Awesome Faux-Flamingos from Elegant Shorebirds
by Jean Okimoto

Transform Elegant Shorebirds into glittery faux-flamingos on a quick summer card for a great grad or someone on your awesome list.  These beautiful multi-taskers are great cranes for an Asian card too!

Hi, Jean Okimoto here, still playing with my Distress Oxides.  I have 10 of them - but these four colors create the perfect combination for our Spring and May Releases.  They are Broken China, Cracked Pistachio, Fossilized Amber and Worn Lipstick.  I used a scrap of watercolor paper to blot some of the darker areas on a larger piece of spritzed,  smushed inks and ended up with this dreamy background.

  MemoryBoxElegantShorebirds-MemoryBoxPastureGrass-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringLilacsClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-RangerDistressOxides-ImagineCraftsVersaFine-WatercoloredBackgrounds-WatercoloredCards-GlitteredDiecuts

Cut the watercolored paper with the 2-1/2" x 3-3/4" Rectangle Basics die.  Stamp the greeting - from the Open Studio Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set - with Imagine Crafts Deep Lagoon VersaFine.

Cut Pasture Grass from green cardstock and trim the edges a bit.  Cut a 1/2" base using the curved die included in the Pasture Grass set.  The curved border works alone too.  It's great for rolling hills, shorelines, curving country roads and snowdrifts - or when you just want a simple, wonky curved edge.

Cut the birds from pink glittered cardstock.

Attach the diecuts to a top-folded 5-1/2" square white card - use a foam dot for the wings of the left bird.   Add pink and green gem stickers.  Yes - five gem stickers in two colors - she's living on the edge here!

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the SUMMER BLISS class at Impress on June 17th.  We're using our dies to make a medallion, a folded butterfly...and more faux-flamingos.  My Distress Oxides are packed and ready for class too!

Thanks for stopping by...

Bicycle, Mini Butterflies and Rectangle Basics
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxBrandNewBicycle-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxMiniButterflies-MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringLilacsClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-RangerDistressOxides-WatercoloredCard-WatercoloredBackgrounds-BicycleCards-ButterflyCards

Something old, something new...the classic favorite Brand New Bicycle, Mini Butterflies, Rectangle Basics and Distress Oxides meet up on a quick card tonight.  The greeting - from the new Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set - makes it perfect for a special grad!

Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with another simple diecut design on a background of spritzed, smushed Distress Oxides. The bicycle was one of my very first Memory Box dies.  I love how it still complements new designs and greetings and is always ready for another summer card.  What's your favorite Memory Box die?

Press Fossilized Amber, Worn Lipstick, Broken China and Cracked Pistachio inks onto separate areas of an acrylic block that's larger  than 2-3/4" x 4".  Spritz it lightly with water.  Press watercolor paper onto the diluted inks.  Drag and lift the paper off the block.  Let the inks airdry for a few minutes, the heat-set it.

Cut it with the 2-3/4" x 4" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut blue cardstock with the 3" x 4-1/4" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut Brand New Bicycle from dark gray metallic cardstock.  Cut Mini Butterflies from white glittered cardstock.

MemoryBoxMiniButterflies-MemoryBoxBrandNewBicycle-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringLilacsClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-RangerDistressOxides-WatercoloredBackgrounds-WatercoloredCards-BicycleCards-ButterflyCards

Score, cut and fold a 5-1/2" square card of watercolor paper - keep the smoother side of the paper on the outside of the card.  Stamp the greeting with Worn Lipstick and heat-set it.

Assemble the card.  Attach blue gem stickers.

by Jean Okimoto

Let's celebrate summer with a  Dragonfly Stems Left Corner on a color-washed center from the Pinpoint Circle Frame.    Hello, Jean Okimoto here, with a splashy-bright background for the delicate golden dragonflies.  They'd be beautiful anywhere - but I think these four Distress Oxide inks created the perfect summer backdrop for them.  Hope you agree!

  MemoryBoxPinpointCircleFrame-MemoryBoxDragonflyStemsLeftCorner-MemoryBoxModernBorderTrim-JeanOkimoto-DistressOxides-WatercoloredCards-DragonflyCards-WatercoloredDragonflyCards-Delicata-DiecutCards=DragonflyDiecuts

Press Broken China, Cracked Pistachio, Fossilized Amber and Worn Lipstick onto separate areas of a large acrylic block.  Spritz the block with water and allow the colors to start blending for a few seconds.  Press watercolor paper onto the diluted inks.  Drag and lift the paper off the block and set it aside to airdry for a few minutes.  Dry it completely with a heat-tool.

Cut it with Pinpoint Circle Frame.

Cut Dragonfly Stems Left Corner from gold mirror cardstock.

Cut a stencil from The Crafter's Workshop stencil plastic using the dot die from the Modern Border Trim set.  Score, cut and fold an A-6 (4-5/8" x 6-1/4")  card of smooth white cardstock. Mask a few rows at the bottom of the stencil.  Sponge Imagine Crafts Delicata Gold Shimmer through the stencil.  Dry the ink.

Assemble the card and add light green gem stickers.

June Challenge Inspiration…Pinpoint Single Frame + Wishes from the Fishes
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxNeighborlyNarwhal-MemoryBoxFamiltyOfFish-MemoryBoxPinpointSingleFrame-MemoryBoxOpenStudioFishTalesClearStampSet-MemoryBoxOpenRectangleBasics-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredCard-FishCard-WatercoloredBackgrounds-VersaFine-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

Neighborly Narwhal (minus his tusk) becomes a birthday whale with Rectangle Basics, Pinpoint Single Frame and Family of Fish.   Everyone's joining in on a summer celebration.   Hello - Jean Okimoto here - loving how the Family of Fish is reversible and can swim in both directions!

MemoryBoxFamilyOfFish-MemoryBoxNeighborlyNarwhal-MemoryBoxOpenStudioFishTalesClearStampSet-MemoryBoxRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxSinglePinpointFrame-JeanOkimoto-PeerlessWatercolors-VersaFine-WatercoloredBackgrounds-WatercoloredBirthdayCards-FishCards

Paint watercolor paper with a light wash of green and turquoise Peerless Watercolors.  Dry it, then cut it with the 2-1/4" x 3-1/2" Rectangle Basics Die.  Cut it with the Pinpoint Single Frame.  Rotate the inner rectangle for increased color contrast.

The Rectangle Basics set eliminates the guesswork (and wonky paper trimmer edges) and makes it so easy to layer everything!  The Basic Sets - Rectangle, Square and Circle - save time and eliminate wasted cardstock (from miss-cuts).  Each set includes 16 dies.  If you're not sure which size to use, cut it with a larger die - you can always trim it with a smaller size if necessary.

Stamp the greeting - from the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set - with VersaFine Onyx Black.

Cut orange cardstock with the 3-1/4" x 4" Rectangle Basics die.  Cut turquoise cardstock with the 2-3/4" x 4-1/2" Rectangle Basics die.

Cut Neighborly Narwhal from gray and white cardstock.  Attach a scrap of black cardstock behind his eye.  Cut Family of Fish from dark orange cardstock.

Cut a strip of black glittered cardstock.  Can't find any?  Attach double-stick tape to black cardstock and brush ultra-fine black glitter on it.

Score, cut and fold a 5-1/2" square card of textured natural cardstock.  Assemble the card and add gold gem stickers.

Big thanks to everyone from last weekend's SURF AND TURF class at Impress.  It was surely the "laughing-est" class ever - but we somehow folded an origami fish, made 6 cards and ended 30 minutes early.  Thanks too - Ann, Shari and Erin - for helping us fill those shopping baskets with everything on our wishlists...and more!  See you next time at SUMMER BLISS on June 17th - 6 colorful summer cards and more beautiful Memory Box diecuts of artpapers from Shizen Design.

Thanks for stopping by...see you again this weekend!

Bubble Burst and Butterflies
by Jean Okimoto

P1370443

Bubble Burst has arrived - with perfect timing for graduation, thank you and teacher cards.  I love how versatile it is for any celebration,  with hearts, stars, birds or the friendly fish from the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set.  Champagne glasses would look great with it too!

Hello, Jean Okimoto here - can you believe May is already over and it's time to switch over to summer cards?

P1370447

Paint watercolor paper with Peerless Watercolors and let it air-dry it for a few minutes.  Add a sheer layer of diluted Peerless Transparent Gold.  Diecut the three smallest butterflies from the Butterfly Ensemble background set.

Diecut the matching detailed butterflies from the intricate Morning Garden Butterflies set from gold mirror cardstock.  Diecut the three smallest butterfly centers.  Trim a bit off the bottom of the smallest center.

Diecut white cardstock using 4" x 5-1/4" Rectangle Basics die.  Diecut it at an angle with Bubble Burst.

Stamp the greeting - from the Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set - with Rosebud Memento Luxe.  Heat-set the ink.

Attach the diecuts to a Cherry Blossom Notecard - use foam dots on the left side of the center butterfly and the right side of the top and bottom butterflies.

P1370446

Big thanks to everyone from Monday's SUMMER HEARTS class at Impress!  Hope you discovered a few unique ways to use the beautiful heart dies, stamps and papers in your stash.  I love finding different ways to use products from previous collections - and upcycling them in new and unique ways!  Thank you too - Ann and Cindi - for finding everything we needed for our summer cards.  Becca - we know you were hard at work filling Impress' online orders with products from Memory Box and Poppystamps...thanks!

See you all again on June 3rd for the SURF + TURF class.  Cards for Dads, grads and the special men in our life - it's like a summer bliss class for guy-cards.

Thanks for stopping by - see you again next week!

Cubic Border, Goldfish Collage and Seaweed Stalks
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxGoldfishCollage-MemoryBoxSeaweedStalks-MemoryBoxCubicBorder-MemoryBoxOpenStudioFishTalesClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-PeerlessWatercolors-WatercoloredDiecuts-FishDiecuts-FeltDiecuts-ImpressCardsAndCrafts

The new Cubic Border, Seaweed Stalks and diecuts from the Goldfish Collage team up on a birthday card today.  Hello, Jean Okimoto here with a simple  design for a color-infused birthday celebration.

MemoryBoxSeaweedStalks-MemoryBoxCubicBorder-MemoryBoxGoldfishCollage-MemoryBoxOpenStudioFishTalesClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-PeerlessWatercolors-WatercoloredCards-WatercoloredDiecuts-FeltDiecuts

Paint a strip of watercolor paper in loose, overlapping shades of teal and turquoise Peerless Watercolors.  Sprinkle it with a few drops of water, then heat-set it.  Cut it with the new Cubic Border.  Trim it to about 5-1/4" x 1-1/4".

Cubic Border is great for cutting little windows on card fronts too.  Imagine how cute it would be with little ghosts peeking thru on a Halloween card!  There's Christmas-in-July - why not Halloween-in-May?

Paint another piece of watercolor paper in watery shades of green.  Dry it, then cut several sets of Seaweed Stalks to trim and layer at the base of the Cubic Border.

Felt golfish diecuts - in shades of peach, dark-orange and pumpkin-orange - create a ombre set of fish to add texture to the design.  Just attach adhesive label paper or sticker paper to wool-blend felt and diecut the 3 colors.  The paper backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from soaking through.

Stamp the greeting  - from the new Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set - with Imagine Crafts Espresso Truffle Memento Luxe on a lightly-textured top-folded white A-2 card.  Heat-set it.

Attach the diecuts.  Add silvery gem stickers.  Send it to the birthday child - or fish-loving guy - for a very special celebration.

If you're in the Seattle area, join us for another SUMMER HEARTS class at Impress today.  It's from 11:00 to 1:00 - giving you plenty of time to shop and enjoy the long weekend!

Thanks for stopping by - have a great day!

Sheer Circle Wreath, Little Dragonflies and Dazzling Dragonfly
by Jean Okimoto

Wondering how to use the new Sheer Circle Wreath in May?  Don't wait till the holidays - it's a great backdrop for the Dazzling Dragonfly on a summer card.  Diecut circles and rings create an artsy background or accent for any occasion.  Try it with butterflies, birds or your favorite design from Fish Tales.  And with snowflakes in December!

Hello, Jean Okimoto here - with congrats to all of the May Blog Blitz winners - enjoy your prize!

P1370395

Sheer Circle Wreath is great for diecutting soft,  textured papers - like marbled paper from Shizen Design.  The swirly waves of metallic inks form little coves and corners for the wreath.  Cut the wreath first, then trim the paper with the Rectangle Basics die.

Cut Dazzling Dragonfly from Rose Gold mirror cardstock.  Assemble it - with the wings beneath the body instead of above it,  for a different look.  Cut Little Dragonflies from Rose Gold mirror cardstock too.

Score, cut and fold a 5-1/2" square cream card.  Stamp the greeting - from the new Open Studio Thank You Sentiments Clear Stamp Set - with Distress Oxide Broken China.  Love how the versatile stamp set lets you create the perfect "corner" to complement the rectangle.  Dry the ink, then assemble your quick card.

P1370352

Join us for another SUMMER HEARTS class at Impress on Memorial Day - Monday, May 29th.  We have so many great heart designs in our stash...let's use them throughout the year, not just in February.

Thanks for visiting - hope you liked this simple design.  Diecutting Shizen Design's special artpapers with Memory Box, Open Studio and Poppystamps dies produces great results - they cut right through the fibers, metallic inks and textures of handmade papers.  Pull those treasured papers from your stash and give it a try!

Inlay a Felt Plush Elegant Butterfly
by Jean Okimoto

MemoryBoxPlushElegantButterfly-MemoryBoxMorningGardenButterflies-MemoryBoxStraightStitches-MemoryBoxOpenStudioSpringLilacsClearStampSet-JeanOkimoto-FeltDiecuts-FeltDiecutsCards-ButterflyCards-DiecutButterflies-ImagineCraftsBrilliance

The new Plush Elegant Butterfly - designed to be lovingly layered and stitched - is also perfect for quick inlaid felt designs.  Hi, Jean Okimoto here, hoping you're having a great weekend!

Gather some scraps of summer-colored wool-blend felt and back them with adhesive label or sticker paper.  The backing stabilizes the felt and keeps adhesives from soaking through.

P1370326

Diecut the felt pieces.  Here's an easy way to remove the little stitch dots - place the diecut on a scrap of felt in a weird color that you won't be using - then use a toothpick or BBQ skewer to push the little dots out and onto the felt scrap under it.  The little dots will stick to the felt scrap and can easily be disposed of.  Skip this step if you're actually stitching the butterfly - the needle and floss will do it for you!

The light peach-colored piece in the center is layered - the other felt diecuts are inlaid.

Attach gold glittered washi tape to a scrap of paper and diecut the largest butterfly center section from the Morning Garden Butterflies set.

Score, cut and fold a 5-1/2" square white card.  Diecut the folded card with the Straight Stitches die to add some texture to the front - and inside - of the card.

Stamp the greeting - from the new Spring Lilacs Clear Stamp Set - with Brilliance Pearlescent Jade and dry the ink.

Attach the butterfly.  Add green gem stickers.

P1370312

Square cards require extra postage - but I think this happy card deserves special handling.  Hope you agree!

The Memory Box Plush Collection creates great felt keepsakes and hand-stitched gifts.  They're also great for cards, layouts and mixed media.  Get the most from your dies by using them in different ways- you'll love their versatility.

Thanks very much for stopping by - have a great weekend!

Spring Lilacs and Birthday Sentiments
by Jean Okimoto

Celebrate a birthday with the new Spring Lilacs Clear Stamps Set and Spring Lilacs Die Set - it's sure to be a special day!  Add a trellis-y  background with a die from the Distressed Baptisia Collage Set and a classic greeting from the new Birthday Sentiments Clear Stamp Set.

Hi, Jean Okimoto here, with an easy way to eliminate some of the stress of watercoloring.  It's a challenge to stay inside the lines - literally and figuratively - when I'm coloring.  The watercolors just have a way of escaping out onto the background, especially a white background.  Eliminate that issue by tinting the background with a light wash of your dominant color and air-dry it.  I've used a tiny, very diluted amount of the Pansy Dye Ink Refill for Kaleidacolors.  Iron it with a dry iron on the cotton setting to smooth the paper out again.  Stamp the lilacs with Imagine Crafts Espresso Truffle Memento Luxe and emboss it with detail clear powder.   MemoryBoxSpringLilacsClearStampSet-MemoryBoxSpringLilacsDieSet-MemoryBoxOpenStudioRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxOpenStudioDistressedBaptisiaCollageSet-MemoryBoxOpenStudioBirthdaySentimentsClearStampSet-JeanOkimotoWatercoloredCards-ImagineCrafts-WatercoloredFlowerCards

Watercolor the image with diluted Pansy, Spring Green and Spruce refill inks.  Let it dry.  Cut it with the coordinating Spring Lilacs die.  Diecutting the lilacs is quick and easy if you align the die with the stem and lower edges of the leaves first - then with the blossom at the top.  A bit of painter's tape at those 4 spots will secure the die and produce great results!

Stamp and emboss the greeting from the new Open Studio Birthday Sentiments Clear Stamp Set on white cardstock.  Cut it with the 3-1/4" x 4-1/2" Rectangle Basics Die.

Cut white cardstock with the grid pattern from the Distressed Baptisia Collage set.  Trim it with the 2" x 3-1/4" Rectangle Basics Die.  It's a must-have set of 16 dies perfectly proportioned cutting layers for A-2 cards - and it's great for A-6 and A-7 cards too.  I can't design a rectangle card without it!

Attach everything to a top-folded A-2 card of textured white cardstock - use foam dots behind the lilacs at the top.   Add pale violet gem stickers.

Big thanks to everyone from last weekend's SUMMER HEARTS class at Impress!  We discovered a few new ways to use our favorite  heart dies, stamps and papers.  They're classic, versatile and perfect for summer celebrations and events - or just to say "I'm thinking of you."  Thanks too - Becca and Erin - for helping us find everything we needed for our summer cards!

There's a second SUMMER HEARTS class on May 29th.  It's Memorial Day, and classes on a holiday seem to be more relaxing - and it's always a great time to meet new friends and catch up with those you haven't seen in a while.

MemoryBoxFishTales-MemoryBoxOpenStudioRectangleBasics-MemoryBoxSeaweedStalks-JeanOkimoto-PeerlessWatercolors-WatercoloredBackgrounds-FishCards-DiecutFishCards-ImpressCardaAndCrafts-ImagineCrafts-ShizenDesign

Bright tropical colors and the new Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set send birthday wishes today.  Hello, welcome back to our May Release Blog Blitz! Jean Okimoto here with another design featuring this great new clear stamp set and the matching set of dies.

MemoryBoxFishTales-MemoryBoxMayRelease-MemoryBoxOpenStudioRectangleBasics-MemroyBoxSeaweedStalks-JeanOkimoto-WatercoloredBackgrounds-PeerlessWatercolors-ShizenDesignWatercolorPaper

It's easy to organize (and find!) your favorite "open" die sets if they're attached to curtain rings from a fabric or home store.  I attach the rings to a magnetic bar that's attached to a shelf in my work area.  That's a lot of attachment - but it works for me!

Paint deckle-edged rough watercolor paper from Shizen Design with Peerless Watercolors and air-dry it.  Add a pearly wash of diluted Peerless Transparent Silver and heat-set it.  The deckled edges and texture enhance the shimmery layer and contrast nicely against the matte diecuts.   Trim the right and bottom edges with a Rectangle Basics die.

Gather an assortment of yellow, orange, flamingo, turquoise and green cardstock.  Stamp the happy little fish and wavy seaweed  from the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set with VersaFine Onyx Black.   Heat-set the ink, then diecut the designs  with the matching Fish Tales Die Set.

Diecut Seaweed Stalks from light green cardstock.

Stamp the greeting - from the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set - on lime green cardstock.  Cut it with a Rectangle Basics die.

Score, cut and fold a 5-1/2" square white card.  Attach the diecuts and greeting - use foam dots for the bright yellow, orange and turquoise fishes.  Add blue gem stickers.

Want a chance to win the Fish Tales Clear Stamp Set?  Just add your comment to today's post - and it may soon join your Memory Box and Open Studio Collection.  Add your comment to Jenny's Fish Tales blog blitz post too - and all of the other Design Team posts during this week's blog blitz.  The entry deadline is 11:59 PM EST on Sunday, May 14th.  Good Luck to you!

We'll be using a few of the newest dies and stamps at the May 13th SUMMER HEARTS class at Impress.  We have so many great heart- and love-themed dies, stamps and papers - let's put them to work on summery cards for weddings, thank-yous and cards to say "I'm thinking of you."  See you on Saturday!
