Tiny Ornament Triplet, Snowflake Wire and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles by Jean Okimoto

Tiny Ornament Triplet - one of three triplet sets - is great for a less-is-more design!  Add a delicate Snowflake Wire, glitter and the "little things" greeting from the Garden Sketches coordinating clear stamp and die sets.  Merry and minimal!

Hope you're enjoying your weekend - Jean Okimoto here tonight - with a simple little design for you.  The Tiny Ornament Triplet set confused me at first - I'm very easily confused.  Cut it from different shades of cardstock and play with the layering combinations - and you'll love the designs you can create.

MemoryBoxTinyOrnamentTriplet-MemoryBoxSnowflakeWire-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto-OrnamentCards-MemoryBoxChristmasCards

Cut bright fuchsia cardstock with the 2" x 3-¼" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle and the 5-ornament die.

Cut green and lime cardstock with the 1-¾" x 3" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut the green rectangle with the 4-ornament die.  Cut the lime rectangle with the 3-ornament die.

Layer the 3 rectangles and cover the entire back with Scor-tape.  Brush Impress Sparkle Glitter onto the adhesive in the first, third and fifth ornaments.  Shop the Impress collections of Memory Box and Poppystamps while you're there!

Cut Snowflake Wire from white cardstock.

Stamp the greeting - from the Garden Sketches Clear Stamp Set - on lime carstock with Black Soot Distress Oxides and emboss it with detail clear powder.  Cut it with the matching die from the Garden Sketches Die Set.

MemoryBoxTinyOrnamentTriplet-MemoryBoxSnowflakeWire-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxOpenStudioGardenSketches-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-SnowflakeCards-OrnamentCards

Attach everything to a side-folded white A-2 card.  Add gold gem stickers.

I'll be designing more cards featuring the Triplet Dies - you'll love how they work together to create cool, contemporary designs.  I enjoy making cards that have people asking "how do you do that?" - and sharing the process with you.  Thank goodness for Memory Box and Dave's designs - imagine a world without dies!

Thanks for stopping by - see you again next week.

Feathered Friends Deep Edge Dies, Snowflake Ring and Circle Basics by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxSnowflakeRing-MemoryBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmasSentimentsClearStamps-MemoryBoxCircleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxChristmasDesigns-BirdCards-SnowflakeCards-ShizenDesigns-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Let a festive member of the new Feathered Friends Deep Edge Dies trio brighten your holiday cards.  This cheery bird would be happy in any color combo - like pinks and reds for your favorite gal-friends.  Or "he"  would be great in greens and blues for the guys, especially those Seahawks fans.  Keep the gray background and white Snowflake Ring - just change the accent strips, circle and gem stickers.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here today, with the details behind my December Challenge inspiration card.  The Feathered Friends Deep Edge dies are great with felt, heavy handmade artpapers, cork, fabric and wood veneer strips.  I've chosen some of my favorite papers  from Shizen Design - the pretty pink/red print and embossed red floral pattern.  Bits of felt create the eye, beak and rosy cheek.

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxSnowflakeRing-MemoryBoxCircleBasics-MemoryBoxMerryChristmasSentimentsClearStamps-JeanOkimoto

Diecut the shapes from artpapers.  Cut the background from neutral cardstock.  Cut the facial features from black, orange and pale peach wool-blend felt backed with a layer of adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet.  The backing stabilizes the little pieces and keep adhesives from soaking through.

Cut the white Snowflake Ring and a light pink Circle Basics background to fit behind the ring.  Stamp the greeting - from the Open Studio Merry Christmas Sentiments Clear Stamp Set - with Iced Spruce Distress Oxides.  Cut a ¾" x 5-⅝" strip of red cardstock.

Attach Scor-Tape to bright pink cardstock and cut a 4-¾" x ¾" strip.  Brush ultra-fine iridescent glitter over the adhesive.  Impress Sparkle Glitter makes anything look great - even those scary shades of cardstock and strange printed papers hiding in your stash!  It's just $4.95 for a generous supply of this wonderful stuff.

Attach everything to a gray A-6 (4-⅝" x 6-¼") card - use foamdots for the bird.  Add red gem stickers.

Thanks for stopping by - hope you'll be inspired to create unique and special cards for everyone on your Christmas list.  See you again this evening...I'll be switching from today's  big bird to tiny ornaments for tonight's card!

Classic Ice Skates, Dancing Snowflake Oval and Delicate Stitched Snowflakes by Jean Okimoto

Rose Gold, Classic Ice Skates and glitter...a simple combination for a frosty Christmas design.  It's sweet, sparkly and shimmery - like icing on a special winter dessert.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, sharing a card in my favorite new pastels - hope you like them too!

MemoryBoxClassicIceSkates-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxDancingSnowflakeOval-MemoryBoxDelicateStitchedSnowflakes-JeanOkimoto

Cut Dancing Snowflake Oval from white cardstock and leave it in the die.  Replace the cutting plate with the rubber embossing mat and plates required for dry embossing on your diecut machine.  Dry-emboss the diecut to add extra dimension to the delicate design.

Cut pale gray and pale peach cardstock with the second-largest Stitched Snowflake Oval.

Cut three snowflakes from iridescent rose gold cardstock with the Delicate Stitched Snowflake dies.

MemoryBoxClassicIceSkates-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Classic Ice Skates is a beautiful - and delicate - design.  I cut 26 of them for class kits last weekend using this simple technique.  Place a layer of mid-weight plastic - like a piece from an Impress shopping bag - between the die and the cardstock before running it through the machine.  The smooth plastic helps release the diecut - just peel the plastic from it - then carefully wiggle and pull the negative sections away from the diecut instead of pulling on the diecut.

It's also great being able to tape the die to the plastic and not ruin any of the surrounding glitter cardstock when you remove it.

Stamp the greeting - from the Open Studio Blessed to Know You Clear Stamp Set - on pale gray cardstock with Starlite Black Brilliance.  It's a shimmery blend of Starlight Silver and Graphite Black Inks.  Dry the ink, then diecut the greeting with a die from the Rectangle Basics set.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded 5-½" square card of pale peach cardstock - use foam dots for the skates.

Thanks for stopping by.  I'll be sharing more ideas on Saturday - hope to see you then!  (Also hope you won't get tired of seeing me so often this week.)

New Build A Snowman and Wrapped Circles by Jean Okimoto

If it's too cold (or too warm) to be outside building a snowman - let the new Build A Snowman die set create one for you!  Crisp white, holiday brights, red felt and glitter help him stand out against a Wrapped Circle background of neutral kraft cardstock.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a collage-y winter design for you.  Imagine the Resting Bird is a resting dove - and create a folksy little homespun " joy, love and peace" design with bits and pieces from the stash.

MemoryBoxBuildASnowman-MemoryBoxWrappedCircles-MemoryBoxSnowmanCollage-JeanOkimoto

Although I switched things out a bit with the striped print for the hat here, the Build a Snowman set is specially designed so the diecut pieces of the same color are together.  It's so easy to cut the white snowman and hat trimmings, orange carrot noses (in two styles!), black for the eyes and buttons, dark brown twig arms,  and the red hat and scarf.  Thanks Dave!

My original pouf for the hat was from watercolor paper - but I re-cut it from a wide green stripe on the printed paper for a bit more color.

Cut the snowman and snowflakes from the Snowdrift Breeze from watercolor paper.

Cut the hat and scarf from red felt - attached to adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet for stability and to keep adhesives from soaking through.

Cut the bird (from the Resting Birds set) and the heart (from the Snowman Collage set) from red glitter cardstock.

Cut the Wrapped Circle background from kraft cardstock.  Wrapped Circles are great for standout backgrounds that complement - but don't compete with - your design elements.

Assemble the snowman.  Attach the diecuts to a kraft card - use foam dots for the snowman.

MemoryBoxBuildASnowman-MemoryBoxWrappedCircles-MemoryBoxRestingBirds-MemoryBoxSnowmanCollage-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecutCards-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-SnowmanCards-DiecutSnowman-SnowflakeCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Don't let freezing temps - or tropical breezes - keep you from building a snowman.  He'd be great on a gift tag,  diecut ornament or on thank you cards for the great gifts you'll be receiving.  The Build a Snowman set is a must-have for your collection of holiday dies!

Celebrate Shop Small Day on Saturday, November 25th at both Impress stores - receive a special gift from Impress with your purchase of $30 or more!  Bring your Memory Box and Poppystamps wishlist with you - then match the great dies with your favorites from  the huge assortment of  papers, felt, glitter, sequins and inks waiting for your holiday projects.

Join us for classes at Impress on the 25th too.  We're making 7 deceptively quick and easy cards in MERRY AND QUICK at 10:30.  Stay for the GIFT TAG PORTFOLIO class at 1:30 too.  You'll make a pretty little fold-out portfolio and fill it with 8 colorful tags - and I've added a bonus candy card to the class for the special folks on your list too!

Thanks for stopping by - have a great weekend!

Birthday Wishes with Feathered Friends, Wrapped Circles and Swooping Branches and Leaves by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriends-MemoryBoxSwoopingBranchesAndLeaves-MemoryBoxWrappedCircles-MemoryBoxOpenStudioGardenSketchesDies-MemoryBoxOpenStudioGardenSketchesClearStamps-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxBirthdayCards-DiecutBirthdayCards-ShizenDesign-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-FeltDiecuts

Send birthday wishes to someone a year older - but wiser - with the happy owl from the new Deep Edge Feathered Friends and Deep Edge Swooping Branches and Leaves.  This big, bright owl is framed by the new Wrapped Circles diecuts.  So many dies, so many ways to use them!

Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with another matchup of innovative Memory Box dies and beautiful printed and embossed papers from Shizen Design.  Deep Edge dies are specially-designed for heavier, thicker materials and multiple layers of diecutting.  They're great for quilters, fabric artists and teachers who need to cut duplicates for their students.  The heavy artpapers are made from cotton fabric scraps from the t-shirt industry - but the dies cut right through with clean smooth edges, without leftover bits of threads and fibers.

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriends-MemoryBoxSwoopingBranchesAndLeaves-MemoryBoxWrappedCircles-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDeepEdgeDies

Cut two Wrapped Circles from white cardstock.

Cut two Swooping Branches from cardboard and layer them for dimension.

Attach adhesive label paper or sticker sheets to black, peach, light orange and dark orange felt.  Diecut the owl's face, eyes, beak and rosy cheeks.  (I borrowed the smaller rosy cheeks die from the birds.)   The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from soaking through.  Assemble that sweet face - it'll make anyone smile, even on their birthday!

Cut the wing from dark orange felt and black cardstock - it's easy to cut both layers with the Deep Edge Dies.

Cut the rest of the owl from the floral print and black cardstock - again, both layers at once.

Attach the black diecuts  - slightly offset for a shadow effect - behind the wing and owl.

Cut the leaves from embossed paper.

Stamp the greeting - from the Open Studio Garden Sketches Clear Stamp Set - on turquoise cardstock with Onyx Black VersaFine.  Dry the ink, then diecut the strip with the coordinating Garden Sketches die.

Attach the diecuts to a white A-6 (4-5/8" x 6-1/4") card - use foamdots for the center and top of the owl.  Add gold gem stickers.  The card's thickness will probably require extra postage - but it celebrates a special day!

Big thanks to everyone from Sunday's Asian Holiday Greetings class!  It was great to meet so many new students - and Memory Box fans - and to see my friends again.  Special thanks to Ann and Becca - for keeping us well-stocked with artpapers, washi tape and Memory Box and Poppystamps dies!

Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating on Thursday!  If you're in the Seattle area - save Saturday the 25th  for two holiday classes at Impress.  It's MERRY AND QUICK at 10:30 - 7 quick and easy Christmas cards that don't look quick and easy.

The GIFT TAG PORTFOLIO class starts at 1:30.  We're making a fold-out portfolio and filling it with 8 colorful tags.  It's a great little gift - and it can be mailed in an A-6 envelope too.   As a bonus, I've added a candy card to the class - perfect for  delivering a holiday treat to the special people on your list. Of course we'll have to sample a bit of that chocolate too!

Thanks for stopping by - see you again on Friday!

NEW Feathered Friends and Swooping Leaves and Branches Deep Edge Dies by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriends-MemoryBoxSwoopingBranchesAndLeaves-MemoryBoxOrnamentCapsAndHooks-MemoryBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmasSentimentsClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-DeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-ShizenDesign, DiecutChristmasCards-BirdDiecutCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Meet the new Feathered Friends Deep Edge Dies.  They're from our  Winter 2017 Release - and  great for Christmas ornaments, placecards, gift tags -  and cards throughout the year.  They pair nicely with the new Swooping Leaves and Branches Deep Edge Dies too!

Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with one of many cards I'll be making with these sweet birds.  Deep Edge dies are designed to cut through multiple layers at once to save time.  They're great for cutting some of the challenging materials we love - heavy felt, vinyl, fabric, wood veneer and handmade papers like these beautiful silkscreened and embossed prints from Shizen Design.

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriends-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDeepEdgeDies-ShizenDesign

Want a way to select the perfect section of printed paper for your projects? Diecut the shape from a contrasting piece of  cardstock - save the negative.  Slide it over the paper until you find the perfect mix of colors and patterns for your diecut.  Place the die into the negative to position it and diecut the paper.  I cut several birds from similar areas of this red and coral fan-shaped print for future cards.

Here are some suggestions from Laura.  Layer deep edge dies like your other metal dies using the same die cutting "sandwich" if you are cutting only one layer at a time. When cutting multiple layers at once - include a metal adapter plate in the sandwich  - and cut into the metal plate for precise cuts.  This will eventually warp your metal plate, but the upside is that you will save yourself tons of time cutting out all your projects.

Cut the wings and top layers of the birds from patterned and embossed papers.  Cut gold mirror cardstock with largest hooks from the Ornament Caps and Hooks set.

Cut the beaks, eyes and cheeks from orange, black and peach felt attached to adhesive label paper or sticker sheets.  The backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from soaking through.

Attach the patterned papers and felt to a  bird background - use foam dots near the center of the wing.

Attach the hook behind the decorated bird.  Attach the second bird background behind it to create a nice finished back view.

Attach Scor-tape behind lightweight wood veneer and diecut the branch.  Cut the leaves from textured paper.

Stamp the greeting - from the Merry Christmas Sentiments Clear Stamp Set - on a  top-folded 5.5" square white card with Distress Oxides Candied Apple. Heat-set the ink.  I love the Ultra-Smooth White Cardstock from Impress - it's perfect for stamping and diecutting their collection of Memory Box and Poppystamps dies

Attach the bird to the card with foam dots - don't attach the ornament hook to the card.  Attach the branch - securing the end of the hook under it.  Add the leaves and red gem stickers.

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxSwoopingBranchesAndLeavesDeepEdgeDies-JeanOkimoto

The Feathered Friends set contains 12 dies and Swooping Branches and Leaves has 4 dies.  Slip them onto curtain rings to keep them organized and ready for your next project.  Curtain rings are a strange thing to find in a papercrafting store - but Impress sells them to keep die sets organized...and together!

Snowy Pine, Slider Grooves, Snowdrift Breeze and Rectangle Basics by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSnowyPine-MemoryBoxSliderGrooves-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxSnowdriftBreeze-MemoryBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmasSentiments-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDies-GiftcardHolders-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-ChristmasTreeCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Snowy Pine, Snowdrift Breeze snowflakes, Rectangle Basics and Slider Grooves team up to create a shimmery Christmas design that's also a giftcard holder.  Hello - Jean Okimoto here - sharing another card designed to get the most use from your Memory Box dies.

MemoryBoxSnowyPine-MemoryBoxSliderGrooves-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxSnowdriftBreeze-MemoyBoxOpenStudioMerryChristmaSentimentsClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-GiftcardHolders-DiecutChristmaCards-DiecutGiftcardHolders

Giftcards are always appreciated - but slipping them into a card just doesn't seem special enough.  Slider Grooves will diecut a cool, curvey custom tuck-in slot for the perfect presentation.  Now isn't that better?

Cut pearlescent graphite cardstock to 6-1/4" x 11".  Score it at 4-5/8"  and 9-1/4" to create an inside pocket.  Diecut a Slider Groove slot near the left edge of the narrow bottom panel.  Fold it up and attach the sides to the card.  Attach a gluedot on a blank area on the back of  the giftcard to secure it.

Cut Snowy Pine from silver glitter cardstock.

Cut pear cardstock with the 2-1/4 x 3-1/2" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut a strip of red cardstock.

Cut Snowdrift Breeze from watercolor paper and remove the snowflakes.

Stamp the greeting - from the Open Studio Merry Christmas Sentiments Clear Stamp Set - on pear cardstock with Candied Apple Distress Oxides.  Dry the ink.  Trim it with the 1" x 2-1/4"Rectangle Basics die.

Assemble the card and add red gem stickers.

Everyone loves a giftcard  from their favorite store - receiving it in your special card makes it even better.  Of course you can use Slider Grooves to make slider cards too!

Big thanks to everyone from last weekend's ASIAN HOLIDAY GREETINGS  class at Impress! Hope you liked the simplicity of the designs and the beautiful silkscreened papers cut with Memory Box and Poppystamps dies.  Thanks too - Ann, Erin and Lauren - for filling our shopping baskets with the latest/greatest supplies.  I've added a second class to the schedule - it's on Sunday November 19th if you weren't able to attend the previous class.

If  Veterans Day is a holiday for you (or even if it isn't!) - join us for the MERRY AND QUICK class at Impress.  We're making 7 deceptively-simple cards that don't look quick and easy - but they will be!  No origami, I promise.

Thanks for stopping by...why not spend a few minutes making some giftcards for the holidays?  They'll  be ready when you need them in December.

Poinsettia Blooms, Holly Collage and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxPoinsettiaBlooms-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxOpenStudioBlessedToKnowYouClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxChristmasCards-PoinsettiaCards-DiecutChristmasCards

Poinsettia Blooms, Holly Collage and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles create a classic holiday design here today.  Red velvet - the paper, not the cake (!) - adds texture and dimension to this traditional scene. I almost want to apologize for a traditional design in red and greens because it's so unusual for me!   Hello - Jean Okimoto here today - Happy Halloween to everyone celebrating this spooky holiday.

Cut several layers of Poinsettia Blooms from red velvet paper - the dies cut crisply and emboss them at the same time.  Cut the centers from yellow glittered cardstock.

Cut the 2" x 3.25" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle from textured pale green cardstock.

Cut the Holly Collage and the Poinsettia Blooms pods from green cardstock.

Stamp "CHRISTMAS WISHES" - from the Blessed to Know You clear stamp set - on an pale green A-2 card with Peeled Paint Distress Oxides.

Assemble the card and add clear gem stickers.

Quick and easy!

Big thanks to everyone from last weekend's COOL WINTER WISHES from SEATTLE class at Impress!  Hope you enjoyed the class and all of the techniques - and were inspired to create more cards featuring Memory Box, Poppystamps, Open Studio and the great Seattle companies we're fortunate to call our own.  Thanks too - Ann, Shari and Lauren - for keeping us well-stocked and filling those baskets with everything we need for our holiday cards!

ShizenDesign-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-JeanOkimoto

Looking forward to this weekend's ASIAN HOLIDAY GREETINGS class at Impress too. We're making six Asian-inspired designs - including a simple origami bird and Christmas tree -  with great dies, accents and artpapers.  Here's a picture of a few of the beautiful silkscreened and printed papers we'll be using.  Do you have a stash of artpapers but hesitate to cut them with trimmers, punches or scissors because they tear and shred?  Memory Box and Poppystamps dies are the solution!  They cut these textured handmade papers as easily as they cut through cardstock - and create perfect squares for all of your origami projects.

Thanks for stopping by...
