Big Butterfly Wing, Wrapped Stitch Rectangles and Kaleidacolors by Jean Okimoto

P1050473

Big Butterfly Wing and Kaleidacolor inkpads make it easy to design simple summer cards for any occasion.  Wrapped Stitch Rectangles create the perfect frame to balance the bold butterfly without competing for attention.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a quick and easy card for you.

Cut white cardstock with the 4-¼" x 5-½" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.  Cut it with Big Butterfly Wing.

P1050433

Keep the inks separated and roll a 4" soft rubber brayer over the Melon Melody Kaleidacolor.  Lift and roll the brayer towards you 10 to 15 times to ink the entire roller. Brayer the inks onto the rougher side of  watercolor paper - roll the brayer back and forth several times to transfer all of the ink to the watercolor paper.

P1050451

Use a waterbrush to move the colors around and blend them a bit.  Extend the top and bottom colors to fit the height of the butterfly diecut.  Add a light spritz of water to create a few random light and dark areas.  Dry the inks with a heat-tool.  Alternately heating both sides of the watercolor paper reduces curling.

Trim the watercolor paper using the 4" x 5-¼" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut the body/antennae section from gold glittered cardstock or heavy paper.

Attach the diecuts to an A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card of yellow cardstock.    Add green gem stickers.

P1050480

Butterflies are great with watercolors - the Big Butterfly Wing takes full advantage of them.    Kaleidacolor dye inks range from soft pastels to vibrant jewel tones.  They work like liquid watercolors and their great color combinations eliminate the guesswork of picking colors.   Brayer them directly onto the paper as we did here - or press them onto a large stamp block for a palette of five perfectly coordinated inks.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at another BUTTERFLIES AND BLOSSOMS class at Impress on the 14th.  Mix, match and layer great artpapers, felt, sequins and industrial tape on bright summer cards for birthdays, thank-yous and just to say "hello."  We'll use Big Butterfly Wing and Flitter Side Butterfly -  and the best-selling Poppystamps Plumed Peacock, with matching flowers.

Thanks for visiting - we're just one day away from the weekend!

Hutton Wreath, Thanks Jotted Script and Feathered Friends by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-MemoryBoxHuttonWreath-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards-OwlCards-ThankYouCards-DiecutThankYouCards-WreathCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-ShizenDesigns

The happy Feathered Friends owl joins the new Hutton Wreath and Thanks Jotted Script on a color-splashed thank you card today.  Hi everyone - Jean Okimoto here with some of my favorite dies - and a timesaving 3-in-1 Jotted Script technique.

I love thinking of ways to save time - the husband says I'll spend 30 minutes trying to find a way to save 30 seconds.  If everyone saved 30 seconds, it would add up, wouldn't it?  Here's how to adhere the four Jotted Script dies,  glitter-ize them and add a bit of contrast against a matching background.  Not exactly rocket-science, but it's foolproof and sparkly!

MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards

Attach Scor-Tape to coral creme cardstock and diecut the Thanks Jotted Script background.  Cut the delicate "thanks" from dark brown cardstock.

MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCoCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Carefully press the delicate diecut onto the adhesive-covered background diecut.  Place the liner over it and give it an extra press.  Brush ultra-fine iridescent glitter over the remaining exposed adhesive.  I love the Impress Sparkle Glitter...it's almost time to buy another jar!

Cut Hutton Wreath from green cardstock.

Cut Feathered Friends Deep Edge Dies owl from screenprinted paper.  Cut the face from natural cardstock.  Cut the wing from gold wrinkled paper.  Both papers are from Shizen Designs - I got mine from Impress.  The eyes and beak are on the same die - cut them from orange cardstock.  Use a marker to color the eyes black.

Attach the diecuts to an A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card of coral creme cardstock.  Add peachy-pink gem stickers.

We're loving the "Jotteds" - it's hard not to use them.  I'll use them for stenciling on a future card.  Or cut the bold outline from the front of the card, then attach the delicate script on the inside to create a word window card.   So many possibilities!

Thanks for visiting - keep cool!

Birthday Jotted Script, Rolling Wave Collage and Family of Fish by Jean Okimoto

The new Birthday Jotted Script joins the Family of Fish and Rolling Wave Collage for a summer celebration today.  Hello everyone, Jean Okimoto here with a bit of inspiration for the July Surf and Turf Challenge.

MemoryBoxRollingWaveCollage-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Cut turquoise cardstock with the 3-¼" Square Basics die.

Here's a tip...attach the Rolling Wave Collage to the square with a piece of rolled painter's tape placed  in the off-cut section that won't be used on the card.  It's OK if the tape damages the cardstock there.

Cut Family of Fish from a portion of a Persimmon Notecard.  Remove two of the fish near the bottom left.  Keep the single fish - he'll be attached near the top of the group.

Cut the Birthday Jotted Script background from dark gray and light gray cardstock.

MemoryBoxBirthdayJottedScript-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Another tip...scrunch a piece of waxed paper and rub it briskly over the delicate Birthday Jotted Script die before cutting.  This makes it quick and easy to remove intricate diecuts.  Cut it from turquoise cardstock.  Be sure to save the tiny dot for the "i" - and attach it to the dark gray birthday background die.

Attach the turquoise birthday diecut to the dark gray background, then attach them to the light gray background.  A triple layer adds dimension and color contrast.

Stamp the greeting - from the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set - on natural cardstock with Habanero VersaFine.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.

Attach the diecuts and the greeting to a side-folded 5-½" square card of dark gray cardstock.  Add dark orange sequins.

Square cards require extra postage - but I think this bright combo of circles and squares will make it an extra-special birthday for your favorite guy.

Big thanks to everyone who joined us for the first BUTTERFLIES + BLOSSOMS class at Impress on July 4th!  Hope you liked those splashy colors, techniques, screenprinted papers - and new Memory Box and Poppystamps dies.  Thanks too - Karen and Becca - for arranging the classroom and helping us find the perfect supplies for our summer projects.  Big thanks to Jan too - for those special 4th of July treats!

Have a wonderful weekend - hope you'll join us again tomorrow for Penny's great card...

Wave Ribbon Collage, Thanks Jotted Script and Forget Me Not Blooms by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxWaveRibbonCollage-MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-MemoryBoxForgetMeNotBlooms-MenoryBoxNotecards-JeanOkimoto-CardsWithMemoryBoxDiecuts-DiecutFlowerCards-DiecutThankYouCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Wave Ribbon Collage and Thanks Jotted Script have become instant favorites - and it's easy to see why!  Add some blossoms from the Forget Me Not Blooms set for a quick see-through card that works for any occasion.

Hi everyone, Jean Okimoto here with another idea featuring the Summer 2018 Collection. Duo-tone Memory Box Notecards are great for the Wave Ribbon Collage - the vibrant outer colors contrast against the crisp white interior and create some very cool shadow effects as the card is opened.

MemoryBoxWaveRibbonCollage-MemoryBoxForgetMeNotBlooms-MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCards-MemoryBoxFlowerDiecuts-JeanOkimoto

Cut an unfolded Key Lime Notecard with the Wave Ribbon Collage.  Cut Thanks Jotted Script from a portion of a Key Lime Notecard for the background - and a darker green for the delicate script.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to bright orange felt and cut the blossoms from the Forget Me Not Blooms set. The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from saturating the felt.  Cut another set of blossoms from white cardstock. "Sandwich" the delicate green stem lines between the felt and white blossoms.  This creates a clean back view and sturdy base for the felt pieces.

Attach the greeting and add clear gem stickers...5 instead of my usual 3!

MemoryBoxWaveRibbonCollage-MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-MemoryBoxForgetMeNotBlooms-JeanOkimoto-CardsWithMemoryBoxDiecuts-DiecutFlowerCards-DiecutThankYouCards

Wave Ribbon Collage can be used in so many ways.  Create an underwater scene and add  strands of seaweed. Turn it horizontally for waves on a beachy summer card.  Transform the delicate lines into balloon strings too.  It can be quite scary in black on a spooky Halloween card.  Laura wove strips of artpapers from her stash thru the collage for a very cool look.

I love designing with abstract dies like Wave Ribbon Collage - hope you do too!  There are so many ways to use the great dies from our Summer 2018 Collection.  We appreciate your support and choice of Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press products - personally designed by Dave Brethauer and proudly made in the USA.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at this weekend's SURF + TURF class at Impress!  Yes, we'll be using Wave Ribbon Collage as a backdrop for a very easy* (*promise!!) origami fish.  Impress just received more great screenprints from Shizen Designs..can't wait to use them too!

Thanks for stopping by - see you again here on Saturday, or at Impress...

MemoryBoxFlitterSideButterfly-MemoryBoxThanksJottedScript-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxButterflies-MemoryBoxButterflyCards-ButterflyCards-WatercoloredCards-ImagineCrafts-Kaleidacolor-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Flitter Side Butterfly and Thanks Jotted Script add a breezy touch to any card - here's a bright summer design for you.   Hello, Jean Okimoto here with more designs from the Summer 2018 Collection.

Paint watercolor paper with diluted Kaleidacolor Dye Ink Refills - leave a few white areas for contrast.  Spritz it lightly with water, then heat-set it.  Cut it with the 1-¾" x 3" Rectangle Basics die.

Attach Scor-Tape to the top of coral creme cardstock and cut the solid Flitter Side Butterfly.  Cut the detailed Flitter Side Butterfly from gray cardstock.

Remove the tape liner and attach the detailed butterfly - slightly offset.  Brush clear iridescent glitter onto the remaining adhesive to create a very sparkly butterfly.

Diecut Thanks Jotted Script from coral creme and gray cardstock.  Layer the pieces - adhere the first and last letters, then adhere the remaining letters.

Cut a 1-¾" x 3-¾" strip of coral creme cardstock.

Attach everything to a top-folded A-2 card of gray cardstock - use foamdots for the right edge of the butterfly.  Add peachy-pink gemstickers

The loose, elegant typestyle of the four Jotted Script dies makes it easy to add a fresh, contemporary look to cards.planners and layouts.  A few tiny dots of glue adheres the layers.  You'll see a lot of Jotted Script cards here on our blog!

Thanks very much for stopping by again...enjoy the weather and have a great weekend!

New Summer Meadow Collage and Awesome Jotted Script by Jean Okimoto

Butterflies and blossoms from the just-released Summer Meadow Collage create the perfect backdrop for the new Awesome Jotted Script set.  Add a watercolored background and pale turquoise gem stickers and you'll have a sweet card for a very special person.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with more inspiration from our Summer 2018 Collection.

P1050026

Cut white cardstock with the 3-¾" x 4-¾" Pinpoint Rectangle Layer.  Cut Summer Meadow Collage - save the center offcut.  This die is designed to  cut a delicate frame with an open center.  We'll recyle the offcut to create a solid background for the greeting here.

Paint watercolor paper with pale, diluted layers of Kaleidacolor ink refills.  They're perfect as liquid watercolors - and come in over 50 great shades ranging from soft pastels to bright jewel tones.  Airdry it for a few minutes, give it light spritz of water to soften the colors,  then heat-set it.  Cut it with the same Pinpoint Rectangle Layer die.

Stamp the greeting - from the Spring Lilacs Clear Stamps - on the collage offcut with Starlite Black Brilliance.

Cut the delicate Awesome Jotted Script from dark gray cardstock.  Cut the background from pink cardstock.  Here's a tip to make layering quick and easy...attach both ends of the delicate script to the matching background first, then secure the remaining portion.  You'll never run out of background - or have too much background.

Attach the diecuts to a 5-½" square white card.  Add pale turquoise gem stickers.

MemoryBoxAwesomeJottedScript-MemoryBoxSummerMeadowCollage-MemoryBoxSpringLilacsClearStamps-MemoryBoxPinpointRectangleLayers-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-DiecutButterflyCards-WatercoloredButterflyCards-Kaleidacolor-BrillianceInkpads-ImagineCrafts

There are three other Jotted Script die sets - birthday, thanks and wonderful - and we love all of them too!  They may look fragile - but they're easy to diecut.  Trust me - I cut twelve "awesome" sets and twelve "thanks"  for last week's Summer Hearts class in just a few minutes.

Special thanks to everyone from the BEYOND THE BOX and SUMMER HEARTS classes at Impress last weekend.  I appreciate how so many of you took both classes - and drove or ferried to Tukwila for the entire day!  Thanks too - Shari and Laura - for helping everyone fill their baskets.

Thanks for visiting - see you again tomorrow...

Left Hutton Gate, Dazzling Dragonfly and Little Dragonflies by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxDazzlingDragonfly-MemoryBoxLeftHuttonGate-MemoryBoxLittleDragonflies-MemoryBoxCircleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecuts-CardsWithMemoryBoxDies-DragonflyCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Looking for another simple summer design?  The Left Hutton Gate creates a great frame for a gold Dazzling Dragonfly.  It's both bold and delicate, like the dragonfly.  Add a pair of Little Dragonflies as accents to balance the composition, and your card is done!    Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a quick card that will be ready for any occasion.

Scrunch a sheet of waxed paper and rub it briskly over the Left Hutton Gate to help release the little pieces.  Cut Left Hutton Gate from black cardstock.

Cut red cardstock with the 2-¼" Circle Basics die.

Attach Scor-Tape behind gold mirror cardstock and cut Dazzling Dragonfly.

Attach Scor-Tape behind black cardstock and cut Little Dragonflies.

Attach the diecuts to an A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card of recycled kraft cardstock.  Add tiny black sequins.

MemoryBoxLeftHuttonGate-MemoryBoxDazzlingDragonfly-MemoryBoxLittleDragonflies-MemoryBoxCircleBasics-JeanOkimoto-CardsWithMemoryBoxDies-DragonflyCards

The Left and Right Hutton Gates are a versatile backdrop for any season - and they're especially great for summer cards.   They complement Memory Box butterflies, birds and flowers too -  and can be used separately, or in pairs.  Planning ahead?  The Huttons could also add a spooky touch to a Halloween card -  imagine a little ghost peering through the semicircle.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at this Saturday's classes at Impress!  There's a repeat of the BEYOND THE BOX class, using Memory Box and Poppystamps designs as Dave intended - and in a few unexpected ways too.  The afternoon's SUMMER HEARTS class takes great heart-themed cards beyond Valentine designs.  I've re-designed some of my heart cards to take advantage of the Summer Release dies that start shipping to retailers on June 15th.

Thanks for stopping by - hope you'll be back for Laura's great card on Friday!

Quick Bunnies and Stitched Rain Boots aren't just for spring...they can multi-task on summer cards too!  My cocker spaniels and I see more June bunnies than Easter bunnies - and rain boots work as garden boots  throughout the year.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with with a spring-into-summer card designed get the most from some favorite dies.

Attach lavender duct tape to a scrap of lightweight cardstock and cut Vintage Watering Can.   Memory Box dies are great for cutting duct tape and colored masking tape.  Just attach the duct tape to lightweight cardstock, then diecut it.

Attach packing tape or glossy laminate to turquoise cardstock and cut Stitched Rain Boots.  This gives the cardstock a shiny, waterproof look.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to brown felt and cut Quick Bunnies.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from saturating it.

Stamp the greeting - from the Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set - on pale green cardstock with VersaFineClair Fantasia.  Dry the ink, then trim the cardstock with the ¾" x 2" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut the Green Folia screenprinted paper from Birch Press Design with the 2" x 3-¼" Rectangle Basics die.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded A-2 card of pale green cardstock - use foam dots for the greeting and the boot on the right.  Add turquoise gem stickers.

Put those sweet Spring Release bunny dies to work throughout the year.  Brown or grey felt adds to their versatility as everyday woodland creatures.   I enjoy using my Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press products in as many ways as possible -  hope you do too!

Everglade Collage looks like the perfect background for a trio of flamingo-colored Elegant Shorebirds.  Tuck one behind the leafy edge and layer the others over the collage for a bit of dimension.  Add a quick greeting - and your card is ready to go!

Hello, Jean Okimoto here with another quick and easy design today.  Cut white cardstock and watercolor paper with the 4.4" Stitched Oval Layer die.  Cut the cardstock oval with the Everglade Collage.

Press the orange, yellow and pink inks from the Kaleidacolor Luau inkpad onto an acrylic stamp block.  Paint diluted, blended layers of the inks onto the watercolor paper oval. Air-dry it for a few minutes.  Spritz it lightly with water -  daub the darker areas with paper towel to lighten some areas if necessary.  Heat-set the inks.

Cut Elegant Shorebirds from flamingo cardstock.  Mask the adjacent areas and daub VersaFine Clair Nocturne onto the legs and beaks.  Trim the legs and beaks from the black birds and layer it  - slightly offset - behind the others for dimension.

Score, cut and fold a white A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card.  Stamp the greeting - from the Sentimental Iris Clear Stamps Set - with VersaFine Clair Glamorous.

Attach the diecuts to the card.  Add black gem stickers.

Sweet Seal, Seaweed Collage and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSweetSeal-MemoryBoxSeaweedCollage-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecuts-MemoryBoxCardsWithDiecuts-NauticalCards-WatercoloredCards-ImagineCrafts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Turn Seaweed Collage on its side and tuck Sweet Seal behind it a bit for a sweet and simple summer card that's great for any occasion.  It could be a hello, thank you or thinking of you card - or just a surprise greeting to brighten someone's day.  I hope it makes them smile!

Hi there, Jean Okimoto here with a quick card for a busy summer weekend.

MemoryBoxSeaweedCollage-MemoryBoxSweetSeal-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecuts-CardsWithMemoryBoxDiecuts-NauticalCards

Press the inks from a vivid Caribbean Sea Kaleidacolor inkpad onto a large acrylic block.  Spritz it lightly with water, then drag watercolor paper through the blended inks.  Air-dry it for a few minutes.  Spritz it again, then heat-set it.

Cut ultra-smooth white cardstock with the 2-¾" x 4" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle die.  Cut it with Seaweed Collage.

Cut the dried watercolored paper with the 2-½" x 3-¾" Rectangle Basics die.  No measuring needed and it fits neatly behind the collage without any edges peeking through.

Cut Sweet Seal from gray and black cardstock.  Layer the black piece  - slightly offset - behind the gray for dimension.  Attach a scrap of black cardstock behind the face.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded turquoise A-2 card.  Add yellow gem stickers.

MemoryBoxSweetSeal-MemoryBoxSeaweedCollage-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecuts-NauticalCards-WatercoloredCards

Simple variations - like turning a diecut sideways, pressure-embossing instead of diecutting or using just portions of a stamp or die are just a few of the many creative options to explore with Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press products.  Experiment and you'll discover how easy it is to get the most from your stash of these great designs.  That's what we'll be doing in our BEYOND THE BOX class at Impress on Monday May 28th!

Thanks for stopping by - have a safe and enjoyable weekend...
