watercolor papers.

I like being able to really, really use my all of my supplies and help you do the same.  Let's  see what we can do with the three other butterflies (six in total) from these two great die sets.

MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxSquareBasicsSet-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloomStamps-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredButterflies-ImagineCrafts

Cut the three Butterfly Ensemble backgrounds from watercolored paper.  Cut the detailed matching Morning Garden Butterflies overlays from white cardstock.  Cut the antennae from the Morning Garden set from aqua glittered cardstock.  Assemble the butterflies - attach the overlay just along the center so they'll lift and flutter upwards.

Cut a 2-½" square of watercolored paper with the Square Basics die.

If your cardstock is heavily-textured, place a side-folded 5-½" x 4-⅛" card between two sheets of printer paper and run it through your diecut machine with the cutting plates to smooth it out a bit for stamping.   The card is a bit shorter than the usual 4-¼" to let the butterfly's wing extend beyond the edge  - but have the card fit into a standard A-2 envelope.  Details, details!

Stamp the greeting - from the Watching the World Bloom set with Imagine Crafts Lilac Posies Memento Luxe.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.

Assemble the card and add medium and small clear iridescent sequins.

Love butterflies - but just can't decide which Memory Box butterflies to buy?  The Morning Garden Butterflies and Butterfly Ensemble sets are the perfect choice.  Mix, match and layer these great designs for beautiful cards for any occasion!

MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloomStampSet-MemoryBoxSquareBasicsSet-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredButterflies-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-ImageineCrafts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Save the date - Saturday, February 25th is Memory Box Catalog Day at Impress!  New catalogs are arriving and will be free with your Memory Box purchase while supplies last.  Enjoy 10% off all Memory Box and Poppystamps dies too!

Thanks for visiting.  See you again next week - or at the HEY THANKS class at Impress on Saturday March 4th.

Watching the World Bloom
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxBloomingPeonyStem-MemoryBoxWatchingTheWorldBloom-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredFlowerCards-ImagineCraftsVersaFine.ImpressCardsAndCrafts

A watercolored Blooming Peony Stem adds a bit of sunshine to any day...especially a winter day!  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, determined to create something to brighten things up a bit.  Any greeting would work here - here's my favorite combination of typestyles,  from the Watching the World Bloom clear stamp set.

P1350763

I have a big stash of watercolored sheets painted with Kaleidacolors and Peerless Watercolors.  I hope this soft combination of yellows and greens promises spring will be here soon.

Cut Blooming Peony Stem from white and green cardstock.  We're using just the white negative and the green diecut today - say the other pieces for another project.  Trim the white cardstock with the 3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Attach watercolored paper behind the flower cutout.

Attach a piece of doublestick tape behind the tiny dots in the center of the peony.  Set the peony into the white cardstock background.  Brush gold glitter onto the adhesive in the tiny dots.

Stamp the greeting onto a scrap of watercolored paper with Olympia Green VersaFine.  Dry the ink and trim the paper.

Attach everything to a top-folded 5-½" square card of pale yellow-green cardstock - use foam dots for the greeting.   Add tiny pale green sequins.

Special thanks to everyone who braved Monday's cold windy rain to take the BIRTHDAY WISHES class at Impress!  I appreciate your rainy drive to Tukwila - and it was great to see those who've been taking my classes since I taught at Rubber Soul 18 years ago.  18 years!  Thanks too, Ann, Shari and Becca - for helping us fill our baskets with everything we needed to make those birthday cards - and get a headstart on spring cards.

Thanks for stopping by today - see you next time!

by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxButterlyEnsemble-MemoryBoxFollowYourBliss-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCraftsKaleidacolors-PeerlessWatercolors-WateroloredButterflies-ButterflyCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Morning Garden Butterflies Set is just what I needed to complement the Butterfly Ensemble.  It's a set of 6 delicately detailed butterflies - and antennae - designed  to coordinate with the solid shapes of the Butterfly Ensemble.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a decidedly un-seasonal design for you.  Just couldn't wait till "butterfly weather" to pair these beauties up with some paper from my stash.  It's also been a while since we last followed our bliss - let's combine everything here!

MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxFollowYourBliss-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCraftsBrilliance-WatercoloredButterflies-WatercoloredCards

Cut scraps of watercolored paper - painted in soft watery layers of Imagine Crafts Kaleidacolors and Peerless Watercolors - with 3 Butterfly Ensemble designs.  Cut the coordinating Morning Garden Butterflies overlays from white cardstock.  Cut the antennae from the Morning Garden set from gold mirror cardstock.

Cut a pale blue rectangle of watercolored paper with the 1-¾" x 3" Rectangle Basics die.

Stamp the greeting with Brilliance Pearlescent Jade and dry the ink  Cut a rectangle with  the 3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Having 16 perfectly-sized rectangles to chose from makes it so easy to get everything straight, even and just the right proportion.  Thanks Dave!

Attach everything to a Pool Notecard - use foam dots for the top corners of the wings.  Add small clear iridescent sequins.

Thanks for stopping by - hope you enjoyed a brief moment of warm weather bliss here today!  If you're in the Seattle area - join us for another BIRTHDAY WISHES class at Impress on Presidents Day, February 20th.  Make 6 cards - 3 for gals and 3 for the guys - with an array of great dies, stamps, inks and papers.

by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxDazzlingDragonfly-MemoryBoxModernBorderTrim-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCraftsKaleidacolor-ImagineCraftsDelicata-WatercoloredCards-DragonFlyCards-StenciledCards

The new Dazzling Dragonfly pauses on a shimmery gold-stenciled background from the Modern Border Trim set - clean, simple and very easy!  Hi -  Jean Okimoto here - with a quick design for your busy holiday weekend.

MemoryBoxDazzlingDragonfly-MemoryBoxModernBorderTrim-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCards-DragonflyCards-ImagineCraftsKaleidacolor-ImagineCraftsDelicata

Cut watercolor paper with the the 1-¾" x 3"  Rectangle Basics Set die.  Press the inks from  an Imagine Crafts Caribbean Sea Kaleidacolor inkpad onto a large acrylic stamp block to create a palette.  Paint the inks onto the watercolor paper with a flat paintbrush.  Dry the inks.

Diecut a stencil of  the Modern Border Trim's dotted pattern from The Crafter's Workshop stencil sheet.  Create a shimmery background by stenciling Delicata Golden Glitz onto the watercolor paper.

Diecut Dazzling Dragonfly from gold mirror cardstock.

Attach the pieces to a top-folded A-2 card of turquoise cardstock.  Add small gold sequins.

MemoryBoxDazzlingDragonfly-MemoryBoxModernBorderTrim-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCraftsKaleidacolor-ImagineCraftsDelicata-WatercoloredCards-DragonflyCards

Wasn't that easy?  If you have a few minutes - diecut and watercolor a bunch of backgrounds for your favorite Memory Box dies.  They'll be ready when you need them - and would create the perfect backdrop for butterflies and birds too.

Thanks for stopping by...see you again this evening!
