Vintage Watering Can, Quick Bunnies and Stitched Rain Boots by Jean Okimoto

Quick Bunnies and Stitched Rain Boots aren't just for spring...they can multi-task on summer cards too!  My cocker spaniels and I see more June bunnies than Easter bunnies - and rain boots work as garden boots  throughout the year.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with with a spring-into-summer card designed get the most from some favorite dies.

Attach lavender duct tape to a scrap of lightweight cardstock and cut Vintage Watering Can.   Memory Box dies are great for cutting duct tape and colored masking tape.  Just attach the duct tape to lightweight cardstock, then diecut it.

Attach packing tape or glossy laminate to turquoise cardstock and cut Stitched Rain Boots.  This gives the cardstock a shiny, waterproof look.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to brown felt and cut Quick Bunnies.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from saturating it.

Stamp the greeting - from the Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set - on pale green cardstock with VersaFineClair Fantasia.  Dry the ink, then trim the cardstock with the ¾" x 2" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut the Green Folia screenprinted paper from Birch Press Design with the 2" x 3-¼" Rectangle Basics die.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded A-2 card of pale green cardstock - use foam dots for the greeting and the boot on the right.  Add turquoise gem stickers.

Put those sweet Spring Release bunny dies to work throughout the year.  Brown or grey felt adds to their versatility as everyday woodland creatures.   I enjoy using my Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press products in as many ways as possible -  hope you do too!

Thanks for visiting...

Set a Garden Scene with the Glorious Floral Stem by Jean Okimoto

P1040384

The Glorious Floral Stem sets the scene for an afternoon of spring gardening with the Vintage Watering Can and Stitched Boots.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a garden greeting today.

Cut watercolor paper with the  3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Paint in shades of green, yellow and orange from the Melon Melody Kaleidacolor inkpad.  Spritz it with water, dry it for a few minutes, then heat-set with an embossing tool.

Stamp the flowers from the Garden Sketches Clear Stamps Set on watercolor ink with Nocturne VersaFine Clair.  Quickly emboss it with detail clear powder.  Place the die from the matching Garden Sketches Die Set over the image and sponge it with Cheerful VersaFine Clair.  Diecut it, and two more.

Cut Glorious Floral Stem from green cardstock, remove the flowers.

Cut Vintage Watering Can from copper metallic cardstock.

Attach glossy laminate over Key Lime Dots cardstock to create a shiny surface for the rainboots.  Diecut it with Stitched Rainboots.

Stamp the greeting from the Garden Sketches set with Nocturne and emboss it.  Cut it with the matching die.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded A-2 card of green textured cardstock.

Add yellow-green gem stickers.

Mix and match your Memory Box stamps and dies as we did here - it gives you so many additional options for unique cards.  Use your supplies in out-of-the box ways - you'll be surprised at how many combinations you'll discover!

Special thanks for everyone who took last Sunday's GREEN GREETINGS class.  Recycling can be a creative way to add texture, dimension and interest to your cards.  Thanks too - Ann and Becca - for helping everyone fill their baskets and take advantage of last weekend's spring sale.

Forget Me Not Blooms, Garden Sketches and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles
by Jean Okimoto

Let's make some bright, glossy Forget Me Not Blooms with a VersaFine Clair inkpad for a quick accent on a colorful thank you card.  It's an easy, economical way to customize matching accents for spring and summer cards.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here tonight - on my 500th post here on Outside the Box.  No, I didn't really count them, but Typepad does.  This card was created to thank you for visiting our blog - and for all of your sweet and thoughtful comments.  I appreciate them - and you (!) - and hope you've been inspired to get the most from your personal Memory Box Collection of dies, stamps and papers.

MemoryBoxForgetMeNotBlooms-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxOpenStudioGardenSketches-VersaFineClair-Kaleidacolors-ImagineCrafts

Brayer vibrant orange Summertime VersaFine Clair onto smooth white cardstock.  Quickly heat-emboss it with clear powder.  Emboss the warm ink again with another layer of clear powder.  Diecut several sets of the flowers from the Forget Me Not Blooms from the cooled embossed cardstock.  They'll be glossy and bright, and great for layering onto the card.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to green cardstock and cut the Forget Me Not Blooms stem.  The paper backing adds dimension - without the tedious layering and glueing of multiple pieces.

Press the inks from the Kaleidacolor Melon Melody inkpad onto a large acrylic block.  Spritz watercolor paper with water, then paint it in loose, overlapping layers of ink.  Air-dry it, then spritz it with water.  Dry it with a heat-tool.  Diecut it with the 2"x3-¼" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.

Cut white cardstock with the 2-¾" x 4" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.

Stamp the greeting - from the Open Studio Garden Sketches Clear Stamps Set - with Green Oasis VersaFine Clair.   Emboss it with detail clear powder. Cut it with the banner design from the coordinating Garden Sketches Die Set.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded white A-2 card - use foam dots for the greeting.  Add lime green gem stickers.

Think of all the glossy, bright accents  you can create with Memory Box dies and embossed VersaFine Clairs!  Flowers, butterflies, leaves, fishes, hearts, stars, hexagons, dots - and more.  Be sure to have your embossing powder and heat-tool ready - the Clairs dry pretty quickly.

BIG THANKS  for stopping by - today, and for the previous 499 posts.  I appreciate your visits - and the privilege of designing for Memory Box.  Thanks Dave and Monica!

Jumbo Peony, Rectangle Basics and Honeycomb Square by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxJumboPeony-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxHoneycombSquare-MemoryBoxNotecards-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecutCards-WatercoloredCards-DiecutFlowerCards-WashiTapeCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

A watercolored Jumbo Peony meets matching washi tapes from Birch Press Design on a quick card for a busy spring weekend. Add a trio of glittery Honeycomb Square hexagons for sparkly accents and your card is ready for any occasion.

Happy weekend - Jean Okimoto here with a quick card in some of my favorite colors.  Hope you like them too!

MemoryBoxJumboPeony,MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxHoneycombSquare,BirchPressDesignWashiTapes-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecutCards

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to the smoother side of watercolor paper.  It keeps all of the pieces together when you cut the Jumbo Peony.  Carefully remove everything from the die with the pieces intact.

Press Wilted Violet, Lucky Clover and Salty Ocean Distress Oxides onto an acrylic stamp block.  Paint the peony in loose, overlapping layers of diluted inks and set it aside to dry.

Diecut Jumbo Peony from watercolor paper - toss the little pieces and attach the delicate diecut to the dry watercolored background.

Cut turquoise cardstock with the 1-¾" x 3" Rectangle Basics die.  You'll never have to guess about the right dimensions for layers and backgrounds if the Rectangle Basics set is part of your Memory Box stash.  The 16 versatile dies are perfectly proportioned for A-2 cards - and they're great for A-6 cards too!

Attach strips of washi tape from the Birch Press Design collection to a Violet Notecard.  I love how the tapes' colors change when they're layered over bright backgrounds.

Cut purple glittered cardstock with the Honeycomb Square for DIY instant bling.

MemoryBoxHoneycombSquare-JeanOkimoto

Here's a tip - use Honeycomb Square to cut Scor-Tape sheets into perfectly-sized sticky-dots to attach the glittered hexagons.  Attach it to a scrap of brightly-colored cardstock so it's easy to find when you need it.

Use a piercing tool to position the top liner and adhesive wherever you want to attach an accent.  Remove the liner, press your sequin or hexagon securely onto the adhesive. Use the blunt end of the piercing tool to give it an extra press.  That's it - no glues to dry, set up or squish out.

Take a few minutes to create a quick card (and maybe a few extra watercolored backgrounds) - and have a great weekend!  Thanks for visiting...join us again tomorrow for Penny's great card.

Plush Narrow Succulent, Little Dragonflies and Honeycomb Square by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxPlushNarrowSucculent,MemoryBoxLittleDragonflies,MemoryBoxRectangleBasics,MemoryBoxHoneycombBackground,BirchPressDesignTimeToCelebrate-JeanOkimoto-FeltFlowers-FeltFlowerCards-HandmadePapers-ShizenDesign-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

A deconstructed Plush Narrow Succulent becomes a felt flower on a spring card here...just another outside-the-box way to use one of the popular die sets from the Plush Collection.  The Lavender Folia Handmade Paper from Birch Press Design creates a leafy background to match a trio of Little Dragonflies.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here combining an assortment of different textures and materials with one great feature in common - they all cut perfectly with Memory Box dies!  Handmade screenprinted papers, wool-blend felt and glittered cardstock are beautiful additions to any project - but can be challenging to cut with scissors, paper trimmers, punches and rotary cutters.  Cutting them with dies from Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press Design makes it quick and easy, with perfect results.

MemoryBoxPlushNarrowSucculent-MemoryBoxLittleDragonflies-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxHoneycombBackground-BirchPressDesignTimeToCelebrateClearStamps-JeanOkimoto

Cut the Folia leafprint with the 2-½" x 3-¾" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut the Plush Narrow Succulent petals and centers from purple felt.

Cut Little Dragonflies and Honeycomb Square from gold glittered cardstock.

Layer the individual petals and glue them in pairs.  Attach them around a 1-½" circle of scrap cardboard.  It's easier to work with them that way - and you can rotate the entire flower to find the perfect spot for them when assembling the card.  Attach the two center layers and a glittered hexagon.

Stamp the greeting - from the Time to Celebrate Clear Stamp Set - on a side-folded 5-½" square gray card with Wilted Violet Distress Oxide.  Purple Delight VersaFine Clair would be a great ink for this too if you can find it.  I've ordered one from Impress and look forward to using it here and in classes.

Attach the diecuts to the card...that's it!  Square cards and multiple layers require extra postage - but I hope you'll agree that this card is worth the effort, and a few extra cents.

Forget Me Not Blooms, Grass Stitched Circle Frame and Garden Sketches by Jean Okimoto

Let's scatter some Forget Me Not Blooms flowertops across the Grass Stitched Circle Frame for a fresh spring greeting.  A Garden Sketches greeting banner, glittery Wink of Stella highlights and gem stickers add pretty accents.

Hello, Jean Okimoto here with the details behind my April Floral Challenge inspiration card.  It's great to go through my stash of watercolored papers and find just the right colors for a background.  Imagine Crafts Kaleidacolor dye ink refills were used here.  Add a few dotty accents in Brilliance Pearlescent Jade with a design from the Open Studio Bird Sanctuary Clear Stamp Set.  Cut it with the 2-¾" Square Basics die.

MemoryBoxForgetMeNotBlooms-MemoryBoxGrassStitchedCircleFrame-MemoryBoxSquareBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioGardenSketches-MemoryBoxOpenStudioBirdSanctuary-JeanOkimoto-ImagineCrafts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-DiecutCards-DiecutWatercolorCards-DiecutFlowerCards

Cut a bunch of flowers from the Forget Me Not Blooms set from scraps of the watercolored paper.  The little blossoms aren't attached to the stems - it's quick and easy to cut them separately, without the delicate stems.

Stamp the greeting from the Garden Sketches Clear Stamp Set on the ultra-smooth Bright White Cardstock from Impress with Memento Grape Jelly.  Dry the ink, then cut it with the matching Garden Sketches die.  We love this smooth white cardstock for stamping, diecutting and crisp white cards!

Cut Grass Stitched Circle Frame from the same Bright White Cardstock.

Attach two strips of Pastel Purple washi tape - one of the many pretty colors and patterns from Birch Press Designs - to a side-folded A-2 card of...yes, Bright White Cardstock.  Attach the diecuts - use foam dots for the greeting.

Highlight the flower centers with clear glittered Wink of Stella.  Add light purple gem stickers.

Snow Bunny, Spring Bunnies Cupcakes and a Carrot by Jean Okimoto

Let the Deep Edge Dies Snow Bunny -  and cupcakes from the Spring Bunnies Clear Stamps -  brighten someone's day.  Washi tape from Birch Press Design adds dotty accents and a splash of color to the big bunny.  Sparkly pink gemstones are the finishing touch.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with a basic design that's easily transformed to greet any occasion.

Pick your favorite cupcake flavor - raspberry, lemon, blueberry, lime or carrot.  I hope it's carrot cake today.

MemoryBoxSnowBunnyDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringBunniesClearStamps-MemoryBoxSpringBunniesDieSet-BirchPressDesignWashiTape-JeanOkimoto-DiecutBunnyCards-DiecutWashiTape

Stamp the cupcakes - from the Open Studio Spring Bunnies Clear Stamp Set - on the smoother side of watercolor paper with Nocturne VersaFine Clair.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.  If you like Onyx Black VersaFine - you will LOVE Nocturne.  It's a deeper, darker black that's great for solid images and delicate, detailed designs too.

Press the inks from the Bouquet Kaleidacolor inkpad onto a large acrylic stamp block.  Paint the cupcakes, dry the inks, and diecut it with the coordinating die from the Spring Bunnies die set.  Paint it carefully and neatly inside the lines - or quickly and outside the lines,  as I did.

Diecut a second piece from watercolor paper and attach it behind the stamped piece for more dimension.

Stamp, emboss, paint and diecut a carrot.

Diecut the Snow Bunny  from textured white cardstock.  Attach Birch Press Designs Dot Lime Tape to a scrap of white cardstock and cut the ear and midsection accent pieces.

Paint a dot of pink ink and two dots of a black marker onto watercolor paper and diecut the eyes and nose.

Crease one of the arm pieces and attach the carrot in the fold.

Stamp the greeting on a top-folded 5-½" square gray card with Sunshine VersaFine Clair.  Attach the diecuts and gem stickers.

Enjoy using  the Snow Bunny and Spring Bunnies sets throughout the year - not just for their namesake winter and spring seasons.  They're great for birthdays, thank yous and baby cards - and whenever you want to make someone smile.  Hope this brightened your day!

Thanks for visiting - see you again this evening...

Spring Bunnies Dies, Spring Bunnies Clear Stamps and Half a Dozen Eggs by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringBunniesClearStamps-MemoryBoxSpringBunniesDieSet-MemoryBoxHalfADozenEggs-JeanOkimoto-BirchPressDesign-DiecutEasterCards-BunnyCards-DiecutWashiTape-EggCards-VersaFineClair-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

An assortment of chocolate Spring Bunnies and a Birch Press washi tape egg venture a bit outside the box here today now that spring has officially arrived.  We hope!  Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a just-in-time Easter design for you.

MemoryBoxHalfADozenEggs-BirchPressDesign-JeanOkimoto-DiecutWashiTape-WashiTapeEggs

It's easy to create some great custom-colored washi tape backgrounds for diecutting.  Just attach them to bright cardstock and let a bit of the background show through the lighter areas of the tape.  Cut it with a die from the Half a Dozen Eggs set.  I love how these three tapes - from Birch Press Design - were instantly transformed into a coordinating backdrop of greens and blues for my bunnies.  (Yes, half a dozen usually means 6 - but the smallest egg somehow slipped away from the others during the photos.)

The pressure of diecutting washi tape also bonds the tapes securely to the cardstock backing.  These pretty tapes won't be peeling away or curling before they reach their destination.

Cut an extra egg from the smoother side of textured cardstock for a background layer with textural contrast.

MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringBunniesClearStamps-VersaFineClair-JeanOkimoto-HalfADozenEggsDies

Don't you just love the different personalities reflected in the expressions on the bunny faces?  It's a great stamp set for any occasion - look at those cupcakes!

Stamp the bunnies  - from the Open Studio Spring Bunnies Clear Stamp Set - on the smoother side of watercolor paper with the new Pinecone VersaFine Clair.  Emboss it with detail clear powder.

Here's an embossing tip that I've shared in classes - wave the heat tool a few inches from the backside of the stamped, powdered image for a few seconds to preheat the embossing powder first.  Complete the embossing from the right side - as usual - for a quick, glossy finish without overheating or scorching the image.

Instead of applying watercolor pencils directly to the stamped image - and risk scraping the embossed design -  scribble them  onto a scrap of watercolor paper and use it as a palette to dissolve and blend the colors first.

Color the bunnies, blot them to be sure they're dry, then cut them with the coordinating die from the Spring Bunnies Die Set.  Diecut an extra layer of plain watercolor paper and attach it behind the stamped layer for dimension.  Attach everything to a top-folded A-2 card of textured green cardstock.  Add yellow gem stickers.

Big thanks to everyone who took last weekend's PAPER AND INKOLLAGE class at Impress!  I appreciate your driving, ferrying or flying from Canada, Spokane and cities near and far for my class.  Hope you liked the cards - and enjoy using the "extras" on future projects.  Thanks too - Ann, Shari, Erin and Laura - for helping everyone fill their shopping baskets.

Left Hutton Gate, Simple Chicks and Sweet Bunny by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxLeftHuttonGate-MemoryBoxSimpleChicks-MemoryBoxSweetBunny-MemoryBoxHalfADozenEggs-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCards-DiecutEasterCards-ChickCards-BunnyCards-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-LawnFawnSimplyPlaidSpring

The new Left Hutton Gate - sideways - creates a leafy setting for two Simple Chicks and the Sweet Bunny.  Add one of the Half a Dozen Eggs - cut from Lawn Fawn's Simply Plaid Spring prints - for a quick Easter card.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with an outside-the-box way to use the just-released Left Hutton Gate horizontally instead of vertically, as intended.

MemoryBoxLeftHuttonGate-MemoryBoxSimpleChicks-MemoryBoxSweetBunny-MemoryBoxHalfADozenEggs-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxCards-DiecutEasterCards-ChickCards-BunnyCards-LawnFawnSimplyPlaidSpring

Cut the Left Hutton Gate from light green cardstock.

Cut two small Simple Chicks from bright yellow cardstock.  Attach scraps of flamingo cardstock behind them for beaks.

Cut Sweet Bunny from white cardstock.  Use a black marker to scribble black dots on a scrap of flamingo cardstock and place it behind the bunny for a nose and eyes.

Cut the second-largest egg from the Half A Dozen Eggs set from Lawn Fawn's Simply Plaid Spring paper.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded A2 card of textured green cardstock.  Save some time by attaching just the straight edges of the Left Hutton Gate so you can tuck the egg and bunny behind it.  A bit of glue behind the chick twins will secure the curved edge.

Add orange gem stickers for a contrasting pop of color.

MemoryBoxLeftHuttonGate-MemoryBoxRightHuttonGate-MemoryBoxSimpleChicks-MemoryBoxSweetBunny-MemoryBoxHalfADozenEggs-JeanOkimoto-LawnFawnSimplyPlaidSpring

The new Left and Right Hutton Gates are actually a coordinating pair designed to be displayed vertically.  Add them to your collection for spring and summer cards - or for romantic designs for Valentines and weddings.  Scatter flowers, birds or butterflies among the lacy leaves too!

Happy Spring
by Sharon Harnist

Happy Spring, Friends!  The Spring rainy season has been here and now green is popping up everywhere ... I love it!  To celebrate, I thought these adorable Spring Bunnies would be appropriate!

3-10 SpringBunnies-SH

Aren't those bunnies adorable?!!  I stamped them in Memento Gray Flannel ink, then colored them with Copic T0, T1, T2, and gave them rosy cheeks and pink ears with Copic R00 and R20.  Next, I die cut Blossom Circle from a green alcohol ink background paper I created with Copic Various Ink Refills and glued it in place around the bunnies.  Next, I used Broadsworth Floral Border to cut the card front right edge of my white top-folding card base.  Then I glued a strip of pink alcohol ink background paper to the inside of the card, to make the delicate die cut edge pop.

3-10 SpringBunniesProd-SH

To finish the card, I stamped the "happy spring" sentiment from the Spring Bunnies stamp set with Memento Rose Bud ink.

3-10 Spring BunniesCU-SH

I hope you are enjoying a nice Spring weekend wherever you are!

- Sharonsig
