Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a simple design that's easy to customize in your favorite colors.

Paint a watercolored background of Kaleidacolor dye ink refills.  Air-dry it for a few minutes while you diecut a white Vine Butterfly and some glittered Mini Butterflies.  Lightly spritz the background to create little spots and specks - then heat-set it.

Cut it with the 2" x 3-¼" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle.

Stamp the greeting - from the Bird Sanctuary Clear Stamps Set - on a white A-2 card with Verdant VersaFine Clair.

Attach the diecuts - and there's your card!

MemoryBoxReverseButterflyCollage-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles,MemoryBoxHoneycombSquare-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxButterflies-MemoryBoxCards-WatercoloredButterflies-Watercolored Butterflies-JeanOkimoto-ImpressCardsAdCrafts-ImagineCrafts

A summer favorite - the classic Reverse Butterfly Collage - is great for a watercolored card.   Add a trio of glittered hexagons from the Honeycomb Square for  sparkly accents and it's ready for any occasion.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here with a simple summer design for you.

MemoryBoxReverseButterflyCollage-MemoryBoxHoneycombSquare-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto

Cut smooth white cardstock and watercolor paper with the 4-¼" x 5-½" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle die.  Cut the white cardstock with the Reverse Butterfly Collage.

Paint the watercolor paper with diluted,  overlapping layers of Kaleidacolor Dye Ink Refills - they're great as  liquid watercolors.  Air-dry it for a few minutes, then lightly spritz it with water.  Heat-set it.  Trim the edges just a tiny bit so they don't unexpectedly peek out along the sides of the card

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded A-2 card of smooth white cardstock.

Cut three of the butterfly center/antennae from the Morning Garden Butterflies set from gold mirror cardstock.

Cut purple glitter cardstock with the Honeycomb Square die to create a stash of sparkly little hexagon accents.

MemoryBoxReverseButterlyCollage-MemoryBoxHoneyCombSquare-JeanOkimoto

Paint some extra watercolor papers while your supplies are still out and you'll have a stash of pretty backgrounds for future projects.

Big Thanks to everyone from Monday's BEYOND THE BOX Memory Box class at Impress.  Hope you liked the cards - and the different ways we used our Memory Box and Poppystamps dies and stamps.  Special thanks too - Shari, Becca and Erin - for all of your help!  We'll  have a second BEYOND THE BOX class on June 16th, followed by the SUMMER HEARTS class.

Thanks very much for stopping by - see you again this weekend...

Sweet Seal, Seaweed Collage and Wrapped Stitch Rectangles by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxSweetSeal-MemoryBoxSeaweedCollage-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecuts-MemoryBoxCardsWithDiecuts-NauticalCards-WatercoloredCards-ImagineCrafts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Turn Seaweed Collage on its side and tuck Sweet Seal behind it a bit for a sweet and simple summer card that's great for any occasion.  It could be a hello, thank you or thinking of you card - or just a surprise greeting to brighten someone's day.  I hope it makes them smile!

Hi there, Jean Okimoto here with a quick card for a busy summer weekend.

MemoryBoxSeaweedCollage-MemoryBoxSweetSeal-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecuts-CardsWithMemoryBoxDiecuts-NauticalCards

Press the inks from a vivid Caribbean Sea Kaleidacolor inkpad onto a large acrylic block.  Spritz it lightly with water, then drag watercolor paper through the blended inks.  Air-dry it for a few minutes.  Spritz it again, then heat-set it.

Cut ultra-smooth white cardstock with the 2-¾" x 4" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle die.  Cut it with Seaweed Collage.

Cut the dried watercolored paper with the 2-½" x 3-¾" Rectangle Basics die.  No measuring needed and it fits neatly behind the collage without any edges peeking through.

Cut Sweet Seal from gray and black cardstock.  Layer the black piece  - slightly offset - behind the gray for dimension.  Attach a scrap of black cardstock behind the face.

Attach the diecuts to a side-folded turquoise A-2 card.  Add yellow gem stickers.

MemoryBoxSweetSeal-MemoryBoxSeaweedCollage-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecuts-NauticalCards-WatercoloredCards

Simple variations - like turning a diecut sideways, pressure-embossing instead of diecutting or using just portions of a stamp or die are just a few of the many creative options to explore with Memory Box, Poppystamps and Birch Press products.  Experiment and you'll discover how easy it is to get the most from your stash of these great designs.  That's what we'll be doing in our BEYOND THE BOX class at Impress on Monday May 28th!

Thanks for stopping by - have a safe and enjoyable weekend...

Elegant Shorebirds and Cat Tail Sunrise by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxElegantShorebirds-MemoryBoxCatTailSunrise-MemoryBoxHoneycombSquare-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiesCards-MemoryBoxBirds-FlamingoCards-DiecutBirds-ImagineCrafts-VersaFineClair-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The Elegant Shorebirds pose as flamingos and the Cat Tail Sunrise frames a watercolored sunset on a summer card today.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here sharing a sunny-day idea that takes Memory Box dies a bit beyond their original, intended designs.

Cut Elegant Shorebirds from flamingo cardstock.  Mask them with scraps of paper and sponge VersaFine Clair Nocturne on their beaks and legs to create a trio of flamingo-wannabes.

Spritz a light mist of water onto watercolor paper.  Paint it in pale, overlapping shades of pink, yellow, and coral - and a light tinge of gray in a few areas.  Imagine Crafts Kaleidacolor Dye Ink Refills were used as liquid watercolors here.  Air-dry it, then spritz it with a fine mist of Imagine Crafts Gold Sheer Shimmer.  Heat-set the inks.

Cut it with the 2-¼" x 3-½" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut gray cardstock with Cat Tail Sunrise.  Trim it with the same Rectangle Basics die - keep the cutting edge of the rectangle away from the delicate circle.  Trim the spikey tips of any cattails that were cut off.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded A-2 card of coral creme cardstock.  I've used the smoother side of textured cardstock here

Cut little coral glittered hexagons with the Honeycomb Square.  It's the perfect size for bright sparkly accents - try it with mirror cardstock too.

We appreciate your support of Memory Box designs and hope you'll experiment with different ways to use them - as intended, or in your unique creative ways!  Thanks for visiting...see you soon!

Grassland Collage with Little Dragonflies and Forget Me Not Blooms by Jean Okimoto

Grassland Collage, Little Dragonflies and Forget Me Not Blooms create an Asian-themed bit of May Challenge inspiration here today.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a simple design for a quick card.

MemoryBoxGrasslandCollage-MemoryBoxLittleDragonflies-MemoryBoxForgetMeNotBlooms-MemoryBoxCircleBasics-JeanOkimoto-VersaFineClair

Cut black cardstock with the 4" x 5-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut it with the Grassland Collage.

Cut a silvery printed moon with the 1-¼" Circle Basics die.  It's one of our most popular designs at Impress!

Brayer Glamorous VersaFine Clair onto smooth white cardstock and quickly emboss it with clear embossing powder.  Sprinkle it with another layer of embossing powder while it's still warm and heat it again.  Let it cool - then cut it with the flowers from the Forget Me Not Blooms die.  Cut two of the smallest flower.  It's a versatile 2-piece set.

Create other bright, glossy diecuts using the vibrant VersaFine Clair pigment inks and clear embossing powder.  The Clairs dry quickly - have your embossing powder and heat tool ready.

Here's a tip...if the embossed flowers look a little scruffy after they've been diecut it's easy to refresh the embossing so they'll look like glossy enamel flowers again.  Just attach Magic tape behind the flowers' offcut  (negative) section, press the flowers lightly into their spaces and reheat them for a few seconds.  The tape holds them in place temporarily and keeps your fingers safe. Remove the flowers while tape is still a bit warm...and they'll be a bright glossy red again!

Punch ¼" circles of black cardstock and attach them behind the bottom and right-side flowers.  Attach the diecuts to a top-folded A-2 Kraft card.

Attach Scor-Tape behind silver mirror cardstock and cut two of the Little Dragonflies.

The Memory Box and Poppystamps Collections include many dies that are perfect for cards with a simple, understated Japanese theme.  Bamboo, dragonflies, circles, frames, squares, koi, peonies, mums, branches and leaves are just a few of the designs we've used in our popular Asian classes at Impress.

The Butterfly Spectacle joins a group of favorite dies on today's card - like butterflies prepping for a summer reunion.  I love how Memory Box dies can be mixed and mingled into endless combinations.  Hi there, Jean Okimoto here with another quick card for you.

MemoryBoxButterflySpectacle-MemoryBoxButterflyEnsemble-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxButterflies-MemoryBoxButterflyCards-ButterflyCards-DiecutButterflyCards-JeanOkimoto

Cut natural cardstock with the 4-¼" x 5-½" Wrapped Stitch Rectangles die.  Cut it with Butterfly Spectacle.  Cut the Bouquet handmade paper - from Birch Press Design - with three butterflies from the Butterfly Ensemble set.  It's such a pretty print, with so many options!

Cut the the matching antennae/center sections - from the Morning Garden Butterflies set - from gold glitter paper.  I've used just a tiny portion of the large (21-½" x 30" sheet!) gold glitter paper from Impress.  It supplies many, many of these delicate little pieces...and a lot more!

Attach the diecuts to an A-2 card of natural cardstock.

Stamp the greeting - from the Open Studio Garden Sketches Clear Stamp Set - on a scrap of natural cardstock with VersaFine Clair Charming Pink.  Quickly emboss it with detail clear powder.  Attach it with foam dots.

Add pale turquoise gem stickers.

Experiment with the dies in your Memory Box collection.  You'll be amazed at how many different ways you can use them - as intended - or in creative, outside-the-box ways that Dave probably didn't expect.  That's what we'll be doing in our BEYOND THE BOX Memory Box class at Impress on May 28th.  Join us if you're in the Seattle area and have the day off for Memorial Day, or if you're visiting that weekend.

Thanks for visiting...have a great weekend and I'll see you again next week!

Big Butterfly Wing and Rectangle Basics by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxBigButterflyWing-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxButterfly-ButterflyCard-DiecutButterflyCards-BirchPressDesignPaper-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The multi-tasking Big Butterfly Wing makes it unbelievably easy to create a quick card!  Here it is, on my May Challenge inspiration card, framing a beautiful print available from Birch Press Design.  Hi everyone, Jean Okimoto here with a super-simple design for you.

MemoryBoxBigButterflyWing-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-BirchPressDesign-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxButterfly-ButterflyCards-DiecutButterflyCards

Cut bright white cardstock with the  3-¾" x 5" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut it with the Big Butterfly Wing.  Save the detailed butterfly diecut for another project.  We're recycling and using the "offcut" here.  That's what I call it  - I think "negative" sounds so gloomy, especially for such a pretty butterfly.

Find the perfect bright and flowery section of the screenprinted paper.  Cut it with the 3-½" x 4-¾" Rectangle Basics die.  Using the slightly smaller die eliminates measuring, guessing and wasting that beautiful paper!

Cut the center/antennae section from gold glitter paper.  I love the new 21-1/2"x 30" gold glitter paper from Impress!  It's easy to diecut - with very little "flaking" and works perfectly with both detailed and solid dies.

Attach the diecuts to an A-2 card of bright white cardstock.  Add turquoise gem stickers - or clear gem stickers colored with a marker.

MemoryBoxBigButterflyWing-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-BirchPressDesign-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxButterflies-ButterflyCarads-DiecutButterflyCards

Have a stash of pretty artpapers?  The Big Butterfly Wing will help you use them!  Make a set of cards for special teachers or carpool moms - or for someone who's always scrambling to find a card at the last minute.

Thanks for visiting...have a great, sunny day!

Feathered Friends and Swooping Branches and Leaves by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxSwoopingBranchesAndLeavesDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxSpringLilacsClearStamps-JeanOkimoto-MemoryBoxDiecutCards-MemoryBoxBirds-ImagineCrafts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts-ShizenDesign-BirchPressDesign

A felt owl from the Feathered Friends Deep Edge Dies delivers a bright  greeting here today.  Coordinate them with the perfect printed and embossed papers from Birch Press for more texture and zingy color.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a birthday design for spring and summer celebrations.

MemoryBoxFeatheredFriendsDeepEdgeDies-MemoryBoxSwoopingBranchesAndLeaves-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringLilacs-JeanOkimoto-VersaFineClair-MemoryBoxDiecutCards-DiecutFeltCards-DiecutFeltBirds

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet to fuchsia felt and diecut the Feathered Friends owl.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from soaking through.  Cut the face from natural cardstock.

Cut the eyes and beak - from orange cardstock.  Color the eye circles with a black marker.

Cut the branch - from the Swooping Branches and Leaves Deep Edge dies set - from  recycled cardboard.

The gold embossed paper and bright leafprint are from Birch Press Design.  They quickly add bright splashes of color and earthy texture to the design.  Cut them with the 2" x 3-¼" and 1-¾" x 3" dies from the Rectangle Basics set.  Cut the wing from the embossed paper too.

Stamp the greeting from the Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set on an A-6 (4-½" x 6-¼") card of natural cardstock with Charming Pink VersaFine Clair.  Quickly emboss it with detail clear powder.

Assemble the card.  Add dark pink gem stickers.  I love how the leaves match the shape of the owl and wing...little things like that make me so happy!

The Deep Edge Dies are timesavers for quilting and fabric arts because they cut thru multiple layers of fabric and are specially made to easily release the diecut pieces.  Of course you can use them for cardstock - and handmade artpapers that can sometimes be challenging to cut.

May Challenge Inspiration – the Plush Elegant Butterfly by Jean Okimoto

The Plush Elegant Butterfly combines a little May Challenge inspiration - and a lot of copper thread - here today.  Hi there, Jean Okimoto here with a detailed design that's a bit more involved than my usual "quick and easy" ideas.    Hope you like it!

MemoryBoxPlushElegantButterfly-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxFollowYourBliss-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-JeanOkimoto-VersaFineClair-WatercoloredButterflies-WatercoloredCards-ButterflyDiecutCards

Spritz watercolor paper and paint it in pale, watery layers of pink, orange, yellow and teal Kaleidacolor dye ink refills.  They're vibrant, concentrated inks that can be used as liquid watercolors.  Dry the inks.

Attach adhesive label paper or a sticker sheet behind the pink portion and diecut it with the Plush Elegant Butterfly.  Diecut the center portion too.

Punch a 2 or 3mm hole in the center of the butterfly.  Securely tape one end of a  strand of metallic copper thread behind the butterfly.  Sew long stitches - beginning at the center hole - through and around the left half of the butterfly.  Repeat on the right half.  Tape the thread ends to the backside of the butterfly.

Diecut another butterfly from white cardstock and attach it behind the stitched butterfly to add dimension (and cover the backside of the stitches!).

Stitch the butterfly center with the copper thread.

Diecut the big antennae - from the Morning Garden Butterflies set- from rose gold mirror cardstock.  Attach it between the butterfly and the center portion.

Cut another section of the watercolored paper with the 2" x 3-¼" Wrapped Stitch Rectangle die.

Stamp "follow your bliss"   on a 5-½" square white card with Verdant VersaFine Clair.  Quickly emboss it with detail clear powder.

Attach two strips of tape from the Sugar Tape set, available at Birch Press Design.

Attach the diecuts to the card - use foam dots to elevate the wings.  Add pale pink gem stickers.

A quick switch of greetings could make this a Mother's Day, birthday or graduation card too. MemoryBoxPlushElegantButterfly-MemoryBoxWrappedStitchRectangles-MemoryBoxFollowYourBliss-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-JeanOkimoto-BirchPressDesign-VersaFineClair-Kaleidacolor-ImagineCrafts-MemoryBoxButterflies-WatercoloredButterflyCards-DiecutButterflyCards

Thanks for stopping by...hope you'll try this technique.  It takes a few minutes - but the  detailed, sparkly results are worth the effort...promise.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the ASIA NOW class at Impress on Saturday!

P1040384

The Glorious Floral Stem sets the scene for an afternoon of spring gardening with the Vintage Watering Can and Stitched Boots.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a garden greeting today.

Cut watercolor paper with the  3" x 4-¼" Rectangle Basics die.  Paint in shades of green, yellow and orange from the Melon Melody Kaleidacolor inkpad.  Spritz it with water, dry it for a few minutes, then heat-set with an embossing tool.

Stamp the flowers from the Garden Sketches Clear Stamps Set on watercolor ink with Nocturne VersaFine Clair.  Quickly emboss it with detail clear powder.  Place the die from the matching Garden Sketches Die Set over the image and sponge it with Cheerful VersaFine Clair.  Diecut it, and two more.

Cut Glorious Floral Stem from green cardstock, remove the flowers.

Cut Vintage Watering Can from copper metallic cardstock.

Attach glossy laminate over Key Lime Dots cardstock to create a shiny surface for the rainboots.  Diecut it with Stitched Rainboots.

Stamp the greeting from the Garden Sketches set with Nocturne and emboss it.  Cut it with the matching die.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded A-2 card of green textured cardstock.

Add yellow-green gem stickers.
